I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Shot Across the Bow is the fifth book in the Deep Six series. I was eager to slip back into the world the author created and to learn more about the featured couple, Mia and Spiro, aka Romeo. Walker piqued my curiosity about Mia and Spiro with the details she teased me with in Deeper than the Ocean.

Mia and Romeo share a mutual attraction, but refuse to acknowledge their feelings for each other. Romeo is not to type to settle down and to him Mia reeked of relationship material. While Mia believed, Romeo was out of her league, especially given her past. However, when the airplane they were travelling on was blown out of the sky and left them stranded on a deserted island, they were forced to confront their feelings.

I had a lot of fun with Shot Across the Bow. The wicked banter between the characters had me cracking up. Also, the romance which developed was passionate and sweet. The  author also treated us to another potential romance, of which more details will be provided in the next installment.

Mia and Romeo shared a special bond. She saw beyond his handsome face to the wonderful and caring person on the inside. They shared special moments. However, the moment which stood out was their shared love for a particular paranormal romance series. There were moments where Mia would read several chapters to him most nights.

Danger abounds, with Mia being the main target. This aspect of the story had me on the edge and I feared for all who were on the receiving end of the attack. Learning the identity of the main perpetrator of the attack came as no surprise.

The details relating to tragic incidences in Mia’s past came to light, which added a somber mood to the story. It made me happy when she finally got answers. Answers, which enabled her to cease casting blame on herself and embrace the happily ever after she so rightly deserved.

Shot Across the Bow delivered an intriguing tale of jealousy, greed, friendship and love. The story was delightful from start to finish. I am so looking forward to the next book.

This may be Mia and Romeo's love story, but it's also Cami and Doc's extended foreplay. Cami and Doc have some great banter going and I can't wait for the next (and sadly, last) book of this series. This book was wonderful and if you like a little mystery/suspense with your hot romance this is the perfect series for you. I have loved them all.

When Mia Ennis accepted the job as Marine Archaeologist for Deep Six Salvage, it was just another job. Moving from job to job all over the world was what Mia did to try and out run her painful and tragic childhood memories. She is careful not to get close to anyone and that can be a lonely way to live. Until Romeo.

Spiro "Romeo" Delgado is a former gang member from South Central L.A. who was rescued from that life by a judge who gave him a choice: jail or military service. He chose the Navy and excelled to become a Navy SEAL. As he learned that his handsome face could be as much a curse as a blessing, he believed that the love em' and leave em' life was all he wanted or needed. Until Mia.

Mia and Romeo have become good friends, but each wants more and is afraid to ask for it. When Romeo's plane explodes, falls out of the sky and nearly kills Mia, Romeo, Doc and the sharp tongued lawyer, Cami, things get real serious real fast. The why of the explosion brings everyone involved to examine who in their lives would want them dead. The crash also makes Mia and Romeo realize life is too short not to grab all the passion they can from each other.

Former Navy Seals, deep sea treasure, plane crashes,a deserted island, shootings, a “brainy little strawberry blonde,” and Romeo. Romeo with “a face like a two-week paid vacation, a profile so beautiful that every woman from seven to seventy did a double take whenever he walked by.”

“In a word, yummy. In two words, holy crap! And in three words? Homina, homina, homina.”

This book was more than a love story full of steam. Don’t get me wrong, it was that but then there was the mystery of the crash and the bad guys and who they were after, there was Doc and the lawyer (hilarious), and Mia’s mother and the mystery surrounding the death of Mia’s brother. All woven together into an easy to read, hard to put down book.

“...what he’d written to her the last night of his life, changed...everything.”

The best part, Romeo and Mia read romance books together. Well, she reads them and he listens. He loves her voice, her raspy, broken voice. When they read the sex scenes, you know the ones that work you up quite a bit even though you are only reading the words. Well, they use those sexy words and thoughts and ideas for their own inspiration. How awesome is that!

“I fell in love with the way you spoke to me without ever saying a word.”

An intriguing friends-to-lovers, opposites-attract romance, Shot Across the Bow is the fifth book in Julie Ann Walker’s Deep Six series. I was so excited to read Romeo and Mia’s story, and it did not disappoint! With tons of action, adventure, romance, and steam, the book is a fabulous addition to the series.

