A laugh-out-loud enemies to lovers romantic comedy. WINNER of the RWNZ Pacific Hearts Award.

Megan has always been a nerd. But it’s a fabulous form of revenge that the same traits she was tormented for in high school have helped her land her dream job as a science journalist in New York and her dream apartment with fellow nerd, Josh, who is potentially her dream guy. The only problem is Josh’s brother, Brandon, is constantly around. Megan nurses an oversized grudge against jocks and the fact that Brandon’s a professional football player whose new favorite sport is mocking her only increases her fantasies of feeding him to a giant carnivorous plant.

Brandon’s life might look perfect, but he’s got a massive hang-up about his intelligence, a hang-up which is aggravated by the verbal sparring with Josh’s new roommate. Even worse, it appears Science Barbie is falling for his deeply closeted brother. Why does he care so much about preventing the impending disaster? But the more time he spends with Megan, the more he realizes the sparks between them have the potential to ignite into something amazing.

This book had me at jock + nerdy heroine. One look at that blurb and I HAD to try it! And it really did not disappoint!

I loved the banter and the whole dynamic between Megan and Brandon. I loved that it didn’t get too bogged down in resisting each other and that we got lots of time with them as a couple. Because honestly? They were completely adorable as a couple. I loved how sweetly Brandon cared for Megan, and how hilariously Megan kept his ego in check.

I struggle sometimes when the heroine pursues someone else in the romance and that was a struggle for me a bit here. I wanted them both to get out of their own way. And sometimes I took issue with how Megan treated Brandon (particularly related to their conflict). But I felt like all my issues resolved pretty perfectly and respectfully (and frankly, swoonily) and finished the book with a giant smile on my face.

Jacqueline Lee is a new author for me and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the smart, engaging writing and these wholly lovable characters. It was funny and heartfelt and overall – a delight to read! I would definitely be in for more where this came from! ~ Shelly, 3.5 Stars

As my first Lee novel, I'm very pleased with how OA turned out! Lee is a gifted world builder and has great instincts with her character development and dialogue. I really liked Brandon and enjoyed that he was not only aware of his shortcomings but that he always tried to be better and do better around Megan. He wasn't pretending or being pressured by her, just a genuine desire to be the best person he could be because she tried to be her best self as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the Josh dilemma because I found it kind of weird, to be honest, and it made me want better for Brandon. I liked Josh, I just didn't like that he omitted the truth and that Brandon had to watch it and then possibly feel like second best. And it made me question Megan's observation and deduction skills as a scientist...haha. But in all honesty, it was a fun, flirty, snarky story with a lot of heart!

Megan is a science journalist, living her best life. Something made even better when she passes the flatmate test to share an apartment with Josh in New York. Josh is her ideal man, cute, geeky, interested in all those nerdy science and nature documentaries on TV. Megan doesn't understand why her dislike of (American) football was a clincher when Josh interviewed her, little does she know that Josh's older brother Brandon is a famous professional football player. As the only nerd in a family of football fanatics Megan always felt left out and different to her siblings.

Megan's attempts to charm Josh are thwarted at every turn by Brandon who has taken to hanging around their apartment like a third roomie, not getting the nerdy jokes or understanding the articles they discuss. At least he and Megan have some twisted sniping routine between them. For Brandon's part it's nice to meet a woman who likes or dislikes him for his personality and looks, not because he pulls in eight figures a year in salary, before endorsements. But it doesn't matter how rich and successful Brandon is, his parents will always favour Josh, because he's a scientist like them.

I loved every page of this, Science Barbie meets Football Ken. The banter is slick and charming, the characters are engaging and I was swept along effortlessly with this cute opposites-attract romantic comedy.

Highly recommended.

This was exactly what I needed right now. A lovely, sweet, romantic story. I liked Megan and Brandon a lot. I loved that they both had their own insecurities and they were not "perfect". Both of them were such a wonderful match, these two flawed, yet fantastically strong individuals finding each other was a complete treat to witness. Them falling in love was very nicely done and believable as it didn't happen overnight but it took time for their affections to grow. I really appreciated that. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars from me is the fact that for the first half of the book Megan thinks she wants Brandon's brother (nothing wrong with that, I just think it went along for too long).
But overall Opposites Attract was a nice read. It had humor, romance and good plotline. And it was just the right combination of them. Recommended.

Very cute and fun! I liked the dynamics between Megan and Brandon a lot, and Josh was a very sweet character as well. I did feel like the ~drama~ of it all could have been extended a bit more, but overall it was a nice brain break read.

