I seduced her to close the deal. Now I refuse to ever let her go.

I’m Sebastian Shaw—CFO, pragmatist, and dealmaker. The only thing I’ve ever mismanaged is love, but a decade in business has proven I can successfully negotiate with anyone…except the irrationally stubborn O’Neills. After their patriarch’s sudden retirement, I find myself sparring long-distance over a make-or-break merger with his youngest daughter, Sloan. She’s a ball-busting piece of work. Thankfully, I have skills, an hourglass-shaped stranger I recently met to relieve my stress, and a killer plan to take down my rival.

Then I realize the gorgeous distraction in my bed is Sloan. Worse, I’m falling for her.

Suddenly, everything from my objectives to my morals are cloudy. Stay loyal to my best friend and boss to get this critical deal done at any cost…or give my heart another chance? But the more time I spend with Sloan O’Neill, the more I realize she’s sharp, determined, funny, and kind of perfect for me. She has no idea how far I’ll go to mend this rift and make her mine—but she’s about to find out.

An interested love story between Sebastian and Sloan where they keep switching between lovers and enemies. Both characters have two sides, business side and emotional side.

Sebastian is a ruthless businessman but when it comes to Sloan he gave everything because he found his true love. Sloan om the other side is smart woman working for her father firm and trying to get the attention from her father who was ignoring her all the time. When the interests intersect between Sebastian and Sloan, a war started between them. Even with the complicated relationship between them, they finally found out the way to be together. I like the happy ending of this story which express really the true LOVE.

Here Come the Feels

This isn't a typical romance and I'm good with that. Better than good, actually. Except for the final chapter, it's told from Sebastian's POV. He's smart and cocky with a competitive streak a mile wide, ripped abs and a job he loves. And it takes all of his wiles and some to get anywhere close to winning a woman like Sloan.

She is loyal, determined, and has daddy issues bigger than the state of Texas. I LOVE how she sideswipes Bas on multiple occasions. It completely throws him for a loop and keeps things interesting. 🌋🌪🔥

“You’re in love with her?”
“I’m not a hundred-percent sure…but ninety-nine-point-nine? Yeah.”
“Oh, fuck…”

“I know you’re not thrilled. I’m not, either. It’s unexpected, and I feel blindsided." --Sebastian Shaw and Evan Cook

While the romance between Sebastian and Sloan is an absolute riot, - in an occasionally exasperating, s/he did what!?, oh my, did that really happen kinda way - it's the bromance with Bas and Evan that had me crying like a baby. These best friends and colleagues really lay it all on the line. It made me want to hug them both. 😪💜🤗

Sebastian Shaw is what most would consider ruthless when it comes to business but when he meets Sloan O’Neill things suddenly change for him. Sloan and Sebastian are very similar in putting their careers first but they have very different work ethics.

Have you read MORE THAN CRAVE YOU? Well if you have, you know Evan Cook, Sebastian's boss and best friend. Sebastian and Evan's bromance is prevalent in this story and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Sloan's backstory is one that will pull at your heartstrings... I know it did mine. There is a valid reason for Sloan to be weary of men, but watching Sebastian gain her trust was a wonderful thing.

I loved not only the enemies-to-lovers aspect to this story but the whole corporate espionage part of it as well. It was fun to watch Sebastian in a role we normally don't get to see him in. All's fair in love and business...right? LOL

If you enjoy Steamy Contemporary Romances, Office Romances, or Enemies to Lovers Romances I would recommend this book to you.

Happy Reading!!!

"I'm fucked. Absolutely, utterly fucked. She's supposed to be a job. At the very least, I need to figure out who her spy is. All I can think about right now is getting her out of that dress, into my bed, and never letting her go."

That's the theme here people. It is cut throat business, CFO corporate take over, secrecy, lies, a rich alpha man, and a feisty, smart-as-hell red head who will battle it out between business and love.

Sloan is awesome. She has demons from her past and detachment from her family, but her fight isn't gone. She's put her personal life on hold in order to make it to the top of the business ladder and maybe catch the eye of her father.

"And people wonder why I'm not attached. I always thought it was because I found beings with a penis to be needy, self-absorbed wastes of my time. But maybe I just don't understand them as well as I should."

Sebastian has his own issues. He's not sure he'll ever be over Becca and how she tied him to Evan. But he can't tear himself away from Sloan.

"Kissing her is like diving into honeyed quicksand, sweet and inexorable."

There is tension, angst, fighting, fire, and heart all wrapped up in the gang from Maui and the office in Texas. Sparks surely fly.

