I’ve read one book in the Talon Series and one book in the Redwood Series so believe me when I say this can be read as a complete standalone, and a big reason for that is we have the next generation! So Cool!
Kaylee is sent down south to find a missing pack mate and certain things come to light while she is there, first off she tracked down more than just her missing pack mate, she tracked down her fated mate! Jason is with the Starlight Pack, but he's not a pack member - he's more of a friend of the pack since he's human and not a shifter, he's a scientist and is helping them figure out what is killing wolves, witches, and some humans in the area. So lets just say the first time Jason and Kaylee meet didn't put him in the best light.
I loved how Kaylee's wolf knew exactly who Jason was even though he was found in a compromising position. I also loved the way they were so protective of one another right away even before they realized what was happening. This story has a lot going on and I cannot wait to see what happens next for Jason and Kaylee and the other members of each of the packs.
I would recommend this book to those that enjoy Steamy Paranormal Romances.
Mated in Darkness features Hannah, Reed, & Josh’s daughter & Redwood tracker Kaylee. Kaylee is sent to look for missing loner pack member, Spencer, near the Starlight Pack where Spencer hailed from. Kaylee finds Spencer but stumbles upon bigger things like Rogue wolves aren’t just voluntarily going rogue and there are lingering issues from the Great War. Through her journey, also discovers a potential mate in her tracking, human and Starlight associate Jason. Jason has not been privy to all things Pack, but he is trying his best to help. Unfortunately being human in a paranormal world has its pitfalls and Kaylee is forced to make important decisions about fated mates. There is so much happening in this great continuation of the Redwood & Talon series including lots of updates & appearances from previous characters! 4.5/5 Stars
I adored this story! I think any story for the Redwood Pack is like coming home, it was the first, so it has a comfort about it. Not that there was anything comforting about the story. Nope, there are disappearances and rogues to investigate; If that seems like a bad time to find a mate, well, that is par for the course in this story. This is fast paced, just the right amount of twists to keep it interesting, not confusing, and a whole lot of attraction and steam. We also get to spend some time with a new pack, and their alpha is going to be a lot of fun when his turn comes around 😊
5 MATED IN DARKNESS STARS!! Another great story in the Talon Pack series. I was grasping at every page through this Book. This author is phenomenal and this story is no different.
Book 10 Talon Pack by Carrie Ann Ryan Kaylee is a Jamenson and Redwood pack tracker, she goes in search of a member that’s gone rogue and missing. Jason is a human scientist who is working with the Starlight pack trying to figure out what’s turning wolves into rogues. I love that Jason is human to start off with in this book and a relationship very quickly I love how the Talon and the Redwood packs in to have completely merged now even though they still see in a separate packed their interlinked so much between me and couples that they are found like one but with different offers I do love the big family feel about it. Carrie Ann Ryan always picks the best narrators for her books and it just approved it so much absolutely love listening to all her audiobooks even the contemporary and the shifter series highly recommend all of them.
Fated in Winter (short story and end of book) This is a short story that’s at the end of the audiobook still with the same narrators and it’s about Connor Kayleigh’s twin and how he meets his mate. Again it’s a Talon and Redwood crossover absolutely love the way it develops Connor as a character and introduces Romy look forward to more
I did not want this book to end. It did solve some of the mystery but there will be more in future books. YAY!! This story revolved around Kaylee who was a tracker looking for a lost packmate. She meets a human - Jason and her wolf if very attracted. They work together to find who is killing wolves and witches but run into major trouble. I liked Jason's attitude for whatever gets thrown his way and it's a lot! It will be interesting to see how this couple evolves. It was so nice to get to visit with old friends from the Redwood pack and the Stasrlight pack where she met Jason. There are more packs we get to learn about. The Starlight Pack has some very interesting men in it. Riaz seems to have hidden depths. More I'm sure to come. A wonderful paranormal from Carrie Ann Ryan again. I received this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review
We’re back in the world of Carrie Ann Ryan’s wolves and it’s one of my favorite worlds 😍 Her shifters have always been my favorites, and I was beyond ecstatic to see we were jumping back in. Fate, mates, twists and trouble, what more could you want? Ah, right, love ❤️ And of course, you get it all. Can’t wait for more. Always more.