About the book

• A scientist and a Football player

I could point a few more things but I don't want to be a clicheé. So basically, Brandon is a football player and Megan is a scientist and they are opposite.
The book is likeable. They are fine together, have chemistry but at some point you can feel they gonna explode and everything will go to the trash...
I wish they could have much more self esteem (Megan I'm looking at you) and feel proud about their respective lives. They are amazing invidually and I hate when they can't build it in the relationship.

Thankful for the epilogue ♥

It's a cute story, and I loved the dialogue and the 'ease' around it. The relationship/s didn't feel forced. It did keep me more enthralled until the midway point, to be honest - I was turning the pages to get to how a conflict would be settled...and then it kinda devolved into a 'nice' read from there on. It's not bad, but there wasn't the urgency and expectation I lived in during the first half.
But what really made me stay was Brandon! What an adorable person - well done to the author for having written such a wonderful hero

This is my first book by Jacqueline and I thought it was outstanding. Plenty of laugh out loud moments were one of the many highlights to this story. I love an enemies to lovers romance and I wouldn’t necessarily say that this was what this book would be described as. Brandon & Megan just like to trade barbs with each other and it honestly made for incredible reading. The title was very apt but these two in the end just made sense. Such a well written entertaining story that looks like is the first in a new series that I know I will definitely be reading more of. Opposites Attract was an easy, fluid read with some hiccups, but also a story that you would want to finish reading.
There were some weird moments where Megan, the female protagonist, bashes her closeted roommate for not being interested in her. That was hard to read as his being gay has nothing to do with her and all of my compassion was towards him (the gay roommate). I felt Megan was a brat and rude, especially in this instance.
There were also some implausible things that happened, such as seeing the boy from high school who made fun of her just happened to be at an event in NYC that the main characters were at and there is a confrontation regarding high school… It played off as cringe and totally out of nowhere.
So there is some cringe and bleh, but also some funny banter and real feelings as you read.

This book was full of humour and sweet moments. I liked the idea, I liked (most of) the jokes and I like the relationships that formed between Brandon, Josh and Megan. While I mostly liked Josh and Megan, it was actually Brandon that stood out the most for me. I liked that while he was a certain way on the outside, on the inside he had a lot of insecurities from childhood and family dynamics that you don't really see in jock romances. So it was refreshing for Brandon to show these specific vulnerabilities.

This book is really about not judging people based on stereotypes and how society frames them. I liked uncovering the layers to the characters and overall, it was a sweet romance with some laugh-out-loud moments.

I loved this book! This was my first novel by this author and I know, without a doubt, that I will definitely pick up more of her work in the future. We get a fun, witty romance between a wicked smart science journalist and a professional football player packaged perfectly in an enemies to lovers/romantic comedy setting. Honestly, what more could you need?!

Our heroine, Megan, writes pieces for a science journal. She's incredibly smart and passionate about all things science. We are introduced to her as she's searching for a place to live and meets her new roommate, Josh, who is also a huge nerd. They enjoy the same things, have great conversation, and get along beautifully. Megan thinks they would be perfect together, but little does she know that Josh has a big secret. Then we meet, Brandon, Josh's brother - quarterback for the NY Goliaths. Brandon and Megan's favorite thing to do is bicker and taunt each other. As the reader, it's entertaining to witness their chemistry ignite every time they are in the same room, while the couple is oblivious to it. It was fascinating to watch their relationship grow and develop. At first, they couldn't stand each other and Megan was caught up in her own head about how perfect she and Josh would be together because they "make sense", but she can't control her developing feelings for Brandon. These two fight their attraction for so long, that when they do finally come together, I expected it to be explosive. I will admit that I was a little let down by the closed door sex scene. That's never been my favorite. There was so much sexual tension throughout the first 50% of this novel - I just wanted to be in the room with them when they finally got down and dirty! To each their own.

I loved that Megan struggled with her confidence because of her past. I find that often times strong female characters can be written in a way that makes they a little too headstrong and they become unrelatable and too crass. Megan was the opposite. Although she was smart and knew her strengths, she never made Brandon feel bad for choosing the career he did. Yes, she had a bit of an issue with football players at the beginning of the novel, but once she opened up about her reasoning everything moved forward in a healthy way. I also loved that Brandon struggled with his own insecurities! Flawed characters are everything to me in a story. If either one of the leads is too "perfect" I lose interest quickly in the novel. Megan and Brandon both struggled, they had incredible chemistry, and there was enough drama in this tale for it to keep the reader on their toes without it being too angsty. Overall it was VERY well done and I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who doesn't mind closed door sex scenes (because that's a pretty big deal in the romance community). 4 stars!

