Safe harbor and new beginnings await on the Chesapeake Bay…

Pleasant Shores cop Evan Stone has worked hard to become a man of his word, overcoming the alcoholism that sent him down the wrong path in his youth. He promised he’d watch out for Cassie, and the cottage next to his will be a perfect short-term refuge for her and her dog. The other half of that promise—to stay away from Cassie romantically—is harder to keep.

Sheltered for years because of a childhood illness, Cassie is ready to reach for what she wants. And despite her family’s warnings and her own fears, Cassie’s heart wants Evan. As the return of his estranged son puts his sobriety to the test, Cassie and Evan are drawn together, finding strength through what they’ve each weathered. She knows Evan would risk anything to protect her, but are they willing to risk the price of loving, now and forever?

Forever on the Bay was a great story that really pulled at my emotions. It is the sixth book in The Off Season series and I had no problem jumping right into it. I have only read one other book in this series, but it is clear that the author has done a good job of making these novels work well as stand alone titles, while also creating a community of characters that are active in all of the books.

Evan and Cassie, as well as Avery and Oliver who are secondary characters in this book, had some difficult issues to deal with. The right path was not always obvious, people sometimes made bad decisions, and there were consequences that followed them around.

Evan and Cassie were really great together and it was clear that there was a growing attraction between the two. Yet, there were reasons that kept things from flowing smoothly for them, including the fact that Evan was a recovering alcoholic and a promise he made to Cassie’s late brother.

There was a current of mystery flowing through the book as Evan and Cassie worked to solve the murder of Cassie’s brother that was woven into the storyline nicely. This clean fiction title dove into some really hard topics including anxiety, alcoholism, unexpected pregnancy, cancer, and other things as well.

Lee Tobin McClain knows how how to emotionally bludgeon a reader before soothing her with hope and happily-ever-afters. :-)

I'd categorize this as a clean, Women's Fiction / Contemporary Romance hybrid. That's because there's a whole lot more going on besides Evan and Cassie's romance. Like a secondary love story along with multiple character POVs and a whole lot of issue reckoning before said happily-ever-after.

I love the depth this author brings to her stories. She isn't afraid to tackle tough topics with grace and compassion, shining light into the dark recesses of life's grittier problems. There's even a bit of suspense and lurking danger! And a whole lot of character growing besides. All spun together with McClain's storytelling wizardry which always leaves me blissfully happy and wanting more.

Forever on the Bay is the sixth book in The Off Season series but it can be read as a standalone. I've only read a few of the other books (and you can bet I'll be playing catch up soon!) though fans of the series will be thrilled to catch up with former hero and heroines and this quaint seaside town.

Well .. i didn’t like this. The characters did not capture my attention or the plot. I “skip read” it.
I so liked a previous book by this author .. so needless to say I was disappointed.
Just saw that i already read book 3 for 2 star rating so this was NOT my series for sure.

Lee Tobin McClain invites readers back to the Chesapeake Bay and the quaint town of Pleasant Shores in Forever on the Bay. This sweet romance contains plenty of likable characters, family drama, and a mystery as Evan and Cassie work together.

The characters in this book are fallible, which makes them relatable. No, I may not have had the same struggles as Evan, Cassie, Oliver, or Avery, but I’ve been determined to change something about my life only to go back to the exact thing I’m trying not to do…sometimes it takes multiple failures before climbing that hurdle. And that’s exactly what happens with in this book. And yes, I’ve made mistakes and paid the consequences. No one is perfect, and the author shows that in her books.

Yet, despite the imperfections, hope lies behind the pain. Hope that our lives can change. That a dream that is out of reach is possible to obtain. That love can bloom in the difficult times. And forgiveness heals wounds.

There are a few fictional worlds I would love to visit, but this is one I would love to move to and be a part of, if it were real. Pleasant Shores is a place of forgiveness, healing, and second chances. A place where troubled souls find peace and misfits find a forever home.