Romeo and Mia are both compelling protagonists, and I loved how their stories, both as individuals and as a couple developed. These friends have so much in common, yet they both struggle with their feelings. Past traumas, horrible upbringings, and fear of commitment prove difficult obstacles for them, as do the people who seem to be targeting one of them. However, as the danger increases, their feelings rise to the surface. They just have to decide if they should take the risk and reveal their true romantic feelings or if they should keep quiet and remain friends.

The chemistry between Mia and Romeo is sizzling, and their spicy scenes are super swoon-worthy and filled with passion. Mia and Romeo are two people who feel they don’t deserve each other, but they can’t resist their feelings and how they feel when they are together. Fear of ruining their friendship and fear that the other doesn’t feel the same way, as well as murderous antagonists and warnings from friends, prove to be difficult obstacles for this couple, but their electric chemistry and deep feelings for each other are strong even in the midst of the chaos they face.

There’s another potential love story introduced in this book that I’m eager to see explored in future books in the series. This bickering pair did not have the best introduction, but their chemistry is palpable. Though they argue a lot, it feels like foreplay and only adds to the sexual tension. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about them in the next book. They both have complicated and painful pasts, and I’m curious to see if their chemistry is as electric as it appears.

Something else I really love about this book and the series as a whole is the wonderful and deeply developed friendships introduced. There is a great found family in the ex-Navy Seals, and their love for each other is so evident. They work together and play together, and they are as close as friends can be. I love the comradery and hilarious banter among this group, and I also love how easily they welcome others into their fold. They are an accepting bunch, and their staunch support of and loyalty to each other have definitely helped them in some precarious situations.

Plane crashes, attempted murder, unsavory schemes, lies, betrayal, and sexy time stranded on a deserted island make for an engrossing read, and I found myself captivated by Romeo and Mia’s story. It’s a fast-paced novel with great characters, and I definitely recommend it to readers who enjoy romantic suspense. I’m so thankful to Julie Ann Walker for providing me a copy of the book. It is an exciting and steamy contemporary romantic suspense and a great addition to the Deep Six Series, and I look forward to reading more about the Deep Six heroes.

The Hunt for the Treasure continues….🤿

Shot Across the Bow is the fifth book in the Deep Six series and is full of suspense, twists and turns and of course romance😍 Mia and Romeo have been circling each other for months but are no closer to admitting that they have feelings for the other. When they leave to fly back to join the Crew…something goes wrong and they end up stranded😳 Even though this story focuses on Mia and Romeo, the introduction to the lawyer who is helping them when they eventually track down the treasure is stuck with them….the banter between Cami and Doc is priceless and enough to keep anyone in stitches🤣

Absolutely did not want to put this one down and I can’t wait to find out if they locate the treasure and if Doc and Cami can put aside their snappy comebacks and mix business with pleasure😉 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️

This series is driving me nuts! We/they are so close to finding the treasure, yet they keep getting slowed down. This whole book is one big slow down. While I'm glad that Romeo and Mia worked out their differences and glad that Mia got closure to what happened to her brother, I missed having the whole group there together. Yes Doc was there, with a new person, their lawyer Cami, who is a spitfire. I hope something happens between the two of them.

We get to the end of the book and they all finally learn where the treasure is, but can't look for it due to sticky legal ground. So frustrating! I want them to find the treasure, to see what it is, to see what they all do in the aftermath. Maybe next book.

This is the fifth book in the series, and I most definitely recommend that you read the series in order. We get the next stage in the story of the shipwreck from 1624 – and how the team now are getting ever closer to finding their hiding place.

I love every new installment and the guaranteed crazy as well as super sexy adventure that will follow. These guys are always courting trouble, and the ones who have not yet fallen in love court women wherever they may be. Romeo (Spiro) is aptly nicknamed, but since Mia joined the expedition, he has been struggling to find anyone more interesting. He is certain that she is a forever type of woman, and that he does not deserve one of those.

