Tides and Ruin

Rate this book
You heard her scream when he fell on that battlefield.

Stealing a prized jewel is nothing compared to a heart. Raised to be the perfect thief, Lyra was not above using her body or her siren's song to take exactly what she wanted, when she wanted it.
But when she is attacked and her song is stolen, she must find a way to win over the commander of the Flame Court while on the brink of war, even if it means sacrificing everything she'd ever learned about being a siren. She thought she could fool him, fool them all. But really she was only fooling herself.

This standalone spin-off will sweep you under the sea with star-crossed lovers, stow you away on pirate ships, and destroy you all over again.

Blood and Promise was the debut new adult, high fantasy, fae novel for Miranda Lyn. She grew up smack dab in the middle of the United States with nothing to do but dream up stories of fantastical creatures and powerful heroines. Now married with three children of her own, an idea sparked a buried passion within her to follow a dream and teach her children that anything is possible if you’re willing to work hard for it.

"𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒄𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏, 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆.."

When I fell deeply in love with the Fae Rising trilogy, I never imagined that I would become somehow even more enamored with this stunning spinoff standalone novel. Lyra and Kai’s story reached untapped and untouched recesses of my heart and soul and I cannot tell you how much I am gonna miss these two!

For starters, I appreciate so much a nautical and/or atmosphere in a fantasy novel, but I did not expect to be met with such an intricately built undersea setting Miranda Lyn presents us with in this installment! I loved the way she develops the siren species and their fascinating lore throughout this book. Much of the main action of the story takes place underwater and I found it so refreshing!

I’m not sure if my attempt to convey the depth of my affection for Kai and Lyra will entirely do this pairing justice, but I will certainly try! I loved how much these two truly met their match in one another. The chemistry between them begins with addictive, flirty banter and develops into a fiery passion between two characters who simply cannot resist one another.

Now, when it comes to that ending…I can fully say I NEVER expected this novel to close in such a satisfying way. I trusted Miranda to destroy me and piece back together the shards of my broken heart but not in a million years did I think we’d get such brilliant closure. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the Sea Witch was such an epic character and I’m head over heels for her!!

Without a doubt, these four books are now and forever rereads for me! If you’re a fellow Fae-obsessed reader like me, PLEASE do yourself a favor and read one of the best faery tales ever written. Although this one is absolutely a standalone, I VERY highly recommend reading the Fae Rising trilogy before diving into Tides and Ruin in order to achieve the full range of emotion that I experienced with this one!

PERFECTION! I knew I would cry and I definitely did. I loved every minute of Lyra and Kai's story. Miranda Lyn effortlessly takes us on their journey on the sea and paints a vivid picture beneath the depths of the ocean and emotion. Beautifully done! Five glorious stars from me.

It’s about a SIREN!!! Any fan of romantasy needs to read this!
I’m upping this to 5 stars because I have not stopped thinking about it. It was originally 4 because it was a little lighter on the romance than I anticipated. (There are however spicy scenes)

This is also a spin off of a series and you would probably get more out of the original couple and side characters if you read those but I would recommend reading this as a stand alone because the other reviews seems to conclude this is the best one.. and I didn’t feel like I missed anything too important.

If you have other siren/mermaid/under the sea recs please please please share them.

Miranda Lyn is a magician. Being able to weave together beautiful words, prefect fight scenes, witty banter and heart wrenching storylines is no easy feat. But she does it. And she does it well.

Tides and Ruin is the book we all needed. Overlapping the final Fae Rising book (Fate & Flame), it follows the story of Lyra, a vicious siren thief, as her path crosses with the gorgeous, sexy and charming commander of the Flame Court, Kai.

*pause for swooning*

This story has everything you could possibly want from an adult fantasy romance. Action. Betrayal. Love. Smut. Twists. Laugh out loud banter. It's just wonderful and you need to read it.

Now.

I DNF this one.

