The premise of this book was good - Actress trying to start her life over as her career is ending - but the plot fell a little short for me in that much of it was very predictable and cliche'.
I did enjoy the small town of Devastation and its inhabitants. It reminded me of the small town where I grew up, and everyone knew everyone's business, and there was no shame in gossiping about it (Tee Hee). I also liked the way Ms. Mason "touched" on issues such as colorism, body morphing, chronic disease, LBGTQ Awareness, depression and suicide, but did not "beat" the reader over the head with it.
Some of the writing was distracting and the word "Introspect" and derivatives thereof, were overused unnecessarily.
I hate that this is J.D. Mason's farewell song. I have enjoyed her writing career and particularly enjoyed the book, "Finding Amos", which she co-authored with Bernice McFadden and ReShonda Tate-Billingsley. Our book club read this book for our December, 2016 meeting and Ms. Mason and Ms. Tate-Billingsley participated via Skype.
Our book club will be discussing this book on October 2nd via Zoon, and I can hardly wait to hear everyone's perspective.
