Kaden I fell in love once and it was amazing. Until it wasn't. I swore to protect her. Until I didn't. I swore to love her forever. Until forever came too soon. After I lost her, I swore I would never fall in love again. Until I met Ashley.
Ashley I depended on a man once. Until he walked out. I gave him my everything. Until he left me and our son with nothing. From then on, I knew the only person I could depend on was myself. Until I met Kaden.
I'm not sure when or how it happened, but Kaden has embedded himself into my life, stealing my heart. Sounds like a good thing, right?
Wrong. Because while Kaden has my heart locked and secure, his heart was given to a woman who can't give it back.
Now I am fighting for his love, hoping he can leave his past behind him and find a future with me.

Fighting for your love is the 4th book in the fighting series. I absolutely love this series and just like the previous books It will hook you in from the beginning till the end. It is full of emotion, humour and characters that will make you fall in love with them easily.
The book focuses on Kaden and Ashley. Best friends who struggle internally with their true feelings for each other. Both scared to loose each other as friends but also scared to face the past and take a leap of faith to true happiness.
Kaden will make you swoon his love for Ashley is strong and the relationship he forms with Ashleys son Tristan is beautiful. He will do anything for them but to give them everything he must confront the past.
Ashley is a strong independent lady who has learnt from her past to only rely on herself to provide for her son. However when the past comes back to haunt her desperate measures lead her into a situation where she has no choice but to accept help from Kaden.
This a beautiful friendship that has the potential to be so much more if only they take the chance.
I easily give this book 5***** and hope to read more of this series.
*****SPOILERS AHEAD***** *****READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.***** *****DONT COMPLAINT LATER THAT YOU GOT SPOILERS*****
They’ve known each other for years and they’ve become best friends. He had ONS but 3 months before the book starts they almost had sex so he hasn’t been with anyone but he did received a phone call in from OW in front of the heroine that wanted to hook up with him. He hasn’t been with anyone for months.
Heroine has been celibate since she left her boyfriend and she has been too busy taking care of her kid to even date. She works a waitress but since losing her job as a teacher because she stripped one night and one her students father saw her and tried to blackmailed her into having sex with him, she did not agreed, he reported her the school principal which caused her to get fired. So she found another job as stripper on their friend’s club. Her ex came back and threatened her to take their son away if she didn’t pay him off. She has a loan shark after her because she borrowed the money from him and if she doesn’t pay him he would get her as collateral for payment. Meaning she would work for him in his gentlemen club/brothel as a sex worker, which it never happens because hero paid him all the money that she owed the guy.
Hero was married 11 years prior and he’s still hung up on his dead wife. She died in a car accident on their way to the hospital to have their baby. He can’t or won’t commit to anyone because he doesn’t have it in him to fall in love with someone again other than his wife.
But then he started falling for the heroine only he had no intention of pursuing a relationship with her. Even though the hero didn’t think he had in him to love another woman he was an ok man. He took good care of the heroine and her son. Making sure they were fed, the heroine didn’t want anyone’s help and was difficult for him to help her without offering to pay her way.
Hero’s grandparents want to see him get married and have kids so they told him that they would give him his inheritance money of $15M if he takes home a fiancé. So hero wants the money he propositioned the heroine about becoming his fake fiancé and he would give her $7M, the heroine accepts but she doesn’t wants his money. He tries to get her fired because he doesn’t want her working as a stripper but she doesn’t want to leave her job so she continues working.
What continue next was hero telling the heroine the truth about his wife and son, how he felt guilty on moving on and feeling like he was cheating on their memory which brings me to this point if he feels that he’s cheating on his wife with the heroine so what was he feeling when he slept with his ONS? Because that didn’t stop him from having them. I mean if he so much felt guilty then he should have stay celibate or faithful to the memory of his dead wife but he didn’t so..... Anyway, he tells her that he’s in love with her, asked her to marry him for real this time. He wants a family with her and her kid, and he also wants her to get off from birth control and stop working as a stripper, she stops and only works a manager for the club. Later she gets assaulted by the guy who tried to blackmail her, hero gets pissed because she promised not to stripped again but she did this one time because they wasn’t many girls working and they were short on strippers, he leaves her right after the assault, she begged him to forgive her. She gets pregnant with not one but two babies.
