Vicious Cycle: Whiskey, Women, and Water
Most fisherman don’t really fish just to catch fish. While we might appear to only fill our boats with fish, the reality is fishing fills our hearts with purpose. Many of us don’t conform to land well, or even at all. We often find ourselves more lost on dirt and grass than a parakeet in the middle of the ocean. The rogue nature of men who often live in vast waters without roads and traffic signs makes for a bad fit in a society filled with rules and regulations. Our relationship with the opposite sex is perhaps the most difficult aspect of being a fisherman. We often fight a winless battle between our primordial desire to be accepted and loved versus the unrelenting beckoning of the ocean. A fisherman has two the one where he stares at sea from land and the life where he stares at land from sea. For the fisherman, the question is not whether joy or pain are on the horizon for they’ve come to learn that both live hand in hand. The sea teaches men they cannot appreciate joy without knowing pain, and pain is not fully recognized without first experiencing joy. Loads of fish and welcoming arms are the Ying to the Yang in the darkest nights, both at sea and ashore. Despite being shackled to both like an anchor to a chain, fisherman will forever be hopelessly torn apart so long as the sea has fish, and the land has women. "Vicious Cycle" is a collection of the author’s personal tales from the sea and personal battles on land, likely resonating with every man who calls the sea home. Geer loved the ocean before he even truly knew the definition of love. He spent his lifetime trying to be nothing more than accepted as a fisherman. Now, he shares those stories and those challenges with you. This book is for those that understand that beauty can be found in something that seemingly possess no traits of the traditional definition of beautiful.

The book is a collection of real-life experiences and learnings of Captain Kenton Geer. Captain Kenton is a real fisherman who has penned down his life journey in this book. The author talks about what is sea life, how sea life functions, and how the life of fisherman goes around the sea. Not only this, as the author itself was a fisherman he has shared what difficulties and challenges he had faced. Through his tough journey of the past, the readers receive a very strong message to see life from a different perspective.
My takeaways:-
1. As the book is about real-life experiences, I got to know that life is not easy for anyone and everyone faces challenges but the way you react to the situation is all that matters and makes a difference.
2. The author has gone through a very difficult phase of life. When he had nothing to feel happy or we can say it was his tipping point, but he didn't give up. He tried hard and got up to challenge the odds.
3. The book has taught me to how to handle the vicious cycle of life. As the name suggests, the author was once trapped in a vicious cycle, and situations were entirely uncontrolled. He learned how to be brave and handle very inspiring situations.
Conclusion:
I am really happy that I read this book. It's been like a real feeling of experiencing sea life. The book is all about learning and lessons. I would recommend this book to everyone to explore the unseen life of the sea and the challenges of fisherman's life.

This book is the autobiography of Kenton, and it is beautifully written! The writing style is beautiful and very engaging.
Here is the thing about this book; it is raw, realistic, no attempt to put a not-realistic picture to the author’s life and personality. He had his own share of ups and downs in his life, from business, friends, and even family. Captain Geer discusses what happened in every situation and shared his own feelings, which in few occasions you find yourself truly connecting with him.
If reading about Captain Geer’s life isn’t enough, he made sure to include life lessons in every chapter he learned through personal experience and ending the book with more than 25 life lessons. These lessons hold so much wisdom too.
This book is the perfect read when you want to chill and get lost in a book.

I loved this book. Great collection of stories by the author Captain k. I laughed at a few stories and was mad and sad at others. I loved the way he loved the ocean. He wrote about the ocean in a poetic metaphorical way. I enjoyed that.