Cassie Thomas has decided it's time to live life on her own terms. After a childhood illness and losing her older brother, she’s seen more tragedy than most young women her age. Pleasant Shores' Victory Cottage is the perfect place for Cassie to spread her wings in a safe, caring small town.

Evan Stone promised his best friend he'd always watch out for Josh's little sister, and living next door to Cassie and her dog will make it easier for Evan to keep an eye on things. Evan doesn’t have the time or inclination for a romantic relationship and focuses on his sobriety while protecting and serving the good people in his beachside town. But when a threat finds Cassie and circumstances threaten his sobriety, Evan’s peaceful, uneventful lifestyle quickly becomes a thing of the past and he and Cassie will need to work together.

This gifted wordsmith's stories remind us we can never have too much gratitude for divine guidance and the blessings in our lives. She shows us that while life’s challenges sometimes cause us to stumble, a benevolent hand awaits to pick us back up, the perfect measure of grace is always there for the taking and redemption is within reach.

I always come away from a McClain romance with a new hope in my heart, a greater appreciation for grace and mercy, and my faith in mankind bolstered. Cassie and Evan's story is one of forgiveness, healing, renewal, and personal growth. Uplifting, inspiring, and heartfelt, this wholesome romance will touch your heart, settle in your soul, and quite possibly make you see your own world with fresh eyes. A masterfully written, quaintly charming, and poignantly touching read, you'll want to begin this visit to Pleasant Shores right away.

In this story you meet a woman named Cassie whose brother gets killled by in the beginning of the book. Then you meet a guy named Evan Stone who lives in a place called Pleasant Shores. Evan is a cop there and he is a recovering alcoholic.

He made a promise to watch out for Cassie who at a young age was sheltered because of an illness she suffered. She asks Evan for help. He promised her brother that he would stay away from Cassie romantically. Evan’s son also arrives to Pleasant Shores. I didn’t like how Evan treated Cassie like a child in that she is attracted to Evan in this book but he kept telling her that it was a mistake kissing her and making a move on her. It was like……come on !!!!!! They were two consenting adults who liked each other. Cassie was a very sweet young woman who made dolls. This book could have had some spicy 🌶 scenes between Evan and Cassie which would have made the book that more fun to read.

I always enjoy a Good Christian Romance. Forever on the Bay by Lee Tobin McClain is Book 6 in The Off Season series. I have only read one of the other books in this series, although after reading this book I want to go back and read the series from beginning to end!

The story takes place in Pleasant Shores, the same town as the Book 5. The main characters in this book are Evan Stone and Cassie Thomas. Evan is a Cop in Pleasant Shores and is a former Alcoholic. He has been sober for many years due to his determination. Cassie Thomas is the sister of Evan's late best friend. He promised he would keep an eye on her, so when Cassie asks Evan for help, he immediately says YES. Cassie was sheltered for many years due to a Childhood Illness, but Cassie is now ready to branch out on her own with her Dog. Evan agrees to let them stay in the Cottage right next door to him, known as Victory Cottage. Cassie finds herself falling in love with Evan, even though her family has warned that he might not be the one for her. Evan's Collage Age son, who he hadn't seen in many, comes to visit. He sees that he might be drifting back to his Alcoholic ways with his son there. Will Evan be able to stay sober and be strong? Will Evan and Cassie find themselves in a Romantic Relationship?

WOW, what a wonderful and heartwarming Romance! The reader is drawn into the story from the very first chapter. I really like the idea behind Victory Cottage. Victory Cottage is a place where one can stay for a time to get some help and a break from the things that are troubling them. The main characters, Evan and Cassie, have known each other since Childhood. They both have some hard things happen in the past, but those hardships made them stronger people today. I really see that in this book when Evan's son comes home and Evan is on the brink of losing his soberity. Cassie and Evan end up helping each other through many avenues. The book is set in Pleasant Shores, which is a small town. I really felt the Small Town warmth and community throughout the book. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a Sweet Chrisitan Romance novel GREAT BOOK!