What I liked about the heroine was that she didn’t feel inferior to his wife. She wasn’t jealous of her. She was honestly heartbroken because he lost her and their son. She embraced her.
**Leo says, she reads what she wants, when she wants and rate how she wants. 😏🤣**
Ashley is a single mother, who works as a teacher trying hard to provide for her son, after her ex left her drowning in debt.
Kaden is an MMA professional trainer. He is sexy, successful and caring. After a terrible tragedy, he left his family and his home town and moved to Vegas to work at his friend’s gym to train MMA champions.
Ashley and Kaden have been best friends for a few years. They love each other and are also attracted to one another but they haven’t acted on it because, for one Kaden only does one night stands, no commitments. And Ashley promised herself after her ex left her that she would never fall for a man again.
Ashley has gotten herself into some troubles and Kaden is there to help her, their relationship suddenly changes after Kaden realizes his true feelings for his best friend, and Ashley, tired of having to deal with everything all on her is finally admitting she wants more than just a friendship from Kane.
Can these two let go of the past, and let love into their lives, or will doubt creep in and destroy everything?
I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Fast paced, and seriously sexy, my head was spinning chapter after chapter. The author does a fantastic job at keeping the reader engaged in the story and causing many emotions as the plot develops. Totally fantastic story. I’m definitely going to check out more books by this author.
☆☆☆☆☆ ~Lynzi I should have known better than to start a Nikki Ash book at 10pm. Especially with it being the book I have been looking forward too. Nikki Ash has become one of my favorite authors and her stories have stayed with me. I can't seem to get enough of her work.
This group of friends is some I have grown to love. None of them were raised the same. None of them have had it easy. But there is two major things they have in common, UFC and their strength.
No matter what character it is, their strength shows through it all. All the ups, all the downs, and all the sideways. They all have a no give up attitude. Their world might be crumbling, but they won't go down without a fight. Which makes total sense because UFC is such a big part of all their lives.
This story, and this 'couple', have been the one I have been anticipating on reading the most. I have loved seeing Kaden and Ashley's friendship grow, but of course, I knew there was more there. So much more. But I definitely wasn't expecting what I got. I wasn't expecting for THAT to be their past, hell even their present.
Kaden is the stay single, be a bachelor for the rest of his life, kind of man. He's never been with a girl more than once nor does he plan too. He is more than OK with leaving a line of one night stands in his wake. His heart is never something he will give away, at least not again. His best friend Ashley is the only woman he has gotten close too, but that's all they can be, is friends. He can't give her more. He doesn't deserve more. He doesn't deserve happiness. Or so he thought.
Ashley is a single mother who will do everything in her power to protect and provide for her son. She has always been able to make ends meet and to make a good life for them, until her past slapped her in her face. So she had to do the only thing she could, sell her soul to the devil. No one, not even her friends, know the things she is going through. Being an independent woman is important to her. Needing someone else's help, much less a man's help, is not something she is ok with. Until she realizes there is one man she wants, help and all. But it's the one man she could never have.
These two together, friendship or relationship, are hilarious. They had me giggling and laughing out loud through the whole thing. They are just crazy! I absolutely love them. I have loved them from the get go and was rooting for them, because let's face it, we all want the couple who isn't supposed to be together, to be together. Like they are forbidden fruit or something. I loved them as friends and I knew if they would put their BS aside, I would love them as more.
Finally finding out about Kaden's past had me on the verge of tears and my heart broken. Then hearing about Ashley's had me pissed and wanting to beat someone up. Nice combination, right?! Yeah it was. It was pretty epic!! Haha
This book tho...I can't even. Better yet, this series...just read them. Read them all! Fall in love with them all! Laugh with them all! Fight with them all! I promise, it's worth it!!
5 Stars to Fighting For Your Love: Fighting #4 by Nikki Ash
Kaden & Ashley.......