It's been a while since I've read a contemporary romance book that even though it's not slow burn (my favorite type of romance), I liked the way I liked this book.
I love Megan and Brandon, the main characters in this book, I laughed, I cried, and I hated several characters in this book.

This book tells the story in two voices (of both protagonists) Megan looks for an apartment and moves in with Josh, both share as roomies, she is a scientist who hates soccer players (American soccer) without knowing that Josh's brother, Brandon is a famous soccer player, she and Brandon, do not get along very well let's say, their relationship is fun, between fights and more, sexual tension is born.

I really loved the style of the book because we see that they spend time together, they know each other, they learn a lot about each other, it was something that I found nice and although the book says it is an enemies to lovers, I think it is rather that they are two different people who have a different relationship, but fun, not just because they fight is that they hate each other.

I hated Brandon's parents a little bit, especially the mom, I really dislike the negligent parents and what to say about Mason (soft eyes). I'm glad to know about Josh.

Anyway it's a nice book, without so much unnecessary drama, I loved that it was pretty laid back and Brandon has my heart, he's a sweetie pie, it's a book to read in a little while.

If more come out, I will definitely read them.

QOTD: Were you more of a jock or a nerd in school?
My A: Both? My school was VERY sports based and VERY good at sports. Like state champs in everything type good. So to not be a jock of some sort growing up was hard. I ran track and played on three softball teams each summer, 2 travelling teams & 1 school team! But I still loved science, cats and books and was willing to spend hours talking about any of those topics.
.
If you’re in the market for a fun and flirty read to take to your next trip to the pool or playground, this is it! I read this in one day in-between trips to the park, library and children’s museum Friday. I had a hard time putting it down, sucked into the laugh out loud dry humor and witty banter between Brandon and Megan. Opposites in every way, it’s hard to decipher if those are sparks or flames flying between them. Brandon is quick to give Megan support and remind her being independent doesn’t mean you don’t need a friend and Megan is there to check Brandon’s ego and remind him what it's like to be treated like a normal guy and not a NFL star. Between obscene Barbie & Ken doll scenes in the kitchen, a crashed date and Naked & Afraid marathons, Brandon and Megan find themselves pulled closer and closer, but will they light each other up or go down in flames?
.
Brandon is used to people throwing themselves at his feet and begging for his attention. The entire reason his brother, Josh, is even looking for a new roommate is because his last became obsessed with Brandon and they had to get a restraining order. When Brandon visits his brother’s apartment hoping to crash in the guest room after a night of drinking, he’s shocked to find a woman in the bed. Even more shocked when she doesn’t seem to know or care who he is. Megan is a science journalist who feels like she’s found her dream roommate. The fact that he’s super cute and has everything in common with her is just an added bonus. Too bad his annoying, jock brother is always hanging around running her chances of getting to know Josh better.

Opposites DO Attract !! . . .

I very much enjoyed this enemies-to-lovers romance. With Megan being a science nerd and Brandon being a professional football player -- starting quarterback for the New York Goliaths -- they fit the "opposites" description right from the start. Megan moves in with Josh, another science nerd, and Brandon, his brother. Both of them have their insecurities. Megan was teased in high school but now is grateful her nerd status made her current job possible. Brandon Seaton is a great athlete, but worries about his intelligence, a hang-up made worse by being around quick-witted Megan. Brandon also sees that Megan seems interested in his brother who “plays on the other team”. So he runs interference as the two of them begin to banter with each other, and the reader gets to enjoy their hilarious barbs.

As expected, they spend more time together and Brandon begins to notice his attraction for her. Could he ever interest “Science Barbie” in a relationship with “Football Ken”? (This is an inside joke you will laugh about when you read the book.)

This story line was just so good! My all-time favorite scene was when Megan’s parents come to visit her and she had just been with Brandon. He walks out shirtless and her dad has hero worship for the famous football player whom he cannot believe is her roommate’s brother! On the initial meeting, Megan only introduces him as Josh’s brother and not her boyfriend, which hurts Brandon. When he later talks to her about it, they make their status clear to each other. It was a good thing, since Megan overslept with Brandon and forgot she was having breakfast with her parents. Josh woke her and she had to stop her mom from going toward her bedroom because “someone is in there”. While floundering to tell them something plausible, Brandon walks out and tells them he is her boyfriend. It was so perfect! Do not miss reading this book. It’s so much fun!

This was so much fun! The characters were likable, nice people that were easy to cheer for. The author did a wonderful job of making a story that was light but not insubstantial. The characters had their issues to overcome, but they worked through them like kind, mature adults and didn't devolve into unnecessary drama.