More Than Hate You (More Than Words #7) by Shayla Black. This is Sebastian and Sloan's story. Business deals, betrayals, steamy passion, angst makes this a swoon-worthy Shayla Black read!! Sloan is undervalued at her company and works 3xs as hard to be recognized. Sebastian is determined to nix the deal between the companies but soon the lines are blurred. Sebastian and Sloan make great book! Will their business keep the personal away or will love win ? Awesome slowburn romance that's going to be one of the hottest reads of the rest of the year.

Shayla Black does not disappoint! Her writing is always witty and it's so easy to get lost in the story. I like that it was not predictable, and couple of story lines caught me off guard. This book had a scummy step-brother, heartbreak, strong female main character, and some pretty steamy pages (fanning myself!), ending in a HEA.

At one point, I was so mad at Sebastian. I yelled at him and called him an a$$hole. But in the end, I was rooting for him to get his HEA!

I was sucked in right from the first chapter! I didn't want to put it down! I ended up reading this in 2 days. That never happens to me.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. This book is a standalone.

A hero you'll love to hate (even though it will be short lived) and a heroine that will have you rooting for her every step of the way make More Than Hate You a must read. Shayla Black works her magic once again and gives you a story you won't want to put down. Sebastian Shaw is a scoundrel, an opportunist, brilliant and a ruthless businessman. He doesn't mind getting his hands a little dirty if it gives him a winning outcome. Sloan O'Neill is intelligent, competitive, beautiful and a fierce businesswoman. Falling for the "enemy" was not in Bas's game plan but he did. Finding out she's being played is not something she will take lying down but she's fallen for him and walking away may not be an option.

The worst thing that can happen to CEO and deal maker Sebastian is to lose sight of the prize, but that is exactly what happens when the only in he can find with company he is trying to squash just happens to be a sexy red head that can twist him in knots. But Sloan has he own hurdles to overcome that can make or break the company as a whole. Who will come out the winner? And will the sparks that they both feel be thrown to the wolves when secrets are revealed? All I can say is Shayla Black's writing is like a fine wine....It only gets better and better with age. Top notch characters, a storyline that is filled with twists and turns, more steam than a sauna and an ending that tugs on the heart strings. Perfect in every single way. This is another book in the Reed Family Reckoning series that should not be missed.

In the 7th book in the Reed Family Reckoning series, we get Sebastian and Sloan's story! Ya'll , this story blew me away! I loved everything about it. Both of them are very driven in their lives. I love that Sloan can hold her own up against the big boys but you can see right away that the chemistry between these two is off the charts!! I think that Sloan is one of my favorite characters in this series now. Ms. Black is an extraordinary author and it shows in her writing. The attention to details and events are amazing. This makes Ms. Black one of my favorite authors. Will these two get their HEA? Or will Sebastian mess it up? Be sure to check it out!!

M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Sebastian is a very smart, almost ruthless businessman. He knows that his company has amazing capabilities and is tasked with sneaking the contract out from under their competition. When he sees his competition, all bets are off. The company is going belly up and his competitors' boss isn't really trying to get the contract because he's too busy doing other things in the office.

Sloan knows that she's worked her entire life for recognition from someone who doesn't want to give it. She knows that she is the only person who is capable of running the company, but nobody will truly give her a chance. When she's tasked with figuring out the finances of the company with the help of an outside consultant, she connects much more than on a business level.

After Sebastian's con is discovered, he has to work double time to figure out how to salvage his job, salvage his relationship and salvage the deal. Sloan and Sebastian have to navigate the cutthroat business, their own feelings and the business world that is constantly battling.

Watching these two figure out their work life and love life is a fun rollercoaster. You'll love to hate Sebastian, but also love to love their relationship. Showing love is so much more difficult than talking about love. You'll root for them and not be disappointed in this story. Can't wait for more.

Sloan and Sebastian are cut from the same cloth, smart, ambitious and want the same things, they just go about it differently. Bas is cut throat, handles the dirty work and Sloan plays by the rules and works just as hard, but when these two meet the chemistry is off the charts and something that shouldn’t happen. Bas is the enemy and underhanded, and they both have demons that keep creeping up.

The thing is what starts out as business turns out to be more than either of them bargained for and when you find the one, you will do anything you can to prove your love. Can Bas prove Sloan wasn’t a game and what they have is real? Awesome read and my first book by this author. I found this book on BookSprout.

This may be my favorite book in the series yet! I absolutely love everything about this book! From page one to the very end I was there for it! I loved the animosity and the push and pull and just the fun of the entire storyline. Shayla blew it out of the water with the entire book. The tension between these two is palpable! And I love that she took it out of Hawaii and brought it to Texas. A little home town love!