Mated in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan is part of the Talon Pack series and the first I have read. I enjoyed the story and did not feel lost but am very excited to go back and start the series from the beginning!
Here we have Kaylee who is sent to investigate the disappearance of a packmate and she meets Jason, who she is very attracted too. Together they try to find out what is going on. I loved their chemistry and connection right from the start. The suspense of what was going on added to the story and I was captivated from start to finish. I am so excited to read more from this and other related books in the series.
Happy reading!

Audiobook review:
I recently had the opportunity to listen to Mated in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan, which is part of the Talon Pack series. Narrated by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann, I enjoyed listening to the story and did not feel lost but am very excited to go back and start the series from the beginning!
Here we have Kaylee who is sent to investigate the disappearance of a packmate and she meets Jason, who she is very attracted too. Together they try to find out what is going on. Kaylee is a tracker for the Redwood pack. She is sent to find a missing packmate that may have gone rogue. What she doesn't expect to find, is James, a human scientist working with the Starlight Pack to figure out what is causing wolves to go rogue. They are instantly attracted to each other and the more time they spend together, Kaylee believes she has found her human mate. In order to save James when he is severely hurt, Kaylee must make the decision to complete the mating bond by marking him which ultimately turns him from human to wolf shifter.
Kaylee and James weren't looking for their HEA, but they found it together! For audio, great narration by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann.
In the author’s newsletter, she said a reader could read this book first, even if you hadn’t read any of the previous books in the series. So that’s what I did.
The first several chapters are nothing but a huge info dump. There’s no way I was going to remember all the names and back story that was fed to me during those chapters. It would’ve been better to give me that info as it came up in the story.
The rest of the book read as if the author had only tried to get words on the page to meet a certain word count. There was a ton of internal retrospection that got to be ridiculously repetitive. The thoughts and dialogue just said the same things over and over. They’d talk about how to make things work later after they’d done what they needed to do. Over and over.
There was hardly any description of settings, and sometimes the characters would be in one place in one paragraph and move to a new, but close, place in the next paragraph without any transition.
I gave the whole book a chance to redeem itself and it just never did.
My review is written voluntarily after listening to the audio version of these books
What a bonus two books together here each book is about one of the siblings in a set of twins, Kaylee and Connor Jameson both are strong and dominant wolves who share a very strong twin bond who both find their mates in different parts of the country at the same time.
Mated in Darkness - Kaylee's a tracker assigned by her uncle the Alpha to find a missing wolf, a wolf not born into their pack but one who had joined them. Kaylee has an uncanny ability when it comes to finding/tracking, she seems to just know where to look, she feels he may be back in the area of his former pack the Starlight. She travels to the Starlight pack's territory and finds the missing wolf but she's too late he's dead and there's a human standing over his still bleeding body. Jason the human in question is a geneticist and friend of the Starlight pack. For some time he's been trying to find out what has been causing the black death that is killing not only wolves but witches and humans too. Kaylee recognises from her first contact with him that he didn't kill the man and that he's her potential mate, but how can that be he's human? Despite the mutual attraction felt by Jason and Kaylee they decide to solve the problem of who/what is causing the deaths before taking their relationship to the next level.
But then Jason is attacked and is close to death's door the only way to save his life is to turn him, but they hadn't discussed it, would he want to be a wolf? Kaylee has moments to decide whether to mate him and let the alpha of the Starlight pack turn him or let him die. She decides that she can't bear to lose her mate and so she marks him and the alpha turns him.
