Is it time to “Energise”?

In his book “Energise – make the most of every day”, Simon Alexander Ong talks about his own journey.

From a job where he didn’t like the culture and were he faced burn out. He then to took the scary step of quitting, to work for himself

Simon, wanted to work on his own terms and live the life that he wanted

The book isn’t about quitting, but it does take you through the tools and techniques that Simon uses in his day-to-day life as well as teaches clients to get the energy back in your life

The book starts by getting you to take back your life and get in control, “awaken your power” Simon calls it and how to “focus on what matters”. Then the book moves to “rewiring your energetic state”, which is about breaking free of energetic blocks. Then Simon talks about “protecting your personal energy”, which is about managing your energy and not your time

It's certainly a great book if you are looking to take back control of your life and energy or feel that you are reaching or have reached burn-out

As motivation books go, this one's alright. Ong doesn't have anything new to say, but he has an engaging voice and presents the standard ideas of self-empowerment in an engaging, lucid way.

BUT

He has an unfortunate tendency to dip into the language of pseudoscience - "positive energy vibrations" and all that twaddle - which is maddening because it's completely unnecessary to the points he's making.

For the record: Energy in the scientific sense, including "positive and negative charges" and "resonating wavelengths" have nothing nothing NOTHING to do with your emotional state or your subjective experience of reality, and it drives me bonkers when these self-help gurus co-opt the language of hard-working physicists to give their "wisdom" the veneer of scientific backing.

Ong isn't a crackpot, but his use of language is crackpot-adjacent, and I feel it does his writing a disservice.

What's I've learned

1. Exercise more in general but if possible specifically outside

2. Eat whole foods, balanced meats, fruits, and vegetables

3. Find someone you wish to emulate then study them

This book did not fix my life, but that is probably more of a remark on my shortcomings. He does seem like a very sweet man.

Audio book

Felt like he stole a lot of other folks' ideas and repackaged it as "energy" whilst trying to sell his life coaching business

I have read a lot of the books that Energize pulls from. My favorite ideas was:

Therapy for free:

1. Choose the age or period of your younger self that you would want to write to-this could be you as a child, teenager or young adult. Whoever you feel could benefit most from reading this.

2. Take time to visualize this younger you in your mind, feeling what he or she is currently going through-the challenges, hopes and emotions.

3. Referring to your younger self as 'you', be as honest as you can when writing this letter. Write down whatever comes to mind: words of wisdom, of comfort, of hope or kindness.

4. Once you've finished, look at yourself in the mirror, see that younger self staring back at you, and read out what you have written slowly and purposely to him or her. (Or them)

5. After a few days, go through your letter with fresh eyes, noticing what you notice.

'And once the storm is over, you won't remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won't even be sure whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in. That's what this storm's all about'

"For High Achievers Who Want to Feel Alive Again"

As someone who spends a lot of time helping entrepreneurs and leaders build meaningful relationships, I know firsthand that you can’t pour into others when your own energy is depleted. Energize by Simon Alexander Ong is a powerful reminder that how we manage our energy directly shapes the quality of our work, relationships, and impact.

What I love most about this book is how practical and human it feels. Simon doesn’t just talk about productivity or time management—he teaches energy management. His insights on working with your natural rhythms, setting boundaries, and learning when to rest versus when to rise are life-changing.

I especially appreciated his point about not treating your health like a side hustle. Too many high achievers fall into that trap (myself included), and Simon’s approach helps you realign your ambition with your well-being.

Energize is full of inspiring stories, reflective prompts, and actionable guidance that will leave you feeling both grounded and uplifted. If you want to show up with more vitality, clarity, and joy—in your business and your life—this book is a must-read.

Energize is a book that enhances your knowledge with getting fuel with energy in what you do - such as the nutrition that you put in your body - the day to day activities that will impact your energy levels - but for me I think the author did not take into account that sometimes when there is an energy overwhelmed it becomes hyper-active.

I couldn't finish the book as I felt that it was rather straight forward
that it acts as a guide
rather than having new information on the author's perspective to his energy building
but I appreciate his candid stories before advising his readers on the thinking questions
and visualisation
that will draw the reader in
in being centred to what matters most.

But I wouldn't recommend this book,
I think simon bite size information on his podcast
helps me to absorb information better than his book.

This book was a gift from the author himself, who I was lucky enough to meet at an event. I remember holding it for the first time, reading the title, and telling Simon, “This is exactly what I need right now.”

And I wasn’t wrong. The book is brilliant. Honestly, it’s one of those reads everyone should dive into at least once in their life, the sooner the better. It’s the kind of book you finish but never really let go of, because you know you’ll keep coming back to it.

Huge thanks to Simon.

Ong guides us through his own humbling life challenges, and shares his actionable wisdom. I found this book hard-to-put-down as his experiences resonate with my own. I found him easy to relate to, and there is not a single chapter with fluff. He presents in a down-to-earth, awakened and intelligent way.
A brilliant and thought-provoking book to help navigate us in chaotic times.
I gained so much clarity and insight from the first page. An absolute gem of a book.

A nice book to read. Reminds you about important things we tend to forget: caring about your health, organizing your finances, expressing gratitude, setting goals etc. Gives some useful tips and inspiring examples.
But what really I didn’t like - the author was all the time setting as an example people like Kobe Bryant, Steve Jobs and Brice Lee. As if everyone of us must become world famous or change this world, otherwise your life sucks.

“Energize” touches upon many facets of our lives – from our physical health, our mindset, decision making on our finances and how to navigate through life in general.
I deeply resonate with its wisdom. Whenever life weighs me down and I find myself at a low point, simply picking it up and reread it again brings me warmth and healing from within. 🌱
If you find yourself in that difficult chapter of life ,this book has the power to “Energize” you in ways you never thought possible.

I loved reading this book. I found it accessible and the concepts simple (though not necessarily easy to implement). I have already taken action from reading this book. I think my biggest takeaway was that in order to have an extraordinary life you have to be willing to do things that others do not.

This is a Fabulous book that includes very important ways of protecting your energy, how to live a life of meaning, how to focus on what matters most and so much more. While much of the book was filled with stories of people Simon's met along the way and taught him valuable things, the ending of the book resonated with me the most. I definitely recommend it.

The ideas in this book are not really that mind-blowing. They sure teach you about how to manage your energy and whatnot but I felt like the advice was a bit too common. However, it wasn't a bad read and would not take you much time to finish the whole book.

In his book Energize, Simon seamlessly weaves through his own life story and obstacles to help us understand how the way we choose to react energy-wise plays a significant role in how we cope with life’s challenges.

Throughout the book, Simon provides pragmatic advice, reflections, and motivational strategies, that are easy-to-implement.

Using his logical explanations and philosophical approach, you will learn how to monitor and track your energy just as you manage your time. One of my favourite quotes is: “When you’re time rich but energy poor, it’s hard to do anything productive.”

In Simon’s words: "Energy is contagious" and this book is so full of positive energy that I've gifted Energize to 5 people. Definitely one of the best self-help and motivational books I've read this year!

It will keep you energized!