Here's my thoughts live while reading:

The prologue starts with Kaitelan (young boy) whose mind is taken over by a young sea fae in order to save her from being trapped in ropes. She can apparently also read his thoughts intermittently. I’m not sure how old they are but the gift she gives Kai is the start of an obsession with the sea for the rest of his life.

Chapter one starts from Lyra’s point of view. She is a siren who steals treasure from pirates. At one point she said she doesn’t force or take without consent and I assume she’s referring to sex. But she still took control from them and forced obedience by her mind persuasion magic. That’s not consensual so I’d rather that part have been left out unless the character is in denial of her morales.

Ah. I love how Miranda portrays Lyra’s concept of sex in chapter 2. Finally it’s the woman getting the pleasure she wants by using a man, leaving him stranded without release and reclaiming the stolen item he took from her kind. It was perfect.

Some sentences confuse me like I’m unsure if they’re above or below water in some places.

There’s something about the prose or writing style that keeps forcing me to reread. As if I’m missing something. This is slowing down the pace.

Okay I read another chapter and I think what’s holding me up is the frequent use of fragments. Some are okay but there’s so many that it’s really messing with the flow. I’m struggling through it because it’s tedious and burdensome to understand what she’s trying to write. The thought processes from one sentence to the next often doesn’t feel connected so I’m having a hard time. At least in chapter 4 the boy from the prologue is reintroduced, now as a man.

So in chapter 6 I’m wondering if they don’t remember each other? Lyra needs to retrieve a key from the commander but is having trouble completing the task. Is he actually immune to her powers?

It feels uncharacteristic of her to not learn basic fighting skills.

I just finished chapter 7 and I think the only ongoing issue I’m going to have is things are just straight up confusing sometimes. One character made a comment in conversation that seemed to come from nowhere. And the events feel like they’re jerking around and not flowing. I’m having trouble following it all.

The transitions are pretty abrupt from setting to setting. Within one sentence they miraculously jump between two locations and it’s jarring. I’m not always sure who is speaking in dialogue. Sometimes the heroine has a paragraph of internal thoughts and then the conversation continues without a dialogue tag so again, I need to go back to reread so I don’t miss something.

In chapter 8 when they’re in the castle it is not clear if it’s below or above water. So I’m confused on what’s happening if I can’t picture the location.

Okay. After chapter 9 I’m starting to get frustrated. There’s too many fragments. Is he a sea god or is he not? That part was confusing. And did someone important just die? Because somehow I missed when it happened and again, had to reread. I’m wanting to DNF right now so I’m not sure if I should give it another try in the morning.

So I decided to stop at page 86/388. One of the reasons why is because so want to read stories that model the style of writing I’m trying to achieve in my novels. I don’t want to read too many pages or books that go against my goal of how I’m attempting to write. Maybe one day I’ll come back and try again.

If you love mermaid/siren stories, check out this blurb:

Stealing a prized jewel is nothing compared to a heart.
Raised to be the perfect thief, Lyra is not above using her body or her siren's song to take exactly what she wants, when she wants it.
But when she is attacked and her song is stolen, there’s only one fae that can help her. The fae she’d sworn to stay far away from. Now, she must find a way to win over the commander of the Flame Court, even if it means sacrificing everything she’s ever learned about being a siren.
She thinks she can fool him, fool them all. But really, she is only fooling herself.
This standalone spin-off will stow you away on pirate ships, lure you under the sea, and wrench the beating heart from your chest with this star-crossed lovers’ tale.

