Welcome to the Enchanted Forest, where the damsels are only in moderate distress and happily ever afters are the norm.

Lina has been raised in a world far too big for her. When her mother dies, she is forced to decide between being alone forever, or betting her life on a legend that may not even exist.

Edrich was a simple farm boy until he made a deal with the wrong man. In order to keep his father alive, he has to make sure Lina stays safe. But there are more dangers than he imagined for a girl no bigger than his thumb.

When Lina decides to traipse off into the deadly Enchanted Forest, Edrich has no choice but to follow her, even when it puts both of their lives on the line. Between deadly unicorns and potent whiskey, the journey may prove even more treacherous than they had anticipated.

Thumbelina retellings are rare, and amazing Thumbelina retellings are even more rare. This one is one of those super rare ones, and it swept me up from page one! I adored Lina's struggles and her longing to fit in. This was one seemingly impossible romance, yet I loved how it all worked out in the end!

This was a fantastic retelling and overall great, unique story! I have deeply enjoyed these authors books and think this one takes the cake in being my favorite.

While we have their signature broody hero and heroine who takes no nonsense, Lina was a very compelling character to me because of how sweet and bright she was. She has deep struggles, but yet gives so much of her heart to others and sees the best in them (whether that be human, elf, creature, and so froth). That was VERY relatable to me! It made me happy as a reader to see such a bright character that felt deeply, but still could do her best to see the joy in a variety of situations.

I deeply loved the themes in this story! I'm not sure even which one to spotlight because they are all so moving! We have the freedom of being able to choose our future (as well as reminding that we SHOULD have the freedom to choose), we have a loving family (and let me repeat A LOVING FAMILY, which is something so needed in fiction today), and we have overlooking others mistakes that were made by others but still affected a said character. It was VERY good! For appearing as what would be a lighter story, these authors wove in something greater than just a happy ending.

Though confession: I didn't know if that would happen or not. UGHHHHHHH ENRICH!!! Our hero…our beloved hero. There was a point that I thought I was about to slam my Kindle case shut and toss it on the other side of my couch because ENRICH MAKE BETTER DECISIONS PLEASE! *rubs forehead* This man made me so frustrated but in a compelling way where you FEEL his pain and just want to open his eyes to a greater truth then what he himself is seeing/believing. Yes, he may be many "negative" things according to him, but he is a good and loyal man. I was happy he made the right choice at the end. LOL!

The worldbuilding was SO creative! So rich! I felt Lina's awe in discovering new things and places in the Enchanted Forest. It was beautiful! It was thrilling! It was at times super scary! (Which makes me wonder if these authors don't have a little bit of pixie dust and shrunk themselves to capture the feel of being so tiny.) I desperately want more of this world because I loved it as a reader and it inspired me as a writer!

Promises and Pixie Dust is such a wonderful story! I highly recommend it if you are looking for compelling characters, creative world building, and a happily ever after!

This was a short, feel-good Thumbelina retelling. I like how the story was told and how exciting their mini adventures were. I like the twist and I appreciate the interaction between the main characters. I was hoping for more details with regards the main guy's job and what his plans are for it though. I kind of wish it was longer too so that I would know what came to be with the choices that they made. Nevertheless, this is still a solid, nice read. I'm curious of the other books in the series now. Hmmm....

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book. It was a great retelling in my opinion. I couldn't put this one down. It kept me entertained and wanting to see how it was all going to work out through the very end.

I love fairytales and I love retellings of fairytales so when I saw this book, I knew it was going to make it to my "want to read" list. With that said, I've never done much with Thumbelina (probably because Disney never made a movie for it). My knowledge really came from the Don Bluth classic and while I loved the film as a kid, Thumbelina was by no means a favorite character of mine. This book put her way more on my radar.

Lina was a perfect Thumbelina. She had characteristics that brought me back to the movie I grew up with (her extroverted personality and ability to make friends) but she also had some new characteristics that were a great addition to me. I loved the fact that her emotions showed in colors on her skin.

Edrich was the sweet farm boy who was best friends with the girl who was the size of his thumb. I loved reading the chapters from his perspective. There were times I wanted to smack him for his communication skills but I really couldn't help but love him.

I loved watching the story unfold. The plot was original enough for me and I appreciated the fact that the novel took place after Lina's mom has passed away. It gave a fresh take of what Thumbelina's life would be like after the woman who raised her was gone. I also loved the more adult take on the story. It's not explicit or anything, definitely suitable for ages under 18, but I liked how the story opened in basically a bar and we meet Lina as she is drinking an adult beverage and is a little tipsy. It made it more believable that the characters were adults regardless of the fact that one of the main characters is the size of my thumb.

