אבני הלב

Rate this book

This small town/brother’s best friend/single momma romance was the sweetest! I’ve been wanting to read more by Amber Kelly and I’m so glad I picked this one up.

Dallas and Myer have known each other a long time, but always as friends. When Dallas was young she went a little wild and married the high school bad boy and had a baby. Her ex is now in jail and she’s been back home for a bit, and has calmed her ways. She has the most adorable little boy and is focused on him and making a life for them.

Myer helps run his family’s ranch after a football injury took him out of the game in college. He’s content where he’s at and he’s got it bad for Dallas. I loved watching Dallas realize this and how patient Myer was with her. Beau was the sweetest little boy and I adored his relationship with Myer.

Overall this book was a lot of fun and heartwarming. I can’t wait to continue on with this series and I’ll be doing so sooner rather than later.

Sweet | Small Town | Friends-to-Lovers Romance

It’s truly magical when you find a new author who writes stories that touch you deep in your heart. For me, one of those authors is Amber Kelly. I stumbled upon her first book in this series RUSTIC HEARTS last year when I was looking for new books in the kindle unlimited program. Seeing the cover for Rustic Hearts is what first caught my attention. Then I read the blurb, got chills, and decided this is a book I NEED to try. Let me tell you, I am so glad I did because this series is shaping up to be one of my favorite series of all time. There’s just something about sweet, small town romances that get me. Add to that second chances at love and true feelings from the heart and you have yourself a winner. Family ties are also at the forefront of these novels and it’s so beautiful to witness the power of these relationships- honestly, it’s inspirational! Ladies, if you haven’t had the pleasure of reading either of these books, I strongly recommend giving them a try. I’m telling you; I’ve been smiling ear to ear since I started and finished this one (same goes for Rustic Hearts). I love these books so much that I’m even going ahead and purchasing the paperbacks because I know a re-read is something I’ll be doing in the near future.

As I mentioned above, this is a small-town romance. I’d also consider it a friends-to-lovers and brothers best friend romance because the two have known each other their whole lives and the hero (Myer) is good friends with the heroines (Dallas) brother. Dallas also happens to be a single mom and best friend to Sophie who appears in the first book in the series. (Each book can stand alone).

So, what happens in the story? What makes this book so special that I recommend it to everyone? Well, there’s a romance of course, but it happens slowly for Dallas and Myer. You see Dallas has been burned in the past by her ex husband and has no intention of letting another man in to hurt her or her son. Myer though is a kind and patient man and while he’s been harboring feelings for Dallas for a long time and he understands her needs for something a little slower paced. When the two finally figure out their feelings there’s a teeny bit of drama that unfolds, but it shows the strength of both of them and leads them closer together. If you want to know what I mean, you’ll have to read it yourself!

What makes the book so special? The love. It feels organic and real. Amber Kelly knows how to write feelings and it’s hard NOT to think your falling in love too. It’s also the chemistry and bonds, the charm and sweetness, and the idea that two people so perfect for one another can find love despite hardships. Amber Kelly writes it to good that you practically feel as if you’re the characters themselves. That my friends (and really, so much more) is what makes this a diamond in the rough.

I like to offer high praise to authors when I enjoy their books and I am always honest when it comes to my reviews. You can clearly see my love of many novels though my blog but I’m telling you, this series really STANDS OUT. Pure perfection in every area. I hope many readers will give it a try.

IF YOU ENJOY THE FOLLOWING AUTHORS/SERIES YOU WILL LOVE THIS SERIES:

▶ Devney Perry’s Jamison Valley series (https://amzn.to/2Rp4SQ3) this is the closest series I can think of that is like these books. I recommend each and every one of them! The same goes for her Lark Cove series (https://amzn.to/2FUBXOl).

▶ Sharon Sala’s Blessings, Georgia series: Sweet, small town, beautiful! https://amzn.to/3702tSl I also recommend each of those books (all are top favorites).

▶ Kelly Elliot’s new Meet Me in Montana series: https://amzn.to/2TuUOrg (so good, I can’t wait for the next book to release! Right now, there is one).

I don’t want to put her fire out. I want to sit back and enjoy the burn.

Stone Hearts was exactly the sugary sweet, yet emotional, small town romance I needed. I’ve been on the struggle bus with reading so far this year and Dallas and Myer’s story definitely kicked me out of my funk. A chance at complete happiness for Dallas and her sweet little boy, and Myer finally getting the girl he’s been falling in love with. I love how their love is so clear to anyone who sees them, but not to Dallas. This is just a great and easy read. There is some angst, but it’s resolved quickly. This one made me emotional for so many reasons, but it made me smile for so many as well. So good, and if you haven’t visited Poplar Falls yet, I suggest you get on it.