This book felt to me in every way, bright, quirky and so much fun. Over the top of some of the most remarkably distinct and sassy autobiographical tales, you’re ever going to meet in a book, the story also unfurls itself in a multitude of layers. On one layer, it’s a heart-warming romantic—two people and the ocean being smitten by one another, how they fall in love and what they come to be. The real fun starts however, when you begin to dive into the inner layers of the book. That’s when it gets really entertaining.
After I’d started the book, I just wanted to go and on. I fell in love with the protagonist awkwardness, his geekiness and how he adorably is in love with water not only as a fisherman but also as its admirer.
It is not just another addition to the plain, old autobiographical sector. It is not anything ‘yet another’. It is brand new, in every sense. It is unheard of (at least to me) in the intermixing of the thematic sense: how it intermingles with so many experiences all at once. Trying to sow the seeds of love not only through romance, but taking the aid of women, bar, infinite waters and fishing —it is quite a ride through the tunnels of time. And ruling it all, there is a sense of able humour engraved into the book. You can laugh at how he puts to words what his characters end up feeling, giving us perfect opportunities to have a laugh and a sense of true joy from within. Moreover, the book touches upon a lot of sombre topics too. You’ll come face to face about the hazards of this vicious circle that doesn’t accept you fully, and most crucial of all—you’ll get a glimpse of how queer representation in the hearts and minds are affected…taking along experience after experience. The beauty of the book lies just here.

Story of seaman is just as sea itself, interesting and unique.
The author narrates his life story that revolves around land and out at sea describing different aspects of life on the different side of the horizon.
“The ocean does not play favourites. Rather, it play odds. The greater your worldly commitment to her, the greater her returns to you. What outside may wrongly perceive as luck, good or bad, is generally a dividend for sacrifices you were or not were willing to make for her.
The ocean doesn’t abuse me or break me. It’s what makes me alive. Whipping winds fill my lungs and my heart.
I love when you write enough words you discover that it’s completely impossible tell if you’re talking about the ocean or a woman. I love being humbled by the ocean and I love being humbled by women.”

That is why life is a vicious cycle that comes with struggles and obstacles that we cannot avoid and should not try to avoid. Rather than avoiding it, learn to step over the obstacles it presents to you so you can ride over it instead of becoming part of it.

We all are greatly aware about farmers and their life, how much do we know about fisherman and about their lifestyle and struggles?
This book has a contagious content for all the sea lovers. When we start witnessing the life about sea and fisherman through the intricate details holding a dream from a thirteen years old boy to his life long fisherman experience. Now, it becomes quite enormous to imagine.🐟
The author has formed a purpose about his life. This book totally dedicates to his life and what we can learn from a fisherman struggle. Life in sea and above the surface is totally different. It's quite like they are just touching the two elements with the similar perception to build a exotic life
I found out this statement quite impressive— " To be good, you must be consistent. And to be consistent at sea, you must be experienced. To be experienced, you must have lived. To have lived, you must have found both tremendous success and failure."
Author has reflected his learnings and gradual progress with his own life lessons. As we get more into books this make us to understand how their affinity develops for sea.
It keeps you hooked and also keeps pushing your perception and visualisation to the level of surfing and fishing which is quite tricky in their own way.
The title of the book is so valid and apt and the language is lucid and humourous.
The best part of this book when author himself had given a 100 days Yoga challenge. That's totally life transformation. Everyday of Yoga asanas and excercise are explicitly stated which motivate us to get a life out of living a rut life.
"The more time we spend on top of the water or submerged within it, the greater we understand that a lot of things that happen on land just don’t make any sense at all."
This book has so much to serve from love, excursion to self transformation. "BREATHE".

We human living on the land from many years.We found our food and daily livelihood from it.But getting to another ecosystem for it, is quite tough. Isn't it?
Understanding the total cycle of the other ecosystem is a great thing that human can achieve.
Author Kenton Geer presents it very well in his book.Sharing his life story for being a seaman and presenting sea as his second home, he penned everything about his lifelong journey from the land to the sea.His fun, struggle, reward, lost everything is mentioned in this read.
Catching fish not an art it's more than an emotion for him.Relating him on sea with life one can say "Without experiencing pain you can never praise the it's joy".
Here are some takeaways that made this read quite deep.

