Honey Hill #1

Something So Sweet

Rate this book
A devoted small-town mayor confronts an old flame over the fate of a historic inn in this delightful romance from author Joy Avery.

Honeybees, history, and small-town charm are what Honey Hill, North Carolina, is all about. Its mayor, Lunden Pierce, will stop at nothing to protect the town’s historical landmarks and distinctive character. She’s Honey Hill’s greatest champion.

But everything changes when Lunden’s childhood sweetheart, Quade Cannon, returns to town. Though Quade has fond memories of his summers in Honey Hill, he has no use for the historic inn he’s inherited—or the honeybees living in its yard. His plan is to sell the inn and reap the rewards.

For Lunden, though, the threat to Honey Hill’s history means war. Determined to change Quade’s mind, she immerses him in the town’s charm and its honeybee culture. But while he’s falling for Honey Hill, he falls for Lunden, too—and the feeling is mutual. As their summer romance heats up, Lunden has a choice to make: the town she loves or the man who threatens to change it.

This is the first book by Joy Avery that I have read. I am really glad that I did, and I will read more by her.

This is a wonderful love story. Lunden and Quade knew each other when they were young. In fact, they were in love until Quade left and never returned breaking Lunden’s heart. The anger that Lunden felt for Quade for breaking her heat only grew after she found out that he planned to sell the inn that was left to him by his aunt.

When Quade came to town initially, he planned to be there six months, which was required in order to receive his inheritance, sell the inn. He had no desire to stay in a small town. That is until he meets Zachary, not knowing that he is Lunden’s son, Zachary and Quade form a friendship. Their friendship forces Lunden to have to deal with Quade way more than she wants to, initially.

As Lunden and Quade work through their business dealings and their personal relationship they also have to work through their past together. This was a wonderful story and taking the ride with Lunden and Quade as they work through their past and current situation was wonderful.

This was a fast, easy read. It had everything that I was looking for. It had funny moments, some family drama, secrets and of course the wonderful small-town gossips. Everything that is needed in a great read.

I definitely recommend this book to everyone. I can’t wait to read more in this new series by Joy Avery.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake publishing for the opportunity to read this wonderful story in exchange for an honest review.

3 1/2 'Spicy Hallmark movie" Stars!

This was a good small town, second chance, single mom romance. A little bit predictable, but still sweet with just enough spice. I think I'm going to read the second book. It's the sheriff and the town baker. Sweet already. Happy reading!

Something So Sweet is a sweet story. Quade and Lunden are meant to be, although 5th begin at odds over a bee infested inn. They have a history together, but Quade just wants to cut out and move onto to the next venture. Can this charming NC town change his mind? The chemistry between the two main characters is good and Zachary adds an amusing element. Thanks to Montlake and NetGalley for the early read.

Although I enjoyed most of this story, Zachery, Lunden's son, kept me reading page after page. This precious little child was the glue in this story and sometimes demonstrated more common sense than the so-called grown-ups in his life.

Lunden and Quade were just drowning in miscommunication, listening to their haters instead of speaking t0 each other directly. Between the nosy neighbors and the meddling town people, they didn't have a clue as to what was really going on in their relationship.

Something So Sweet is my first book by Joy Avery and it truly was a joy to read. As this was a small-town, second-chance romance full of charm, colourful characters, plenty of sweetness and little drama, and I was utterly engaged throughout. And I'm really looking forward to reading more from this series and author in the future.

I would happily recommend.

Small town. Second Chance

Little Zachary steals the show once again.
Per usual I’m constantly reading a series out of order. This is the first book of the series, however it can be read as a standalone(see my review of the 2nd book, which I read first) .

Lunden & Quade were teenage lovers but one summer Quade left and never returned with out any explanation. Fast forward 20 years and Quade is back in Honey Hill because his Aunt passed away and left him the Inn. This is the second time he’s had to grieve her death, I’ll let you read the story to find out why.

Lunden wants nothing to do with Quade because she still holding onto a teenage grudge and hurt feelings. However, they are both drawn to one another I mean it’s a small town, she really can’t avoid him especially if Zachary has anything to do with it .
This story is full of people, but the main characters are fully developed and well written. This is absolutely a slow burn, I wasn’t sure it was going any where. The first kiss wasn’t until 3/4 in. But I do recommend this book if you love a second chance.
Little Zachary was the best part of the book😀

Quade had no wants for his inheritance until he almost ran down the town's Mayor. We never get over our first love. A “Sweet” second chance!

I enjoyed this first in a series small town, second chance romance.

It was my first by Avery, and certainly won’t be the last. I liked her writing style, characters, chemistry and the slow burn.

Definitely a recommendation from me! Lunden is a very strong female lead - she’s the mayor, a single mom who escaped a terrible marriage, and not looking for excuses from the boy who took her v-card and disappeared so many years before, and is just in town to sell the property he inherited from his aunt and flee again…. Definitely a very enjoyable read.