Also, I am SO DANG excited for what’s next and for what could be even after that.

This is a cute little story. A small-town, single parent, friends-to-lovers romance, it is the second book in the Poplar Falls series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Dallas grew up in the small town of Poplar Falls. She married her high school sweetheart right after graduation, but ended up pregnant and alone when he was sent to jail. Now she’s back on her family’s ranch and raising her adorable six year old with the help of her family, and she’s working hard to create the best life for the two of them that she can.

Myer Wilson is the best friend of Dallas’ older brother, Payne. His family own the ranch next to hers and he’s been a part of her life for as long as she can remember, and she’s always been able to rely on him for anything. He’s especially good with her son, Beau, and he forms a part of her wide circle of supportive friends. But Dallas doesn’t know that Myer is madly in love with her.

Dallas is completely clueless about Myers’ feelings, and though she acknowledges his attractiveness, she’s never felt anything more for him than friendship. But that all changes when she unexpectedly starts to see him as more than a big brother figure, and all of a sudden she’s feeling all kinds of things.

The romance is slow to get started, with a lot of the book spent setting up the two characters, seeing them with their group of friends, and coming to understand their completely platonic relationship. The only hint is Myers’ little comments now and then that go completely over Dallas’ head, and it’s only once we start getting some chapters in his perspective that we learn of the depth of his feelings.

“I don’t want to put her fire out. I want to sit back and enjoy the burn. She doesn’t need to change a thing. She just needs someone to love her and love Beau with all he has, just the way they are.”
“You that man?” Payne asks, all the amusement gone from his voice.
“If she lets me be, I’ll be that man every single day for the rest of both their lives – or the rest of mine at the very least.”

Their shift to something more happens naturally, and though it’s slow to happen, once the move is made, things progress pretty quickly, which I was really happy about. Dallas is understandably tentative, but Myers has waited long enough, and though he’s nothing but supportive and understanding, he has this gruff alpha cowboy side which is so freaking swoony, and I loved watching the romance start to unfold.

“If we go inside, it’s gonna change everything,” she whispers.
What she doesn’t realize is, everything already has changed.
“Yeah,” I agree. “You ready for that?”
“I don’t know,” she answers honestly.
I sit up and take her mouth again. She opens and melts into the kiss.
When I pull back, I look her in the eye and whisper across her lips, “Yes, you do.”

Having been friends for so long, of course their feelings for each other are deep and complicated, and it’s a really sweet journey watching them figure everything out. Little Beau is a gorgeous addition to the story, and his relationship with Myer melted my heart.

There’s a bit of drama, some which was expected, some which came out of nowhere, but it’s all handled well and this book finishes with a beautifully happy ending that left me with a big smile on my face.

There’s a lot of focus given to life on the ranch – probably a bit too much for me, and I would have preferred a bit more focus on the love story, but it all fits together well, and I got enough romance to keep me invested.

The couple from the previous book are a big part of things, and there is some continuation for their story in this book, as well as some possible setups for future books. There’s a big group of side characters, and it was a bit hard to remember who was who and how they all fit together (even after finishing the book I still don’t have a handle on who everybody is), but I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and am looking forward to reading more of this series.

Definitely a good read – 3.5 stars.

«La Biblia dice en Deuteronomio 30:3: “Dios, tu Dios, restaurará todo lo que perdiste; él tendrá compasión de ti; volverá y recogerá los pedazos de todos los lugares en los que estaban esparcidos».

Una exquisita frase para un final de película.

Sencillamente maravilloso.

Honestly, I am torn on how to rate Stone Hearts.

See, I have been on a badass motorcycle romance reading kick for a solid month. Before that, I was reading lots of mafia books with some other dark-captivity-type romances mixed in between. I needed a break – something to cleanse my palate, if you will.

So, for my break, I picked up Stone Hearts, which is book #2 in Amber Kelly’s, Poplar Falls series. I read book one a few months ago and enjoyed it.

Because, what do I love more than a controlling-alpha-antihero/a-hole?

……….

description

That’s right, friends, I’m a HUGE sucker for a cowboy.

I’m not really sure why. In real life, I’m actually scared of horses and I can’t take cowboy hats seriously, but in my fiction…..

description

Anyway, back to Stone Hearts.

This book had potential to be good but there was just SO MUCH STEREOTYPICAL small-town-everyone-and-their-brother-owns-a-ranch-or-farm-and-loves-to-camp-type stuff going on and not much plot.

