The Comic Con

Rate this book
Birdie Yamamoto has lived in a fantasy world for as long as she can remember.

When she was a young child, she buried herself in comic books. As a teenager, she created stories of her own. Now she has her dream job, as a series writer for Suffra-Jette -- her very own comic.

Atticus Cohen has perfected the art of pretending to be someone he’s not.

The rising Hollywood actor lands the role of a lifetime – a lead in the latest big budget superhero movie: Suffra-Jette. The rigorous workouts, grueling schedule, and relentless press are all things he expects when he takes the job.

What he doesn’t expect is comic creator, Birdie Yamamoto, to have an opinion about everything he says or does.

When word spreads about the trouble on set, fans of the beloved comic begin to worry about the outcome of the movie.

Birdie and Atticus may not always be on the same page, but they both want the movie to succeed. So when Birdie’s best friend suggests they pretend to date to save the movie, they agree.

After all, it’s just a publicity stunt to spin the bad press.

…Until it isn’t anymore.

“Tell me something I should know.”

I read a lot of books and I mean a lot…It takes something truly powerful and unique to really make me remember why I have such a passion for reading; The Comic Con is that book.

This is not simply about about a fake relationship and some comic books. This is an intricate blend of multifaceted characters and a layered plot that the author spins around you that leaves you unable to put the book down. From the name of the comic to the female team, the author gives us a small lesson on womens voting rights and gives us a shining example on how if we band together we can break those glass ceilings.

“Tell me something I should know.”

This book is about making dreams come true, not settling, loving yourself, a true sisterhood, a true village who you know has your back, and the most purest form of love: sacrifice.

“Tell me something I should know.”

This is my Top Read of 2022 and I don’t see anything knocking it off its throne. I laughed, I cried, and these characters stayed with me even when I had to adult & I know they will stay with me long after. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us next.

Read this book - you can thank me later!

What a fun read! I absolutely fell in love with Birdie and Atticus from the first page! Birdie is such a relatable character and I loved everything about her. I saw so much of myself in her, and it's one of the many reasons I fell in love with this book. And how swoony is Atticus?! Talk about the ultimate book boyfriend!
I loved the backdrop of Suffra-Jette...my feminist loving heart grew while reading this book! I love reading badass books with badass babes kicking ass and taking names! Major crush on Birdie because of it!
So many happy feels after reading this book!
I have never read Dee's books before, but her way with words and the world she creates has create a new fan!

I've been in a reading slump. Add to that becoming friends with several authors and I was truly afraid to read their work. What if I hated it or the writing wasn't good? Ack! So it led to me actively avoiding reading for a while. So when I got my paws on this one, I was excited because of the blurb. I refused to think about the other poor books in my tbr list, all piled up, being ignored out of a stupid fear. My own real life love story of comic books and superhero movies helped me put blinders on that I needed. I enjoyed The Comic Con, start to finish. My hubby and I both share a love of Batman stemming from our childhoods. Reading about the comics created by Dee Lagasse, based upon her own comic book love, made me cheer! This story kept me rooting for the real hero of the story: love.

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

I always enjoy the books that Dee writes. The Comic Con and the story and relationship between Birdie and Atticus was an enjoyable one. Not without its quirks and issues between the characters of course. I found it easy to read and the characters were all likeable. It's another great world that Dee has created and was nice to dive into this and just relax with a nice book.

I hope we get more from this world, would love to read more about some of the secondary characters. Enjoyed this and recommend.

This is a fresh, fun and entertaining story.
I loved the woman empowerment aspect with Birdie’s Comic, her company and the whole Suffra-Jette Comic crew of friends. It was perfectly balanced in my opinion, not “in your face” or preachy. It was simply telling Birdie’s story and passion. I loved it!
Birdie and Atticus are immensely likable characters. They are both stars in their own “worlds” and both have remained humble. They are kind hearted and giving. Both have pasts they can identify with each other.
They had so much in common so the fast pace of the romance worked for me.
The fake relationship was refreshing in the way it worked out. The characters don’t hate each other or fight it.
Their chemistry was believable, hot and sweet.
I loved the story, it was so enjoyable and heartwarming.
The secondary characters are fun and bring big heart to this unique story.
I really enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author.