i can’t even begin to express how amazing this book is. you know a book is really good when your heart literally constricts or your stomach does flips every other page while you’re reading. that was this book for me. i personally love everything about the sea and mermaids and pirates and the like, so i was ESPECIALLY excited when miranda announced this spin off to her original fae rising series (ps go read that, its v good and necessary to avoid spoilers in tides and ruin. it also hits harder that way).
-
tides and ruin follows lyra, a siren thief who knows how to use her song to get anything and everything she wants. i absolutely LOVE lyra. she’s such a firecracker in the best ways and i had a really great time trying to figure out what on earth she was going to do next. she’s also really sexy (hello, siren, duh lol) and that’s always a plus in my book. her story is a tragic one, but her strength shines through as she overcomes every single obstacle that is thrown her way.
-
kai kai kai kai kai. we love a fae commander, and i have loved kai since the fae rising series. he was always my favorite side character so i was THRILLED to find out he would be the main character in his own book. especially after fate and flame, if you know, you KNOW. and honestly, he was every bit of fantastic as i expected him to be as the main love interest. his banter with lyra is the best and his quick jabs of humor kept me laughing—even while i was hurting. he is the perfect counter part for lyra and their journey is one i will never forget—and will probably read over and over again.
-
everything about this book was absolutely perfect. if you love heists, pirates, epic battles, creepy sea ladies, and spicy times, this book is for you!! i highly recommend the entire fae rising series, but this book especially has a special place in my heart.

10-16: 'Tides and Ruin' is the fourth book and a spin-off of the Fae Rising series by Miranda Lyn.

Over the last year, I've heard a ton about this author and series from my friends.. even those who don't read a lot of indie work.. and so I've been meaning to give it a try for awhile. This book has all the elements that I couldn't resist.. sirens/mermaids, pirates, fae, and the sea.

Star-crossed love is always a fun trope, especially when there's innate distrust involved.. and Lyra has plenty of that. She's a bit of a jaded character, written to come across as an edgy, tough-talking female.. but it reads more like posturing by someone who thinks that's how it sounds. The result being she's a bit of a cliche, however likable.

The author has an elegant writing style and paints dramatic scenes vividly, but the more personal encounters are often just more of a glancing blow. It's really kind of interesting to see how different the two are at times.

All-in-all, it's a quick, fun read. While there's a lot of room to expand on character and story depth here, it's enjoyable for what it is. Somewhat steamy, mythical fun with a bit of 'eye candy' along the way.

Tides and Ruin is a standalone new adult fantasy by author Miranda Lyn. Though Tides and Ruin can be read as a standalone, it is set in the same world as Miranda's Fae Rising series and their is significant character overlap and world events overlap. The events of Tides and Ruin take place during the time of the third book in the Fae Rising series, and although you will not be lost if you have not read that trilogy first, I think you do benefit greatly from reading this book after you read the first three books in the Fae Rising trilogy. That being said, Tides and Ruin is by far my favorite book out of the four I have read by Miranda Lyn. I liked these characters the best and I loved the romance in Tides and Ruin!

In Tides and Ruin, we meet our main character, Lyra. Lyra is a siren who is used to getting her way. But when her song is stolen, Lyra herself becomes very lost, and she is determined to win her song back. On her quest to find her song, she ventures to the Sea Queen's court and it is there she finds Kai. Fans of the original trilogy will recognize Kai as one of the main core characters, and I was so excited to see him get his own story because he was my favorite character from the Fae Rising series.

Lyra is a great character. She is fierce, strong and doesn't take no for an answer. She is a take charge kinda gal, and I loved that about her. It is so satisfying to watch Kai and Lyra banter back and forth, and I was rooting for them from the start. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster, but the journey is worth it. I think it is the best book Miranda Lyn has penned to date. I really enjoyed Tides and Ruin. You can read Tides and Ruin at any time, and it is a true standalone, but if you choose to read it prior to her Fae Rising series, be warned that there are spoilers for the third book present throughout this story. For that reason, I recommend reading it after the original Fae Rising trilogy.

Here’s another spin-off that I liked. I have had my eye on the Fae Rising books for a while and when I got the chance to read the arc for Tides and Ruin, it made the decision for me that I need to read the first books.

This was like a Pirates of the Caribbean meets the Little Mermaid mashup, except the pirates aren’t human, they’re fae.

