I found my way to this book after reading the Victoria Wood biography "Let's Do It!"... it was such a fascinating read and it rekindled my view that Victoria Wood was an incredible comedic talent! Far more so than she was ever given credit for, in my humble opinion. So, after reading that I searched the library catalogue for more of her work and found this little gem, as well as "Pat and Margaret" (which I'm currently reading). What a joy this collection of sketch scripts is... so many of them are as relevant today as they ever were... only the odd line or two doesn't stand the test of time. What can't be denied, though, is the sheer talent of Victoria Wood... her writing is clever, insightful, masterful and cheeky! After reading these scripts I looked up the actual sketches on You Tube and found that they were even funnier on screen - something echoed by my 15 year old twins, so she really has longevity and relevance today. A fabulous little read!
Not my first reading of this by a long chalk and even with the DVDs now all out, its still good to revel in the utter joy of Wood's wordplay which absolutely helped define my own sense of humour and writing. Already missed hugely.