Ironically, Mia feels just like him, and after a lifetime of being belittled by her mother and blamed for a tragedy, she does not think herself worthy of any type of relationship at all. As readers, we know this before they do – so be ready for some shouting at the page, telling them to talk to each other!

We get to catch up with all the team, and find Doc heatedly arguing with the newly engaged lawyer, Camilla, which is hilarious and portends of good things for them in the future. I won't reveal more of that or the treasure hunting, but you will want to read on and fast!

Another action-packed, sexy, and engaging read – I am already hoping the next one finds it's way to publication really, really soon!

Triggers: Hidden because they may contain spoilers.

I suggest that you read this series in order, as you won't be disappointed.

Spiro has a history that makes him feel like he should just settle and be happy to be here. While we have grown to love Spiro, he is the typical alpha male character who has difficulties expressing himself.

Mia is whip smart, beautiful, and damaged. She knows that her past will prevent her from ever truly finding happiness, especially with a garbage excuse of a mother. With a past that haunts her, Mia finds happiness in the sea.

Spiro and Mia have kindred spirits and when they finally allow themselves to see and feel their mutual attraction, sparks fly.

Mia has questions about her past that seem just out of reach and when everyone is marooned after their plane is shot down, it will take everyone's wits to figure out who's after them, why, and to make it out alive.

Camille is another story. She seems strait-laced and uptight, but underneath it all, she's hilarious and won't take crap from anyone. I love the banter between her and Doc. It definitely sets up a fantastic next book.

I can't wait for the next installment. These have action, love, real life, and a bit of pirate hunting in them!

This is book 5 in the Deep Six series and I would absolutely read it in order as these books are building upon each other in a bigger story ARC. In this one we get Spiro “Romeo” Delgado and Mia Ennis's story. Romeo is hooked on staying a bachelor with no attachments. But when he meets Mia, not only is there an instant attraction but he genuinely likes her. But he keeps pushing her away, not wanting her to think there is more to them than what there is. Mia's past taught her that keeping people at arm length is safer than caring. But Romeo makes her feel safe-even with the attraction she feel's towards him. But when their plane crashes and her past makes a front and center appearance, it forces them to face their feelings head on. All while trying to survive.

I absolutely loved this installment! The way that Romeo and Mia are with each other is not only sweet but when they finally face their feelings-the chemistry is off the charts hot! I loved how everything between them comes about and how they are not only in love but they are friends who genuinely like each other. The introduction of a new character was great, and I loved the back and forth between her and Doc. The bigger story was pushed further as well, and I am still completely invested into knowing what happened with the crew and the treasure!! I can't wait to read the next story! These just seem to be keep getting better and better, so I know it will be great!

More adventure at sea, and this time we get some shipwrecked time! Mia and Romeo have been settled deeply in the friend zone, by choice. Which makes no sense because they are wildly attracted to each other. We learn why and the scars from their pasts that make them act and react the way they do. Some forced proximity resolutely pushes them into some steamy times and while they have some conversations, not enough, as things still fall apart. Only once truths from the past are unveiled are they both ready and willing to give their love the go it deserves. Fast paced, action, and adventure, and one couple figuring things out while another starts butting heads, this was a fantastic read!

Mia and Romeo are everything I expected them to be after the last book in the series. I enjoyed the tight focus of them and Doc and his soon to be lady love Cami which make the story that much more intimate. I can’t wait for the hopefully explosive finale.

SHOT ACROSS THE BOW is the fifth book in the Deep Six series and is the turn of Romeo and Mia. Romeo - as you can tell by the nickname - is a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy, whereas he thinks Mia has relationship written all over her. So, they both put each other in the dreaded #FriendZone, even though that's not where either of them wants to be.

If one good thing could come out of a plane crash, it's that it got them talking and stopped skirting around the edges. Once a certain conversation happens, all bets are off as to what will happen next. They both have a lot of emotional trauma and baggage to work through.

Doc and Cami meet for the first time in this book and the sharp-edged banter starts, which I think will continue all the way through their book. We don't see much of any of the others, and nothing at all of Wolf and Chrissy from book four.