Lyra is a siren who’s half siren, half fae. From a very young age, her mom taught her the way of the sirens which makes her a very good thief. Lyra is given a mission by her dad, Turrik, to go to the Flame Court and steal the prison keys so that they can free the sea queen, Morwena. Her mark? None other than Commander Kaitalin. She goes after her mark, but things don’t play out the way she thought they would. For one thing, Kai seems to be resistant to Lyra’s siren song. Another? There’s this incredibly strong pull, which she immediately brushes it off as just lust. Nonetheless, Lyra fails to retrieve the keys and that’s the first time she’s ever failed a mission.

Before she reports back to her dad, Lyra is drugged and has her song stolen from her. A siren’s song is a huge part of their identity. Without it, they feel a huge void, which compels them to go to any lengths to get it back. This was actually how Turrik held onto Lyra’s mom for so long. When Lyra tells her dad of her stolen song, he says he knows how to get it back. But Turrik and Lyra are called to the sea court after Morwena was broke out of prison (which I didn’t get why she was in prison to begin with, probably a previous book thing).

The sea court is a very oppressive place. If you’re not deemed worthy, you’re made into a slave. Morwena is holding court when soldiers from the Flame Court bust in with their friend Doriahs, the hydra. The evil queen gets taken out and the slaves are freed. In a way, Lyra is a slave to her dad’s wishes since he holds the information on how to get her song back.

Things get interesting when Kai is left in charge of seeing the aftermath of their sort of takeover. That connection they had in the Flame Court is still there and when Kai acts like he doesn’t remember Lyra, it drives her crazy. When they start working together, Kai has her “spy” on the rest of the court, things get good!

I love love love love love Kai. He’s such a great male. Love his personality. Lyra is kind of stupid about hiding who her dad is and that she needs information from him. Had she been up front, she wouldn’t have had to suffer so much and Kai wouldn’t have to live through that disappointment.

Things go really really really bad at some point and the Flame Court goes to war with the Wind Court (again, another place where I have no idea what happened). When this very bad thing happened, I wasn’t for it and I just couldn’t cope with it so I glossed over it and I’m glad I did! Lol

Lyra goes through some very hard journeys, both figuratively and literally, and comes out on the other side all the better for it. That and Kai are my favorite parts of this story. I’m definitely interested in filling in the blanks so I’ll be hitting those first books ASAP.

Okay! Let me preface this by saying that this is my first foray into the Fae Rising series, so all I knew was that so many of my friends loved it. I knew nothing else. But when I was offered the chance to read Tides & Ruin, I was all in!! Because who could say no to Sirens and Spice! It’s a winning combo!

Lyra was a complete badass! I was living for her as the MC.

Am I sad that she only gets one book? YES! I want more from her story, even though her character arc was very clearly completed in this standalone.

Was I able to read this and understand everything that was going on having not read the Fae Rising series? Also, Yes! Other than wanting more books, I wasn’t confused or anything. But wanting more is normal when you love something, right??

I guess now I just need to dive into the rest of Miranda Lyn’s books…. Did you see that pun there? 😂

What to even say about this beautiful book. It’s even more than I was expecting and the bar was set extremely high after reading the Fae Rising trilogy earlier this year. Lyra is such a complex character that endures so much at the hands of others and also has internal struggles within herself. This is a journey. A coming of age story. A romance. A road to healing. All of the things I wanted were in this story and so much more. I haven’t felt this deeply for characters in a very long time. I am a little sad that this is the last book for a while because I just need more and more of this story!

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a book where the main character is a siren before! 🧜🏻‍♀️ Tides and Ruin is part of the Fae Rising series - I haven’t read the series yet, but this book can be read as a stand-alone. 📖

Lyra is a siren, and she’s a cocky and seductive thief🔑. She gets out of tricky situations using her siren song and looks after herself, until one of her marks, a man named Kai, turns her world upside down⚓️. And then someone steals from her...🪝

Lyra and Kai have fun banter and steamy chemistry🔥, and I had a lot of fun reading about their adventures! ⚔️

I really don’t know how to review this book. At about halfway through, I wanted to abandon it because the writing was confusing and kind of elementary. Though to be fair, I think a bit of the confusion came from this being a spin off to a series I never read. But for some reason, out of the many books I never hesitated to DNF, I decided to stick through with this one. I wasn’t expecting such a large character redemption, though that turned out to be the best part of the book. The romance was a little too insta for my taste, though Kai was very loveable. But a lot of this did feel like the main story would be a copy of acotar. Anyway, the resurrecting Kai in the end was a bit unexpected (I feel like authors don’t want to be predictable so they choose to kill characters that die on page off for good), though it was also appreciated.

