Sugar is in HOT water, and it’s gonna take a village to save her!
Nothing’s more dangerous than a lover scorned, especially one with fangs. Gabriel is about to find that out, but he’s only the consolation prize. The real goal is Pearl May Mobley, and Sugar will be the ultimate weapon if she doesn’t end up in jail—or at the bottom of the river—first.
Meanwhile, the howlers are coming out in full force, and Sea Bass has his own ghosts from the past to deal with.
Katie is stuck somewhere in the middle, trying to juggle all the chaos, including her own wedding plans. But the dominos are falling fast, and people she loves will die if she doesn’t cave to blackmail.
And then there are the bodies popping up on a regular basis. Coincidence? Or is there another threat in town?
Luanne Bennett is an author of fantasy and the supernatural. Born in Chicago, she lives in Georgia these days where she writes full time and doesn’t miss a thing about the cubicles and conference rooms of her old life. When she isn’t writing or dreaming up new stories, she’s usually cooking or tending a herd of felines and basset hounds. Look for book three of the Katie Bishop series coming this spring!
„Conjure Queen” is the sixth installment in the “Katie Bishop” UF Series by Luanne Bennett, a captivating, innovative and gritty urban fantasy, whose unapologetic heroine is already well known to all fans of intelligent, well-crafted UF stories, who rely on carefully world-building and interesting characters to bring the story across, and in which UF – fortunately! – is not merely an acronym for ‘Unreasonable-amounts of Full-up-sex”, sorry (not sorry) about the rant, but regrettably there have been a lot of ‘that’ taking over the UF in the last year(s), so let me be very clear, when I tell you that “Katie Bishop” is urban fantasy at core: realistic stories, set in a world much like our own, with the sole difference of displaying fantastic elements and creatures, who live side-by-side with us.
Katie Bishop is strong, relatable, and witty, doing the job, just because it must be done, but she isn’t a kind of some untouchable superhero, better-than-thou hero set in some sublime pedestal. Quite the opposite, Katie is a relatable character, with very human limitations, while remaining strong and focused on her assignments, very supportive of her friend and unstoppable against her enemies, and most importantly an ever-evolving character, which makes every re-reading of the series worthwhile. From Crossroads of Bones (Book 1) to Bayou Kings (Book 5) Katie’s development is not only steadily, but fully believable and utterly realistic. As such it doesn’t come as a surprise that “Conjure Queen” is even better as all its processors, which is surprising though is how much better. This is a non-stop fast-paced adventure, with Katie caught right in the middle of a lover’s quarrel between Sugar, Pearl Me and Gabriel, while still trying to keep on schedule with her own weeding plans, but there is even worse than a ‘fanged’ lover’s dispute, for instance a deadly blackmail with those you love as collateral.
Luanne Bennett’s writing style is – as always- fantastic. The book is well-written and carefully edited; the story is fast-paced, a veritable page-tuner with a balanced mix of fast-action and in-deep description, a smart plot, fully enjoyable from start to finish, a surely wonderful addition to the series. The story, while technically the sixth in the series, can also be read on its own should you be a newcomer to the series, just make sure to pick the previous installments afterwards…. Sorry, what was I thinking? No need to point that out, you’ll be doing that all on your own 😉
This is a great story, one that once you pick it up you will get sucked in and not be able to put it down! Fast paced and action packed, the story will just sweep you away and the heroine is so awesome and kick ass! Great storyline, fantastic characters this is one adventure not to miss!
Katie has her hands full in this one as a new Vampire Conjurer Woman comes into Savanna with a grudge to settle with one of her friends and then decides to take it out on everyone in her circle of friends just when she starts talking a little bit of time. But when Sea Bass disappears from the scene Katie gets very nervous because he’s one of the family/friends she cares greatly about and she has to find out what is going on with him before she decides whether to replace him at the shop or wait until he returns. This is just the beginning of the chaos that erupts when this strange Vampire enters into Savanna and once again Katie is called upon to help with the Grove to save Savanna and it’s people from a fate worse than death in episode 6 of The Katie Bishop Series, Conjure Queen. It’s definitely not for the feint of heart, with its dark side and it’s many killings. But its softer side will have you smile and laugh out loud with its dark humor. If you like this kind of book then it’s worth reading! Really enjoyed reading it and highly recommend reading this series. Off to read the next book. See you in the next review.
If feels so good to be back in the world or Katie Bishop. I live all of the colorful characters especially Sugar and the plot is odd the charts. This time Katie and Jackson are planning their wedding but before they can even get started a new threat is on the horizon.
Someone or something has targeted Sugar in an attempt to get to her mother, May. Sundra, a vampire from Gabriel’s past and who held him captive for 6 years is responsible even though everyone saw her die. How is this possible? To make matters worse she has also brought back two other vampires from the dead, Colin and DeLarca.
As Sundra targets Katie and her friends she is cocky and thinks taking down May will be easy. Oh yee if little faith. That attitude will definitely turn when May opens up a can of whupass on her! There is plenty of action, intrigue and mystery. My only complaint is that there were not even Katie and Jackson moments. Hopefully the next installment will take care of that.
