A Spy Among Them

by Tempie W. Wade

(This is a full-length book)All is fair in love and war when a devilishly handsome rogue holds the key to what you desire most! Young Emma Eldridge is introduced to the harsh existence of living under British rule when she becomes the sole witness to the murders of her beloved parents at the hand of one of their leaders. With no other living relatives left in the world, she is taken in by her ‘spinster’ aunt, Lucile Wolfe of New York, who is anything but an innocent little old lady. Thirteen years later, in the year 1779, America is in the midst of a brutal battle for independence from England, and New York is currently controlled by the British army. Emma and her Aunt Lucy are now not only the most desired socialites in town but the biggest source of information for the opposing army regarding troop movements within the city. Their normally easy endeavors become a bit more complicated with the arrival of the keen and charismatic Major John André, the newly appointed British Head of Intelligence. Emma must redouble her efforts to protect the secrets they keep while continuing to further the Patriot cause. Her focus shifts dramatically, however, when she discovers Major André in the possession of a letter signed by a man she vowed to kill, and she will risk anything to exact her revenge — even if it costs her everything.

Once again Ms. Wade has created a story full of well rounded characters, with plot twists and intrigue that keeps you reading well past bed time. As always the history is spot on and is well researched. This is a standalone book but there are mentions of characters from the A Timely Revolution series. Can't wait to read more from Tempie Wade

I liked the book, plot, and characters. My only grip is I had a hard time believing a woman even of her own means in society would do some of the things Emma and her aunt did in that time period I liked the characters, though, as they were interesting even if I was mad at Emma a lot... but she definitely made me feel something reading it and it didn't end the way I thought it would.

This book was absolutely wonderful! As a stand alone, it's a fun adventure of deception and flirtatious adventure. As a companion to the Timely Revolution series, it's a fun connection to characters we have already come to love and adds more to them. I sincerely hope we see more of Emma in the future, either in her own series or tied in with TR.