Nikki Ash is a new author for me. I had no idea what to expect when I began to read this book. I was engaged from the very beginning so given the fact I started this book late in the day then had an appointment the following day caused all kinds of emotions. I absolutely hated that I had to put this book down because "life" got in the way. Fighting For Your Love is one of those books that you'll want to go off to someplace quiet and read uninterrupted from start to finish if possible. That said, I will definitely be reading more from this author.
When the book opens, Kaden and Ashley are already established as friends. Best friends, actually. Since this is book four in the Fighting series, I'm not sure if Ashley and Kaden made appearances in the previous books. But as I mentioned earlier, I intend to back-read this series and find out. I also loved all the secondary characters that helped make this book even more perfect. You can feel the closeness, loyalty and love they have for each other.
Without giving too much away I will tell you that while Kaden and Ashley are the best of friends, they each are internally fighting a secret attraction to one another. However neither want to cross that line.
While Ashley is more willing to take a chance on romance with Kaden, he is reluctant. Against it, actually. Kaden had loved before and lost it. He is not willing to put himself in that path of grief ever again. He'd rather be alone.
The growth and change in Kaden and Ashley's relationship dynamic is slow and angsty. However it is also steady and perfectly paced. I never once felt frustrated or bored while waiting for their "moment." The author's talented writing takes you on a tense, emotional journey. I cried, I smiled and laughed. I even swooned. Kaden is definitely book boyfriend material. When all is said and done, I was so happy for them. Fighting For Your Love was an amazing story and I'm glad I got to read it. This is definitely a book that will be on my mind for a long time!
Super cute story with all the feels. Good story that paced well. I'm never a huge fan of the "I'm still in love with my dead wife and swore to be true to her" self-flagellation trope, but it was well written and done well.
I was very intrigued with Kaden and Ashley in the previous books of this series. Kaden was so mysterious and not much was mentioned about Ashley except that she was a friend to the other women. I got more than I ever expected out of these two! First of all, I absolutely love books that are friends to lovers. This book gave me that and more!
Ashley and Kaden are best friends. Both have Strong feelings for one another but Kaden fights his feelings because he thinks Ashley deserves better. He had fear, guilt and insecurity of why she shouldn't be with him. Kaden has a past that he has not shared with his friends. This past keeps him from having it all with Ashley.
Ashley is very independent, stubborn and a strong woman. I liked her and connected with her character quicker than I do most heroines. The things she did and the reasons he done them wow'd me. I was rooting for her to get so far under Kaden's skin that he would have to go all in!
This book was angsty and has all the feels I like in a book. The characters are likable and well developed. I loved getting a glimpse of the other characters in the previous books that I fell in love with. I truly love this series and I can't wait for more. As for now, this is my favorite book in the series and one of my top reads of thd year.
I just finished reading Fighting for Your Love by new to me author Nikki Ash.
My opinion in short : A great story well written.
I decided on a whim to grab and review this book because something in the Blurb spoke to me when I read it first. Usually it takes me a little longer to decide because with my full reading schedule every minute is precious so I have to be careful in the choices I make.
Anyway I am not regretting my decision. Even though it is the 4th book in a series its easy to read as a standalone and the author never gives you the feeling that you are not getting a certain situation because you did not read the previous books.
The characters are carefully and well developed. Kaden is a truly likeable character and I could get why he was the way he was. All the secondary characters coming from his side were remarkable and I loved his family.
Ashley was a little harder for me to get. I understand some of the decisions she made where necessary because otherwise there would not have been a story to tell but on the other hand they may have been a little to “easy to see through” for my taste … I was always already knowing what was going to happen.
In total the story was a little to predictable for me at a certain point towards the end – I guess that was inevitable when you consider the whole plot but I would have wished for it to be turned around. Meaning (sorry need to be vague because of spoilers) I would have thought it should happen with him not her or and in total it felt a little to superficial when it happened. This ending the chapter with one cliffy thing and opening the other with a direct smoothing over was not enough for how the story went that far and in my honest opinion those last yards cost the book the 5ths star – it was doing so great until then …
Still in total a fully recommendable read and I am pretty sure I would pick up other books by this author if the blurb appeals to me
I enjoyed this story, and am so glad to see that series will continue on in either another book, or a spinoff. I'm not ready to say goodbye to this group!