There's not much at all of the historical story to this one, so I didn't get as much as I wanted, but that's probably just me. The mystery side of it didn't really grab me either as I thought it was quite obvious who was behind it, and what the reasons were.

On the whole, this was a steamy read with lots of sexual tension to begin with. I enjoyed this story and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Forget Shakespeare. THIS is the Romeo you've been waiting for!

Romeo, oh Romeo! Spiro 'Romeo' Delgado is drawn to Mia Ennis as helplessly as a moth to a flame. The hunka hunka burnin' love knows that she deserves better than his usual wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am routine so he plants her firmly in the friend zone. But when Mia's life is in danger the lines are crossed and the Latino lover wouldn't have it any other way.

There is plenty of action, adventure, and badassery as the hunt for the Santa Cristina continues, as well as the 3 H's (humor, heat, and hunky alpha males) that we've come to love. Shot Across The Bow is yet another outstanding addition to Julie Ann Walkers Deep Six series and I can't recommend it enough!

Terrific Friends to lovers story as the Deep Six team moves closer to finding the elusive treasure of the Santa Cristina. As the book opens, Romeo, Mia, and Doc prepare to return to Wayfarer Island while waiting for Alex and Mason to search the Spanish Archives for the key to the recently found code that might reveal its location. They need to collect the newly hired maritime lawyer who will hopefully protect their interests when they find it.

Romeo and Mia have been striking sparks since she first arrived on the island but firmly put each other in the friend zone. Romeo's reputation as a permanent bachelor is well-known, though the reasons behind it are heartbreaking. He'd love to get involved with Mia, but he believes that she has relationship written all over her, so he sticks to being friends. Mia doesn't let anyone get too close. A traumatic past has her convinced that she doesn't deserve anyone's love. I've loved watching their friendship develop, from their mutual love of a paranormal author's books to the fun banter and teasing between them. As time goes on, both Romeo and Mia realize they want more but fear of ruining their friendship and that the other doesn't feel the same way keeps them quiet.

The action picks up quickly when the lawyer, Cami, arrives at the airport, and Doc discovers she's his one-night-stand from the night before. Doc detests lawyers, and the zingers that fly between the two are like watching a rapid-fire tennis match. Add in the events of the night before, and their interactions are full of snark and sarcasm.

Complicating matters, during their flight, an explosion on board causes Romeo to have to crash land the plane in the ocean. The tension-filled moments as he struggled to keep control and as they fought to escape the sinking plane had me glued to the pages. A tiny deserted island gives them someplace to wait for rescue. They don't know that the explosion was no accident, and someone is unhappy that their target survived the crash. Though the reader is privy to the bad guys' plans, our intrepid foursome is clueless, though the SEALs' instincts warn there may be trouble.

In the meantime, the close call has been a wake-up call for Romeo and Mia. I loved that they finally admitted their attraction. It was wonderful to see them opening up to each other. Romeo is stunned to discover that Mia sees past the SEAL persona and his looks to the inner man, something nobody else has done. Mia shares her past with Romeo, her guilt over her brother's illness and death, and that he's the only person she's ever felt safe around. The chemistry between them is eclipsed only by the depth of feeling that goes with it, and each of them realizes they may be in a little deeper than expected.

The tension ramps up when the people responsible for the crash attempt to finish what they started. Going up against a pair of trained SEALs is never a good idea, and this was no exception. It's not a walk in the park, though, and there are some nail-bitingly intense moments before they are safe. It's not over, though, as Romeo ends up in the hospital, and one of the bad guys is still on the loose.

I had great hopes for the future of Romeo and Mia as they finally admitted to their feelings. I ended up wanting to shake Mia as she walked away from Romeo. She was positive that he would see her differently if he knew everything, so she didn't even try. I hurt for Romeo, who couldn't understand what happened. I loved his determination not to let her get away and couldn't wait to see what he would do. But it was Mia who made a discovery that broke the hold the past had on her. I loved her big moment when she arrived back on Wayfarer Island and the change it meant for both of them.

