The Boy in the Forest

Rate this book
he haunting trees lead me astray, a liar’s tongue that I hear play.

Avery has a dangerous secret.

He pretends to be this perfect angel, but he regularly sneaks into the town’s forbidden forest.

I’m the only one who knows, and I paid for it the night I followed him inside. There’s a reason the forest is forbidden. Ghost wolf, anyone?

Don’t worry. I survived. But I’m more confused than ever, and Avery isn’t forthcoming.

What’s it going to take to get him to talk?

These books were decent. I love the cover designs. The author did a good job of making the reader feel like they were in the story. It would have been better for the MC to have had more anger and resentment towards her ex, though. The conclusion was just OK, it could have been more satisfying. If the stories were more complex , these could have been full length books.

I am unbelievably disappointed by what's in the forest...
The cliffhanger in the first book, The Girl in the Garden, meant I had to read the sequel. Now I'm just frustrated. This could've been a five-star book, IMO, if the forest mystery had played out differently.
Outside of that, the writing isn't my favorite, but it isn't as terrible as the first few chapters of book one (when I almost DNF'd).
The emotional development and redemption arc of the FMC is well done, and I greatly enjoyed seeing her grow. The MMC was pretty static, though. Not that he truly needed to do anything other than exist, but still. It might have been more interesting if he had some flaws as well.
The duology is worth your time if you're okay with the mother of all cliffhangers in book one and some angst at the end of book two.

A VERY HONEST OPINION “SPOILER” MAYBE?? Ok I started the book 3 hours ago just finished it. Absolutely a fantastic read. loved the little loops the aurthur throws at you to mess with your emotions. She may do a little to much tho lmao sadly the end makes me want to double knot a rope around my neck and jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. JUST KIDDING!! the ending could have been more “romantic” than it was and it kinda leaves the reader feeling a little empty inside because of the abrupt ending. But all in all the entire 2 book series kept me glued to the pages. I finished both books in about 7-8 hours of total read time enjoyed it all and definitely recommend. You can read the first book for free on iPhones bookstore thingie.

Definitely much better than the first one. In a way it made me depressed for not being able to experience a story as beautiful as that 😩 Ri’s growth is incredible, I don’t find it forced or accelerated. The ending made me sad, I would love to see them together again. I would even read everything without hesitation from Avery’s perspective. The development of the characters and the story is simply fascinating.

Better than the first one. Don’t love the writing but it was a nice story. Left me wanting more tbh. More with the story of the woods, and between Avery and Ri. Good short reads though

Same as what most people are saying. Very easy to read, standard writing, good characters, and a nice book to take a break from using too much of your brainpower to read. Same for the other book in the series since it was a short story that could’ve been combined into one.

Second book was way better than the first and there was an actual ending for this one.