A second chance love story between two strong-willed ex-lovers is it. It is the thing you want in a love story. An adorable little boy is the icing for the story. Need I say, I laughed, cried, cheered, and rooted for this stubborn couple to find love again. Yes, I think, no- I promise, you will adore this one...

J.A is a new author to me and I have to say that I will once click the next book in the series.
I live small town romance stories with family drama and gossips! Lunden and Quade were meant to be until Quade left …
When he comes back he’s a changed man- he is determined … determined to sell the inn and to move on with his life- one single problem , his childhood sweetheart is now the mayor of Honeybees and she won’t give up without a fight!

Lunden and Quade are a wonderful couple and the passion between them is *Swoon!

Will Lunden successfully save her town and the inn or will she sacrifice everything for love?

Ms. Avery is a new to me author, but I am so happy I discovered her. I love her style and her story was easy to read. I will be reading more of her books.

This book fills that small town, slow burn, second chances box that this reader loves. I am now engaged for the book's duration by adding colorful characters, lovely descriptions, and a delightful child. I look forward to more in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Thank you Joy Avery for allowing me to read the ARC of Something So Sweet. I enjoyed the little town of Honey Hill and all its characters. Lunden Pierce, mayor of Honey Hill will do everything she can to keep her town’s historical landmarks including making her old high school crush Quade Cannon see what a mistake it would be to sell and walk away from the Inn.

Quade has great memories of the little town but he has no interest in keeping the Inn or staying in Honey Hill any longer than he has too. What he doesn’t see coming is the chemistry and determination of Lunden.

As Quade and Lunden get reacquainted and chemistry rises they learn what a special little town it really is.

I enjoyed the first book in this series and patiently waiting on the second one.

I received this book as an ARC copy the book is scheduled for release in Jan 2022. Something So Sweet is correctly named because this was a sweet second chace love story. Lunden and Quade were young lovers and when he never returned to Honey Hill that last summer it broke her heart. The anger Lunden felt towards Quade for breaking her young heart intensified after she became aware of his plan to sell her beloved inn. Quade's plans were to come into town exist for the six months required to receive his inheritance and get out of dodge. Quade had no use for the inn or small town living, he was not looking for a reunion with his teenage love. Quade was not prepared for the power packed in the form of six year old Zachary, son of his former teenage love. Before he was aware that it was happening Zachary and Quadehad a friendship that forced a friendship with Lunden also. These three form a deep bond and before they realize it or are ready to acknowledge it Quade and Lunden are once again falling for each other.
Tthis story was as sweet as the honey havervested in Honey Hill. I recommend this book to new and old readers of Joy Avery. I look forward to the next release about the inhabitants of Honey Hill.

Something so sweet by Joy Avery is the first book in the Honey Hill Series. This is Lunden and Quade‘s story.

Lunden is the mayor of Honey Hill and she is like a super woman and also a single mother and business woman. In addition, she is loving, smart and hard working, which I admire, but at times Lunden seemed almost too perfect and I don’t know how she could handle all of this.

Quade has fond memories of his summer’s in Honey Hill and now years later comes back as he inherits his aunt’s inn. The Inn is not only a historical landmark, but also the well beloved centre of Honey Hill. When Quade wants to sell it, the people and especially Lunden are not fond of this. Little by little however Quade enjoys small town life more and more.

Lunden and Quade were childhood sweethearts back then, but after Quade went away, they had no contact. When he comes back Lunden is quite skeptical of him, but her son actually befriends Quade and that was so wonderful and from there the two also get closer. It was very sweet, but at times I didn’t know where the story was going and how they could end back together.

Overall, if you like small town second chance romances then check Something so sweet out. 3 stars.

“We fall in love by chance. We stay in love by choice. I choose you to love, Lunden. I choose you.” – Quade Cannon

★★★.75/5
🌶🌶/5

Blurb:
This story starts off with Quade coming back to his hometown of Honey Hill where he was gifted an Inn from his late Aunt. While Quade is entering the two for the first time in 20 years, he almost runs over the Mayor, Lunden Pierce. Lunden is a single parent of a 6-year-old boy named Zachery. Quade and Lunden were very close growing up. They did everything together and they were each other’s firsts and high school sweethearts. So, what happens when these two collide after 20 years of no communication?

Review:
This book is a solid 3.75 stars. I really enjoyed how to couple started out as enemies and loathe each other’s soul, but by the end of the book they found the love they had for each as kids again. I personally feel like Lunden’s son, Zachery, stole the show!!! He was such a sweetheart and all he wanted was for his mother to find love again and be happy. I love the dynamic between Quade and Zachery. Quade never tried to be Zachary’s parent/father. He really cared about the little boy and wanted to truly just be his friend and have the little boy look up to him no matter if he ended up with his mother or not.
All in all, the book was good. I wish the book didn’t drag out the sextual tension between the main characters. I feel like the book could easily be 4+ stars if they characters could explore their adult relationship more and grow to be a family.