I really enjoyed Fighting for your love it can be read as a standalone but you can also read the other three in the series to fall in love with couples while they fall for one another . We get to see how much the characters have grown and built their families was so excited to see that Kaden and Ashleys story if any characters were meant for one another it would be those two , they have deep feelings for one another but stop themselves every time they get close to crossing the friends barrier slow build on the sex scenes but what alittle tease it was and when they finally do just be prepared to fan yourself wink . When we get to know the history of why Kaden fights his attraction for the heroine my heart literally split in two couldn't imagine that kind of pain . I adored Ashley but she kinda got on my nerves sometimes I thought it was cool that she's was independent but sometimes you just can't do things on your own and need to ask for help , she's a great mom to her little boy who is a mini me of the fighting men .Hope Nikki Ash writes about the kids and it kinda hints at that . Can't wait to rea more by this author she really knows how to bring the feels . copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero = 10 heroine = 10 secondary characters = 10 Chemistry = 10 steam = 8 romance = 8 humor = 6 darkness level = 5 enjoyment =10 angst = 4 action = 4 mystery = 4 story line = 10 Story ending = 10 character development = 10 pacing = 10 Plot = 10 cover = 10 stars = 5 author = 10 would I recommend this book = yes would I re read this book = yes would I read future books by this author = yes
Kaden & Ashley was such an emotional story. Poor Ashley kept getting denied by Kaden because no one knew that he had lost his wife and child. Ashley has gone through just as much emotional trauma with her ex and their financial situation.
2.5 Stars So I’m basically reading these books in no real order... I’m a bit disappointed with this one. I know it’s one of earlier books but I don’t know... I was expecting a little more, I guess. And was it just me or was the word “stripping” used like a lot...? I know she worked as a dancer but it was just in there A LOT.
⭐️ 5 "Puzzle Pieces" Stars ⭐️ In the last few days, I’ve been literally obsessed with the Fighting Series! I was excited to dive into Ashley and Kaden’s story, but at the same time sad, because it meant the series is almost over. Fighting for your Love was hands down my favorite of the series! There was just something so special about Kaden and Ashley’s relationship that really got to me. I just couldn’t get enough of their effortless connection. Nikki Ash stole my heart with this marvelous book bursting with feels and mystery!
While I loved every single hero of the Fighting Series, Kaden had something that called to me even more! His alphaness and protectiveness over Ashley had me eager for them to take the plunge toward a real relationship. Their friendship is so freaking pretty and they certainly looks like a real couple with the way they act together. The sparks flying between them with the underlying pull only grow and becomes more complex all read long. But Kaden has a tragic past he can't let go of, making a possible romance with Ashley complicated while he denies his feelings for her. When they finally succumb to their magnetic pull, it's explosive and gorgeous. Kaden is a dirty talker with a side of sweet! The perfect man!
Not only Kaden has a stunning connection with Ashley, but also her son Tristan. He’s truly a great role model for this boy! The scenes they share had me starry-eyed!
Ashley is also a very memorable heroine. I enjoyed her sense of responsibility and her drive to provide for her son at any cost. She’s independent and strong in spite of everything crumbling down around her. She has difficult decisions to make, but wants to prove her independence, rejecting her friends and Kaden’s help. It only puts her in dangerous situation where she's in over her head.
The suspense was really interesting in this novel with some parts taking unexpected turns. I was glued to my kindle all read long with the level of intensity this book provided. Add the group of fighters and their families sharing true friendship and support, this read was a flawless entertainment. It’s bittersweet to finish this series, but at least I know their is a novella and spin-off series of the second generation to keep me satisfied now!