Holden Caulfield in Catcher in the Rye tells us, “What really knocks me out is a book that, when you’re done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it.”
That's how I felt after reading Kenton Geer's Vicious Cycle: Whiskey, Women, and Water.
Kenton Geer’s book fills in so many of the author’s personal tales from the sea and personal battles on land, likely resonating with every man who calls the sea home. classic work without sounding as if he were capitalizing on a trend. He adds the details we wish we knew before without taking away the emotions. While Kenton Geer’s work is, in my opinion, literary perfection, his book does not detract from that perfection by filling in the details Kenton Geer felt were able to be omitted. Instead, Kenton Geer is rewarding us with sharing some stories we’ve been wondering about.
Kenton Geer is an amazing writer of great purpose. I appreciate each of his writings so this book wasn’t necessarily something he had to do. Don’t expect this to be author’s personal tales ; this book is so much more.

There is just something about the Sea. It looks scary and mysterious which makes it much more alluring. For some of us who are intimidated by the idea of going out in the ocean , it is not the same for the Author. Vicious Cycle is a book about the life and all the experiences of the Author. Being a true fisherman at heart he talks about his journey of going through the highs and lows of his life. It is apparent from the title of the book Whisky, Women and Water is something that he treasures the most. There also comes a point in his life where there is a deficit of these valuable aspects. What he has lost and what he has gained from it .It was definitely an enjoyable read. Apart from the stories itself there were many fun facts about the author and his likings which was really entertaining to read. The life of a Seaman sure does sound amazing but it is one filled with a lot of struggles. The Authors writing style was very capturing and enthusiastic. It is a light read so if you are looking for a book to indulge on a day definitely do give it a try.

This is a story of the author itself, a story of a sailor. The book is very well written and storytelling is one of the best. When you start reading it, you always feel connected with the words.
In this book, the author talks about 3 major things of life - whiskey, water, and women. Whiskey fulfills his emptiness, women fulfill his thoughts, and water as his true love. The best thing I loved the most while reading it is how the author describes things such as luck, love, woman, ocean. I particularly loved one quote about Luck from the book from chapter 15 which goes like - "Luck is often viewed as happenstance, but in reality, most luck is a combination of the time you were willing to expend on an effort versus the amount others weren’t."

Kenton Geer is the Marlboro Man incarnate. He's that guy that billboards allude to when they talk about "rugged" men. He's traveled all over the world as a commercial fisherman and adventurer and tells the tale in his memoir, Vicious Cycle. In it, you'll find him buying his first boat, fishing the Great Barrier Reef, sleeping with police officers to get out of a DUI, drinking, saving a crewmate from being murdered by Asian sex traffickers and more. This book is one of those easy-to-read tales of a life lived where the perspective is from someone who sees the land, not the ocean, as the rough, choppy challenge to navigate. All of his highs and lows are poured into this book. Anyone looking for a good "rainy-day - I'd - like - to -be -anywhere - but- here" afternoon read should pick up this book.

Viciuos cycle is a raw and authentic autobiography, which does not try to embellish the life of the author, but only describes it with realism and perhaps for this reason it goes straight to the heart.
Kenton Geer is a fisherman and through his relationship with the ocean, he tells us about his relationship with life!
I was very impressed by the way he tells his story, how he is not afraid to show his falls. The moments of difficulty are not softened, but not even scotomized: they are just pieces of life, from which we can only learn!

Book Plot-
If one is willing to witness a perfect interplay of one’s pursuits connoting the wins, the losses and all its other facets including women and whiskey, the literary work at present here is one stop for him/her. Proceeding further with the same, the storyline is concerned with the life of the author Captain Kenton Geer, his pursuits and his avid love of fishing and a perfect beginning of the same is set with the introduction part of the book itself which talks about:- Women, Whiskey and Water and discusses its addictive attributes and at the same time the longing that the ocean has for people like him. In addition to the same a sense of progression is maintained in the form of his love encounter and recounts a sense of falling into a slight oblivion after being loyal to their relevant crafts. Delving further, the pace remains to be steady in the form of his alcohol encounters as aptly titled “Bar Life: Drowning on land Six Ounces at a Time” and steadily the same continues till the 15th Chapter as aptly title:- “Lessons from the vicious Cycle”
It must be taken heed of the fact that the author has in a poignant and steady fashion presented this literary work and also with a pinch of lucidity in the mixture as well which makes it a very friendly read and relatable to the readers in many ways and it can be safely said that this 297 pages book is a must read for everyone

This book is for those who understand that beauty can be found in something that seemingly possess no traits of the traditional definition of beautiful.