The last sentence in the epilogue makes me feel that this is the beginning of a series, but that the other books will focus on other characters. I would label that this book could be read as a standalone as things are for the most part wrapped up nicely by the end (there are a few questions I have but they aren't as crucial to the story line in my opinion).

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fairytales, retellings of fairytales, Thumbelina, etc. I didn't notice any grammatical issues.

Growing up, Thumbelina was my favorite story. I read the story so many times, that the pages were worn and the spine of the book falling apart, and I watched the movie so many times, that to this day, I can recite it word for word; so to say I was excited to see a Thumbelina retelling would be a MASSIVE understatement.

Promises and Pixie Dust was exactly the new spin that this timeless (often overlooked) classic needed.
Lina and Edrich's journey to find answers, themselves and eachother was captivating and enchanting.
The world of Ellaria was painted in rich detail, creating a beautifully spun tale full of wonder and whimsy.

I can't wait to see more from this incredible writing duo!

Read this as a buddy read.

I struggled with this one. If you're the type of person that enjoys a no stakes, cutesy romance in which virtually nothing happens, then you'll probably like this. Yes it was cute, yes it had a happy ending. But the plot is as follows: Ed and Lina go for a long walk. They do a lot of talking. There is minimal danger in the forest, which is supposed to be super dangerous. Lina finds what she's looking for. There is no backlash to past events. Everything is so easy, everyone is so nice, there is no antagonist and no real stakes, which makes it hard to want to keep turning the pages.

I love a good fairytale and I love a good fairytale retelling and this one is just incredible! I haven’t ever read a Thumberlina retelling and the characters and world building are simply awesome! It’s a fun read filled with adventure, a little action, a fantastic feisty female mc despite her size and a grumpy but hot male mc and even some fab secondary characters all which really made the story even the slow burn romance. A magical world and a magical read! I loved it!

This was such a sweet, clean read. It's got dual POV 😁 Lina and Edrich have a complicated relationship. They're childhood friends, secretly with lots of mutual pining 😏 There's a bunch of different supernatural creatures. The side characters really shine. Beautiful world building. Just a wonderful retelling! 💙🍄🦔🧚‍♀️

📚 Some Quotes
I knew Lina was here before I even saw her. Ever since we were kids, I could practically sense her in a room. She may as well have been shooting off beams of sunshine like a beacon, leading me directly to her.
.
“Well, I can see you’re wearing your pleasant pants again today.
His eyebrows rose, what might have been a smile trying to peek through his dark expression. “How could I resist, when they go so well with my somber shoes?”
.
“I can’t say that is fate, so much as a very, very unlikely, improbable, unrealistic coincidence,” I said, and he laughed.

I continue to love what Elbin write together! They give us such wonderful voices, great adventure, sparks, drama, and moments of levity.

This book is no different in that it has all of those things plus a spunky hedgehog banned Maggie 💜

Again, we have distinct choices for each narrator giving us nuggets from their pasts as we go, keeping us wanting more without being frustrating. There are so many complex layers between Edrich and Lina that need to be peeled away and we have that happening throughout the book.

I have one question regarding an oath (later in the book, not the first-revealed oath), but it would be a spoiler, so I'm not saying anything else, but it could be answered lawyer in the series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read just about every fairytale reimagined in one way or another. Never would I have thought to find a Thumbelina retelling. Never would I have thought that it would be this engaging and evoke such depth of emotion. But, knowing it was Ms Madison and Ms Mahle writing it, I'm not surprised. The original version of Promises and Pixie Dust in the Enchanted Kingdoms Anthology was delightful enough. This expanded version was even more fantastic. I know this is a story I will want to read again and again because it is that fantastic.

Thank you to the gorgeously talented Elle and Robin for granting me the opportunity to read their beautiful book in exchange for an honest review.

Promises and Pixie Dust is the first Thumbelina retelling I have seen in the current MASSIVE trend of retellings.

Initially this magical tale featured within the Enchanted Kingdoms collection of retellings but Elle and Robin have now released Lina upon the world as the debut novel in “The Unfabled Series”.
Naturally, a Thumbelina story by Elle and Robin is never going to be your average retelling and, when the story opens on "Lina" drinking pints in 'The Poisoned Apple', it is safe to say that this novel will be just as brilliant as their other works.