Kaden... Oh Kaden... That beautifully broken man. He was so strong yet so scared, he wouldn't grab what was right in front of him. I fell in love with this series from the beginning, but I never felt that connection to Kaden that I felt for the other guys. He was sort of a sleeper character in the background, and I was a little skeptical, and didn't think his story would touch my heart, like the first three. Well I'm eating my words! Kaden and Ashley's story blew me out of the water, so to speak. When we learned of both characters' back stories, I was so proud of the strength they both found to be able to survive. Let's talk about Ashley. That girl had to prove her mettle! She's a single mother, living on a teacher's salary, and drowning, so she takes a cocktail waitressing job as well. She was bound and determined to clean up the mess her deadbeat ex left her. Kaden kept offering his help, but she was dead set on not depending on any man ever again. It was up to Kaden to break down those walls Ashley erected around her heart, and convince her that they are so much stronger together. Fighting For Your Love became my favorite book in the series. I swear, each story gets better, and Nikki' s writing improves with each book. I would recommend this series to anyone who'll listen! I know she has a couple more books in the works for this gang, but this is the end for the original four guys, and I'm a little sad. I love this makeshift family that was created. Thank you Nikki for giving us these fighters and women that healed their hearts.
4th book in the fighting series - I have enjoyed the whole group!!! Ashley and Kaden's story was good, better than book 3 couple. I liked that their chemistry actually built over all 4 books, so it did feel genuine finely getting their story. This whole series I had planned to binge into the spinoffs...but I'm going to hold off. These books are all the same vibe - same scenery, same chemistry, same tropes...like ALL secret pregnancy, all the couples have the same issues, go through the same guilt and denial, etc. so I really need to change it up. I do look forward to reading the kids spinoff but sounds like they all have the same pregnancy trope, why?!?!
Right off the bat I liked the dynamic between Kaden and Ashley. Nikki Ash did a great job at giving each of the characters a messed up backstory that they needed to finally learn and grow from. Didn't hurt that Kaden was a well off, handsome MMA trainer either. ;)
Nobody but his family knows what happened to the girl of Kaden's dreams, which is why he moved from Colorado to Las Vegas to get away from the memories. As settled as he can be, Kaden is in a good space and thanks his lucky stars to have a best friend like Ashley.
Ashley also has some baggage from her past, that is still dragging her down in the present. She is fiercely independent, almost annoyingly so at some points. Ashley has a six year old son to take care of and has been fine doing it on her own this far.
Kaden and Ashley once again show why guys and gals can't be best friends. One of them always likes the other as something more. They are constantly dancing around feelings for each other while also dealing with thier messed up emotions.
You know, I get Ashley wanting to do things on her own, but sooner or later the girl needs to accept help from somebody instead of constantly putting herself in unstable situations. If I had one complaint, that would be it. The stubbornness of Ashley went on a bit too long.
The book is well written and told from dual points of view. Nikki Ash gives her readers an angsty, slightly irritating at times, love story. It isn't pretty, but these characters make the most with what they've got and I appreciated that. It is book four of the Fighting series, however reads well as a standalone.
This book was so much more than I expected. I loved it so much. It might just be my favorite in the fighting series. The writing in this book is amazing and I couldn't put it down.
I was so excited when I saw it in my library and I devoured it. Kaden and Ashley are so special and there relationship is amazing. They are best friends and they love each other but there always more under the surface.
Kaden is reformed bachelor and he wants to keep it that way because of his past. Ashley wants more with him but he can't go be her that. There's an attraction that they can't shake but they don't want to ruin there friendship.
Ashley is a single mom just trying to take care of her son. Kaden wants to help her but she doesn't want to owe a subsidy anything because she has to much pride to ask for help.
There are so many special parts in this book and I love how she intertwined all the other characters from the other books. I love how they all support each other and are all there for each other all the time. There is nothing they wouldn't do for each other.
He's a man who desperately wants to and possibly more importantly needs to be loved. Unfortunately for him, he's past is anchoring him to his loneliness so he settles to being Ashley's best friend and confidant.
One little problem - he's in love with Ashley.
Ashley needs shaking though - I'm sorry Nikki, but there were moments in this book where I wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up to herself. I understand her need to be independent and self sufficient, but with Kaden there offering his unwavering, unconditional support every step of the way, she needs to open her eyes.
There's no secret I loved this series and these characters. Watching them fight through their pasts to find their futures, watching as they grow from spoiled, selfish people to parents and friends has been an incredible journey... one I hope isn't over too soon.
My thanks go to the author for the ARC of this book.