The book finished with Mason and Alex revealing what they'd learned from the deciphered code. But just when they think they can finally retrieve the treasure, lawyer Cami insists they hold off until she can finish her research on who gets dibs on the treasure - Deep Six or the Feds. I ached for the crew, who were so close to their goal but stuck having to wait even longer. I can't wait to read the next book and see how it all turns out.

I'm also looking forward to the next book and seeing more of Doc and Cami. The antagonism between them in this book does little to hide the sparks of attraction. I loved watching their interactions and how they thrived on their snarky exchanges. They are well-matched in intelligence and stubbornness, and I enjoyed how they pushed each other.

SHOT ACROSS THE BOW is the fifth instalment in Julie Ann Walker’s contemporary, adult DEEP SIX romantic suspense series focusing on a group of former US Navy SEALs who own and operate a marine salvage business-Deep Six Salvage. This is former Navy SEAL Spiro ‘Romeo’ Delgado, and marine archeologist Mia Ennis’s story line. SHOT ACROSS THE BOW can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. The DEEP SIX series is a spinoff from Julie Ann’s BLACK KNIGHTS INC series. Romeo and Mia’s story started in book four DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN.

SOME BACKGROUND: The DEEP SIX series follows six former military or special ops agents who, upon retirement, set up their own business running secret missions behind the scenes. Searching for the wreck of the Santa Cristina near Wayfarer Island, the Deep Six team continues to encounter terrorists, pirates and drug runners on their hunt for sunken treasure.

Told from several third person perspectives including Romeo and Mia, Doc and Cami, SHOT ACROSS THE BOW follows the Deep Six team as they continue their search for a sunken treasure off Wayfarer Island but three members of the team-Romeo, Mia and Doc-along with property attorney Cami D’Angelo find themselves stranded on a small, remote island when an explosion sends their plane into the ocean, an explosion that may have targeted one of the people on board. As the foursome set about making a temporary shelter, past histories reveal startling revelations wherein anyone could have been in the direct line of fire. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Romeo and Mia, and the potential fall-out as the foursome find themselves facing down more than one gunmen when the true target is revealed.

Meanwhile, Dalton ‘Doc’ Simmons finds himself in an acrimonious relationship with the team’s property attorney Cami D’Angelo, a relationship fraught with palpable sexual attraction disguised by animosity, fueled by circumstance.

The relationship between Mia and Romeo is one of immediate attraction but Mia’s past refuses to let go, controlling all of her actions going forward. Believing she is not worthy of love, Mia is constantly pulling away from the man with whom she will fall in love, a man who has made it clear, he too wants nothing permanent going forward.Stranded together, Mia and Romeo find themselves acting on their mutual attraction, an attraction that is quickly crossing the line from friendship to love. The lone $ex scene is passionate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include Mason McCarthy and Alexandra Merriweather; LT Anderson and Olivia, Dalton ‘Doc’ Simmons, attorney Cami D’Angelo, as well as Mia’s mother Jane Ennis, and her cousin Carter. Doc and Cami’s story line is next in DEAD IN THE WATER.

SHOT ACROSS THE BOW is a story of betrayal and vengeance, greed and jealousy, dysfunctional family dyanamics, friendships, relationships, sacrifice and love. The character driven premise is edgy and compelling but the guilty party is revealed early on, therefore the intrigue and suspense is limited; the characters are animated and dynamic; the romance is compelling and intimate.

The DEEP SIX series is an imaginative, detailed and impassioned series that reveals the destructive nature of greed and power across all walks of life.

“Okay, then. Let’s throw out our plans to stay forever single. Let’s see if two people who don’t have any idea how to make a relationship work can actually go the distance. Let’s give this...give us...a chance. Let’s be each other’s ride-or-die. What do you say?” - Spiro ‘Romeo’ Delgado

Fucking Romeo, ladies and gentlemen! The only guy from Deep Six that made me feel like an idiot for not swooning for him sooner!

Gotta love a man who can rock your world, then immediately beat the shit out of someone - while still naked after your lovemaking - and, oh, read smutty novels! Yes, my man, that's the way to go! And he was a romantic at heart, like, screw Wolf (you know I love you, sir, but it needs to be said), Romeo was the true husband material in this whole crew!

