Can Ember uncover the kitten agenda of a cold blooded killer…while proving she’s Cop Notch?
Welcome back to the witching world of Ember McNair-Jamison, small town Louisiana’s favorite tavern owner/sheriff’s deputy/witch. Ember and her motley crew of friends, foes, and frenemies certainly make life interesting in Cauchemar, even without the occasional big city murder.
Ember’s deputy status is challenged when she must complete training at the rigorous, exacting Cauchemar Police Academy. But she’s not going alone. Vampires, Mummies, shape shifters, and of course Kali the feline familiar will be learning how to protect and serve Louisana right along side Ember—with predictably hilarious results.
Of course, Ember can’t go long without being embroiled in a murder case, and this one is a real doozy. The crime scene went up in flames, the body has been entombed in concrete for ten years, and she can’t swing a very much alive, stark raving angry cat without hitting a suspect.
Worse, B.L.C. Bubb has demanded she solve a wickedly complex puzzle—and the clock’s ticking.
Can Ember juggle training, her marriage, the murder investigation, and suffer the acerbic wit of Kali long enough to save the day? You know what they say…
Ember has to go to police academy if she wants to stay a deputy. It’s definitely not easy and her instructor is a mean, mean guy. It was great that she had friends that also had signed up for the training. Things were getting interesting when a body was found in a wall. So many suspects, this dead guy was a bigger mean instructor than the one Ember had. I really like the characters in this series. The stories are great and the mysteries are fun to try and solve. Just wish they didn’t end with a cliffhanger.

Menacing Paws is a light hearted cozy mystery and book 15 in this series. It can be read as a stand-alone as there is an introduction by Kali, the talking cat, with a quick catch up on past events. I do however recommend that you read other books in this series as there is an ongoing storyline. There are regular characters Ember, Kali and Cedric along with familiar characters from previous books, a mysterious cube puzzle to solve, a nightmare instructor and a body. There is also a cliffhanger as always to lead into the next book.
Ember is told that if she is to remain a deputy she has to attend Police Academy. It turns out that she and Kali are not the only ones as several of her friends are attending too. They are a ragtag bunch to say the least.
This is a quick read with some quirky characters, some great, some that are a bit of a cliche like Vlad the vampire, and some just odd. I absolutely adore Kali, she is definitely a cat with personality and a very high opinion of herself.
Fans of this series will love this book, anyone new to the series might find it a little odd to begin with as it is not the ideal book to start with.

Entertaining action packed supernatural cozy mystery series
This is an exciting and extraordinary supernatural cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and a unique and entertaining storyline. Amber is a witch from a small town in Louisiana. For years she owned and ran a small pub in the town she lived in. The town has other witches shifters a random vampire a number of ghosts fairies and other supernatural beings living there as well as many humans. For the most part humans do not see the magic. Amber got married to the local sheriff that she had known since she was a kid. She resisted it for a while but was always interacting with him because she has a knack for solving mysteries murders and crimes. Eventually she was deputized and became a deputy sheriff and her sister began running her pub for her. Then a demon got involved and all kinds of problems began. Read on it and find out all the twisted turns in mysteries that happened in this little corner of the World.
I enjoyed this cozy mystery story with all of the characters. The two main characters were Ember McNair- Jamison and her cat named Kali.
Ember is a witch and a tavern owner that some times work as a sheriff's deputy solving mystery. When the head police chief comes to town and see that some of the deputies need some training. He sends her plus her cat and some others to the Cauchemar Police Academy for training. But when they find a body she decides to find out who done it.
I had fun trying to guess who might have murdered the person that they found in the wall. There were quite a bit of laughter through out the story. This story does have a cliffhanger but the author does solve the mystery before it end.
I received a complimentary copy via Booksprout. This is my honest unbiased opinion.
Ember is sent to the academy for training in her sheriff deputy roll. She also has Kali, her cat, and the other paranormals causing situations she is not ready for. A puzzle to figure out as well as another murder with really odd details. Love this group and the characters involved. Really hooks you from the start and it keeps you on the edge all the way through. Can not wait to read more of this group. Well done.

This book is part of a series and I recomend reading them. That being said it can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed this read as it had lots of mystery and action, you get left wondering who until the last minute. The ending left me wanting to read the next book to find out what happens in the characters lives. A very well put together plot, and interesting characters.

Ember, Kali, and Cedric are back again with Ember going to the academy to become a police officer. A lot of her friends tag along on this adventure to become police. With another murder to solve.
Great fun to read. A very fast read too.
The mystery was fun, lots of twisted humor, and just an enjoyable read.
To keep her deputy status Ember had to go to the police academy but also most of the people from her town went too. Lieutenant Bailey was a jerk to her group, he kept telling her that the only reason she got the job was her husband the sheriff. They found a body in a wall so Ember did her investigation and figured out who it was and I suspected that person too! Great book!
With the help of her familiar kitten, Kali, and her sheriff husband, Ember questions all the suspects and finds out who killed the cop. Can't wait for the next book to read what happens when Kali tells her that she has been asleep for a very long time.