I have read and loved the previous books in this series by this author so I was pretty sure that I was going to enjoy this, and enjoy it I did.
Nikki knows how to write a romance and you can't help but love her characters. My favourite couple so far are Caleb and Hayley who we met in the previous book Fighting For Your Touch, however I now think Kaden and Ashley are vying for that spot.
I enjoyed the storyline too, it wasn't anything new but still fresh and current. The only criticism for me would have been that there was a serious incident that happened but it blew over quite quick. (I don't want to say which because ya know, spoilers) I felt that could have been elaborated on a little more. For me anyway.
However overall I really did enjoy the book. I always look forward to this authors work and no doubt I'll be excited when I know there's another on the way.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book (given by the author)...
I have been dying to read Ashley and Kaden's story since the ending of Fighting for Your Touch, and I was not disappointed. We all know that Kaden is running from his past while Ashley refuses to accept help in her present. I loved the relationship between Kaden and Ash, but my goodness Ashley's stubbornness got so annoying. I felt her pride caused most of the issues in her life and yet she still refused help from those that loved her most.
We finally learn the tragic truth of Kaden's past which was truly heartbreaking and also gave us an insight to manwhore ways. However, when Ash starts a new job, courtesy of Caleb, Kaden has had enough and decides to take care of her, but things don't go as smoothly as he anticipated.
It was so sad to see the ending of this series, but if my eyes don't deceive me I do believe the children will be getting their own books so yay!!
I have liked all of the books in the fighting series, but fighting for your love is my favorite. Kaden as well as Ashley have great chemistry with one another. I loved the fact that they both loved fiercely and protected those close to them. The author has a way or telling the story that makes you feel as if you are looking threw the window watching the story unfold before your eyes. I am sad that this is the last book in the series , but am looking foward to what she has in store for her readers in the future.
Gimme books... Gimme, gimme, gimme. And books from amazing authors I'm in. Lol I had heard amazing things about this author and when the opportunity arose I was ecstatic. Oh boy... And with a blurb like this one I knew I was hooked. Nikki Ash as an intense, beautiful and heartfelt writing that will make you read non stop. Fighting For Your Love is the fourth book from the Fighting series and I really want to read the other books. All books are standalones so you can read this first and then dig in the others although I prefer to read them in order. This book tells the stories of Kaden and Ashley. Kaden wants to live his life without commitment or a relationship. He wants to have fun and see you later. But he wasn't always like this. Once he had loved with all his heart and then it was shattered into tiny pieces. After that one night stands are his motto. Ashley is a single mom that will do every single thing to protect and provide to her son. She had been well succeed but when her past returns to haunt her she sees herself doing something she can't tell a soul about. She can't show that she needs help or that she needs a man to provide for her but there is a guy that can make her happy but... I'm in love. I'm in love with the story and the characters. I loved everything from the beginning till the end and I want more. The story progressed smoothly with some ups and downs and that made the story so much more appealing. I've laughed so much with these two but I was also scared for them. Things were happening in a way that I didn't saw them coming. Oh Nikki you rock. I Ioved this book and I want more so I hope I can read the first three book. What's next? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Kaden and Ashley have been getting closer over the years. Ashley was friends with Kayla and Liz when they both were raising Bella together before Cooper came back to Liz’s life and Kaden is the trainer of Bentley, Cooper, Caleb and Alex, all successful fighters in the UFC. For the past year have become best friends. He spends a lot of time at Ashley’s house taking care of her 6-years-old son Tristan. Tristan’s father’s disappeared from their lives when Tristan was just a baby leaving them in a lot of debt. Ashley is a teacher, as well as a waitress and tries to get more jobs to cover her debts, and when it seems that she is already sticking her head out from under the water, Tristan’s father appears and demands money from him in exchange for leaving Tristan alone. Ashley hands him 30000$ in exchange for giving up his parents rights. Ashley gets the money through Giovanni(protagonist of “Bordello”, another title of the author that I recommend), a loan shark involved in the mafia. If she does not manage to pay what she owes to Gio, she should work for him in his brothel until pay off her debt. Kaden constantly offered to give her the money she needs but she refuses, she is a very proud woman. They both very attracted to each other and there are a couple of occasions where they almost together but Ashley puts the brakes on. Kaden runs away from commitment, he’s a one-night stands man and that’s not going to change and Ashley isn’t going to throw their friendship overboard for a fuck. The ghosts of the past and the guilt do not allow Kaden to move on with his life. To further complicate matters, Kaden’s grandfather calls his grandson to tell him that his grandmother has a wish for her 80th birthday: to see him happy and in love. So he offers Kaden a deal: if he gets married in less than a year, they will give him 15 millions. Kaden wants to make his grandmother happy in her last days, and with the only person this marriage can work is Ashley. Also the money will help her not to have to work as much and she can spend more time with Tristan. But first she has to understand that their marriage will be a fake one. Again: Ashley is a very very PROUD woman , even if that money solves her life and the life of her son, she will not accept it and she will get more and more into a deeper hole for not asking for help.