DNF.

I tried to like this book, I really did, but I could barely get a quarter of the way through.

I was expecting to love this! I loved Kai in the previous books, but honestly there just wasn’t enough of Kai (in the parts that I read) for it to be worth it. I really *really* did not find Lyra to be a likable character and it just got to be too much for me.

Book review - Tides and Ruin
By @authormirandalyn 🧜🏼‍♀️

This is the "sequel" novel: Tides and Ruin from The Fae rising trilogy.
First off, the hardcover is stunning. With beautiful purple details and the mermaid.

I had some problems getting invested in the start of this book. The start is with several events that are happening in the same timeframe as the third book in the fae rising series, Fate and flame.
I think this was part of the issue for me since it has been a while since i read fae rising. I got caught up in the details around events from Fate and flame instead of getting invested in the MC Lyra`s adventure.
Miranda has a good writing style but the plot did not grip me as much as in the trilogy.
But then from a part around the middle of the book Lyra`s actions and happenings is ongoing after the end of Fate and flame. And then it all loosened up. 🥰
How Miranda writes about loss and coping with grief is really amazing.
She also has a great way of writing about friendship in such a way that you can really connect to the characters and relate to my own experiences.
Lyra is part siren, part "landweller". She can use her siren song to control other fae, and uses it to gain treasures and favors for her father.💎
She has been trained as a thief and does not know other ways. But when her father is captured by the flame court she meets a person that will change her life forever.
She is torn between the need to find a way to release her father to other ways that demand she changes her direction in life. Could she possibly change how she sees the world?
Can a certain someone tear down the walls she has built to protect herself?
❤️
The second part of the plot is really exciting and wonderfully written. We get to meet several of our most beloved characters from fae rising. Especially a certain feisty heroine 😉
We meet Sirens, merfolk, a smirky Hydra, pirates and fae.
I Love how magical Miranda`s world is and by the end of this book I was crying of a wonderful made ending to the story.
Lyra`s journey started a bit slow for me, but by the end i loved both her and her development from the story.
A clear 4 star for me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Let me start by saying that if you have not read the Fae Rising series, do not read any further. There will be spoilers but you do not have to read the series to enjoy this book. I do recommend reading them in order due to all of the characters and details that will be referenced.

Holy Moly was this book an e ticket ride.....If you do not know what that is...let me tell you it is a wild, crazy rollercoaster of emotions. I will start by saying that Miranda has built a world that is fantastical and wonderful and heart wrenching. I loved her Fae Rising series and this book is no exception. The story follows Lyra who is a Siren and Kai who is the Commander of the Flame Courts army. Lyra has been sent to steal a key that he possesses. They meet and the story ignites from there. The romance is steamy and enjoyable. The lyrical writing style that is Miranda Lyn will suck you in and keep you within the story...I could not put this book down and read through the night. At one point I was sobbing so hard that I woke up my husband! I am not a regular cryer in books. Its rare that I will get that involved in the story. This one had me from the beginning. What I loved most from the book was the range of emotions that I felt while reading....I could be laughing one minute and sobbing the next. You will run the gamut of fillings within this story. Do yourself a favor and pick up her series and then continue with this story. I promise you will not be disappointed and you will thank me for it.

If I could give this book 100 stars I would..for this rating, I give it the highest number of stars. 5 big , huge, bright stars! Thank you Miranda for introducing me to your world!

📚 Book review of Tides and Ruin 📚

Star rating ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟/ 5

Spoiler free review 📖

I was provided a free eARC in exchange for my honest review. Also disclaimer I have not read the original trilogy so this was read as a stand alone.