1) We all make mistakes!
We are not our mistakes. Don’t let a mistake haunt you forever. Learn from it, correct it accordingly, and move on. We only get one life. Don’t spend it living in the past.

2) Stay true to who you are. We all have our niche. Embrace it. If you’re a fisherman and you love
being a fisherman, stay being a fisherman. Don’t change that for anyone. You’re not the
problem. You’re beautiful just the way you are.

3) Kindness. Kindness is always the preferred option. When given the chance, always try to use it. It’s true what they say about getting more bees with honey than vinegar. Kindness is free, easy to use, and highly valuable. Always treat others the way you wish to be treated and you’ll be amazed how often everything works out better than expected, even in the most difficult of situations.

Are you a mountain person or sea person?
I never had mountain experience before but I do have some amazing memories with sea. So for now I can say I'm a sea person!
And so coming across this book which extensively talk about sea, fishermen and how their lives around fishing and sea was the real fantastic treat.
Viscious Cycle : Whiskey, women and water is a book based on Captain Kenton Geer's life who is author of this book and also a true fisherman.
In this book he talked about his life journey, experiences, challenges he had during his sea journey. What he learned, what he earned and what he lost during the journey.
Reading how adventurous and inspiring his journey is made me his fan! Those who have been reading my reviews for quite long time now knows that I have this soft spot when it comes to life lessons and philosophies. And this book is full of them! Icing on the cake for me!
I loved author's narration style which was very engaging, enthusiastic and entertaining. This book made me laugh, think, reflect and experience.
Despite it's based on fishermen and their lives, I believe this book would be a good read for any reader who's on look out for a reading adventure!

The word “Vicious” itself portrays the violent journey which has been trap in a cycle with the key elements whiskey, women and water. The author depicts personal experience.
The Vicious cycle is the name given to the boat which was owned by author. The name was the result of frustration which was highlighted by his business partner brett.

The author describes about the experience being a seafarer. He has poured the forthright content. How initially he started with small thing which eventually brought good outcome. He has seen different creature of sea with whom he got connected.

He have also evoked about a part when he had become wifeless, boatless and worthless. The point indicates that how sometimes life become so harsh on us that it becomes difficult to cope up with the situation. He shares that how his one part always wanted to be in ocean while it was also necessary to be on land to maintain his basic norms.

So, at the end he told about the lesson that has been learned by him. This book can relate to the sailor out there and can also provide knowledge or information to the people who are working on land.

A memoir of a man of experiences ( A great & successful fisherman)

Author @viciouscyclefishing believes that if whatever you do you have to be 100% in it. It’s not what you do it is what you are. ( Your identity must sounds that work you do).
Having got years of experiences author tried to share what he knows about the combination of Water, Women & Whiskey in an individual life. ( I am not sure about whiskey but yah Water & Women are the most influential elements )

I would say “Everyone” but not “Early beginners” ( Vocabularies are high). Author also shared some philosophical lessons he learned so far about being a man & importance of having a women.( and the balance of women & life)

The cover of the book is so mesmerizing that one cannot take away eye from it. The author Captain Kenton Geer who is a sailor tells about the his own experience. He has describe the high and low of his life. He tells how he started his journey. The book contains the idea about the vicious cycle of author life in which he was leaving.

He cover ups the three major thing that is whiskey, women and water. How the whiskey fulfill his voidness, how the women used to fill his thought process and how the water was the closest to his heart. One of his part used to belong to sea. He has mentioned about his business partner whose first impression was not so great but who was talented in his field.
The author had different personalities on land and water. He used to stand out during social gathering.

The language of the book is very simple. The writer has not sugarcoated anything. One can easily read without difficulty. One should atleast read these book once.

Basically the book is about the fishermen or you can say a sailor . Who has a dream to buy a sportfishing boat and that's lead the Journey of how he get the boat and form this you will experience his life journey through this book.
In this book you will experience that how difficult life of sailor in every phase of his life and how he tackle that every difficult and over comes .
