The subtitle says it all...how to stand guard and protect your family, home, and community. A training manual on prayer using personal anecdotes (his own and others) as well as explanations of the Greek and Hebrew words used in various passages speaking about prayer. I've read all of his books multiple times and I learn something each time I read one. For me, the language background is interesting and helpful...English can convey such lack of meaning sometimes. I like how he digs down deeper and then isn't ashamed to tell some stories on himself to further illustrate the point.
Never have I been more aware of the need to pray..... without ceasing than I am today. I have read Intercessory Prayer by Dutch and Beth Alves book Becoming a Prayer Warrior. This book continues the Watchman type of prayer mentioned in those books. This book helped me see the different roles of a watchman and how to pray within that role. It gave some good Do's and Don'ts as well.
I took a really long time reading Watchman Prayer in order to fully absorb some of the meatier chapters. I recommend this book for anyone wanting to enter more deeply into prayer for their family, neighborhood, church, and region.
An engaging beginning which pulls you in to read about a serious issue. The stories of real experience make the book more captivating and compels one to think about their prayer life.
Membuatku ingin terus berdoa, bersyafaat untuk banyak hal, untuk keluarga, teman, sahabat, sesama dan hal-hal lainnya. Kalau lagi malas berdoa, membaca buku ini bisa membuka hati lagi..
… should seriously consider reading the Watchman Prayer. Seriously. This is opening my eyes to the POWER in so many scriptures I’ve read and known and quoted for 50 years… and no idea how much was stuffed into them!
In truth, I’m finding that is the case with EVERY book Dutch Sheets and his brother Tim Sheets write. But Dutch, especially is my kind of teacher… he knows his original languages, not just individual words but the grammar and syntax and all the rest to EXPERTLY dig down to the DEPTHS of the root of the words Holy Spirit selected to speak to our spirit, that set our soul free to BE who we are in KingYeshua and His Kingdom… here… on Earth, now, today.
I can and do equally recommend: “Becoming Who You Are” by Dutch Sheets “Authority in Prayer” by Dutch Sheets “Planting the Heavens” by Tim Sheets
A great book - one of his best books and very helpful in setting up a prayer/intercession group within a church. The summary and work through chapter by chapter at the end of the book is also very well written as a study guide for such a prayer/intercession group. I am very motivated in starting a prayer/intercession group again. Dutch Sheets draws from personal experience as well as the experience of others and the historical examples to bring home a point; and then that truth is very solid and established. I like that. There is a good balance between his personal experience, those of others, history and the sound Biblical verses explained with good Greek/Hebrew reverences. Indeed a very valuable aid in starting a prayer/intercessory ministry.
Solid read but a lot of excerpts from other books which personally is not my taste as I feel it makes the narrative quite stiff at times. I would still recommend this book as the principles are of great importance.
I learned so much and feel inspired to step up to the plate in prayer as a watchman!! This book helped me, inspired me, and encouraged my heart. A great read with down to earth writing for anyone to enjoy! I love this book! Must read!
Excellent, new (!) insights and quirky humor in a practical book on prayer. Definitely upped my sense of responsibility for the people and causes that I’m concerned about.
Really good book on the subject. I gave it 4 out of 5 because I think his other books "Authority in Prayer" and "Intercessory Prayer" were better. This one reused a lot of content from both of those.
Bruh like 50% of this is block quotes. It's like an essay trying to reach a page limit in high school.
Or many a word limit. Look at this nonsense: "beware, be aware, do not be unaware" and "Watchmen must beware—be aware. If we are not aware, we are obviously unaware, or ignorant..." (pg. 57)
This book makes me think this religion is toxic. This dad went on a 30 day hunger strike because his daughter went to a non religious college and didn't want to come home for Christmas? That's so dramatic. Besides this, like none of the stories/ examples are believable. If you took religion out of it and retold these stories, people would think you were crazy.
Then there's this: "The papers listed that day, March 4, as the “darkest single day in commercial aviation” with both planes going down—yet our great God was able to protect Gordon!" (pg. 114). So God was able to save Gordon and not the 188 people that died on those planes?
Four stars for content. Sheets pulls from multiple sources to create a comprehensive guide to the churches (seemingly forgotten) roll as watchmen. I had always read about “watchmen on the wall” but truly had no clue the depth of what was in that phrase.
I only wish I read his book on intercession first. (Picking it up now).