Tropes:
- Second Chance
- Small Town Romance
- Single Parent
- Childhood Lovers/Friends – Enemies – Friends – Lovers

This book shows why this author is one of my favorites. I always feel i'm going to get such a great read that will tug on my emotional heartstrings, and this book is no exception. It was such a great second chance romance. Not only was it such a well written book, but there were also things in it that was new to me and was such a learning experience. Add to the fact the young son that took me out several times with some of the things that were said, made this such an enjoyable small-town romance, and I can't wait to read the next book in the story.

I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

"Something So Sweet" by Joy Avery

My Assessment:

"Something So Sweet" was just that... an incredible story of how two people who were once lovers
were able to get a second chance at love. This story was taken from a small town, Honey Hill, North Carolina, in which the mayor Lunden Pierce was the heroine, and the hero Quade Cannon had inherited an estate from his aunt [Ms. Shugga Hawthorne] who had passed away. Quade had in his mind that he would come to town and sell the property that he had inherited and move on with his life. Still, things will happen that put a stop to his plan...being 'his childhood sweetheart Lunden, who was now mayor and wouldn't give up without a fight, all because she knew the importance of Honey Hill's historical landmarks such as this coveted historic Inn was to the town.

The characters were all well-developed, giving the reader quite an intriguing read, and let's not leave out Lunden's delighted six-year-old son Zachary. He had befriended Quade...loving the connection these two had with each other. What will happen as Lunden and Quade start falling for each other again as steamy chemistry rises between the two? Will these two be able to 'deal with their relationship, business relationship and come to grips with their past relationships?' What did 1 - 4 -3 mean between Lunden and Quade? To find out all of these answers to these questions and more, you will have to pick up "Something So Sweet" to see how well this author brings it all out to the reader.

Be ready for a fun second chance romantic read of a town full of nosy townsfolk, gossipers, emotions, drama, and laughter that will keep your attention with all of the banterings in the read.

I loved the ending...quote... "We fall in love by chance. We stay in love by choice. I choose you to love, Lunden. I choose you." – Quade Cannon.

This small town romance has Quade Cannon returning to Honey Hill to officially inherit his recently passed aunt's inn. He then crosses paths with Lunden Pierce, the mayor of the town and an old flame. The two get involved as Lunden attempts to convince him not to sell the inn and Quade tries not to upend his set life plans when he starts falling in love with the town and with Lunden herself.

I'm not sure whether I hit a small town romance burnout or this book didn't quite give what needed to be given.

Now the book isn't bad at all. It was actually a pretty easy read with a beginning that had it's grip on me.

That grip, unfortunately, lost it's hold.

My main problem with this book has to be the pacing. A lot of parts felt like they dragged on especially since they seem to have hinged on a very surface level attraction between the hero and heroine which failed to transform into a deeper connection. I kept waiting for that moment when I would start having butterflies with the slightest of their interactions, but to no avail. And then, right at the very end, a major conflict suddenly comes out of left field. To say that I got frustrated with an abrupt conflict coupled with an even more abrupt resolution would be an understatement.

I'm not a big fan of saying a book is an "ok read", but this book is exactly that. Still, I am grateful to have read an ARC copy of this. I am also still interested in the next book about the heroine's best friend which apparently plays on the mutual pining, friend to lovers trope.

Many thanks to NetGalley for graciously providing a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

🔖103 Chapter 10 - Not much has changed.
🔖181 Chapter 18 - Better! So this is a slow-burn romance.

This took a while to heat up (not in a sexual way) but it was worth the wait by the end. I will be reading the rest of the series but not back to back.

Talented writer and storyteller, Joy Avery, introduces readers to a new series to start this new year. Honey Hill, North Carolina is the setting for this sweet story that presents a compelling look at the citizens of a small town. Ms Avery starts this series highlighting the dedicated Mayor of Honey Hill, Lunden Pierce, and Quade Cannon, who returns to Honey Hill after he inherits the coveted Inn on Main from Ms Shugga, his aunt and an icon of the little town. The Inn is at the heart and soul of this story as Lunden and Quade vie over the possession of the inn. Also at stake is their personal relationship that is on shaky ground.

Lunden and Quade have a lot to deal with as they struggle with their personal relationship, their business relationship and coming to grips with their past relationships. I enjoyed taking the journey with them as they eventually succumbed to the chemistry that everybody, including Zachary, Lunden’s son, could sense when they were together. Those love scenes snapped, crackled and popped! The couples’ HEA is so sweet and satisfying.

I enjoyed SOMETHING SO SWEET, and I recommend it for your reading pleasure. It’s the first book of a new series, so I strongly suggest you grab a copy and become acquainted with the denizens of Honey Hill. You can thank me later.