At a whole 12 cm tall, Lina has never entirely fit in with the world around her. Everything she owns is adapted to fit her size and she has never met anyone similar to herself. After the death of her mother Lina is determined to find someone else of her kind and, along with her childhood friend Edrich, journeys into the Enchanted forest in search of answers.

Edrich is an unwilling companion to put it mildly and the relationship between him and Lina is very intriguing for the reader. Elle and Robin purposefully drip feed us information regarding the friends and the challenges they have faced up to this point but the undercurrent of tension between the pair make it clear that there is more than friendship and obligation at play here.

This doesn't mean that the reader is not entirely unsympathetic to Edrich's frustration with Lina though. She is often sickeningly chirpy and optimistic with no sense of danger. At the end of the day though, a tiny woman whose mood shows on her skin and rides a hedgehog is a winner in any story.

Promises and Pixie Dust also hints heavily at a recent backstory involving Edrich as he experiences flashbacks and guilt linked to his current line of work. I really hope Edrich gets the chance to tell his own story as I know Piper and Neira will.

I really appreciated the little changes between the Enchanted Kingdoms story and The Unfabled series version. Poor Edrich was very difficult to love in the previous version but has definitely been hit with the empathy stick in recent months! Once his circumstances are (forcibly) changed Edrich almost has a newfound respect for Lina and even before this he isn’t as condescending as his Enchanted Kingdoms counterpart was – I no longer want to punch him in the face anyway so that’s a bonus!

Elle and Robin also developed the world of the fairies a little more, providing more of an insight into their dependence on woodland creatures and even inventing a new sport! The imagery here was so beautiful that I was desperate for illustrations to accompany it.

If you are a fan of retellings, Once Upon a Time, fairies and friends to lovers storylines then this is the tale for you. Promises and Pixie Dust has a freshly manicured hedgehog, a villain with a heart and the best curse words ever imagined.

Frolicking centaurs it's a good read!

This is the fairytale retelling I didn’t know I needed! Promises and Pixie Dust by Robin D. Mahle & Elle Madison, who are quickly becoming one of my favorite author duos, is a sweet, standalone retelling of Thumbelina and included in the anthology Enchanted Kingdoms. Following the story of Lina and Edrich, Promises and Pixie Dust explores the world from two very different points of view as one girl searches for a world she belongs in.

The story opens with Lina saying goodbye to her friends and waiting for one person in particular, Edrich. Lina is preparing to enter the enchanted forest and find people like her. That is, Lina wants to find someone that is her size, not much bigger than your thumb. Since her mother’s passing, the call of the forest and to find others like her has only gotten stronger. And why wouldn’t it? Everything in Lina’s life has to be modified for her to use. That doesn’t stop her. Nothing does! She is a force to be reckoned with, even driving a wagon full of supplies with a complicated system of ropes and pulleys. But now there is nothing stopping her from searching except Edrich.

To say Edrich is shocked to see Lina at the bar, much less her request to accompany her to the Enchanted Forest, is an understatement. Edrich has spent the last few years trying to forget his little friend and the feelings she stirs in him. As his mother pointed out long ago, Lina deserves better than the half-life he can give her and he the same. So he left, joining a group of mercenaries. Now that life haunts him. With a few days off between jobs, he decides to accompany Lina, he can’t let her go on her own after all. There is a bitterness that festers between these two, though Lina is unaware of the cause only the hurt that she feels.

The plot follows these two into the enchanted forest, and I couldn’t love it more! The alternating POV really help bring into focus how the world is seen from a normal sized human like Edrich and Lina’s fairy size. I love their banter, even their tense arguments as you see the tension swelling between these two former friends. My heart ached for them.

Overall, I really enjoyed Promises and Pixie Dust. Thumbelina was one of my favorite cartoons growing up, and the authors brought her to life here. I love how intricate and vivid the details of the forest are from Lina’s perspective. It was easy to imagine myself at her size, seeing the world from her POV. If you enjoy YA fantasy, retellings, and of course a bit of romance, I highly recommend Promises and Pixie Dust.

Thumbelina was one of my favorite movies growing up. I have only read one other retelling and while it was very good this one leaps to the top in my eyes. Elle and Robin are an incredible writing duo, I haven't disliked anything they have put out so far. Their characters are rich, the settings are well laid out. While this novel could be read as a standalone it is also the first in the series. I suspect Rumplestiltskin will be the one who ties the stories together.