Mia was also a delight to read. Such a sweetheart, a girly girl but not in an annoying way. She makes you wanna hug her and protect her from the world.

While the leads in this book come from very different social backgrounds, they had both grown up in crappy families. They had their parents screw them fifty ways to Sunday all their lives, and they were paying the emotional price, so it was a true boon to see them find each other and realise there was nothing wrong with them at all. Healing and supporting each other in the best way possible.

The action and the suspense were off the roof with this book, more so than in others. Mainly because, this time around, there was no way the protagonists could get help, as no one had found them yet, stranded as they were. The emotional rollercoaster was also a nice touch and worked wonders to up the stakes.

Unfortunately, I'm not going to read the next book. Like, ever. Doc started out as my personal favorite in the beginning of this series, but he proved to be a real dick in this one. The way he treated Cami, just because he was bitter for not getting his thingie to work while drunk and she refused to accomodate him was pure crap. Like, hating on her for no valid reason other than her profession? Which, let me tell you, buddy, you guys hired her to exercise, so please shut the fuck up!

It's not even cute, like the "rivals/enemies to lovers" trope. It's just annoying, and I have no intention of watching a capable, likable woman like Cami get thrown around like the personal punchbag for the proverbial issues of Doc. Sorry, not sorry!

“ I’m tired of running. I’m asking for your friendship and understanding. I’m asking for your love. I’m asking you to be my home, Spiro.” - Mia Ennis

Spiro “Romeo” Delgado is a former Navy Seal. He and his six Seal brothers search for a particular Spanish sunken ship. Romeo has no intention of giving up on his womanizing ways. That is until he meets one Mia Ennis. Romeo fights against his building interest in the shy yet smart woman. When they find themselves marooned on a sandbar, he gives in to the inevitable. Can Romeo protect Mia from the threat following them? Or will he lose more than just his heart?
Mia Ennis is an accomplished marine archeologist. She helps the Deep Six guys by documenting the salvage process of the legendary galleon Santa Cristina. Mia hides a painful past that she fears will alienate herself from the others. She agrees to keep things amicable between herself and Romeo. However, the man tests Mia’s resolve. Things heat up between them when they end up stranded on a small island. Can Mia come to terms with her past? Or will it stand between her and Romeo?
Romeo is so much more than what I expected. He is a man blessed with a sexy face and incredible physique. However, Romeo proves that good looks bring its own set of complications and problems. I admire Romeo’s bravado and determination to become someone better. He escaped his crummy roots without his family’s approval or help. Romeo even wants to help kids like himself avoid that kind of future. What I adore the most about Romeo is how he comes to Mia’s defense. He tries to help her see past her mother’s lies to her true worth and beauty.
Mia is such a great fit for Romeo. Her quiet and reticent demeanor balances Romeo’s flirty, outgoing ways. They both come from dysfunctional families, which painted their outlook on their self-worth and relationships. I like Mia’s selflessness. She thinks of others before herself, even when that person is not so deserving. What I adore the most about Mia is how she sees past Romeo’s sexy appearance to the man beneath the façade. She acknowledges the qualities other women either overlook or dismiss openly.
SHOT ACROSS THE BOW is book five in Julie Ann Walker’s romantic suspense series, THE DEEP SIX. It is necessary to read the prior four books to understand the overall plot. I like how the author sets up the next couple for her upcoming book in the background. It makes me antsy for the next installment because I am already invested. I am still glad the author returned to this exciting series after a lengthy pause.
SHOT ACROSS THE BOW is a thrilling tale of two people overcoming not only danger but their insecurities to be together. I am bummed that this series is coming to an end. I simply cannot wait for Doc and Camilla’s story! It promises to be a good one!

THIS!

I love, love, love this incredible story! It’s intense in so many ways that is gives you a book hang over when you finish it!

The juicy intrigue surrounding the bounty from the sunken Santa Cristina has Romeo, Doc, Mia and their new attorney, Camilla, taking off in Romeo’s Otter plane on their way from Key West back to Wayfarer Island. There they are to wait for their teammates, Alex and Mason, to find the long, lost Cipher to decode their journal, therefore, locating the treasure they have been searching for!