First off, this book made me want to ugly cry 4 times and I even shed a couple tears which is very not normal for me. This book utterly broke me at times and it was totally worth the read and emotions it gave me.

This book is definitely written for all the survivor's in this world and I loved the overall message I got from it.

The characters: Lyra was the morally grey and downright cringey at times main character and I wasn't sold on her at first but by the end, I wanted her as a friend and her story arc was amazing. She was very relatable and i think thats maybe why sometimes the reactions she had made me cringe, as I know I've lashed out just like her in my own life. Kai was an obvious fave from the get go and now I have a new book boyfriend 🥰

The smut: it's a lil spicy but nothing too crazy and doesn't detract from the main plot which I appreciate!

The overall plot: I was kind of lost in the beginning but by chapter 5 or so I started to understand where the book was headed and the plot was chefs kiss by the end

I really recommend this book, the characters were written so well and were very relatable, the story will leave you heartbroken in all the right ways and the plot will have you staying up till 1am like I did cause I couldn't put it down.

Check your trigger ⚠️ this book is NA, not YA.

I absolutely have to read the trilogy now!!

When siren Lyra is charged with stealing a key from Kaitalen, the commander of the Flame Court’s army, she thinks it’ll be as simple as all her previous tasks have been. Get in and get out. But when she meets Kai in person, everything changes. He’s immune to her siren song, and while at first she is intrigued, soon enough, she finds that she can’t stop thinking about him.

When Lyra’s siren song is stolen from her, she is willing to do anything to get it back. Which means she needs Kai’s key more than ever. But as Lyra gets to know the commander better, she stops thinking like a siren, and starts thinking more like someone who’s falling in love…

Oh. My. God. This book completely destroyed me, in a good way!!! There was just something about Kai, with his easy smile and beautiful words, that I couldn’t help but fall in love with him. And Lyra… she has this stone cold mask for the rest of the world, and a lot of it has to do with the way she grew up, but with Kai, it’s like she finally found someone who saw her for her. Just her, not the siren. I loved their relationship; I loved the way Kai treated Lyra, and how strong Lyra was. Stronger than even she thought she could be.

This book was brilliantly written and utterly heart wrenching. Lyra and Kaitalen’s story is not something I’ll forget anytime soon. This book was full of sinful steam, witty banter, and agonizing angst, and I loved every second of it. I will definitely be checking out Lyn’s other work. 5 freaking stars!!!

I remembered his smile and the laugh that paused the world

ARC exchanged for an honest review.

When you think you have read amazing books, another one comes, and then another, and another, and this happened to me reading this book. When I read Blood and Promise I thought: “This is good”, reading Chaos and Destiny my thoughts were like “This an awesome and epic book” and then I read Tides and Ruin. So, welcome to this review about a book that destroyed me.

This is the story of Lyra, a thief, a badass and strong woman and most important, a Siren. She has a job to do, get free someone important from her kingdom under the sea, but that’s the easy part, the problem is the place. Her job is in King Tolero’s castle. *dramatic music start playing* Also, she has lost something very important to her, and after some chaotic events she needs to start working with Kai. Remember him? He’s one of Fen’s friends.

This is in general the main storyline of this book, I can’t say much because of two reasons number 1 this is a spin off book of the Fae rising trilogy, and number 2 why do I say spoilers if I want you to read it?

So, let’s talk about my opinion, LOVE this book, love the characters, the plot, the world. This book has everything, intrigues, action, star crossed love, amazing characters, a Hydra named Dory. I love the way Miranda tells us Lyra’s story. She is wonderful, she is strong and badass, and she has quite an opinion about males. I love her, she is fearless and powerful.

On the other side we have Kai, I love him too, since Chaos and Destiny. He is a trained warrior with a soft and kind heart, but I can’t say much about him because of spoilers. The point here is that Lyra and Kai are a hell of a couple, alone they’re amazing, but together are an explosion.