Lina has bright teal hair and changes colors with her mood. Her voice and personality are so large you could almost miss that she's thumb-sized. It isn't until her MaMa dies that she realizes exactly how alone in the world she is, leading her to the decision to journey into dangerous forests with her hamster companion Maggie and hopefully her childhood friend Edrich. Unfortunately, through the journey she's wracked with the debilitating back pain she has had all her life. The pain can only be controlled by a rare cream, one that she's almost out of. But is Uncle Stiltskin's cream really helping her pain? Or is it suppressing something much bigger than she can believe?

Edrich is Lina's best friend, but he's grown distant and stays far away from home without a word to Lina, not even a goodbye, despite consistent contact with his family, who also keeps an eye out for Lina. But Edrich has 3 secrets. One, he joined the Huntsman, a band of elite mercenaries. Two, he has been under oath since age 10 to protect Lina at all costs in exchange for a life-saving medication for his father. And three, the reason he left home without saying goodbye in the first place. Will he make the same mistake again?

Rumplestiltskin, Uncle Stiltskin, is a character of his own. He seems to know everything and has a hand in everywhere. From being the trusted friend of a Fairy Queen to a doting Uncle to a blackmailer, Stiltskin will be the character to watch for in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I feel like in my fairly extensive career of reading fairy tale retellings, I've never read a Thumbelina retelling. Lina has spent her entire life living in a village where everything was designed for normal-sized people, and as you might assume from a Thumbelina retelling she is in fact thumb sized. When her mother dies, she decides that she finally wants to seek out the fairies and a world that's built more to her scale. She coerces her childhood friend into going on a quest through the enchanted forest to her as she tries to figure out her past.

I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It's a little strange when you think about the differences in their heights, traditional Thumbelina has her meeting a fairy prince and finally joining a society that she belongs in. This one's a bit different, with a relationship between a tiny girl and a normal sized guy. Like not in the way you might think or anything, it's more of a very drastic statement of looks don't matter when you really click with someone. In that respect, it's sweet and entertaining as you think about all the funny situations they get into (AKA him putting her into his pocket like I laughed a lot).

There were some issues with the dialogue where I felt like it was a bit forced, but all in all it was a short and fun read. I feel like these Kindle Unlimited reads are just built different they're always so quick and just like fulfilling in their duration. Would recommend if you want a fairy tale rewrite that's a little different from the traditional one.

4 stars — Well this was a fun and quirky retelling…not that, I will admit, I know ANYTHING about the story of Thumbelina. I really should look it up. But regardless of knowing very little of the original story, I loved the story that was told in this book.

I kind of loved how both sweet and sunny Lina was, mixed with a fiery temper and take no bull attitude. She maintained such a positive outlook despite the hardships and uncertainty she faced in her life.

Edrich (which I have no idea how to pronounce btw), on the other hand, had kind of let life’s challenges bring him down. Not that I blame him necessarily…especially given the Huntsmen stuff. But it was a bit disheartening to read his negativity at times.

I guess in the end it made them a pretty good match, b/c they could balance one another. My problem with these two was honestly how LONG they spent not talking to each other. I really am not a fan of willful lack of communication, especially when it lasts a LONG time. It was satisfying when they FINALLY got their heads out of their butts though, and I could enjoy that coming together.

The world was kind of fun — lots of interesting races? creatures? beings?? Yeah, beings. I enjoyed that it was this fantasy setting, but with a bit of sassy flair that I don’t always see in fantasy.

I was expecting the plot to go in certain directions, and I think in the end I like the way it went instead.

I loved so many of the secondary characters, from Maggie and Pepper to Aster (and a few others).

All in all definitely a fun reading experience.

As an avid reader of both faerie tale retellings and Elle Madison/Robin D. Mahle, this was a no brainer. Obviously it jumped to the front of my TBR pile and I devoured it far too quickly.

Something I really like about all of the Elle Madison&Robin D. Mahle books I've read are that even though I can read them in a day they have tons of substance and plot. I'm never left feeling like they were skipping over scenes or cutting them short.

I have vivid memories of watching Thumbelina as a child - you know, that silly little animated film with frogs and a faerie prince. It was never a favorite and never something I actively sought out after the age of ten, but this book brought back all those memories.

Lina, our heroine in Promises and Pixie Dust, is far from the innocent faerie from the movie though. And Edrich is definitely no prince. Their relationship -revealed along their journey - is complex and nuanced and not exactly what it first appears to be.

The other thing I liked about this was that there was no true bad guy or evil person to fight. It was a satisfying story of a girl who wanted to find her place in the world and a boy who would do anything to keep her happy.