When I sit down to read a book I try not to bring my bias into the mix. I attempt to come into the narrative with an open mind but, try as I might, the bias always seems to seep through, and ends up affecting my feelings towards a novel. This is the case of Forever On the Bay.

There are a lot of things I loved about this story. I am a sucker for mystery, so the unsolved murder of Josh, paired with the mystery surrounding Avery’s baby it what really gripped me, and was actually my favorite part. I know that Oliver and Avery’s story was a parallel narrative, and the lesser of the two, but I preferred it over Evan and Cassie. I have a thing about older guys being with younger girls, and the whole time I’m reading about the many instances of them fighting their attraction for one another it just creeped me out, and that feeling didn’t change the entire time I read.

In saying that, I did appreciate their support for each other, and how strong they both were, especially so soon after such a tragedy. Actually, every character, at one point or another, showed their strength, which I greatly admired.

There were quite a few moments where the inner dialogue became rote and I found myself skimming to get to a more interesting place, but once the focus became more on solving the mystery I couldn’t put it down. I wish there would’ve been more of a twist, as far as the mystery is concerned, but finding out still felt satisfying, even if the perpetrator was a little more than obvious.

If the age difference wouldn’t have been a factor I know I would’ve enjoyed this read more. The overall pace is decent, the touch of mystery adds the perfect tension, and the characters are wonderfully flawed. The small town setting is picturesque and the perfect backdrop for healing.

*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.

Evan Stone had many regrets in life, but he is in a better place now. He has overcome his alcohol addiction and is a police officer in the small town of Pleasant Shores where he feels like he has found a place to belong. His best friend Josh was worried about a case he was working on, and he had Evan promise to watch over his sister, Cassie, and help if needed. He also made Evan promise to never pursue her romantically because Josh knew his past and his struggles. Months after Josh was killed Cassie called asking for help. Can he maintain his sobriety while dealing with the pressure of his son Oliver staying with him and his feelings for Cassie growing?
Cassie Thomas had survived cancer as a child, but her family still sheltered her. After witnessing her brother Josh being murdered, she returns to live with her mother. She longs to be independent and grow her business of making lookalike dolls for kids with serious illnesses and moving to Pleasant Shores was the first step for her.
This was a beautiful story of regret, grief, and starting over again. Evan regretted the years he lost being a father to Oliver, but he wants to repair their relationship and help Oliver, so he doesn’t follow the same path he did. Cassie’s past had given her the strength and courage the pursue her goals. It was amazing to see her flourish and grow in confidence. This story will touch your heart and I highly recommend reading it.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Forever on the Bay
by Lee Tobin McClain
Book 6 in the Off Season series
Rating: 3.5/5

Having never read anything from the author before, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story from Lee Tobin McClain. I have not read the previous books but that did not deter me from reading this one. It can definitely be read as a standalone.

I appreciate how the author is able to deal with real life issues regarding substance abuse and a father's struggle with his estranged son. I appreciated the two budding romances too. I really enjoyed the relationship between Evan and Cassie despite the age difference. Their chemistry was great. The story was interesting (although a little slow in the beginning) and the ending was very satisfying regarding the mystery and suspense.