The way Sebastian slowly falls for Sloan in this book made me really liked how he views her soft side and not just her business personality. I loved Sloan’s feistiness and how she completes Sebastian as they both challenge each other well in and out of business.

What a fantastic book. Sebastian has always been loyal to his best friend Evan, but he’s falling for Sloan. Will he have to betray one of them? I didn’t expect to cry so hard. Loved feeling so emotional. This book is worth re reading. Really loved the surprised ending and they get a very happy ever after. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I highly recommend this book.

Omg I loved every minute of this book. The sass from Sloan! She gives everything right back to Sebastian. This book is still based in the Reed family universe, and even though Sebastian isn’t an actual Reed, all our favourites grace us with an appearance. He’s basically extended family.

Sebastian works for Evan with his tech company. When they find out their biggest competitor is going for the same contract as them, Sebastian’s job is to find a way to take out the competition. This task is proven even harder when the current CEO of the company doesn’t care about it at all and brushes Sebastian off. He then has to go on a hunt for someone who will help him. This is how he meets Sloan. Sloan is one of the best in the company and clearly is not being given the recognition she deserves. Sebastian feels a little bad being devious without her knowing, but he has a job to do. The more he tries to find out about the competition to take them out, the more he learns of Sloan herself and can’t help harbour feelings for this woman he’s never even met.

As Sebastian gets deeper with his infiltration, he realizes that he wants more than just success with his job. He wants a loan for himself as well. Little does he know things will not be going as he planned and he will hit roadblocks every step of the way. Can he navigate both keeping his job commitments and trying to win over the first girl who pushes him and challenges him?

This one was full of great banter between these characters. There are great spicy scenes, and the plot twists that come out of nowhere really shocked and excited me.
This might be one of the first books that I would agree could be read as a standalone without reading the rest of the series, however, this series is so good why would you want to skip any books? 😉

It’s a raw and cutthroat business until love slaps you in the face.

Sebastian is a man who can spot an opportunity a mile away and do everything he can to capitalize on it and make it his. He’s a brilliant businessman even if he is ruthless and what he does. When Sebastian is tasked with acquiring a contract out from underneath the competition, he views it as normal every day work. Yet once Sebastian gets his eyes on the competition The name of the game has changed and Sebastian is on the verge of winning everything and and more than he could have ever dreamed of or flat out busting.

Sloane is a woman who knows her strengths and weaknesses. She’s clever and cunning yet plays by the rules. She’s capable of doing anything yet isn’t recognized the way she should be. She’s just as fierce as anyone else in the business world yet works three times as hard. When she discovers the cutthroat game that Sebastian is playing it takes her no time to put him in his place. Little did she realize she was getting a bit more than she bargained for.

More Than Hate You it’s not your typical romance story. Two people that are in a ruthless cutthroat business. One who will do anything and the other who plays by the rules. They are more alike than dislike and can make each other's blood boil. Sebastian and Sloan create so many feelings for each other. Whether it be passionate like or passionate dislike the feelings are strong and almost overwhelming. The aggressive world they play in has a lot of distrust, betrayal and proving your loyalty. Somehow, someway they manage to mix business and pleasure and find something very rewarding. Is it easy, no. But the good things never are. Shayla Black proves that even in the most cutthroat world love can prevail.

4.25 Stars!!

I thought this was going to be really predictable. I really did not have high hopes for it in the beginning but this book does not follow the norm. About the time you think you know how it will play out then it takes a turn….a turn just far enough to throw you off.

We met Sebastian in book 4 since he is Evan’s CFO and best friend. Bas is a merciless business man and his determination, intelligence and aggressive ways is why Evan lets him handle the dirty work. When Bas is getting nowhere on obtaining a contract with a new company he decides to check out the rival company, Reservoir Inc., and while posing as a consultant and gathering info he is directed to Sloan.

Sloan O’Neill is Bruce Rawson’s dirty little secret. Bruce is the owner of Reservoir and gave his illegitimate daughter a job but wants no one to know who she really is. He is very ill and has 3 sons that he was hoping would run the company but two of them don’t want to and the only one willing to do it is too much of a screw up and is just running the company in the ground. Sloan is smart, capable and very loyal to the company even though she probably shouldn’t be. When Bas needs the inside information Sloan is the only one who has the correct info.

There is a serious attraction with these two characters but Bas keeping the truth from Sloan about who he is will eventually catch up with him.

I loved how Bas’s feelings developed for Sloan and how strong they were. I could really feel it even though it seemed fast. Maybe because in the very beginning I wasn’t feeling it but then Bam it was all consuming.

