Rate this book
How perceptive are cats to the good (or bad) behaviour of humans? How do they differ from breed to breed? Are some left handed and some right-handed? How can you tell if your pet is lonely? And just how similar is your cat to a tiger?

In WHAT YOUR CAT IS THINKING the researcher, biologist and author Bo Söderström weaves together fascinating facts we're only just learning about man's best friends, with highly practical tips to help us better understand and care for the animals in our life. Research on cat and dog behaviour, and the complicated psychology which influences their responses and needs has formally exploded in the 21st century, with fascinating new knowledge gained every day.

Bo Söderström has an iron grip on all the cutting edge research to match the most determined cat's hold on his favourite catnip toy, and here he presents the most interesting results in an easy-to-understand way. Learn about the interaction between man and pet, understand your cat's mysterious signals, immerse yourself in those earliest moments, and gain the ability to stare into your animal's eyes and think 'Iget you'.

Yleistajuinen, mutta tieteelliseen tutkimukseen pohjautuva teos kisulaisten mielenmaisemasta. Kirjoittaja referoi tutkimuskirjallisuutta helppolukuisesti ja mukavan konkreetilla, kesykissan arjen kokoisella otteella. Kepeästä ulkoasusta ja graafisuudesta plussaa.

Confirmed what I already knew: My fluff, David... he really loves me.

Nonfiction. Cats. Research.

In this book, Söderström has collected and compiled research on cats on everything from indoor vs outdoor to litter and play.

Separated by topic, each chapter contains illustrations. A list of references is available in the back.

Studies in this book included cats from Sweden, UK, Netherlands and US, among others.

This book was so hyped when it came out in Sweden and again when it was translated to Finnish, so I was happy to get my paws on it in English. Unfortunately I come away from it disappointed. The author just basically repeats experiments done regarding cats into a small book. And most results are obvious. He fails to explain why cats do x and not y, only tells facts and numbers. I didnt learn anything from the book and it wasn't entertaining either.

Informative, written in simple language yet includes many scientific studies, each chapter has a summary so it's very easy to follow. Nice read, I didn't expect to actually learn much but I did! It's a decent level of knowledge for most pet owners, and includes plenty of references if you want to learn more.

I just got a 10 week old kitten, having never owned a cat before - and I'm really appreciative of the clear advice and insight this book provides! I especially liked the explanations of feline body language, behaviours and sounds. The comparison of cat and dog behaviours was really eye-opening - I'm more used to dogs and would definitely have misinterpreted my cat's body language because of this. I would have loved to read even more on these topics!

I'd absolutely recommend this book for other new cat owners - but I imagine it's less interesting for experienced cat owners who'd probably see a lot of these research findings as common sense.

This is a useful little book, but a little longer than it need have been. I understand the intent of providing 'scientific' information based on studies and tests created by academics, but having read this book from cover-to-cover, I have found the approach more than a little tedious.

But I have discovered very much, and for that I am glad. Three stars.
