With the books of James and Peter we are not only getting a look at earliest Christianity but we are getting that look from two people who were closest to Jesus. James, of course, was the half-brother of Jesus and leader of the Jerusalem church, while Peter was the church’s founding disciple. Both books have a plain, shocking, no-nonsense view of reality and truth. Each one of these books will leave us stunned and awakened to new truths and understandings of the Bible. The author of these commentaries spent many years in the pastorate. After that he lived and ministered in Israel for sixteen years. Thus, these books have an “Israel flavor” about them. The author has gathered vast amounts of quotes and information from many of the best sources, ancient and modern. Hopefully, the reader will not have to plow through other resources in order to gain material for study, teaching, preaching or writing.