This book destroyed me because it is so beautiful, I almost cried, but at the end, my head was empty, no thoughts, only Lyra and Kai being them. Go read this book, and also Fae Rising, you wont regret it.
5/5 for this baby.

Thank you Miranda for this Arc. Let me just say if you have not read the original trilogy of the Fae Rising series I recommend you do so. This book series will always share a special part in my heart. These characters I love so so much.

Starting out, this book is easily one of the best Miranda has ever created. The world building is so expansive and the characters are so diverse. It is action packed and full of love and the occasional heartbreak. This book was so real it hurt. This book though was very much about dealing with your own insecurities as well as dealing with your past. And dealing with loss. This book is like a love letter to those we have lost as well as a letter to us to how to move forward stronger. We must not forget our past and what brought us to where we are now but rather keep moving forward stronger. We are who we are because of our past and we are stronger for it. So I definitely encourage you through some of the heartbreak of this book KEEP ON READING. It is so worth it to reach the end of the story.

I am so thankful to Miranda for this opportunity to be on your street team and early read this book as well as some of your others. I’m so thankful for you as an author as well as a friend. I am very excited about what stories come next. #funmarinefactoftheday #bringherback

✨Book Review✨
………………………………………………………………….
“I don’t know who I am anymore. I’m not this person. Who cries. Who stands hugging her friend in the street. I have walls. Loads of walls. I just can’t find the strength to hold them up.”
“Then let them fall.” She rubbed my back as her voice broke. “It’s okay to be vulnerable.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Synopsis:
.
Stealing a prized jewel is nothing compared to a heart.
~
Raised to be the perfect thief, Lyra is not above using her body or her siren's song to take exactly what she wants, when she wants it.
~
But when she is attacked and her song is stolen, there’s only one fae that can help her. The fae she’d sworn to stay far away from. Now, she must find a way to win over the commander of the Flame Court, even if it means sacrificing everything she’s ever learned about being a siren.
~
She thinks she can fool him, fool them all. But really, she is only fooling herself.
______________________________________
This book was….in a word, spectacular.
~
This runs parallel to Fate & Flame the final book in @authormirandalyn s Fae arising Trilogy, up until around chapter 25 and then detours into new timelines.
~
Listen, I KNEW what was going to happen at some point in this book and it still DEVASTATED me. I was so broken. It truly hurt. But GOOOOOOOD did she make up for it by the end of the story.
It was perfection.
✔️ Sassy main character
✔️ Love
✔️ Ruin
✔️ Soul searching
~
Also shoutout to the most beautiful dedication I’ve seen in a very long time!!
Well done Miranda. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Such an amazing story, it’s a standalone spin off of Fae rising series. I adore the series and this spin off was mind blowing, introducing a character Lyra who is strong willed siren. I didn't like sirens, but after reading about her and how Kai comes into picture and all the sweet, spicy, fierce chemistry they have made me fall in love with sirens.

I wanted to cry while reading fae rising but I literally cried while reading Tides and Ruin, it’s on that emotional level. It is heart wrenching but you'll love it. The story of Lyra is perfect to show how a strong women can rise from seeing the downward side and with all the struggles she faces, from losing her song, betrayal by her father, sold to a leech, separation from her mate, she becomes a women of strength and values.

Kai was so secretive of his emotions, always hiding behind a great smile. And knowing why he did that, made me love his character more. Well all the characters were passionate about each other, family by choice, having unique traits makes them more admirable.
The ending is joyful no doubt but the hollowness created in my heart by the story will take time to fill. It’s one the best series I have ever read.

Miranda please bring her back.

A huge thank you to the author for letting me read this book and I voluntarily give this my honest review.

Since I didn't read the Fae Rising series, I was afraid I wouldn't understand some things that I should have known. After reading this I really wish I could read the Fae Rising series because I would have love to know about other characters that frequently showed up in this story!

It took me a while to really get hooked into the story because everything is slightly scattered. But, when the main characters, Lyra and Kai met everything started to get a lot more interesting and the plot is easier to follow.
The character development on Lyra is beautifully written and I could feel her emotions in this story. The anger, the sadness and happiness of finding love and being betrayed makes her a stronger person at the end of this book which one of the thing I love the most when reading this book.