Jason survives the turning, something that isn't always successful, and together they discover the secret of what the black death is but not who is behind it. Jason and she then return to the Redwood pack knowing that there is still more work to do but they will do it together,
Fated in Winter - Connor is a wolf on the edge, he fears he's close to turning rogue as so many wolves seem to be at the moment. Whilst out tracking a wolf on the point of going rogue and hoping to prevent it he literally falls off the side of the mountain and would surely have died if a female wolf, Romey hadn't caught on to him and saved his life. Romey belongs to the Talon Pack a pack with close links to the Redwood Pack. She's close to 100 years old and lives alone in a house in the woods made from the debris of her old family home, a home that was destroyed during the wars when all her family were killed.
Both she and Connor feel a connection but both agree that they will not mark each other until they get to know each other, but their wolves are having non of that and as they are making love the bond snaps into place without a mating bite! Obviously, the Moon Goddess wasn't taking any chances, knowing that even though they don't know each other they belong together they complete their mating.
They also manage to save the wolf Connor had been tracking and return him to his family all whilst working together to plan a joint Yule Celebration for both their packs.
The narration of this book and the bonus novella is beautifully done by Aiden Snow and Kit Swann, they brought each character to life wonderfully well.
Kaylee is in the middle of tracking one of her lost Redwood pack mates and is blindsided when she comes across Jason; a man that could be her mate. Kaylee does not have time for what this could mean. As she works with the Starlight pack to try and find her lost packmate she must work with Jason. Soon an enemy rears its head and Kaylee and Jason are in their sites. Circumstances take things out of their control and Kaylee and Jason’s choices are taken away from them.
It was nice to see the two work through everything and find their way. Both Kaylee and Jason are strong characters, and I was quickly pulled into their story. As the two work to find their common enemy they must also work to deal with their attraction. As much as I liked their story, I did find Kaylee’s constant questioning and worrying about mating to be an annoying trait. Kaylee begins to sound like a child the longer this goes on. Their adventure made for a nice listen.
Included in this audio book was Fated in Winter. Conner and Romy’s story. Both Conner and Romy have kept themselves on the outside of their packs. When they are thrown together to plan a festival. Soon the two realize that their attraction can only mean one thing. As the two work on the festival, they must figure out their mating. Conner and Romy’s story is a sweet listen. The two soon find that they are worth so much more than they ever thought. Although I enjoyed their story, I did find the constant questioning about mating annoying. While it is an interesting plot it seems to be overdone in both Mated in Darkness and Fated in Winter. Narrators Aiden Snow and Kit Swann do a good job of bringing the emotions out and the characters to life.
Kaylee is a tracker for the Redwood Pack. There have been way too many rogue wolves and it is Kaylee and her twin Conner’s job to track them down before they can cause any harm to humans. When one of their own goes missing Kaylee is sent to Texas where his family lives to see if she can locate him. She does find him but unfortunately it is after he has just been killed. She finds a human standing over him and attacks him, assuming he was the one to kill him. Jason is shocked when he is attacked by a wolf, but he knows better than to fight. When the two hunters from the local pack identify him as a friend to the pack, she lets him go. Turns out he is a geneticist that is working with the pack to try and find out why so many wolves are going rouge but also to find out what is causing a black blood cancer that is causing Black Death. She is unaware of the Black Death threat because the Alpha of the Texas pack has been trying to keep it quiet until they can figure out what it is. She vows to keep an eye on Jason because she doesn’t trust him. Her wolf on the other hand thinks he is their mate. Kaylee is not happy because this is a terrible time to find a mate! Thus begins their journey of love!
This was a fantastic book! It carries on from some of the previous book about the Redwood Pack, but it is not necessary to have read those to understand or enjoy the book. I can’t wait for the next one in the series!