Birdie, the heroine in The Comic Con has written a successful women-centric comic book called the Suffra-Jette and when it is made into a movie! I love that so much of this book focused on the women-centric empowerment message and gave voice to some of the disparities between men and women when it comes to everything from how they are portrayed in the media to the pay inequities in Hollywood. With that said it was also a very sexy and swoony romance built on the foundation of fake dating with real feelings!

Fake dating is always so fun to read and this was no exception. Birdie and Atticus were such a cute pair full of miscommunications, long looks, and great chemistry. I loved how they each brought something different to the relationship and how regardless of them both being successful in their own professions they still managed to geek out over the other. The fake dating for the sake of the movie was a funny twist that I could definitely get behind and the adorable relationship that Birdie and Atticus formed through that process was so perfect.

The entire book was filled with witty characters, great friends, a fun story, excellent female empowerment, and a very sexy swoony romance. I'm looking forward to the next in this series!

'Tell me something I should know' is asked throughout The Comic Con be Dee Lagasse.

Well, in my opinion, the something you should know is this...Dee Lagasse has created a gorgeous novel where the worth of women is celebrated, and not just by women.

The characters in this highly readable novel are truly supportive of each other, celebrating each other and their triumphs.

All this and a thoroughly feel good novel where the reader is easily caught up in the world of comic book creation and the kick a$$ characters they bring to life. Add to the mix a sought after actor playing an important role in the movie adaptation and lots of boxes are ticked.

The story of Birdie and Atticus is gorgeous in it's almost innocent portrayal and a must read.

I LOVED this book. The Comic Con is so unique. If you love Marvel, DC or Comic books you need to read this.

Birdie has created a female dominated comic book series in a male dominated industry and she's kicking butt. When her comic book becomes a movie she even gets a dream actor and teenage crush to play in it. However after a huge misunderstanding she accidentally causes drama which leads a new fake relationshp.

Atticus thinks Birdie is the coolest person he's ever met and that's say a lot since he's from the Hollywood elite. However, he's pretty sure she hates him. He quickly agrees to a fake relationship to help save the reputation of the movie but what happens when things seem to go from fake to real but a new threat appears?

Dee Lagasse's best book to date. Her books are always cute and romantic, but somehow with The Comic Con, Dee hit a her stride. Her writing has a new confidence.
Atticus is the perfect book boyfriend but the real star of this show is Birdie. You'll want Birdie to be your BFF. I KNOW I DO.

The Comic Con is such an adorable, empowering, and fantastic read! This is the type of book that will have you loving not only the characters but also yourself.

Dee Lagasse knows how to write such empowering and strong heroines. These females are truly the star of the book. Birdie is such a down to earth yet career driven character. She is the type I would love to have as a friend. Atticus just compliments her so well. He is so sweet and caring and supportive. I adore these two together. I love the supportive group of friend. I honestly wish I had this group of characters any my friends!

I absolutely loved reading this book. Between the laughs, the swooning, and all the emotions that came from this, I can truly say this is a book you should read. I adore everything about this book and can’t wait to read more from Dee Lagasse. She is a true queen and phenomenal author!

Can I just admit how whole heartedly I loved this book? Birdie was super realistic. I adored her from the moment I read her first line in the book. And the more we learned about her the more I felt connected with her and I’m sure a lot of others who read this will feel the same way. Atticus. Where do I even begin? He’s a decent guy! Sure he’s an actor but the fact that he’s still down to earth and is a fan nonetheless makes it all the more better. I feel like while reading this story I got to know the author more. I don’t know her personally but after reading this book I’d feel like we’d be great friends as weird as that sounds but… this is one of those books that you can tell the author has put her heart and soul into, her entire being and it’s something to be so freaking proud of. It’s makes the story feel more relatable. I just devoured this story and I would highly recommend this to everyone. He’ll, I already told one of my friends that he needs to get this book when it comes out. This book is amazing. Dee, you did such a great job and you should be so flipping proud of yourself for this book. Seriously!