“Ashley Myers just might be the death of me. I met her a couple years ago through our friends. She’s good friends with Kayla, Liz, and Hayley, and has a son, Tristan, who is the same age as Bella. We became fast friends and our friendship has grown over time. She is without a doubt my best friend. She is also the most strong-willed, independent woman I’ve ever met. It’s funny because the characteristics I love most about her are the same ones that frustrate the fuck out of me on a daily basis. It’s been almost eleven years since my wife left me, taking our son with her, and while I’ve moved on, the truth is even after all this time, it still hurts like hell to go home. I’ve spent the last several years having one-night stands to try to fill a void that can’t be filled. Well, that is up until six months ago.”
"The bachelor party. Ashley being the stripper. Hearing the guys say they wanted to fuck her. Me, throwing her over my shoulder and then demanding she quit stripping. Her, refusing to quit stripping. Me, realizing that I’m falling for my best friend. Yep, you heard me right. I’m falling for Ashley, and I know what you’re thinking, how the fuck did I not realize this sooner? It’s called denial. Don’t act like you’ve never experienced it. The problem is, I have absolutely no intention of acting on my newfound feelings. She deserves better than what I’m capable of giving her and Tristan. My heart split in half and was taken with my wife and son eleven years ago. Ashley deserves more than the broken man that’s left of me.”
“I know you will, but I don’t want you to. I need to handle this on my own. I can’t depend on anybody but myself.” Ashley needs money, and I need a wife. What could be better than fake marrying your best friend?
“Kaden, wait.” Ashley jumps up from the couch still completely naked. “Have you ever had sex with a woman more than once.”I want to say yes. I had sex with my wife exclusively for many years, but I don’t say that. I can’t say that. That would raise too many questions I don’t want to answer. “No.”“Don’t you see? If we have sex, it will change everything. Sure, we’re attracted to each other, but you don’t do commitment, and even if you stay faithful to me during our fake engagement and marriage, once it’s over, you will move on, and where will that leave us? Where will that leave me?” “I could never just drop you, Ash.” “Kaden, right now I’m your best friend, and our friendship works because sex isn’t part of it. There’s no commitment. If we step over that imaginary line, there’s no going back. I couldn’t take it if you stopped talking to me. You can say you would never do that, but your actions speak for themselves. You have never been with a woman more than once. I can’t take that chance.”
“I want what you two had. I want a love like that. I met Tyler when I was in college and knew he wasn’t good for me, but I was too young to fully get it. Listening to you tell me about Gabrielle and you, what you had was real love. I want real love. And you deserve real love. You’re an amazing man, Kaden. The fact that you thought you had to stay single for the rest of your life to stay true to your deceased wife speaks volumes about the person you are. One day you’re going to meet a woman who will knock you off your feet, and she is going to come with all the pieces to the puzzle you’re missing. You’ll fall in love, and while it won’t be the same as what you and Gabby had, it won’t be any less. It’ll just be different. You’re older and wiser, and you’re capable of love. I can’t fake marry you. I can’t let you stand in front of your family and say fake vows. I’m sorry. I have never been married before, and I hope one day, when I get married, I’ll have a love like the one you and your wife had. It sounds like a truly amazing kind of love.”