Also, I’ve never been to Colorado. I’m an east coast girl. So, although I can’t say for sure, I’m fairly confident that Coloradans don’t have southern accents, because ya know, Colorado IS NOT PART OF THE SOUTH. Yet, the dialog in this book (and the first book, too) is written as though Poplar Falls is a small town in Alabama or southern Kentucky, or [insert any southern state, and hell, even some states from the southwest, looking at you Texas and Oklahoma]. I just didn’t buy it. The dialog seemed all wrong and it really irked me.

Because of this, I skimmed several sections. Especially the sections discussing food. And all the boring plans for the friend’s wedding.

I didn’t skip the parts about Myer, because, again:

description

Though, since I didn’t skip Myers’ sections, I noticed there was quite a lot of redundancy in his inner dialog. He has several of the same epiphanies where he could get used to waking up with Dallas and her son every day. Duh, you said that four chapters ago. And another time before that. Get a new line.

Also, I wanted less details regarding the daily plans of the 25 characters in the plot and more action between the H and h. And when H and h did interact, there was a lot of the “telling not showing” author-trap going on, which was disappointing.

But ya know what, while this book was lacking in a lot of things, it definitely did its job of cleansing my palate and for that, I feel like I can round this up to about 2.5 stars.

**Note: I’m still on a hunt for some good cowboy-esque books, so I will happily take suggestions, because I’m having trouble finding winners.

Single mother Dallas has been raising her son, Beau, alone since her ex-husband went to prison on jail charges. Her and Beau moved onto her parents' property while Dallas worked her butt off as a waitress to make ends meet. Her older brother has a mechanic shop and his best friend, Myer, returned to Poplar Falls after an injury ended his pro-football career. Now Myer works on his family's ranch as a bonafide cowboy.

Myer is not only Dallas's brother best friends, but one of hers as well. He helps out with anything she needs and has a soft spot for Beau. As Dallas's best friend Sophie's wedding approaches, Dallas starts to realize that her feelings for Myer are more romantic than she thought. But she's not sure if she's ready to open her heart up again after being burned in the past. What Dallas doesn't know is Myer has been harboring secret feelings for her and wants nothing more than to be a family with Dallas and Beau.

So when sparks start flying between them, Dallas's heart takes over and she doesn't have a chance to let her head talk her out of it. But will Dallas's dark past come back and sabotage her second chance at love?

Stone Hearts by Amber Kelly is the second book in the Poplar Falls series. This is a friends-to-lovers slash brother's-best-friend romance (two tropes that I love). The first half of this book focused a lot on Sophie's wedding planning, which I enjoyed, but I wish more time was devoted to developing the buildup to Myer and Dallas's romantic relationship. I thought Myer was a sweet hero who had the best intentions for Dallas and Beau. If we had seen more backstory with them and seen more romantic development, I would've loved the two of them together even more. Also, there was a mystery element thrown into this story that I wasn't a fan of (it was very obvious due to Dallas's past) and I didn't think it needed to be in the story. I still did enjoy Dallas and Myer's romance and I do want to continue with the series. 3.5/5 stars.

Thank you to Wordsmith Publicity and Amber Kelly for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I adored this book so much. This is a great friends to lovers, small town, single parent romance.

Unlike the other books of the series ,Stone Hearts also has a suspense element which added to the appeal of the book.
Dallas and Myer were such a cute couple. I was so eager to read their story after all the hints that were dropped in Rustic Hearts. Myer is such a catch. He is a reliable, strong and caring guy who has been waiting for Dallas forever.
I loved reading about the great friendships between all the side characters. I loved the small town vibe that is dominant throughout the story.
I have already finished all the other books in the series and eagerly waiting for the next book to come out. Amber Kelly has a new fan in me.

Omg I loved this one even more than the last!!! Sophia may have taken my heart in book one, but oh my gosh Myer stole my entire soul. More small town cowboy vibes this time, but with a friends-to-lovers unrequited love vibe too.

Dallas is a spitfire single mom to adorable Beau, the product of a failed marriage to her drug-dealing ex-husband who is in prison. Myer is her brother Payne’s best friend, and he’s had feelings for Dallas for quite some time. Dallas feels like she doesn’t have anything to offer. She’s a single mom with two jobs and debt up to her eyeballs. Why would anyone want her?

Myer has patiently been waiting Dallas out for years, always being there for her and helping with Beau, who he loves. So when all of the adults get together for a camping weekend, and Myer and Dallas are thrown together, he’s caught completely off guard when Dallas hauls off and kisses him! Things progress, maybe more slowly than Myer would like, but things finally change for the good. And then Dallas’s ex husband shows up.

This was such an enjoyable read. Beau is a fantastic and adorable kid, Dallas is an amazing friend and mother, and Myer is just all around GOOD. We get to see Sophie and Braxton get married, and an amazingly lovely ending and epilogue for Myer and Dallas and Beau. Very moving and sweet!!!!