I was so beyond excited when Carrie Ann Ryan decided to come back to this series again! The Redwoods are the series that introduced me to her, and I still absolutely love these books! I would definitely recommend reading some of the previous books so you understand some of the things they talk about that happened in the past, but you will still perfectly understand even if you don't. Now mind you, I love those books though so it would be a great read! In this one, we have the next generation coming into their own and getting their HEA! IN this one we get Kaylee's story. Kaylee is sent on a mission to find a missing wolf for her pack. Rogue's are on the rise and they all fear not only that this wolf has gone rogue but also that something even more dangerous is on the way. What she wasn't expecting was to meet her mate while tracking their lost wolf. Jason is affiliated with the Starlight pack, in a way to try to help them. I loved how these two are right from the start. And how they treat each other and feel for each other. I loved seeing previous characters that we know and love, but also being introduced to new characters. Especially the Alpha of the new pack that was introduced! I wouldn't mind seeing a story for him! But most of all, as a lover of this whole series-I loved that even though it has been a while since anything was written in it, it still has that same feel and sucked me in right from the start! I can't wait to read more in it!!
Carrie Ann Ryan joins the Redwoods and the Talon packs with Mated in Darkness.
Kaylee is a fighter, a warrior. She has seen and lived through the worst of the worst, lived through ugly wars and lost some close to her. She is the best of the best when it comes to tracking. The woman is pure strength and courage. She knows what she has to do when fate steps in and throws her on massive curveball.
Jason is a human who understands that there are things in the world that most people don’t realize. He’s a friend of the pack but not Privy to everything that is the pack. He does all that he can to try to help. Jason is definitely on the geeky side, but under his cover we do find a few alpha tendencies lurking.
Talk about opposites attract. Kaylee’s wolf knew and was not going to let her see it any other way. Jason, in a world of the unknown, shows his strength and loyalty. It’s like the bonded with one another almost instantly, even if things were not ideal. Decisions have to be made, emotions are felt and passion is explosive. Mated in Darkness is not just a read, it’s a ride. Carrie Ann Ryan keeps readers turning the pages with a fast paced and twisty story filled with a lot of emotions, passion and heat. Even if you have never read this series before you can jump right in and the ride that is Mated in Darkness!
I generally am not a fan of the paranormal/shape shifter reads but this was a pretty good book. I have read a few books from this series but not many and I can say with much relief that this can be read as a standalone read as it wasn't too confusing as to what is going on as well as the intertwining relationships between the characters.
In this book, we meet Kaylee and Jason. Kaylee is a tracker and enforcer for the Redwood pack who is trying to find one of her pack mates that has disappeared. She goes to the Starlight pack where she find more rogue wolves that appear plagued but instead were victims of the serum that they believed was destroyed. While searching, she finds her mate when she least expected it but was left with some doubts.
Jason, a scientist working with the Starlight pack looking for the cause of the rogue wolves and the illness that they appear to be suffering from. He is unexpectedly is turned to wolf as a means to save his life while finding his mate in Kaylee.
The chemistry between the pair was off the charts and in this action packed read there were a few twists that I did not expect. In the end, I was left wondering what is in store for this series next and I look forward to seeing it as well.
The Talon Pack is Back Baby!!! Yay! I loved this series and this book hit the ground running. Loved Kaylee's story and the way I just slipped straight back into the Talon Pack. Kaylee is a sent to find out where one of her packmates has gone. So she goes to the Starlight Pack and there has help from Riaz (pack Alpha) and Jason - human scientist.... Yeah she's very very wary at first (can't say I blame her with the Talon Pack past) but her and her wolf will not be denied, Jason is her Mate but she needs to find what has happened to her packmate. Jason is a good human and a friend of the Starlight Pack so he knows about the wolves and wants to help them find out what's happening with the Rogues. Of course love isn't smooth and something bad happens, Jason keeps true to his nature though and of course loves Kaylee and wants to help her and the wolves stop all Rogues. Loved the interaction with both Kaylee and Jason and the rest of the Starlight Pack. Seems the Talon Pack has found new friends and allies in this pack, I cannot wait to find out what happens next in the wolves Rogue problems. Love the fact that the Talon Pack is back! Awoooo!!!
