Sunshine Cove Cozy Mystery #2

Eyebrows and Evil Looks

Rate this book
The second book in a brand new cozy mystery set in South Africa!

Celia welcomes any opportunity that will display her skills as a makeup artist and sell some of her products. She delights in rubbing shoulders with some of the movers and shakers in the small town of Sunny Cove at a charity event she's been invited to. When the organizer of the event, a prim and proper know-it-all, suddenly falls down dead, pandemonium breaks out in the room.

Celia is saddened when her good friend, a local librarian, is identified as a prime suspect as she provided the space for the event.

Celia had minimal contact with the deceased but witnessed her in some 'spicy' altercations with her family and colleagues. Could her rude behaviour be the reason behind her murder or something much more sinister?

Celia has been warned by a local detective in charge of the case not to poke her nose in his murder investigation. But Celia can't help wanting to solve this murder mystery as her friend is in danger of spending time behind bars if she's not exonerated.

Will she find the killer in the nick of time or see an innocent person pay the price for a heinous crime?

If you want to enjoy a light-hearted read, with an amateur female sleuth and a gripping murder mystery with a touch of romance, then you'll love Celia Dube and all the friendly and not-so-friendly characters in Sunny Cove.

No cliffhanger, swearing or graphic scenes!

This is the second in the series and the second I have listened to. I am not listening to them in order. Both deal with deaths due to poisoning.

At the charity fashion show, our victim dies. We find out she has been cutting some shady deals and not paying people.

Other than Cecelia being a nosy-parker, there was no compelling reason for her to be involved in this whodunit. She is reckless and puts herself, family and others in danger. Throughout this story, I had a very hard time believing she could make her quotas for the make-up company she was working for. I am glad I didn’t read this one first or I would not have read/listened to the sixth in the series.

I do like that this is a clean cozy with no graphic gory scenes.

Eyebrows and Evil Looks, unanswered questions.
Why someone with grace, be harmed?

Who's at risk now, without knowing?
There must be something, can do.

One by one eliminatie, until revealed.
Didn't mean to upset, rock boat.

Many may be harmed, who protects.
Time to be silent, speak up?

Pick up this book, won't regret.
Then the next one, read too!

Personally, I couldn't stand the heroine. She comes across as a nosy, busybody, know it all. She gets involved in a murder that she has no connection with, just because she is a butt-in-ski. She isn't trying to clear herself or a friend. There is no motive, rhyme or reason why she should get involved. It is just seems to be in her nature to get involved in things that are in no way connected to her. She not only puts herself in danger, but her sons and her mother too. But, I guess they are expendable. After all, she and her wants come first. I found her very reprehensible.
I am afraid that Celia has put the kibosh on my continuing with this series.

I knew from the beginning that this story would be filled with mystery and a bit of humor, but I never expected to find myself relating to the main character Celia as much as I did. What I really liked about this story was how successfully Ms. Zuma mixed the mystery element with just enough humor to keep the story flowing and light. I was fortunate to receive an Advanced Reader’s copy of this book.

This is the 2nd in the series. The main character is Celia, who sells beauty products for a living. She stops to see her friend Melanie who runs the library and ends up helping with a show being up on at the library. In the middle of the show, the woman putting on the show is murdered. Celia keeps asking questions of everyone involved. She has to figure this out but can she before it's too late and someone comes after her ?

This is the first book by Ava Zuma that I have been fortunate enough to read....and massively enjoy. There is a mixed array of characters that are very easy to relate to, especially the main character Celia. There is excitement , intrigue and humor all mixed together in this enthralling cozy. Celia sells makeup and solves murders

Celia's deceased husband left her with two young sons who she supports by selling cosmetics. Her mother lives nearby and watches the boys when Celia is working or sleuthing. She is very good at both.

This e-book ARC was given to me freely by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, I gave the book 3 stars. I like Celia and her family. I like Melanie. I like that there is only a small cast of common characters between the 2 books. I didn’t guess the murderer at all but Dani the health food woman kind of became a loose end. She was a suspicious person and it never really got resolved. I like the covers for the books but maybe the silhouette could be doing something makeup related on each cover. The silhouette right now has no bearing on the contents of either of the books.
