“The Record Player '' - Alice Templeton tells the story of a girl’s growing up within the gravitational pull of the Soviet Union era while being surrounded by her ultra strict Pentecostal mother and all that happened in between. The book is filled with merriment recollections of the past in the series of vignettes which allows the reader to take the backstage pass to what life was like before and after the immigration of so many Slavic families through the 1990’s and after their settlement. The book takes the reader from disintegrating Ukraine in the late 90’s after the fall of Soviet Union and into the promised land of the United States. The result is a journey that is both entertaining and enlightening, and speaks to universal truths of family and self discovery.
