Brothers look out for brothers. Usually… With the Merc Guild opening up contracts again, it’s Zuul eat Zuul to get one as there are far more companies looking for work than there are contracts to be had. So when Taylor Van Zant gets an inside line on a 30-million-credit contract for Swamp Eagle Security, he races to Karma to throw his hat in the ring. Unfortunately, Taylor arrives to find that the other North Florida mercenary company—the River Hawk Defense Group —is also bidding, and Taylor is forced to watch as they steal the contract out from under the Eagles. Which might have been a good thing, Taylor finds out later, as the River Hawks return beaten and bloodied from it. But only half of the River Hawks returned…the other half disappeared. And if there’s one thing Taylor stands for, it’s solidarity with his mercenary brothers, even when they may not have done him a good turn to start with. So, with only a fraction of his company available, Taylor decides to go find out what happened to the missing people. It’s what brothers do. But what he finds will make him rue that decision and draw him firmly into the Guild Wars.
As a graduate of Florida State University, sci-fi author Ian J. Malone has written in a variety of arenas ranging from public health to news and sports. When it comes to his fictional work, however, he’s a firm believer that nothing shapes a person’s writing like experience. That’s why he credits his tenures in radio, law enforcement, and military contracting for much of his inspiration, plus the legion of family and friends who’ve stood with him along the way.
Beyond writing, Malone is an avid fan of audiobooks (he’s legally blind) and the outdoors. It’s also not uncommon to find him at a ballgame, a concert, or somewhere out by a grill.
Malone is an active member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America and a resident of Durham, North Carolina — but he’ll always be a “Florida boy” at heart
Swamp Eagle security is back... With a vengeance... The only problem being, it's not their vengeance... The book is full of twists and turns and a very, very enjoyable read. The characters are great, nobody feels uni-dimensional and there is lots and lots of action. What at first happened to look like a side story evolves to something else entirely in the end, revealing another aspect of the guild wars with some nice revelations coming along the way... But for the real juicy stuff, you shall have to wait for the epilogue!
Another book in the 4HU! A good solid read about another Southern Merc Unit! The characters are likeable and well written and the plot is cleverly written to tie in with other events but in whole it felt like something was missing, it lacked a bit of suspense and to me the break out was all too quick and over with too quickly. Still an entertaining read!
Whole redneck stupid swamp people was played out last book. Just get rid of them and find a new subject to use. Way to much stupid southerner in this book like last time. Not beneficial to the story line. Now unfortunately we have to endure another book with Swamp Peoples and more stupid ayew.....
A great installment following the resident red-necks. This one isn't loaded with action and seems quite short, however it makes up with plenty of drama, mysteries opened and answered. The Epilogue was great and things are lining up nicely.