Thank you for that brief transportation to a beautiful world where faeries exist and true love isn't dependent on size.

I started reading Promises and Pixie dust with no expectations, since I didn’t know how the fairy tale of Thumbelina went. The authors won’t disappoint you with their retelling full of adventure, friendship and romance. From the beginning, you want to get to know Lina and Edrich better and discover more about their friendship. But being honest, just like in Two Worlds Apart, I sighed more than once because some of the problems or misunderstandings could easily be solved or prevented by really talking to each other and telling the other what you think. But then the story wouldn’t be that interesting, right? I also really liked Lina’s optimism and her desire to find a place where she belongs. However, a small side of critique is that during the whole story, everything feels too good to be true. Even when something goes wrong or danger seems to be lurking around the corner, everything’s soon back to normal without too much of a struggle. Same with the ending of the story, it feels a bit rushed, like everything had to work out and come to an end in these 20 pages instead of taking some more time to give the story the more spacious ending it deserved. After reading this book, I went to look up the original Thumbelina story out of curiosity. Now I can truthfully say that I liked the retelling more than the original story.

Thank you for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review, I enjoyed the story.

An Enchanting Read

Authors Madison and Mahle come together to give us a charming, fantasy romance. Main character, Lina is a winsome delight. From her small stature to her eternal optimism, she has such a unique view of the world. Enter Edrich. An old friend? Edrich seems to be Lina's total opposite; he's tall, jaded, and bound by responsibilities. So what is he to do when Lina asks him to accompany her and her hedgehog on a crazy, bumpy adventure?

What I love about this author duo is how character-driven their stories are. And Promises and Pixie Dust is no exception. Told from the main characters' alternating points-of-view, we watch as these characters grow-up, and back to each other.

For those wondering, I would say this story is more relationship-focused than adventure. But the pacing and world-building does not suffer for it. It is well-written and edited. And the writing between the two authors is seamless.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet, fairytale retelling. And I look forward to more stories in this world.

3.5/5 stars

At first, I wasn’t 100% into the book. It felt a little slow but I did like the concept so I kept reading. Thank goodness I did but I ended up loving the book.

The concept of the book was super fun, a typical sense of “enemies to lovers” but in a fun friendly way. The characters had great arcs, great development and great chemistry between each other.

I enjoyed the banter, the back and forth of emotions for them and the final get together. I know the book is a retelling, but honestly I couldn’t place it, I actually don’t think I’ve read it but I liked the connection all the same.

I was expecting something to go wrong at the end. The last 5 or so chapters turned into just a sweet moment, no evil characters, just the movements between the two main. I guess I’ve read too many cliffhanger books because I was fully prepared for an evil villain or a death. I was pleasantly surprised at the lack of it.

Overall this book is a fun, easy read. A sweet story about finding yourself and understanding your feelings. Really enjoyed it ☺️

Ahh! Another great novel by these authors! I've had the pleasure of reading some of their other works, and this one I found to be just as enjoyable and interesting as the others. First off, I thought the characters were really unique and loveable. Lina isn't your everyday damsel that needs saving from some mucho cocky bastard. Instead, she's strong, intelligent, has a massive heart, and adventurous. I found myself really relating to her character and it was enjoyable to see her interact with Edrich! This book had amazing and compelling world-building writing, which I thought was quite creative and unique.

I also found that this story had a lot of really great morals that are perfect for younger readers. Things like: the ideal of freedom, trying this out and going with the flow, healthy relationship building (whether it's romantic or friendship), communication, family comes first, and many others. I also liked how the authors made Lina, not a perfect character but one that has her own struggles and personal issues that she needs to experience and overcome herself.

This book really got me over here silently screaming. All the ANGST it’s so so amazing like I’m honestly speechless. THE BUILD UP is like wholly tedious but so worth it! I cannot express enough how much I feel that from the pages.

I have to admit, I really only read this for the romance because IT WAS THERE. I wish the plot was it for me too, but it really wasn’t. The plot twists, or just the development in the plot, was just a little too predictable for me. There was little times where I was caught off guard, I was more like just sitting there waiting for it to happen. I was really just here for the character development because THAT was *chefs kiss*.

I do want to compliment the great mixture of atmospheric detail, dialogue, and world building. I felt like it was all evenly balanced, it wasn’t shoving information down my throat- it was gently putting me aware. Which I really appreciate because it is what made it enjoyable and easy to read, everything flowed so neatly.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing me with an ebook advance reader copy for free- in exchange of me leaving a review both honestly and voluntarily.

