Wolves of Valhalla #1

The Viking Wolf

Rate this book
For as long as I can remember, I’ve known things I have no way of knowing—it’s almost like getting little whispers from the future, little hints about what’s going to happen...

When I receive an email from an unknown sender about a little town called Marshall Heights, I can’t seem to shake the feeling that I’m meant to move there.

Fast forward a few weeks and I find myself starting over in this postage-sized town. And when I happen to see him loading groceries into an old truck, I’m shocked speechless.

I’ve been in love with Torsten Black ever since he left me with no explanation eight years ago. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought of him. So, to see him here, now, in this Podunk town… it has to be fate.

But, Torsten isn’t as happily surprised to see me. Instead, he appears to be haunted by his past—a past full of secrets and lies. Torsten insists he’s not the same man he used to be.

He also insists that I’m not safe in Marshall Heights—something which becomes abundantly clear when Torsten’s brother, Skarde, a full-blown Viking warrior come from another realm, suddenly shows up in my apartment and tries to murder me.

Realizing I’m not the witch he thinks I am, Skarde releases me and then demands I join his cause—a cause I know and want nothing to do with.

Even if Skarde is just as gorgeous as his brother, he’s a loose cannon. Whereas Torsten is dark and brooding, Skarde is cocky and demanding. The two can’t stand each other and, at this point, I’m starting to agree with them both.

Regardless, now I’m not only involved in something I don’t understand, I’m in over my head.

In over my head = Viking wolf shifters, jealous and vengeful goddesses, and the start of the first of three winters which will doom mankind.

Learning I possess the blood of the Valkyrie (from Odin) as well as the blood of the witches (from Freya), I’m straddling the line between both pantheons of gods.

Stuck in the eye of the storm, I have no idea how to get out…

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

I LOVED this book. It did end on a cliffhanger though... I thought something crazy was about to happen and then it ended.... I am so sad I have to wait for the next book but because these authors are so awesome I know it will be worth it.

I love Norse mythology so this was a really fun book. It was well written and I really enjoyed the characters. I cannot wait to see where this one will go!

Fun book! Cannot wait for book 2! Please don't keep me waiting long!

I'll be honest the story could be there, but I couldn't make it through to finish it. The authors are in desperate need of a good editor. The text is full of extra adverbs and mistakes, for instance, “Why do I find that impossible to believe, Torsten?” I asked as he turned to me, no doubt surprised to hear me use his nickname, the name I’d always called him. “Torsten,” I corrected myself (p. 28). Am I missing something, or did she just call him his name twice? As a reader, this kind of thing bothers me.

Jovi Billings has been getting premonitions ever since she can remember. When she receives her one and only job offer, after applying to several in various locations, she knows Marshall Heights is where she needs to be. If only she knew why. After she settles in and begins her new job, she happens upon the one and only man she wants. Torsten Black, the man she fell in love with, and the man who up and left her in Las Vegas appears, much to Jovi’s surprise.

Torsten is not exactly happy to see Jovi in the small town of Marshall Heights. He fled to keep her safe. There are things about him Jovi would never understand. Things that should send her running the opposite direction. Things that she would never believe, even if he wanted to tell her.

Except, Jovi’s being in Marshall Heights isn’t just about Torsten. There are things about Jovi that will soon be revealed as she navigates her new town. Events quickly take a turn when Torsten’s brother, Skarde, appears in her apartment out of nowhere and threatens her life.

Jovi is a unique character with a passion for Torsten that made their chemistry believable and I rooted for them throughout the book. Jovi learns a lot about herself, Torsten, and Norse mythology. Her character is complex, and I enjoyed getting to know her. Torsten has so many secrets but he soon discovers keeping them from Jovi was not in either their best interest.

The complexity of the characters, intertwined destinies, and masterful plot kept me engaged in The Viking Wolf. The book is full of twists, turns, and gasp-out-loud moments. I enjoyed learning about Jovi, Torsten, Skarde, and the Norse gods and goddesses. I look forward to the next book in the series.

This book ends on a cliffhanger.

