The Wrong Cowboy by Sasha Summers 2nd book in The Cowboys of Garrison, Texas series. Mabel Briscoe and Jensen Crawley are on opposite sides of a multigenerational feud. That doesn’t matter to 6 year old Samantha Crawley. She decides Mabel is a real life princess and will cross any divide to be with Mabel.
Adorable and so sweet. Both the child and the romance in this story. Both Mabel and Jensen are drawn to each other but are well aware of gossiping neighbors and angry family members. A Romeo and Juliet setup with a happy ever after ending. Mabel is compassionate with animals and children. Jensen will do whatever he must to keep his child happy. “Little miss” Samantha is too cute for words. Emotional tears at the end. I didn’t expect that from the old man!
Excerpt: “Well, daddy is handsome, I think. Don’t you, miss Mabel?” Samantha turned her wide eyes on the even-redder Mabel. “I do”, Mabel said, not bothering to look at him. He wasn’t sure how to feel about that. Was she just agreeing to make Samantha happy or did she find him attractive? The real question was, shouldn’t he be concerned that her answer mattered to him? The answer to that was yes. A big, fat yes.”
This is a Clean Cowboy Romance, and this is the second book in the Cowboys of Garrison, Texas series. I was so done with the family rival thing that was going on in this book. My favorite character in this book was Samantha, and that little girl was the one thing I really loved about this book. I just want to yell at the two main characters and say stand up to your family. There was so many cute and fun parts to this book, but there was just the same thing coming up through out this book which I hated. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Heartwarming) or author (Sasha Summers) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Another in the Cowboys of Garrison, Texas series, in which Mabel Briscoe is able to talk to animals--or at least get through to them--and is enchanted by a five year old girl, the daughter of widower Jensen Crawley, but she doesn't seem to have the courage to admit her feelings for him. After all, her crush is years' long, since high school.
As for Jensen, he's very aware--maybe even more than Mabel--of the multi-generational enmity between the Briscoes and the Crawleys. And that's what keeps him at arms' length from Mabel, although Jensen would love to break through and stand up to his father and her brothers and uncle.
But can they do it? Only the dogs and horses in Mabel's life and Jensen's darling daughter seem capable of bringing them together, but will they? And how will Mabel and Jensen react when confronted by what they've been trying to ignore for years?
The Briscoe-Crawley feud goes back several generations, initially caused by a fight over a woman and passed along to each subsequent generation with increasing intensity. Now Mabel Briscoe is back in her hometown for a few weeks visit, determined to avoid the object of her unrequited crush, Jensen Crawley. A chance meeting leads the widower's charming young daughter to immediately befriend Mabel, and she innocently leads the way toward resolving the animosity between the two families.
Mabel and Jensen have so much simmering tension and chemistry to spare, and they each know there's no earthly reason to perpetuate the feud, yet they both face nearly unbearable pressure from their respective families to continue the blame and mistrust that has divided them for so long. It was exquisite torture to watch these two struggle with their growing feelings while still trying to respect the family traditions.
The HEA was sweet and triumphant, and was so much more than just the magic of a child bringing them together. This author really knows how to bring all the heartfelt emotions into play, letting the romance truly drive the story forward and leaving this reader with a sigh-filled book hangover.
If you're looking for a "kisses only" swoon-worthy romance, this was written for you. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Mable and Jensen's families are sworn enemies but that means nothing to Jensen's young daughter Samantha. Not old enough to know anything about the family feud Samantha is convinced that Mabel is a princess that can talk to animals and nothing could change her mind. It seems Samantha's kindness just might bring Mabel and Jensen closer then ever but could the family feud ruin things between the two?
This was a pretty heartwarming book. I just finished reading another family feud book before this and I was a bit worried that might it might ruin my enjoyment of this book thinking that they'll be the same ol thing. But they were completely different and I really loved how this book turned out. I loved how innocent and sweet Samantha was, she was too young to be hampered by the whole feud between families and wore her heart on her sleeve. I loved how kind Mabel was too, she wasn't the type to push anyone away, she wasn't going to ruin Samantha's view on her or treat Jensen and Samantha with anything but respect. I kept getting peeved by the families on the side reminding the two about the feud and it was clear they weren't the kind to change even if this issue was and old one. It was just a nice read, with sweet moments and I really enjoyed this book.
Sweet cowboy romances are always fun. This one had an adorable child bringing her dad together with a woman from his family's long-time rivals. I love a good enemies-to-lovers story (clean, in this case), but there were times when I wanted to yell at them to just stand up to their families already!
Very enjoyable read though and I'll be looking for the others in the series.