Birdie Yamamoto, creator and lead writer of the Suffra-Jette comic series, has had a celebrity crush on actor Atticus Cohen ever since he starred (and had numerous shirtless scenes) in her favorite teen drama series on TV, so to say that she's thrilled to have him play the love interest in the upcoming movie based on her comics might be something of an understatement. Unfortunately, Birdie's illusions are shattered when she overhears part of a conversation and takes something Atticus says out of context, leaving her with the impression that he doesn't respect her feminist values as represented in the comic and movie. She starts giving Atticus the cold shoulder, and it's not long before someone working on the movie leaks the news that Atticus and Birdie aren't getting along on set. In need of some good publicity to counteract the bad, Suffra-Jette's social media director suggests that Birdie and Atticus pretend to date. She agrees for the sake of the movie, but after she learns that she misjudged Atticus and he's actually been harboring a crush on her too, can he convince Birdie to give their relationship a real shot?

Not only was this book laugh-out-loud funny and sweet, certain parts of the story gave me all the feels, and I absolutely loved it. I really liked how quickly Atticus and Birdie became friends after the initial misunderstanding was addressed - which, I would add, was handled maturely and without a lot of unnecessary drama. Everything about Atticus and Birdie's relationship just felt so natural and easy, and I loved their chemistry and banter. They had their fair share of obstacles to overcome, but they made a fantastic couple, and it was a lot of fun cheering them on to their HEA.

I highly recommend "The Comic Con" for all romantic comedy fans and look forward to more stories featuring this group of friends.

This was such a super cute read!!!! I loved Birdie and Atticus together they made me swoon as I read the pages. There was one prince charming like thing that Atticus did ( I won't say it in case its spoilery) but mannnnnnnn I wanted to live in these pages––even if for only that moment.

I loved the underlying theme of girl power in this book.

As a newly minted marvel fan I appreciated that comic books and superhero movie that was going on in the background. It made me want to start my marvel saga all over again!

If you get a chance to read this super cute contemporary/romcom romance DO IT! ASAP!

Amazing! Fantastic!
You won't be able to put this book down once you read the first sentence to the vary last.

It's not just your standard hot guy finds nerdy girl attractive story and falls in love. This story has so much more. From all the female characters and each being so different from one another and still being friends and crushing it in the movie industry to the handsome main male character not being a huge ego maniac because he's a celebrity.

This story is one of my 2022 top reads can't wait to get the merch so I can match the girls in this series!!

I have been excited for this book since it was announced. Growing up, comic books weren't seen as a "girl" thing, and so I didn't know many who enjoyed them like I did. I know the author is also a fan, so I was ready. And I wasn't disappointed. I LOVE Birdie! I love her team of empowered and supportive women. I love women in comics. I laughed and I had tears! I can't wait to see what's coming!

I won an ARC of this book in a contest on another author’s page and promised an honest review.

This is my first Dee Lagasse book, but it will not be my last. Comic Con is a delightful romantic romp with several positive messages contained within it. Never in a preachy or plot derailing way, it is an essential part of the story arc. I’ve seen this tried many times, but it is a minority that manages to pull it off. I’ve never seen it done better than here, in truth.

I fell utterly in love with the female protagonist. The male lead was someone I wanted to hang with at a bonfire. The rest of the secondary and tertiary characters were all well-drawn.

I highly recommend this book. Now, if you’ll excuse me; I need to go binge my way through Ms. Lagasse’s catalog.

This book will have smiling from the first paragraph, the first sentence even! Dee has a way of creating characters that instantly feel like a friend and Birdie will instantaneously become your bestie. Atticus is the best book boyfriend to fall in love with, he is so everything.

