This book is awesome! I read the book all day long and could hardly put it down till I was finished! 😀

This book tell the journey of Octavia👩‍💼and Abri's👩‍💼year in Secondary Three. It is turning out to be a great year for them. Abriana receives a boost after she wins a major national writing competition 📃 , and Octavia’s a rising star in the school’s tennis team 🎾. The Circle ⭕ of Evil does not seem to cause much trouble for them in the start of the year.

However, when the BFFs encounter a strange waterspout🌪which is part of the severe weather events happening around the world 🌎 he Abri suspects The Others are responsible, while Octavia quickly shifts the blame to climate change. In the end, the launch operation SWAP (Severe Weather Alalysis Project) to confirm the cause of events. But their investigation is hampered when Abri accidentally bumpes into Jessica👩‍💼, the school's sync swim captain 🏊‍♀️ , which follows her accidentally sending a laughing emoji 🤣 on her post showing her sprained ankle, it causes a feud with the mean girls. A schoolgirl crush between Abri and Fynn👫, Naomi's older brother, threatens to cause a rift between the best friends.

Abri and Octavia finish operation SWAP with the high suspicions that the Others are on planet Earth 🌏. However, when Aunty's Katy confirm the results, and the Others are shown to be in disguise in Singapore, Octavia and her mother leave for Viridis 🌑, leaving Abri. The book ends:
"I knew Octavia would find way back. And when she did, we would face The Others together."

I thoroughly enjoyed the cliffhanger, and I hope I will be able to read Invasion soon.

"Jessica turned around and our eyes met. If looks could kill, I would have died a thousand times over."

Against the backdrop of intense schoolgirl rivalries, Vivian Teo unfurls a mystery of whether the sporadic odd weather events that seem to always occur near the best friends point to something more insidious than climate change?

Fans of the My BFF is an Alien book series would love this latest instalment. This is Miss 10's favourite book series and you have to see it to believe how thrilled she was to receive Turbulence (evidence in IG story).

A cute JC boy is thrown into the mix, and best friends drift apart after a rift occurs. Intense yet totally believable, the schoolgirl dynamics are captured convincingly and empathetically. Is it true that best friends should give each other space to harbour secrets from time to time? Is what a friend thinks is in your best interests, always in your best interests?

Read Turbulence to find out.

9/10 💫

The teenage life gets very real in this installment of Vivian Teo’s My BFF is an Alien series, Turbulence.

Abriana and Octavia are in Sec 3, and they have to navigate the snarls from a bunch of mean girls led by a very nasty Jessica. Vivian has drawn a certain complexity and background to this character and I like how she wraps the sequence of events with some kindness and redemption in sight.

As their friendship grows, the duo also has to deal with a typical and atypical issues (well, Octavia is an alien with supra-hearing and abnormal strength 😆) which cause tension in their own relationship. I wasn’t a big fan of the angst but I think it’s all quite accurately depicted!

Throw in some social media snafus and the stage is set for an adolescent drama with very funny lines in relief. Vivian, I like!!🤣🤣

In the background of all this, the girls investigate some extreme weather events that seem to be related to the Others, an alien race at war with Viridis, where Octavia is from. I spy a buildup to the next book due out in 2022!