Very surprising book for me and I liked it!!!

FINAL DECISION: I liked the interactions between the characters, but the plot just didn't work for me. Too much insta-love, and I needed more of this story to give it a higher rating.

THE STORY: Sebastian Shaw takes business very seriously and is determined to take care of a deal for his boss -- even if it requires him impersonating a friend to find out what is going on with the O'Neill business. When he discovers a business in turmoil, he also finds Sloan, the youngest daughter, who is earnest and trying to keep things together. As Sebastian begins to fall for Sloan, things become complicated.

OPINION: There were parts of this book that I really loved. When Sloan and Bas are on the page together, their chemistry crackles with intensity. I even really liked that she is furious at him and twists him into knots at every turn. What I didn't like was how the plot was integrated into the story. The couple spends way too much time apart. The crisis moment is too abrupt, and the resolution is even more "magic fix." I wanted to like this one because the characters were great and had such great potential, but the plot was too jerky, and the happy ending was not earned in any way.

WORTH MENTIONING: This book contains deception and lying, which really turned me off for the first part of this book, but then the book takes a turn.

CONNECTED BOOKS: MORE THAN HATE YOU is the seventh book in the Reed Family Reckoning/More Than Words series. This book can be read as a standalone, although characters from the series appear here.

STAR RATING: I give this book 3 stars.

WOW! Shayla you have out done yourself in More Than Hate You. When you bring two cutthroat, ambitious, relentless, intelligent, and competitive individuals together vying for same thing you're sure to get an explosion of sparks and fireworks. Sebastian and his best friend Evan works together at Stratus Storage Solutions. He's the CFO for the company and the man who Evan ask to do all dirty unscrupulous works. Evan never ask Sebastian how dirty a job is because he wants plausible deniability. He gas zero idea of the underhanded things that Bas does in saving Stratus.
Evan is having problem landing an account his talk with Michael Astor at Wynam have stalled. Wynam is one of the biggest computer resellers businesses abroad. Bruce Rawson of Reservoir, Inc. a rival company whispering in his ears. It is up to Sebastian to figure a way Reservoir Inc. fade into the background pronto so Wynam focus on Stratus. Sloan O'Neill is the illegitimate daughter of Bruce Rawson and the child that have any sense at the rival company. Sebastian assume a different identity to gain information on Reservoir Inc. This story had so much drama, betrayal, tension, intrigue, and explosive passion. More Than Hate You draws you in from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages. It was riveted, intense and fascinating. Brilliantly written with exceptional characters and great storyline.

So it has been a while since I picked up a Reed Family book, so I'll admit, it took me a while to remember Evan and Nia as previous characters from 'More Than Crave You' - actually, it was the Nia's name which made me make the connection (sorry Evan).

As usual, Shayla has done it again. I love all of Shayla's stories, some more than others I'll admit, but to be honest, I'm super picky when it comes to giving out stars. 3 out of 5 stars is a solid rating for me and is what I give most of my books I review (though a few of Shayla's have gotten 4 out of 5 stars from me). I always feel like I should preface this - I give very few 4 and 5 stars to any books - it's just who I am, so no offense meant.

Bas and Evan are out to try and get inside information on their competitors, and Bas goes so far as taking the place of a consultant hired to help their competitor. Enemies butting heads, can we say? lol But what I love is the sassiness of Sloan and how she doesn't back down - no spoilers, but I love how she plots her own way to save the rival company :) Loved that scene Shayla - didn't see it coming.

Funny and sad parts - both hero and heroine have rough and lonely pasts which of course, make them perfect for each other - whenever they figure that out! ;) I even think I could have done with some more back and forth bickering between the two characters because of how smart the bickering was written. Enjoyable and hot!

From the beginning, this story was focused on business deals, and undermining the enemy. Sebastian Shaw’s schemes bring him in contact with the competition, Sloan O’Neal. Sebastian is instantly smitten with Sloan and he finds himself drawn to her smarts and her sass. As I mentioned previously, much of the chemistry that develops between Sebastian and Sloan is done in the offices and boardrooms. The chemistry continued to build between the couple. Sloan soon finds herself between a rock and a hard space. I know that’s pretty vague, but I don’t want spoil the ending for someone else who hasn’t finished this book yet.

Both Sebastian and Sloan are hanging onto some pretty intense baggage, that seems to throw obstacles in their way. Fortunately this angst is short-lived and the couple soon find their HEA! The steam level for this book seemed pretty tame, but by no means detracts from the book. It was also fun to become reacquainted with all the couples from early books in this series. Enjoy this read, I know I did!!