Birdie and Atticus’s journey as you read will put you through all the feels, it was amazing watching the grow. Dee has a brilliant way of bringing family to her books, traditional or non-traditional, and The Comic Con exceeds in that. While it is full of these outstandingly strong women who support each other each step of the way, it make you feel like you are one of them, like you are family too. When they inspire each other, it will inspire you.

Dee has given us one of her best!

I salute Dee Lagasse for her whole concept of Comic Con and the Suffra--Jette world. It's almost revolutionary to bring a heroine who is an artist, a comics nerd, a comics writer and doing amazing things in the comics world. Birdie is someone all of us can identify with in some way. And then she brings an amazing hero who is made of dreams and desires. The sweet and sharp banter. The wicked emotions. The adorable chemistry. This is one of those landmark books I will not forget in a long long time.

Birdie is the creator of the massively successful female superhero Suffra-Jette and now it is being made into a movie! And the love interest is played by her long time celebrity crush Hollywood heartthrob Atticus Cohen. Due to some misunderstandings, the media thinks that they don't like each other. To save the movie from negativity, they are asked to fake date. Only..it slowly starts to feel very real.

I literally clapped my hand in glee when I got this book. This is all about breaking stereotypes. Like women don't read or love comics. Like women don't belong to the creative side of comics. Like women cannot be nerdy and sexy at the same time. Like women cannot have curvy body and sharp mind at the same time. This story is talking about feminism and gender equality and body positivity and so many important topics in a relatable and powerful way. And it never side tracked the romance part. Birdie was definitely hesitant and doubtful because they belong to two different world and she is just so confident everywhere except matters of heart. But this man just bulldozed his way through. Charming. Gorgeous. Kind. Loyal. The kind of man who doesn't think twice to go extreme ways to support his woman ( and the whole cause in general). The kind of man who can respect and admire his woman's talent but also act alpha protective in all appropriate ways. Really, Atticus is the real deal. They form this sweet friendship that goes stronger every day till they fall for each other. It was not without difficulties. The pressure of celebrity life. The pressure of living upto their own expectations. But they are truly made for each other. I am so excited to read more about the fabulous women of Suffra- Jette team. I cannot tell you how many times I came close to crying because the situations hit close to home for a nerdy curvy comic lover woman.

PS EXTRA POINT TO THE AUTHOR FOR BEING TEAM MARVEL. Is there any other team?

"I'm weak. He makes me weak."

The Comic Con was just the story I needed right now! Not only did it have one of my all time favorite tropes (fake relationship) but I loved that it made me laugh one minute and feel all the feels the next minute. Everything about this story was unique, quirky and heart warming. I can truly say I've never read a story like this one before. I would give it 5 stars on creativity along. I have always been a fan of this authors stories but this one is definitely in my top two favorite books by this author now! I could name so many reasons why I loved this story but most of all I loved the complete and total women empowerment. From start to finish this book was all about breaking down all kinds of stereotypes. From having a curvy plus sized heroine with ADHD to showing YES, even women can love and be obsessed with superheroes and comic books just like men. I adored this story allowed women to understand you can still be sexy while also being be a little nerdy sometimes. I definitely finished this book feeling more inspired then when I started it.

"Everyone will tell you there's no such thing as a perfect person, but Birdie was my person."

I could rave about this books characters all day long. I was well and truly obsessed with not just the Hero and heroine but all the side characters as well. This author has a knack for writing close knit big families that suck you in. Leaving you to truly feel like your apart of their circle by the time you finish the story. Birdie and Atticus are easily one of my favorite couples from any book. I just can't stress enough how I've never read characters so unique and quit like these two. Not to mention y'all their chemistry was seriously so swoon worthy!! Spoiler alert they don't lack on the romance spectrum either! Plus I could have read their easy quirky banter ALL day long! The engagement Birdie and Atticus brought from the pages to the readers deserves major kuddos! I found them both to be some of the most relateable and down to earth characters I've read. Which in turn made flying through their love story a breeze!

