This is book four of the EMP Post Apocalyptic Survival series and lets us see a bit more of the people behind the EMP which has taken the whole country back to pre-industrial times, as all power and electricity is gone, as well as everything modern people rely on. No shops with food supplies on every corner and a government and military in chaos. A group calling themselves The New Order are responsible for the EMP strike and all the military style attacks across the country. The supreme leader of the group has formulated their next steps and a lot of it is going to be centred on Ben Riker’s home town of Asheville! Ben just lost some of the people he knew, in an attack by a sniper, and made a shocking discovery about the person who was trying to kill him. It was his own brother Marcus, now going by Mark, who left him when their parents died while Ben was still too young to have been left alone. Mark Riker is the first disciple of The New Order and was nervous to report that he had failed so badly in his secret mission to kill the person who broke into one of their prison work camps. He now has a chance to redeem himself, but can he really kill his own flesh and blood?

Ben has left the safety of the fire training camp to try to ensure the alliance with Colonel Jackson and ask for his protection for his family and the others who his family are trying to keep safe. His wife Liz, daughter Sarah and her birth father Cole, as well as Liz’s sister Rachel and another young woman who has suffered from interactions with the Percy family, called Nancy, are trying to keep everyone working well together. But the Percy family, especially the matriarch Jane, want to take over the running of the camp and their running feud with the Riker clan, comes from years of hate between the two families. Their son Gray was friendly with Nancy, but this soon led to the death of both her parents at his family’s hands, as Ben and his brother lost their parents at a young age, after a drunken car accident caused by Gray’s grandfather, Jane’s husband Lester’s father, who was supposed to still be in prison, but the EMP soon got him out. Jane noticed her brother in law Danny had been missing most days and started to get concerned about what he might be up to. Both Danny and Lester have an absolute fear of their father Buford, even to this day and know he is a cruel and vicious man, who will always have his own plan for what he wants, even whilst pretending to work with others. Whatever deal they may make with Buford, will never bring about anything good, as his sons know well!

Ben and Jackson have to check out the information Ben received from his prisoner Abe, a member of the New Order. It seems the New Order is gathering its forces for another big attack and they have been working on getting some very dangerous weapons back online and usable. Liz thought Ben would be back by now and it seems Jane and her family are ramping up their dissent and looking for opportunities to put the Riker family in a bad light and take control. Ben and Jackson are having to follow the leads they find and pursue the dangerous weapons apparently being prepared for use. They end back up in Asheville, Ben’s home town, which is now a meeting point for a group of the US military, hoping to stop the enemy in its tracks. Unfortunately, the weapons they have been developing and repairing for use, are far superior to that of the army and a sudden attack is overwhelming. Ben and Jackson need to get the piece of equipment they stole, away from the New Order army, but they are facing deadly forces and Ben will once again face his worst nightmare and may not come out of it quite as he did before. Liz meanwhile, is having to deal with more serious problems and soon finds that she has a lot less in the way of people supporting her leadership than she ever would have believed. Both parts of their family are left running for their lives as the worst that could come to bear, has arrived. A pretty sudden and unexpected ending, but you have to presume there is still so much more to come in this series, and I look forward to seeing what comes next. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Does History Always Repeat Itself?

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat always! It made me think of our civil war where families were divided by their choice of North or South.
I recommend this series to anyone who wants a great story to immerse themselves in, BUT, be prepared to go without meals, sleep and anything else you might have planned. Once you start reading, you will not want to put the book down for ANY reason.
Thanks again, Mr. Hunt!

What would you do to keep your family safe. This is the question this family has to face when an EMP blast makes their lives so different and dangerous. What will they face? Will they cope with it all? See how they get on

Great reading I can’t put these books down. So much happening in this one. Found a few mistakes of names but I knew who they were talking about. Maybe get someone to reread to correct. Thanks James

As usual, James writes a good story. This is the continued story of Ben and Liz River after the EMP hit. I do not think I will ever get tired of these types of stories!
My major issue with this book is the misspelling and grammatical errors.

Still a very good story, but, although this is the last book, the story is certainly not finished. Mr. Hunt must still be writing. At least I certainly hope that he is.

conservative beware

Of course the villains were an army of far right conservative American Nazis. Give me a break. Also the spelling and grammar were atrocious