Highly recommend if you enjoy clean romance with suspense and family dynamics.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Forever on the Bay by Lee Tobin McClain
Lee Tobin McClain dazzles with unforgettable characters, fabulous small-town settings and a big dose of heart." —Susan Mallery, New York Times bestselling author
Safe harbor and new beginnings await on the Chesapeake Bay…
Pleasant Shores cop Evan Stone has worked hard to become a man of his word, overcoming the alcoholism that sent him down the wrong path in his youth. So when his late best friend’s sister asks for his help, he doesn’t hesitate. He promised he’d watch out for Cassie, and the cottage next to his will be a perfect short-term refuge for her and her dog. She knows Evan would risk anything to protect her, but are they willing to risk the price of loving, now and forever?
This is Cassie Thomas and Evan Stone's story.
This is Avery and Oliver's story.
“I’m worried about Mom.”
“She’s gotten worse?” Cassie’s mother struggled with anxiety and depression, and it had gotten more acute since the death of her only son, Cassie’s brother.
Cassie sighed into the phone. “Not exactly. It’s just, since I didn’t get this artist-in-residence job I applied for, she’s cancelling her trip. Do you think you could talk to her, reassure her that I’ll be safe staying here in Minestown? She really needs to get away, and she might listen to you.”
“Are you safe there?” Cassie had lived with her brother after college, in an apartment in a half-gentrified area of the city. After he’d been killed four months ago, she’d moved back in to her mother’s home on the outskirts of town so they could help each other cope. Minestown was just two hours away from Pleasant Shores, over the border in Pennsylvania, but the depressed community was worlds away from the idyllic beach town Evan now called home.
“Yes. Yes, I think I’m safe.”
“You don’t sound sure.” Cassie was nine years younger than Evan was, but he’d grown up next door. Since Josh was his best friend, Evan had spent a lot of time at their house, and he could recognize the doubt in Cassie’s voice.
I recommend reading.

Forever on the Bay is the 6th book in The Off Season series, but can be read as a standalone. Having said that, there are characters and incidents referred to from previous books. I would suggest that to enjoy the full story unfolding in the small town of Pleasant Shores on the Chesapeake, you read them all in order. Victory Cottage is a refuge for people to recover from tragedies, normally military or service personnel (fire, police), but this story has a young woman, Cassie, who's brother was killed in their home and she is trying to find her place amid the chance that the killer is also after you. Her brother's best friend, Evan, a police officer in Pleasant Shores, suggests that she live there while she recover. Evan was a previous resident and knows of the house's and community's healing power. Evan still has struggles, he is a recovering alcoholic whose estranged son shows up to stay with him. The problem is his son has no job, no skills and is a drinker. As Cassie and Evan get to know each other in a different relationship, they realize they have feelings for each other that are not platonic.

I love visiting the community of Pleasant Shores and meeting up with the characters from previous books to see how they are doing. Cassie Thomas has had a very protected life suffering from a serious illness as a child. She jumps into life in her new home, volunteering with teenagers to make dolls for seriously ill children, as volunteer work is part of the program. She makes some friends and tries to fight the feelings she is developing for Evan. There is also a part of her that is fearful and she turns to Evan for support many times. Evan struggles with his developing feelings for Cassie, thinking he is not good enough for her, especially with his son and all the baggage he carries from his previous relationship. This is a well-written and relatable story. The characters have real problems to deal with and their relationships develop naturally. I do like that consequences from decisions and actions must be dealt with is realistic ways. This book also has a mystery to solve, the death of Cassie's brother, and it is woven well throughout the story. I enjoy these clean romances, that include serious themes of alcoholism, anxiety, childhood cancer and the overprotectiveness that results, teenage pregnancy and teen marriages and dealing with tragedy. All this is wrapped up in a story of community, friendship, new beginnings and hope. I have enjoyed listening to this series, narrated by Tanya Eby. She has put her own spin on these books and I look forward to her sharing another "Off Season" story.

Return to the Victory Cottages in Chesapeake Bay! Evan Stone is a cop living in Pleasant Shores, regularly attending AA meetings and building a good life even after his good friend, a private detective, is murdered. Cassie has known Evan since she was a child aggravating him and her late brother. I admired Cassie who had cancer as a child and now is building a business making special dolls for ill children. Evan's son who he fathered when 17 is now a college age young man and shows up on his door step. Evan's life gets complicated as he tries to build a relationship with his son and to protect Cassie who saw her brother's killer. You will enjoy this story set in a small fishing village. I received a complimentary advance copy of Forever on the Bay from the author, Lee Tobin McClain. This is my honest opinion.