*5 STARS*
Are so well earned with this story!! I would rate it so many more if I could. I won't even lie when I say everything about this book surprised me in all the best ways of course. I honestly can NOT recommend reading this book enough. It is just down right a BEAUTIFUL story throughout.

Title: The Comic Con
Author: Dee Lagasse
Hero/Heroine: Atticus & Birdie
Trope: Fake Relationship

TW/CW: Mention of adoption, death of parents, stalking

THE GOOD 😀

A story with a curvy, super talented comic book artist and a feminist actor hero, I mean what’s not to love? From the very first chapter, I was swept up in Atticus and Birdie’s story.
Birdie, our loveable heroine, is preparing herself to be the centre of attention when Suffra-Jette, the comic she created with her two friends, gets turned into a movie. Arriving at the table read, she immediately embarrasses herself in front of Atticus Cohen, the gorgeous actor hired to play the male lead in the movie. Right from the get go, I adored every exchange between Atticus and Birdie as it just felt so natural. Even though there was a bit of a misunderstanding between them, it was dealt with in a mature way that didn’t bring too much drama.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the story and characters. Both Atticus and Birdie were extremely likeable characters, and they had a bit of a tragic backstory that bonded them together. Atticus was the ultimate feminist hero who always had Birdie and his colleagues best interests at heart. He and Birdie had incredible chemistry, and I was praying for them both to get their happy ending.
The Comic Con was an addictive, feel good read from start to finish, and I cannot wait to read more from this talented author.

THE BAD ☹️

Not a thing.

Thank you to the author and @wilfiremarketingsolutions for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

“For every woman who has been told or made to feel like you couldn’t do something just because “you’re a girl.” You are enough. You’re more than enough. You’re a superhero.”

This quote sums up the feel of this story in the best way. This book is empowerment personified. It’s love, passion and friendship. Birdie is one of my favorite heroines to date EVER! Her kindness, compassion, empathy, down to earth nature, and her fearlessness just scratch the surface of what I love about her.
Then there is Atticus…if there was ever a perfect character to wish they were your husband, Atticus is that for me. He’s just so selfless, caring, and just genuinely great guy down to the very core of his soul.
Together Birdie and Atticus are complete couple goals! The passions they share, their affection and love for one another, and this gut feeling that they are just Peter Parker and Mary Jane brought to life is very real. The connection and chemistry between them is so real and authentic. I can picture them being a real, living, breathing couple.

More than anything though, I’m just absolutely smitten with this story. Seeing females taking a stereotypical “man’s world” by storm, having success, kicking butt and taking names, and inspiring a new generation of young women and girls to chase their dreams is awe-inspiring. The Suffra-Jett girls are people I genuinely want to be best friends with. Their unwavering support and encouragement of one another is truly beautiful.

I left this story feeling equal parts swoon-worthy happiness and empowered ready to take the world by storm.

This is hands down one of my favorite books of ALL-TIME! ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️

Birdie Yamamoto created a famous comic book called Suffra-Jette with a female superhero, and now it is going to be made into a movie! Hollywood heart throb and the object of Birdie’s teenage affection, Atticus Cohen landed a leading role in the film. Unfortunately, Birdie and Atticus don’t hit it off and they are starting to get bad publicity. The two decide to enter into a fake relationship to manage the bad press, but things start to feel real as they get to know each other better.

This romance novel was very sweet. This is not a spicy romance, but I really enjoyed both of the characters. Birdie and her friends are trailblazers in the male dominated comic book world. She is so kind and inspirational, but she has severe anxiety. Atticus was really thoughtful and nurturing. He really went out of his way to make Birdie feel special and cherished. I also loved that both of them have such special relationships with their families despite struggles that they each had in their childhood.

I hope we get more stories from this world. The side characters were really great.

I loved the cover of this book and thought the premise sounded different than any other movie star romance, so I couldn’t wait to read it! It’s a quick moving, funny, and empowering read that gives a look at the making of a movie based off a comic book written by Birdie, our FMC. The romance starts right away as you can feel the chemistry from the first time she talks to Atticus, who is playing in the movie and also happens to be her teenage crush.