The story was blessedly free of insta-love. Instead, the relationship grew steadily and naturally and included lots of fun banter and joking. I'm going to be chuckling at Science Barbie and Football Ken for quite a while! There was definitely chemistry between the couple, but their physical relationship was described fairly obliquely (I'd say PG-13ish). I wouldn't blush suggesting this to my mom.

There were a couple of plot threads introduced that could have been expanded on more (the interview with the neuroscientist and her somewhat prejudicial reaction to the main characters' relationship, the implications of the huge, huge career decision the male MC made, Josh & Mason, etc.) but the core story felt complete and satisfying. I wound up reading this way faster that I intended because it was just so darn enjoyable. I'd heartily recommend checking it out!

A note: there are many, many instances of UK/Commonwealth English in the book, even though the story is set in America, about Americans. It didn't detract from my enjoyment, but it's kind of like listening to a symphony and realizing the triangle player is off the beat. It doesn't ruin it, by any means...but you notice.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

What happens when you put a nerd and a jock in a room together? Sparks and insults.

Megan is looking for a new place in NYC and finds Josh has advertised a spare bedroom. When they click for their love of the sciences, he asks her to move in, but she doesn't realise that his brother is part of the package. Brandon is a famous football player who is staying out of the limelight as he tries to get a contract to continue playing in the NFL. He ends up spending a lot of time in his brother's apartment which now comes with a sparring partner. As they both begin to spend more time with each other, they sparks fly.

The first thing I notice about books is the pacing (it's one of my pet peeves), and this book was perfectly paced. I absolutely loved the battle of the wills between Megan and Brandon. Their constant bickering was so amusing and they kept it up throughout the entire book which enhanced the book. (I love books where the main characters are witty and they use that against each other.)

The football aspect of the book was toned down and was definitely something that anyone can understand, especially someone like me who is not well versed in football at all.

Josh was a great side character in the book and I really wished that there was more for him in his relationship. His relationship with his brother is actually amazing and I'm glad that there wasn't a rivalry that constantly played out. I hope we see him in future books and that he maybe gets his own book.

All in all, I cannot recommend this book enough.

What you can expect:
* enemies to lovers
* opposites attract (can you tell?)
* nerd x jock
* witty bunter between main characters
* gay side character
* dual POV

After looking for a room in New York, Megan not only finds the perfect place, roommate, but also an ideal man. Josh is nice and intelligent, they both immediately find a common language, because they share a love for science.

Then, she meets Brandon, Josh's brother, arrogant, annoying and handsome jock, who couldn't be more different than her. The more time she spends with him, the more she realizes Josh can be a perfect guy only in theory. But will she take a risk and involve with someone who reminds her of her traumatic experience?

I think the focus on Megan's feelings for Josh went too long. Her, developing new feelings for Brandon, but still having crush on his brother on the same night, was kinda messy.

Brandon is a perfect example that we shouldn't judge someone based on their looks. He's a confident and cocky football player at first glance but also a vulnerable and soft man. Megan's and Brandon's insecurities and traumatic past is the reason why they resent each other. I can relate to Brandon. Yes! Give me more siblings who feel insecure because their parents favor their smarter or more successful children.

If you like enemies to lovers and opposites attract trope, then this funny and sweet novel is perfect for you. I would definitely like to read more about Josh. Queer people deserve their own story, not only as side characters.

An absolutely delightful novel. What a charming, entertaining witty storyline, telling the story of Megan, a science journalist and total science buff and Brandon, a very handsome, hunky professional football player who despite his money and fame, managed to stay grounded. No matter, he is no academic and his brother's roommate, Megan, who dislikes football players, begins to spar verbally with Brandon, which quickly becomes a habit between the protagonists. They couldn't be any more different. Even though Megan's comments are often undiplomatic and unkind, Brandon however, begins to appreciate the fact that Megan is honest and offers her opinions on the basis of what she feels. rather than treating Brandon as a famous and rich sports personality. You wouldn't think it is possible, but they do develop feelings for each other. Not only do they enjoy a great physical relationship but have a close, honest bond, based on friendship, perpetual teasing, mockery, bantering, some educating but lots of laughter. The author created a great story, with smooth, effortless delivery, good use of language, well-developed, likeable characters good scene descriptions, funny dialogues and plenty of steam. I loved this book and would more than happily recommend it.

Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All the thoughts are my own.

I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers trope and even more so for nerd romances, so I had high hopes for this book. And I'm happy to say my hopes were not crushed.

Megan and Brandon are polar opposites of each other. She's a science journalist, he is a football player. Megan and Josh- Brandon's brother are roommates with Brandon crashing there all the time but she and Brandon don't get along well.