Great story and characters. Cassie's brother, Josh, was shot and she wants to find the killer since the police have quit looking. Josh's best friend, Evan, is a policeman in another town and he wants to find the killer also. Cassie moves to the town where Evan lives. Josh told Evan if something happened to him he should take care of Cassie. He also told him not to become romantically involved. Great love story, wonderful community, good mystery. I loved how Evan struggled to finally be a good dad to Oliver, his son. Both have drinking problems to work through. Cassie had cancer as a child and now makes dolls to represent those struggling with health issues. There is a lot going on to make this book a great read!

I have read several books by this author and books in The Off Season series. I enjoy hearing about previous characters in these books but each one can be read as a stand alone.

This story features long time friends Evan and Cassie; along with new characters Avery and Oliver. It has some drama, clean romance and small town feel.

Addictions and alcohol are a major subjects in the story which I personally have a hard time reading about, but personal feelings aside; I still enjoyed this book and characters. Can't wait to keep reading more from this series.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

Lee Tobin McClain is truly a wonderful inspirational author. In this book you will read about life growing up sick, protective family members and a small town where everyone helps each other. Cassie and Evan grew up together were good friends. Can they have more than a friendship? You will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next in this wonderful story. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could. You will feel God working throughout this book.

What a great way to wrap up the series. Just like in the previous books, I fell in love with the characters. I liked Evan and Cassie from the first. I loved how Evan was looking after Cassie’s safety while looking for her brother’s killer. Cassie was used to being treated like an invalid all her life and wanted to be her own person, and I liked how the author was able to accomplish this. I thought this was a great book and I recommend it.

Another heartwarming small town romance by Lee Tobin McClain, mixing in some mystery and family drama. She is drawn to this long time friend but everyone warns her she shouldn't be. He is drawn to her but promised his best friend, her deceased.brother, he'd stay away. As they work together, they continue to fight the attraction, but will it win before it's too late? I received a copy of this book from the author, with no expectation of a positive review. These are my own honest thoughts and opinions.

Cassie Thomas is trying to be an independant woman. But childhood cancer, and her brother's murder have brought her mom even more into trying to take care of her. And her mom isn't well, either. But old neighbor, Evan Stone, tells Cassie about Pleasant Shores, and the program run for victims of crimes. And the cottage for that program is right next to Evan's, since he is a cop in the town. All seems great. Until, they figure out that her brother's murderer is looking for Cassie, and Evan's just barely legal troubled son, Oliver, shows up from California.

Nice story in the series

Part of the Off Season series, in which Police officer Evan Stone has regrets about not being in his son's life, but he's here now--although the kid is drinking worse than his father, because Evan is into AA and staying sober. He's intent on solving the murder of his best friend, Cassie's brother.

Cassie wants to help, if only Evan and her parents will stop treating her as if she still has cancer. She insists on being her own woman, but will that prevent Evan from wanting her in ways other than as her protector?

A bonus: what Oliver, Evan's son, find with pregnant Avery.

Another great book by Lee Tobin McClain - Forever on the Bay ( The Off Season #6 ).
Pleasant Shores is filled with the most caring, supportive, and protective people. This book gave you two couples to root for and is full of other people/couples you have read about in her other books. keeping you up to date on what is happening in their lives.
While pulling at your heartstrings, it gets you caught up in the story and turns into an "unput-downable" book.

Take a recovering alcoholic and a woman who survived childhood cancer and this gives you a lot of emotional issues. Add in the woman, Cassie, hearing her brother get shot and the killer may be after her. All these stories are blended perfectly together.

Lee Tobin McClain is a new to me author but I enjoy her books. She is great.

Anyone who likes to read a good romance story will enjoy this book. ‘Forever on the bay’ by Lee Tobin McClain is a tale of love with some mystery mixed in. The author tends to do long descriptions of places, scenes and characters, which makes for interesting reading. I enjoyed this story of mainly two people facing possible death while trying to avoid the inevitable. It was an easy read.
