I’ve always been a huge fan of Holly Tucker and throughout lockdown her Conversations of Inspiration podcast and Instagram lives kept me motivated to keep going with my own business.
I loved the easy to digest and practical advice in this book. It’s a must-have for any entrepreneur- especially if you run a product based business. Everything you’ve ever felt - as a business owner…Holly has felt too, which makes you feel empowered. It’s like having a coaching session with Holly herself and I know I will refer back to it a lot in the future.
I just bought a physical copy to keep on my desk in times of need! ❤️
I have been a fan of Holly Tucker for years so knew I had to read this book. It is a business and self-help book all in one, and takes (as Holly calls it) the ‘grey’ out of the business world. As a small business pioneer Holly knows exactly what works and not only tells you what she has done but provides sections of ‘Holly’s hacks’ throughout with active participation you can take away and do yourself. My favourite part was the small business products alongside the text, and I was always excited to see what product was coming next. I highly recommend buying the physical book to enjoy these images, and I for sure will be referring back to it as I folded down many pages!
A lovely feel good small business hype book. It covers in brief a wide range of topics crucial to running a small business, from building a team to finances, coping with failure to recognising success.
It successfully hypes the reader up into feeling focused, kinder to yourself and positive about the future. By the end of the book you’ll have rediscovered your can do attitude!
It is also punctuated throughout with beautiful photography of small business products.
A good book for small business newbies or someone who’s lost their small business spark (you can do it!).
Whilst it has a dozen or so helpful one line takeaways - small activities to try or things go away and google - I feel it falls down a bit in the same way many small business ‘guides’ do: it isn’t a ‘how to’. There are powerful sections on what must be done (nailing your finances! Branding is everything!) but not a step by step how. Of course no two businesses are the same so there is no generic process, but a little more guidance would be magic.
In addition (and I may have the wrong impression of Holly as I don’t know much about her) I feel a lot of successful business people are talking about mental health, balance and avoiding burnout... in the same sentence that illustrates they burnt themselves out achieving the very success that led them to write a book... Where is a book from someone who didn’t burn out, who worked 10-3pm three days a week, surfed every Thursday, learnt to bake artisanal breads and achieved the same level of success? Plus, of course, detailing exactly how they did it in a numbered list ;) it seems burnout is a rite of passage.
Maybe it was not the right time for me to read this one, but I somehow felt like it was mieh. I mean, it’s a very encouraging book but I kinda knew almost anything in it, I felt like they were all some kind of generic truths. There wasn’t a new info in there that I found enlightening regarding making a business, it was only for the theoretical part to encourage you and convince you to do not hesitate and go for it no matter what. Which is great if you need this push ✨
Don’t get me wrong, It’s a very inspiring and encouraging read and it will give you hope and push you to follow your dreams etc, but maybe it was not the right time for me.
Great advice from the woman who started 'Not On The High Street' for anyone who is contemplating starting their own business. Plenty of information, some relevant, some not so much. Overall a positive read with lots of encouragement from a highly reliable source.
It was such an amazing, inspiring and positive book! It’s like your own cheerleader in a form of a book who says how it is - running a business is hard work but oh so, so rewarding.
Really enjoyed the read but covered most of what I already knew. Great one if you'd like to start a business or are looking for some inspiration/motivation.
"Perfect its not what you should aim for, as it has never led to guaranteed success. Getting it done, on the other hand, gives you a much better chance."