Overall, this is an enjoyable read and a breath of fresh air after reading so many mystery thriller books. With loveable characters, great character development, mythical sea creatures and full of actions as well as heart breaking moments makes putting down this book is so hard to do!
I'm looking forward to read the Fae Rising series and other future books coming!

Tides and Ruin is a story unlike any other. While technically a “spin-off” I feel like its a strong enough book that it can be read even without reading the Fae Rising Series first. In this story you’ll find action, betrayal, seduction, scheming, love, depression, and hope. There wasn’t a moment where I felt the story slowed or failed to draw me. The main character Lyra, who’s half Fae half Siren, is a person who is flawed just as we are. Which makes her so undeniably relatable as she navigates the challenges thrown her way both from within herself and from people close to her. The development of her character was done so well, as I saw her try to overcome her struggles I wanted to take her own advice and remind myself that putting one foot in front of the other is sometimes all it takes. I could rant and rave about the other characters who helped make this book amazing, like Kai, who’s such a interesting and truly endearing character. He needs to be protected at all costs lol but I’ll save those details for when you actually read the book and discover the characters yourself. 10/10 would recommend this book and wish I could go back in time and read it all over again!

This is the first ARC I’ve been lucky enough to receive. This is a spin-off of Miranda Lyn’s Fae Rising series, which I have not previously read. I was warned that while this book is a stand alone novel, it will contain spoilers to the main series if read first. However, I did not find the story at all difficult to follow having not read the other books first and in fact am just intrigued to get to know more about the side characters here that I imagine are the main characters there.

This book follows Lyra, a half fae half siren who learns there’s more important things in life than being a seductive thief. While this is a romance (Kai *swoon*)it is much more than that. Calling this a romance novel wouldn’t do the story justice. This is a story of growth and acceptance and love and I would have finished it so much faster if I didn’t have responsibilities like work and eating and sleeping, it’s that good.

Plus, how often do we get stories that really take place in the ocean with sea fae? It’s a setting I’m so drawn to but almost never see. This book scratched that itch for me in a lovely way.

I would highly recommend this one, and now I’m off to go read the main series!

Oof I did not like this book. At all. Here are my reading notes as I’m too lazy to write a coherent review at the moment:

- Why can I only picture SpongeBob when these people were Talking regularly while undersea lmao
- God I hate Khai. What a stupid MC love interest. Didn’t feel like a love interest AT ALL and I kept waiting for him to enter.
- How do land dwellers become mermaids? And why are they called that if they can breathe undersea anyways??
- A bunch of horny teens in high school.
- Didn’t really go with urgency to find her stolen song. Seems like afterthought. And why is she even lying about losing her so g anyways? WHAT IS THE POINT.
- I don’t even know who side characters are they seem to blur.
- God I hate Khai such an aloof bafoon.
- Did friend setup Fc?? Yes she did. But fc is dumb.
- So much misogyny my god.
- Why would she save her father when he said in no uncertain terms he hates you. Like what.
- Seriously how do these two like each other. There’s no chemistry at all.
- This plot makes no sense and is so weak like what.

And I’m done.

Thank you Literary Bound Tours, who sent me this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book! It was just what I wanted and needed - I have really been getting in to sea/mermaid/siren books recently and been wanting to read more of them and Tides and Ruin is perfect for that. I found it really easy to get in to the story and characters and found it difficult to put down at times! I also really enjoyed the romance and more steamy scenes - there were quite a few to enjoy.
There were lots of twists and turns that I wasn't expecting and it kept me gripped throughout the story.
I love that it is a standalone as I generally prefer them, but also love the characters and am not yet ready to let them and the world go - I definitely want to give Fae Rising a go, too! If you do think you'd also like to read the trilogy, I would recommend doing that first as Tides & Ruin does spoil aspects of Fae Rising.