Stone Hearts was fun, quick, pulling at the heartstrings read to revisit the small tight knit ranch community of Poplar Falls for a sweet friends to lovers romance. Tbh often kids in CR are hit or miss for me, but Beau, Dallas’ son, added a welcome dynamic to the story & was an absolute little sweetheart & a complete scene stealer! Every. Time.

Myer is such a wonderful, good man. Myer’s so patient, loving, strong, & dependable in addition to being a sexy man’s man...AND he’s a cowboy to top it off. Hello top notch book boyfriend material right there. Dallas is so fun, feisty, strong, & a damn good mama. Myer & Dallas were a perfect match.
But...but...
Considering all the sexual chemistry sparking off the pages between Myer & Dallas throughout & the first time he took care of her was elaborated, I was taken off guard how quickly any other time they were intimate the moment “faded to black” so to speak. I can’t recall that previously in Rustic Hearts with Sophie & Braxton & well...I’ll say it, I feel teased! 😂 I didn’t have to have anywhere near a complete play by play, but c’mon, gimme a little more after all that palpable sexual tension. In the latter stages in general, I don’t think we got quite enough of them just being together.

None the less I enjoyed their love story overall & I hope we get more books in the series after Wicked Hearts(Elle & Walker’s book). I’d love to see Payne & Charlotte develop into something real. I know she’s a city girl, but maybe she could move to Denver(the closest big city). Maybe Bells & Dr. Brandt after that?

Poplar Falls, praised for its cattle ranch, is the most charming, picturesque town. Overflowing with a supportive community, I loved revisiting these characters and the connections between them. The subtle hints at future romances is such a tease and I need to pick up book three immediately!

In this one we follow Dallas, single mom and tormented with the doubt that she’s not worthy of finding love. Betrayed by her ex, her only priority is the happiness and protection of her son. The friendship turned romance that blossoms with Myer, her brother’s best friend, was the absolute sweetest, slow burn.

Showing patience and commitment to Dallas and her son, Myer was the perfect package. Add in a rescue mission on horseback and the dedication to his family owned ranch, my heart nearly burst.

“𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒕. 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒊𝒕 𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒋𝒐𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏.”

With a visitor from the past lurking in the shadows, there’s a bit of suspense that builds while reading and the ending was definitely explosive. I could not put this one down.

This is my second ARC from Amber Kelly and I had just finished the book today. I practically devoured the book overnight.

I've read the first book so I more less know who the characters were in the story because everybody in Poplar Falls are intertwined with each others lives.

I think this is a tad bit more emotional than the first book because there is Beau... You can't help but fall in love with this kid.

I wish there was more history written between Myer and Dallas. I would've wanted to read more about their younger selves... sort of like a memory hit or a flashback.

It's a light and easy read. It's sweet, sexy, heartwarming and swoony. Myer is the best. Taking on that responsibility isn't a walk in the park. But love is love right? There's no stopping it.

AMAZING!!

How, as a small town romance fanatic, have I not read this series because it is amazing!! It is everything a small town romance should be! With the tight knit friendships that are more like family, the rumour mill moving at warp speed and that sexy southern drawl!!

I adored Myer, he was the perfect good guy, a total sweetheart to both Dallas and Beau! Dallas (I love that name) was a great heroine! She stood up for her self, she was an amazing mum and I loved her journey of self love throughout the book!!

Everyone who follows my bookstagram knows that I adore kids in books! I just think they give every book that little bit more to make them memorable and rereadable! Beau was no exception, he’s one of the cutest kids I’ve read about and I loved his interactions with Myer!!

Small town romance series always have the best secondary characters and Poplar Falls is no different!! I am so excited to read the rest of the gangs love stories!!!!

5* small town romance.

Tropes:

Small town
Cowboy
Single mum
Brothers best friend

(4 of my fav tropes all in one book)!!

Dallas is a single mom raising her son, Beau. Her ex is in jail. It has only ever been her and Beau. She returns home living in on her parents property, busting her ass to make ends meet and give her son the world. Myer is Dallas's brother best friends, but also one of hers. He is a cowboy working his parents ranch and has crushed on Dallas for a long time. So he finds himself eager to help her out and Beau as much as he can.

Soon Dallas will realize her feelings are changing towards Myer, from friends to more but her walls she has erected since her ex could threaten more. Myer on the other hand is all in, he wants forever with her, with Beau. He just needs to prove it to her that he is worth lowering her walls and giving him a chance to prove his love.

Dallas and Myer's relationship have been building up since the first book but sadly I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would. It's not bad but it's not great either. Some parts were enjoyable to read but I felt like I was constantly waiting for something exciting to happen.
