Three hundred years after a world-altering technological catastrophe, mankind has struggled back to roughly the age of sail in the 17th Century. Besides changing the landscape of the planet and skewing the lunar orbit, the event also triggered evolutionary changes in humanity, dividing the event survivors into two distinct species. Nature itself was bent and the blueprint of the physical world rewritten. The most unfortunate effect, however, was the weakening of the borders between the multiple worlds, allowing a long-imprisoned evil to bend its will toward escaping its ancient bonds. Born of privilege, young Rob Dunning finds himself rushing toward a final conflict with not only the enemies of his family but with this ancient power. He discovers that the idyllic childhood spent on his grandfather's vast estate was merely a mask hiding a darker, grimmer reality. As he begins to understand the shape of his own destiny, he is haunted by only one question. Would he be enough to stand against the great evil that threatened the world of his generation?
