Shrill Dusk Between plagues of rats, firestorms and the gleaming blue eyes of a sexy Scottish werewolf, Charley might just have landed herself in the middle of a magical apocalypse. She might also be the only person who has the ability to bring order to an utterly chaotic new world.
Brittle Midnight Charley is under pressure. The demands of her new community are piling on stress after stress and, even with her developing magical skills, she's finding it hard to cope. Things aren't any better for Monroe - his grief and guilt over what happened to his werewolf pack are overwhelming him. When dead bodies start to appear across the city, they're going to have to work together to prevent more killings. But whether they'll be able to survive together too is anyone's guess.
Furtive Dawn It's been almost a year since the magical apocalypse closed off the city of Manchester from the rest of the world. The vampires, werewolves and humans within the city all now live together in relative harmony ... but trouble is brewing on the horizon.
This series is a sequel to the Fractured Faery story. It starts around the last 24 hours of that final book and covers the first days after the events in the first book. The main character is Charley, the blue-haired cleaner who kept a magical object for a little while. She is trying to manage the new situation in Manchester. Monroe, the werewolf has survived and returns to Charley. He tries to help, too. In the second book, they face all kind of stress after having felt responsible for a couple of months. In the third book, the new community has learnt to deal with day-to-day business and they are ready to face new challenges. The story is about how to cope if everything we rely on changes all of a sudden. It has the typical topics: thrill, love, every day problems. I enjoyed reading it very much. It engaged my own fantasy (what will happen next, what's the ulterior motiv of xy, what would I do if ...). I totally see myself reading this series again and it goes without saying that I will read the Fractured Faery series beforehand.
This series continues in the aftermath of the Faeries return to Mag Mar, so although it can be read on its own, it will make more sense if you read the other series first. That having been said....
What would you do if you were a professional gambler/ cleaner who suddenly found she had magic? What would you do if you discovered that the others in your quarantined city were also developing magical abilities? And how would you protect your budding community from threats from both the inside and outside? Join Charley the Enchantress and her boyfriend Monroe the werewolf to find out.
So after reading Helen's new series about a detective and her vampire beau, I wanted to check out more of her books. This one unfortunately I DNFed. There were some grammar errors that kept popping out at me. The main character wasn't relatable. It felt more of a tell than show and I couldn't understand her motivations. All she did was save and save people and nothing was happening in the 200 pages that I read. I tried to push myself to read it but I can't.
I’m a massive Helen Harper fan but this series is a little flat. It didn’t help that it’s absolutely littered with typos, spelling and grammar issues. It’s a fun read but predictable and lacking in areas. The characters could have had a bit more meat to the bones and the back stories could have been built on more. It’s a bit rushed at times and the ending was underwhelming.
I have been devouring Helen Harper's books the last couple weeks. They are absolute perfection. Every book is filled with interesting characters, unexpected original storylines and a dash of romance. This series was no exception. I highly recommend reading the Fractured Faery series first before this one. Thank you Ms. Harper for another fantastic 5 star read!
Only just discovered Helen. Embarrassed that my own books seem to take decades, and she whips these out in months! But they are good, well thought plots and characters, and original story lines.
These were good. A sort of sequel to Fractured Faery—picks up in Manchester after the faeries leave. Manchester has been completely isolated, so sort of post-apocalypse. Better than their predecessors!
This trilogy is a really good read, I could barely put it down, the main characters and concept are fantastic, there are a few grammatical errors in book 2 and 3, but that didn't distract it from being a great story.
Amazing 3 book series!! I absolutely loved it. It kept me intrigued, how can a city fend for itself after a total magic disaster happens? Read and find out!!