We get both POVs, and Atticus is just the sweetest guy, especially for a movie star. Birdie is so real and relatable with a really interesting back story. I love that even though Atticus is big in Hollywood, he has no problem playing a supporting character to Birdie as she makes her own way in that world.

There is a little steam and although I wouldn’t necessarily say it is “closed door,” the scenes are quick and not very descriptive. A good rom com wouldn’t be complete without a great group of friends, and this one definitely has that as well as loving family and the cutest husky!

First of all, I would like to thank Dee and the promotional team for giving me this amazing opportunity to be able to read this book early. It's truly an honor. I've been waiting for this story sooo bad!

This is my first time reading Dee Lagasse's book and definitely not the last. I am a fan now. Her writing style is amazing and beautiful.

Birdie and Atticus story got me hooked since the very first page. It has everything that I love. Plus size romance and fake relationship?! THE BEST TROPE EVEER!

Birdie is a strong character. She is successful, beautiful, an artist, a comic girl, and above all she is ATTICUS ONE AND ONLY WOMAN!

Atticus is one hella sexy character. He's an actor, loves spoiling her baby girl and her friends, loyal and the best partner for Birdie.

THEY DESERVE ALL THE LOVE!

This story taught me to never give up on my dreams. To always trust yourself and your abilities.

I give this book a 5 star because I freaking love it! I got hooked since from the very beginning!

I can't wait to read more from this amazing author

My comic book loving heart just fell in with this book. This book is about comic book creator, Birdie, who is now having it bought to life on the big screen! She requested that Atticus, a famous actor, come in to star in the movie as one of the main characters. After a misunderstanding on the movie set, word gets out that they are either together or hate one another. So they decide to spin it for the good of the movie to have a fake relationship. I think we all know how those can go from bad to good to bad to good, etc! You just have to grab this heartwarming, hilarious, sweet book to find out just what is going to happen with Birdie and Atticus. The secondary characters and the banter in this book just brings it to life. I loved everyone in this book so much. Birdie is an amazing heroine, strong, independent, fierce! Atticus is just the best, sweetest guy ever….even in the parts that I wanted to hate him I just couldn’t because his heart is so pure!! I want more from this series!!! I want the other characters stories!!

Oh my gosh, this book was absolutely delightful, and I totally needed it in my life! It was fun and sweet, and goodness gracious I always love fake dating romances! This one really caught my attention from the blurb, but kept it throughout the story! Birdie is absolutely amazing and definitely someone I would love to be friends with. The main man, Atticus, is pretty awesome too, but Birdie is the one that really sold the story for me!

All in all this book was a delight to read, it was fun and entertaining and if you are looking for a book along those lines, you need to check this out ASAP! I totally give it 4.5 outta 5 stars and enjoyed every minute of reading it!

PS: Thank you to Dee Lagasse and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

“The Comic Con” is a fun and lighthearted rom-com that had me turning the pages as I read about Birdie and Atticus. This is the perfect book to read when you need something lighthearted after a tough day because it will leave you with a smile on your face.

Birdie has loved comic books her whole life and has a successful series, Suffea-Jette, and it’s being turned into a Hollywood movie. Atticus has been cast as the leading hero and there is some tension between him and Birdie. When her friend suggests that they fake-date so fans know that the movie is going well, they both weren’t expecting any feelings to develop.

Birdie and Atticus were super cute together. I loved all the interactions and really felt the connection between the two characters. Birdie is a hardworking woman and followed her passion of comic books to have a career and live the ultimate comic fantasy, have it turned into a movie. Atticus was so sweet and caring that you couldn’t help falling for him like Birdie did. And rescued his dog so that just adds another point in his favor. I found myself rooting for them throughout the story because I wanted them to real-date. I hope we get more from the secondary characters, they were a joy to read about.