When Jovi decides to head to Marshall Heights for a new job . Things just seem to be different . When she sees the man that she has feelings for loading groceries . Torsten is happy to see her at all. He doesn't seem like the same man that he use to be . He is haunted by the past and is the shadow of what he was . When something happens and the truth comes out will Jovi come out of this alive and will her heart be intact .
This is a really well written story, I adore the characters , they are well written and complex . Jovi is a sweet woman who just wants to live her life . She has a spark about her and when push comes to shove she will defend herself . She is complex and sometimes she comes off as a scared rabbit but she has the heart of a warrior . Torsten is a man haunted by what has happened and what is going to happen. He is tall and sexy and wow you want to climb him like a spider monkey. There is more to him then meets the eye also, he is a shifter . Then we get to meet Skrade , now he is a Nordic god all tall sexy and oh so alpha . He is a warrior through and through. You love to hate him .
This story is the first in the series and I like the way the authors have set it up. The story has it all its paranormal and a good dose of Norse mythology . The characters are well written and complex . I sat down and read this book in an evening . I was hooked by the end of the first chapter . I totally thought it was a good read and I truly loved the characters. It is a fast fun read that will keep you entertained . I can't wait to see where the authors take the characters . So if you want a good summer read check it out . You will like it .

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/ 5

*FYI, there is a BIG cliffhanger on this book*

Sometimes a cliffhanger just really sneaks up on you. It’s like the Monday of plot devices.

This happened to me while reading this book.

The book is very intriguing. It’s a meld of a lot of different pieces of Norse mythology (I think) that comes through pretty strong, and with some fresh elements to what we’re used to.

Jovi has been called to a small town after ending her marriage and struggling to get by. She has the luck (or misfortune) of seeing Torsten there, who represents not only part of her past, but an old flame that hasn’t gone out. Torsten knows that he can’t be with Jovi for supernatural reasons, but he also wants her deeply. With the appearance of Skarde, Torsten’s brother, a whole host of secrets about Jovi are revealed, and their relationship status is even more heavily in question.

This book is definitely sexy, and I liked Torsten and Jovi (and kind of Skarde), but I have left with more questions than answers. I’ll eagerly await the next book!

Jovi has made a life change by moving to Marshall Heights. She could not stop thinking about the town after receiving an email about a job there. Jovi has a job working as a hair dresser. She is living in a tiny apartment. She is happy to free of her ex-husband and what he put her though.
Jovi is at work when sees a man that left her years ago and she never forgot. Jovi is thrown when she see Torsten. She decides to follow him to the bank. Jovi is thrown by him speaking to her when he sees her. Jovi can't deny her feelings are still there. She wants find out why he left and why.

This story has so many twist and turns that you will not know what is going to happen next with these tow characters. The characters Jovi and Torsten will keep you reading to find out what happens with the both of them. You will also be treated to the Vikings, gods, you will not want this book to end. You will be entralled by the story from being to end, recommend reading

Rain and Mallory are a great team! The characters, worlds and storylines they come up with are always over the top and incredible.

This story wasn't my favorite from these two but that's not saying it wasn't really good. I just didn't connect with the characters like I usually do.

Jovi and Torsten are both in for a crazy ride when secrets and people from the past pop up. The ground work has been laid and players are being put in place. Make sure you don't miss the beginning to this new series!

I listen to most of my books. This book was not the problem with the voice because it was an automatic voice. It just isn’t a full story. So I read this because I’m doing an A-to-Z reading challenge this month and I needed a V book. And when I found this book, it doesn’t show that it’s part of a series until I come here, but it is missing so much information that I’m just confused. Maybe their stories in front of this I just don’t get it.

This is the first book in this series and off to a great start. Jovi is an intriguing character with gifts she does not know about yet. Torsten is torn between his feelings for Jovi and need to keep her safe. There's a lot of mythical history that is yet to be revealed. I'm looking forward to learning more.

Fantastic but cliff hanger

I truly got immersed in this story. Interesting to say the least. Torsten sounds like a hunk.
I must say I hate cliff hanger endings and this has one. I don't know if I would have changed my mind in reading this had I known. I love J.R. Rain and H.P Mallory together they are superb.

I have no idea what the story was like - I bought the audio book only to have it read to me by what sounded like my GPS trying to bore me to death in it's monotone robotic "voice". It could have been reading the phone book and I wouldn't know the difference, it was awful. I couldn't even get through 5 mins!

This is going to be a great series. Rain and Mallory are a terrific team. Everything you need in an amazing story is in this book. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Jovi and Torsten. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story! I’m not super familiar with Norse mythology so it made the story extra interesting. The characters were well written although I hope we get more back story on them as some things were confusing. Overall good book, will read more in this series.

This was a well-written, entertaining book. It drew me in, was fast paced and held my interest. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is #1 in the Wolves of Valhalla series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Cliffhanger

I don’t care for this style of book. The story itself was pretty entertaining however this was more of a novella, a short story.
