Explore the supernatural history of Circus City For decades, ghosts have been known to inhabit some of Baraboo's most prized historic locations. Buildings and mansions built by the Ringling Brothers at the height of their circus empire now harbor apparitions of unidentified children, horse trainers, and other circus workers. Residents throughout the Downtown Baraboo Historic District describe disembodied voices, footsteps, and items moving on their own. Even historic homes, new homes, and roadways have ghosts - a family awakening to find their dining room table set for a party of ten, a little girl realizing her "friend'? isn't getting any older, a Highway 12 hitchhiker materializing despite the highway being rerouted. Founder of Baraboo Tours, Shelley Mordini and tour guide Gwen Herrewig share tales of Baraboo's more mysterious side.
It's creepy and it's kooky Mysterious and spooky It's all together ooky It's Haunted Baraboo!
I enjoyed this book. It brought back some creepy memories of a friend's house when I was growing up and the weird things that happened there. Some parts of it gave me goosebumps, just like the haunted tour I took in the town. I would like to go back and revisit someday and check out some of the places mentioned in the book, like the Old Baraboo Inn!
Excellent history read. Went there for a weekend and one place we stopped in was the Old Baraboo Inn. My husband and I had a few drinks, and talked to the two bartenders, who just happened to be ghost hunters as well. We did their special ghost hunting event with a couple of other different ladies. There was a group of us and...yes, it is haunted!
As a resident of Baraboo I can say that this book does not disappoint! I love our town's history of spirits and ghosts- it's one of the reasons I love living here! For anyone who wants real stories of the unexplained then this is most definitely the book for you.
What a fun book! I loved the history and the spooky stories. I really want to visit and use this book as a guide. So much is contained between these two covers.
Too. Much. Fun. But I'm biased since I work with one of the authors. Disappointed that I haven't seen a ghost yet even though I've been to many of the public places written about in the book...