This is part of the Reed Family Reckoning: Friends series. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series, and it read fine as a standalone. Sebastian (Bas) Shaw works with his best friend Evan Cook. As the CFO, Bas has done the dirty work in the business to provide CEO Evan with “plausible deniability” should the need arise. Bas, in his cutthroat way of working, befriends
Sloan O’Neill, the only person with any sense at a rival corporation. Gah! The antics of these two! It’s intense and hot, they’re friends, then mortal enemies. They’re both vulnerable in different ways, and such larger than life characters. I absolutely love it when the man falls first, and has to work for the woman-Bas has to overcome not just the obstacles of his own making, but her history as well. Bas is juggling a lot of balls at once—his friendship and job with Evan are potentially on the line—and he has some decisions to make to be worthy of Sloan. Such a great story, and now I want to catch up on the other books in the series.

This is book seven in The Reed Family Reckoning Series and it is Sebastian and Sloan's story and it is a must read. Sebastian and Sloan have so much chemistry that you can feel it sizzling of the pages of this book and I couldn't put it down as it kept you on the edge of your seat wondering what the outcome would be for them. The characters and storyline pulled you in right from the start and kept your attention right until the last one and you felt so many emotions while reading this book and it was so addictive. Sebastian and Sloan were so perfect for each other but with all the secrets will they ever get a chance of being together or will they crash and burn and tear them apart when everything is revealed only time will tell what the outcome will be. This is the first book that I have read by Shayla Black but definitely not the last as it was so well written and engaging and I definitely recommend you read this book and you will not be disappointed.

Sometimes two people have to fall apart to realize how much they need to fall back together...

Sebastian and Sloan are perfect for each other. But it takes them both quite some time before they realize it. Sebastian is a CFO working with his best friend. He is intelligent, savvy and loves what he does with a passion. He is dedicated to the job and is obsessed. So much so that there is no room for anything else, including relationships. He does not want to risk having his heart shattered again.

Sloan is feisty, sharp witted and whip smart. She finds herself toe to toe in a merger with a man who is a big thorn in her side, but he is so gorgeous it's just not fair. Their chemistry is hot and instantaneous, that neither of them anticipated. Sebastian finds himself in a position of being in denial towards his feelings for Sloan. He then drops the ball and in the process risks losing everything he has ever dreamt for. He needs to get his priorities in order to win the woman of his dreams back.

Book 7 in the Reed Family Reckoning Series does not feature members of the family at all but rather Sebastian, Evan's best friend and business partner, and Sloane, the woman he sets out to bedazzle in order to get company secrets. I loved how she turned the tables on him - first captivating him with her sharp wit, her personality and then, in a sizzling hot scene, quite literally as well. I'm not saying more, you'll have to read for yourself... What I did not like so much, is how the end was all about what Sloane wants, Sloane gets. Although, even though Sebastian was the one making all the concessions, he didn't seem to be too unhappy about them, so who am I to disagree? Entertaining, funny, with thoroughly unlikeable 'bad guys', some very hot scenes, visits with the Reed family, this is a book to read in one sitting!

More Than Hate You is all about business deals, rivals, and sexual tension as Sebastian and Sloan work out their differences both in and out of the office.
Sebastian Shaw is a very smart successful, yet ruthless business man. He is also player and now he is using his charms and business savvy to manipulate a business deal and he is doing it to his sassy, smart business rival, Sloan. She isn’t falling for all his games but she is definitely falling for the man even if she doesn’t want to admit it.
Sebastian has never met anyone like Sloan and he definitely has his work cut out for himself to win her trust and prove he really does care about her.
It took me a bit to warm up to Sebastian. I didn’t like his lies and deception but in the end he redeemed himself to me. Sloan on the other hand was easy to like and want to root for. She hasn’t had it easy working for her fathers company and I was in her corner wanting for her to finally find success and happiness.

Part of me liked this one and part of me didn't. What I didn't like was how mercenary Sebastian was in going after the other company and then Sloan once he learned of her. Even when Sloan started to intrigue him, Sebastian still was ruthless in what he wanted business wise and it didn't seem like he cared who got hurt in the meantime. Even later when things were coming to a head, he really pushed Sloan, the whole marriage thing seemed like too much, even if we knew he really liked/loved her. I kinda liked it when Sloan out maneuvered Sebastian and firmly put him in his place, even as I hated how much both of them were hurting. I think maybe why Sebastian's actions bothered me so much was that I liked him and Sloan together. He really saw her worth and knew she could handle anything. In the end, things worked out in a good way. Both Sebastian and Sloan know they were the choice, not the I have to do this.