The banter between Megan and Brandon is witty, funny and does not go overboard. Both of them know where to draw line. I loved the scientific tidbits scattered throughout the book.

Although all the characters are likable, I liked Brandon most. The tension between the two was palpable. There were moments that were sweet and emotional.

The only thing I didn't like was that there were so many assumptions in their relationship, especially from Megan.

Josh is a great character and hope we get to read his story in the future.

That book was so nice to read that I did it in one go. I mean, I know I'm a romance-lover, that the "opposites attract" type is one I usually quite enjoy, especially when it's a slow burn, dual point of view, and dealing with important issues along the way without them being the focus. Maybe these actually could have been more focused on, but I mean I knew it was gonna be a romance, chick-lit kind of book and it ticks all the boxes I have without that.

In terms of plot, it was great, not much to report since it follows the arc you usually have in romances. The characters though were really great, and the banter made me smile. All great ingredients to a good romance in my book.

It might not be my all-time favourite romances, but I had a good time reading it and would definitely recommend it.

This story follows Megan, who is a science journalist in New York, in search of a new apartment. She finds a perfect apartment and the perfect roommate Josh, who could be her dream guy, and Brandon, who is a professional football player and Josh's elder brother. It turns out that Megan hates football players, so naturally she isn't impressed with Brandon.

I really liked this book. It had all the elements of a RomCom, which made it amazing. It is a typical enemies to lovers book but it has some unique elements.

The plot is predictable but still enjoyable and it is pretty fast paced.

It has POVs of both Megan and Brandon which helped me to understand their characters and struggles better. There is character development, which I didn't expect to happen, so I was pleasantly surprised. The banter between Megan and Brandon was really fun to read.

All in all, I had a great time reading it!

Brandon is a NFL quarterback relaxing in the off season and Megan is a science magazine journalist. When Megan becomes flatmates with Brandon's brother Josh, the barbs fly.
Megan and Brandon were both colourful characters and I liked their feisty interactions. They are so different I wasn't sure how the author would convince me their relationship would work, but the HEA worked.
Fav Quote:
“You’d never go out with a football player?” Josh’s eyes sparkle. I’m obviously helping him in some kind of point-scoring game against his brother and I have no problem playing along. I give an exaggerated shudder. “I’d prefer to gnaw off my own arm.” Brandon studies me with a peculiar look on his face. “You know what they say—opposites attract.” “That theory works for magnetism, but not for relationships,” I reply. Josh’s grin grows wider. “She’s got you there.” Brandon continues to study me, his weird expression not wavering. “She sure does,” he finally agrees.

Megan is a science journalist who hates football, even though she's from a family and state that loves it.
Brandon is a NFL quarterback-the one member of his family who is not a scientist. Oh, and he is Megan's roommates' brother.
No one believes they could last, including Megan. They don't makes sense, they are total opposites. But they have a huge amount of chemistry.
This is a Dual POV steamy romance, but the steam is only at a level two (if going with a scale that can be found online)- we know it's happening, the sex is mentioned many times, but it the scenes are glossed over.
Even though this is not my preferred steam level, I absolutely loved this book! The characters were great, and the concept was really good too.

This was a first read for me by author, Jacqueline Lee. I loved it!

It is full of funny, witty banter between the two leads, Brandon and Megan. The character development is wonderful. These characters come across as very likable. There are moments of casual comfort to sweet vulnerability. Loads of laughs and many issues are addressed from stereotypes, feminism, emotional turmoil regarding coming out for a character, and dysfunctional family dynamics. I enjoyed to side story about Josh and he was definitely a key character in this storyline.

It is a clean read with HEA, no cheating, and no cliffhangers. I am definitely looking forward to reading more by this author. Highly recommend.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read this book.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The characters themselves and the relationship development are probably what I enjoyed the most. They definitely had good banter and chemistry. There weren't any majorly traumatic events for them to break up over, and all in all, it was fun to read. I think what I liked most, was that the book was exactly what it said it was, an opposites attract romance, and it delivered.
Unfortunately I had to take half a star off for the initial intimate scene as it was quite rushed and not very descriptive.

I enjoyed this book! I liked Jacqueline's writing style and the book overall! I'll admit the whole storyline with Josh being gay but not saying anything to Megan was a bit annoying to me. I felt like it really took away from the overall greatness of the book and was unnecessary. But that's just my opinion! I liked the science and sports aspect of the book, I thought it worked well and was a refreshing read! Definitely something different.

I thought Megan and Brandon's relationship was adorable and very believable. I enjoyed their banter back and forth and the Barbies were great. Thank you to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review #OppositesAttract, it was a great read and perfect for the summer!