Kaylee Jamenson is the tracker for the Redwood Pack and is sent to Texas by the alphas of the Redwood and Talon Packs to find a pack mate, Spencer, who has gone missing. Kaylee. Kaylee finds more than she bargained for in Texas. Kaylee finds her mate, Jason Torres. Jason is a human scientist who is working with the Starlight Pack to discover who is killing wolves, witches, and some humans. How will Jason react when Kaylee is forced mark him as her mate to save his life? Can Kaylee and Jason with the help of the Starlight Pack discover what happened to Spencer? Will Kaylee and Jason be left with more questions than answers concerning the danger that is coming after the packs? I really enjoyed Mated in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan. Kaylee and Jason are a great couple who have great chemistry and always have each other's back. It was great seeing some characters from the Redwood Pack. Mated in Darkness has rogues, danger, fated mates, a new pack, and unanswered questions. I would definitely recommend getting Mated in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Love the Talon Pack! Kaylee Jamenson is a tracker for the Redwood Pack and she knows her what is expected of her. She has lived through wars and the loss of friends and family, but nothing has prepared her for the curve ball that fate has thrown her way. She gets her special ability from one of her fathers, part of the famous triad, and knows she is the only person to find their missing packmate, regardless of what her over protective twin thinks. She has thought about finding her mate, but now her only focus is on finding the missing wolf. As she gets closer to finding him she and the Starlight Pack finds there is more going on than anyone realizes. That would be bad enough, but the geeky, sexy, very human Jason does something to her no man or wolf ever has. Their connection is instant and their chemistry is off the charts, but she is hesitant. They can only resist each other for so long and now she must make a decision that will change their lives forever. Love their story and the over arcing story of the danger that is coming for all the packs. I can't wait for more!!
The Talon Pack is back.. Those that know me know how much I love Carrie Ann Ryan , and that the very first Paranormal Romance I read was from her, The Talons Pack is my favorite series She took sometime off from this world to write some other great stories that I also enjoy. I was so excited when I heard that We we're getting more Talons I screamed for joy. What a fabulous day it was to revisit, it was great home coming, revisiting and getting reaquainted with them , I missed these wolves that I feel like are my best friends. To me this world that Carrie created is much more than a Paranormal Romance. They are family friends and fighting and defending who they love, and for what is right. Carrie is definitely a must read and a one click author for me because I tell she has put her heart and soul on every word, cause even when I have tears when reading I have a smile on my face. Definitely recommend definitely must read. #ireadromancetoescape
This new book takes us back to the Shifter World of the Talon and Redwood packs, and it is great to revisit the characters we remember from previous stories, but also get to know the next generation.
This story is as action packed as ever, and also has the expected romance and chemistry from a Carrie Ann Ryan book. The attraction between the characters is strong and engaging, and the adventure in storyline is gripping.
Kaylee has a job to do, as a tracker seeking a lost pack mate, and she does expect to meet her mate - a human - in the process. Jason, whilst human, isn't totally uninitiated as he is a friend of the local pack, but he isn't ready for what is to come.
An exciting and compelling story.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Yippie!! Finally we get to return to the Redwood and Talon Packs! I was really excited about this romance, and reconnecting with this particular fictional world was amazing! Kaylee is a wonderful, strong heroine. I loved that she found love in an unexpected, but very deserving person and unexpected place. As always in these stories, there’s mystery and danger, fast-paced action scenes that pull you into the story just as much as the thrilling romantic developments. I really enjoyed the way the mating-part of the story was written and how Kaylee and her mate fall in love. Their emotional connection is very strong and convincingly built up. Curious to see what’s next and hope for more glimpses of the older generations as well in further stories.
So great to be back in the Talon/Redwood shifter world! I love it when authors write the next generation of beloved characters, since I never want to let them go. Kaylee and Jason are such a great pairing…shifter tracker and human scientist, both working towards the same goals. Jason was more likable, for me at least, but Kaylee did grow on me. Their chemistry is electric and exciting. And the plot behind Kaylee’s missing pack member and Jason’s research was intriguing as well as action packed. I’ll admit that I haven’t kept up with this series as much as Ryan’s Ink books, but I had no issues catching up on any pertinent info I might have missed out on. New readers can jump right in, but definitely go back and start from the beginning as this is one of my favorite PNR series.