Cute Story

I love fairy tale retellings but for some reason never thought I would read a Thumbelina one 😄 This was a really cute story! My only complaint is that everything was resolved so quickly. I thought there would have been some underlying plot in fairy land, or something having to do with Edrich being a huntsman for an evil queen, but in the end it seemed the only conflict was a lack of communication between Lina and Edrich and even that resolved fairly quickly. But I'm a sucker for cute, clean romances and I love the creativity of having Thumbelina falling for a full size human and having Rumplestiltskin as an uncle so I'm giving this book four stars.

As a side note, I really love these authors Twisted Pages series which is also a set of fairy tales retellings but with a much more involved and sinister plot.

Truth moment, I was very skeptical of a fairy tale about a main character the size of a thumb where a large part of the storyline is romance. Especially when the book opens with no one in her town being her size and no one even knew if pixies still existed. Oh, and the only guy introduced in the first chapter who could possibly have been “the one” was full size. I almost quit.
But then a little voice told me to keep going (it was my friend who read it before me and couldn’t wait to gush about it with me so she kept texting me to READ FASTER!). So I kept going. And WOW! I LOVED IT!!!
The fights, the action, the character growth, the making up, the romance- it was enough to squeeze strawberry lemonade from my heart.
I so loved this book 💗

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was the first retelling of Thumbelina that I have read. It was a beautiful "mash up" of stories that I grew up with - Thumbelina and Rumplestiltskin.

I was instantly drawn to Lina and Edrich characters and this whole story. The 2 different worlds that were created by the authors were incredible.. i felt like i was transported there.. The characters were well developed and grew throughout the story. I was totally captivated and couldn't put the book down.

There was friendship, adventure and love. There was a chance for redemption, new found friendships and family and love.

I found myself cheering at some parts and even agreeing with Rumplestiltskin "idiots", lol. I can't wait to read more in this series.

Elle and Robin have done it again! I always love their fairytale retellings and this one was definitely worth the wait.

Not only does it have a spirited hedgehog in it (who doesn’t love hedgehogs?) but the main female protagonist, Lina, is a character with such boldness and depth. She has fears and doubts just like all of us, but pushes herself to go after what she wants deep down and does not let anyone stop her because of how they perceive her size. Though she’s a fictional character, I really feel a connection to her throughout the story. I feel that we should all learn from her perseverance and bravery.

Elle and Robin intertwine fairytales in this retelling seamlessly and I am absolutely in love with it. 5 stars all the way for this one!

Lists of things I didn’t realize my life was missing will include this Thumbelina retelling. This book was EVERYTHING I needed, a pint sized female MC who had more sass than most full sized females, A broody best friend/huntsman, Rumpelstiltskin, A fairy wonderland and one of my favorite Characters a hedgehog that is partial to a good pedicure.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Robin and Elle’s writing partnership I absolutely love everything they write.

This was a fantastic retelling that I just couldn’t put down I loved the conclusion of the story and found the side characters highly entertaining too.

When I was recommended this book, I couldn't purchase it quick enough. This was a fast-paced fantasy novel and a slow burn romance.

I loved the ingenuity of this retelling adding in additional characters and a differentiated plot line. I don't want to put any spoilers in this, so I won't say much, but the characterization was good in this novel. I felt like I both main characters were static, but that's not a bad thing.

The only criticism I have is to add more details toward the end of the story because the storyline seemed rushed in the final chapters. A longer book would have been just fine with me! 😀

This is a lovely friends-to-antagonists-to-lovers story about Lina who leaves her adoptive home among the humans to find her people. She’s such a wonderfully determined and steadfast character. I also loved the message about finding a place to belong and that no matter how impossible, things can work out when you focus on what’s truly important. The plot is relatively simplistic, but enter enough, and the romance is very sweet.

Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed in this book because it claims to be a Thumbelina retelling. This story has absolutely nothing to connect it to Andersen’s classic fairytale. This story is its own thing and should be read as such.

I wasn’t quite sure what I would think about a Thumbelina retelling. It’s not my favorite story, because sometimes it can get weird, but somehow these two authors made me love it. There’s something sweet and happy about the story while at the same time making me cry like a baby at parts. Its fast pace doesn’t allow for unnecessary descriptions and other things that I would have skimmed.
Wonderful characters, an intriguing world, and a highly entertaining plot line make this book an excellent series opener. I can’t wait for more from this world.