My biggest complaint however is beyond relevant now and it's kinda dumb but it's SO friggin infuriating it's hard to get past and changes my opinion of her character.... Who, you ask?? Effin SELFISH risk everyones life and not to mention consideration for her and how much everyone's trying to keep her and her especially her friggin mother safe to sneak out of her safehouse for the most selfish of reasons and that's to get laid. It's pathetic and she gets what she deserves by being accused of murder never mind putting everyone in danger again AND adding to all their already massive problems. She doesn't deserve any of them. And there is no sorry big enough for that bullshit. Not that she even seems that sorry and also gotnKatie attacked. Some friend I say again tho she sure loves to push the bff she doesn't walk the walk. THERE! I'm done ranting. Otherwise... AMAZING! ❤️
I received an ARC from the author but this review is my own. I was very happy when I found out there was another Katie Bishop book, the book is definitely Urban Fantasy at its best, full of action and character development, you get to find out more about Sea Bass and his clan, also more about Sugar and her mum May, I love May's garden makes me want to visit so I can see it all for myself. I love the way the book is written always makes you keep reading and not put it down. It was nice to be introduced to a couple of new characters Jessie and Thor (would be nice to know their story). All in all this book is a fantastic read and I look forward to more stories from Luanne Bennett. This book has everything you need from an Urban Fantasy book, shifters, vampires, witches etc... you won't be disappointed.
I have loved my girl, Katie, since she showed up in the Fitheach Trilogy. I had hoped that the author would expand on her character, never thinking that it would the creation of a whole new series. What a series it is.
This latest book brings us back to our crazy friends in Savannah for more magic, monsters, and mayhem (my favorite). I really missed the fun storyline that Ms. Bennett creates with her characters. She always manages to find the perfect balance of witty and loyalty with characters. I especially liked that we got to learn more about Seabass in this book. The only downside is that I always manage to fly through these books in one sitting, so have to wait for the next.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to review an ARC of this work. It in no way influenced my opinions
Luanne, you did it again. I got so nervous about Abel I had to put the book down for a couple of days. Then I steeled myself and was rewarded with another victory to May and the Grove. The interesting thing about this series is that although Katie is the hero, the battles are often won without her direct involvement, although she always contributes in essential ways, like healing Abel. He's one tough cookie, in spite of being the only member of the team with no supernatural capabilities. Everyone works hard to accomplish the goal together, and new characters keep joining the war against darkness. I hope we'll be seeing Jesse Ames and Thor again soon! And I'd be interested in pursuing the hints from the last book at Jackson having warlock powers. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Nothing’s more dangerous than a lover scorned, especially one with fangs. Gabriel is about to find that out, but he’s only the consolation prize. I did like this series was not a fan of Jackson at first but he showed loyalty and I warmed to him , Katie I am starting to get fed up with it all being about her.this book is about Gabriel and also may, Gabriel ex who held him prisoner for 6 years is back from the dead and wants him back plus she wants to take mays place so attacks her by going for her daughter sugar. So how do this book end up being about Katie having to close her shop oh its her friend poor katie.
I know the series is about Katie Bishop but really, I know she is a Dragon so big and powerful yes as a shifter she is at the top, but we have also other magical beings Jackson is a warlock. It's written that her friends are important to her but still it does read all about her.
It’s very true what they say – evil never really dies! Which is just what Gabriel finds when his once lover breezes into town, determined to reclaim him, but also take Sugar’s mama with her. The whole Society is put on high alert and Sugar’s life is held in the balance. Can the Society meet this new threat and save their Conjure Queen, whilst keeping Sugar safe? It’s going to take more than just the Society as we meet a new hero with her adorable sidekick, along with the whole McCabe Clan. As if all of this isn’t enough – there’s a wedding to plan as our favourite dragon is getting hitched!
This was an amazing addition to the series. It felt like forever before Conjure Queen came out, but it was worth the wait.
Katie and Jackson were missed, along with the rest of the crew in Savannah. The storyline was a good one with plenty of plots, keeping my attention. I read this book in one sitting and don't regret a second of it. Also, great job to the editor(s) as I only saw like three places where the wrong word was used or there was a typo; like "were" instead of "where" and "if" instead of "of".
Now to wait for the next installment to the series.
Nothing’s changed in my complaints but DAYUM can Bennett bring out the spook. I dare not even talk about what I don’t know but mama May was fierce in this book and I almost wish this was a show just so I could see this all play out in HD.
Jesse finally got introduced- yay! I read her new series and decided to finish Katie because of it.
I love Luanne Bennett’s imagination in this series, and she added another awesome female in this book; Jesse Ames. Gabriel called her to Savannah to find Sundra, and to help get rid of her for good this time. But it’s going to take everyone doing their part. But not everyone is going to make it through without suffering harm.
Luanne Bennett us a master storyteller. This 6th book in the Katie Bishop series was wonderful. The heroine is so strong and loyal to her friends. I just love reading these books. This last one did not disappoint.
Things have definitely escalated and the southern hoodoo magic is brimming over throughout the book. It’s very interesting and totally creepy, but kept me glued to the book!
Wow, these books just get better. Plenty of action and strange supernatural creatures. Murders and magic with a touch of romance thrown in. I can't wait to read the next book and I highly recommend all these books to anyone that likes this genre.
We FINALLY have a chance to feature Sugar and THIS is what we get? This could have been so much more. A little of Sugar’s backstory - even how she ended up with the El Dorado. Instead, we get more Katie save the day while Sugar hides at her mama’s house. Sadness.
Gabriel's nemesis Sundra has come back from the dead and is trying to take over Savannah. She's the vampire that held Gabriel captive for six years. Now she wants Sugars' Mama Mays position.
This was one of my favorite books in the series. It had a great plot with lots of action. I enjoy getting to know the characters better with each book. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Book 6 as a vampire/conjurer who wants Gabriel back and to become the conjure queen of Savannah. Everyone is in major danger. There are multiple murders, plenty of mystery, magic galore, and the final love story. Highly entertaining.
Luanne Bennett is always good for an action story, and Conjure Queen does not disappoint. I love the relationships Katie is developing. I love the magic and macabre sides of the story. I am moving straight on to the next book!