A perfect time of year to read a shifter book. I haven’t read any of the previous Talon series so there were some things in the storyline that were missing. It didn’t detract from the plot however. Kaylee, an enforcer from the Redwood pack has travelled to Texas to find a missing pack mate. While there, she finds more than she was looking for when she meets Jason, a human geneticist. The story revolving around Kaylee and Jason was good. It was fun seeing nerdy Jason start to embrace his more alpha tendencies. The spice level was hot between them. My only complaint is some of the dialogue felt forced. I couldn’t see people talking that way in every day life.
I am so happy to get back into Carrie Anne’s shifter series. I have not read any of the Talon pack series so far, and I never felt lost as I read this installment.
Kaylee is the daughter of one of my favorite triads, Hanna, Reed and Josh from the Redwood Pack. She’s a tracker and as she goes about tracking a lost packmate, she unexpectedly finds her mate, her human mate.
There is so much going on in the story, that I don’t to get too much into it as it might contain spoilers. I read it almost in one sitting, it was fast paced that before I knew it, I was at the last page. I enjoyed revisiting the Redwood Pack, I highly recommend it.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Kaylee was born and raised in the Redwood Pack and her skills at tracking are second to none so when one of their own is missing she is on a mission to bring him home. Her search leads her to the Starlight Pack where it not only changes the mission, but it also brings her mate into her life.
Jason is a human with an intellectual knowledge of genes who has become close to the Starlight Pack which are being threatened by an unknown force. As they work together to uncover the truth between his knowledge and her ability to protect, they become an unlikely but perfect match.
Kaylee and Jason take us on adventure filled with intrigue and romance as their actions not only help other but also bring what they have both been missing in their lives which is each other.
Mated in Darkness by Carrie Ann Ryan is the tenth in her Talon Pack series. Redwood Pack Tracker Kaylee Jamenson goes to locate a missing pack member because that is what she does. She doesn’t expect geneticist Jason Torres, a human working closely with the Starlight Pack, to be involved in her search, nor does she expect that this heart wrenching search will actually lead to her finding her mate.
Carrie Ann Ryan’s story is exciting and page turning, as she combines Jason and Kaylee’s deepening connection with the equally intense pressure they face to uncover the threat to their personal and pack safety. While this is part of a series, it stands very well alone. A great PNR read.
I love the balance Carrie Ann always brings in her shifter tales. They are always action packed, but the romance has just as much page time. And her writing style draws you into the story. Kaylee and Jason have instant attraction. He might not understand what is happening yet can’t stop the wanting. Kaylee knows what this pull means, but she has a job to do so she tries to resist. For the readers that haven’t read this world before the mythology is explained where needed without feeling clinical or repetitive. Kaylee’s being a second generation Redwood brings a sentimental happiness to my reading of this book. Loved it!
Carrie Ann’s shifter world is complex and immersive. Mated in Darkness is a dip into the stories of the next generation of the Talon Pack saga, bit can be read as a stand alone - just expect a few references to previous happenings that may mean more if you have read the entire series.
I love a geek with grit, so Jason is right up my alley. Kaylee is independent and knows her mind, whilst being fiercely loyal to her family and loved ones. Mated in Darkness is a steamy shifter romance that had me turning page after page.
Full disclosure: I was given an ARC, however this review represents my own honest opinion.
Jason and Kaylee we such an amazing couple. It was so interesting watching them try to fight and understand what the“Mating pull” truly was and how it was affecting them. Especially for Jason he is a scientist he just could not explain any of what was happening to him. Kaylee was just in denial, this couldn’t be happening this wasn’t what he mission was. But fate has a way of getting her way in the end. I love watching their story unfold. They are so good together, complement each other so very well. This was my first book in the Talon series and it won’t be my last. So glad they got their happily ever after.