I love the intensity of the atmosphere aboard the plane while on their way to the island. The group encounters plane trouble and all hell breaks loose when Romeo has to do a not-so-controlled crash into the ocean. They all suffer injuries, but Doc suffers the worst. Although this is a very serious situation, I enjoy the banter between the four as they manage to get themselves into the plane’s life raft and row towards a sandbar. The bickering between the group is very comical but also ramps up the intensity of their situation.

This book is so good and full of intricate details. We can’t forget there are villains at work here. It gets tense when we know the bad guys are closing in and the unsuspecting group are vulnerable sitting ducks! I won’t go any more into details because you just have to read this and it would spoil the exciting journey this story leads you on.

Let it be known, this story is packed full of twists and turns, emotional trauma, suspense and devilish mayhem. Then, when you think you have it all figured out, there comes a full dose of intense sexual chemistry and witty, tantalizing, arguments. In a nutshell, this story has it all! If you haven’t read the previous books in this series, you are doing yourself a disservice and missing a great series by this author. I highly recommend this book and the wild adventure you are about to go on!

Spiro ‘Romeo’ Delgado has been a player for most of his adult life. He keeps things simple and doesn’t get emotionally involved with women, but he is sorely tempted by Mia Ennis, a marine archeologist. In his younger years, he received a life-altering message from several people that he was unworthy of being loved. He believes that the only good thing about him is the way he looks. Most people don’t bother to look any deeper. Yet Mia does, and he is drawn to her in a way that is uncomfortable for him. Mia is drawn to Spiro as well, but understands that someone that handsome would never be interested in her. Because of these conflicts, they each place the other in the ‘friend zone.’ Mia is fighting her own demons as well, as she believes that she is indirectly responsible for the suicide of her little brother. This has caused her to shy away from friendships and relationships her whole life, because she feels like she is living a lie, and if people found out, they would see her differently.

The Deep Six Salvage team is under fire again, but instead of danger from the expected source of pirates and/or thieves hunting for the treasure of the Santa Cristina, the danger arrives from a completely different source. It takes a subset of the team most of the book before they understand who and what is causing the danger, which allows readers the chance to understand the conflicts that motivate both Spiro and Mia, and how these conflicts affect their day-to-day and long-term choices. There is action in this book, but it is mainly concentrated in a couple of places, and not scattered throughout the story. There are some tragic pieces in this story as well, but they ultimately lead to redemption and hope for both of these protagonists. Well done, Ms. Walker!

Shot Across the Bow is the 5th book in the Deep Six series by Julie Ann Walker, and it’s a stellar addition to the series. This time around we are dealing with friends to lovers, danger, and family issues.

Romeo is the charmer of the Deep Six group and Mia another smart, sassy scientist type. The two have been dancing around their attraction to each other for a couple of books. Both saying they just want to be friends. She thinks this because she doesn’t think she’s Romeo’s type aka pretty enough, and he because he thinks he doesn’t do relationships but really it’s because he doesn’t think he’s good enough for her.

The treasure hunting series arc takes a backseat to the romance and danger surrounding Romeo, Mia, Cami (new character) and Doc. The foursome are trying to survive when Romeo’s plane takes a hit and they have to do a crash landing.

While the group is trapped on a sandbar waiting for rescue, Romeo and Mia finally let go on the secrets they’ve been holding on about their family pasts. While trusting each other more than they ever have, they also finally let their chemistry take them to a place of pleasure.

While the two friends finally become lovers, Doc and Cami, the lawyer hired to help the Deep Six group with issues over rights to the booty of the treasure hunting adventure they’ve been on for the last few years, make connections to each other that I’m sure will resolve in the HEA in the last book of the Deep Six series, Dead in the Water.

We are nearing the end of the series, and I can’t wait to see Doc get an HEA and the group finally get the treasure they’ve been looking for (come on they have to, right? We’ll see).

Once more Julie Ann Walker takes all back to the FL Keys and the search of the Spanish Galleon Santa Cristina; this time, we are treated to the much anticipated, slow burned relationship between former SEAL Spiro “Romeo” Delgado and Dr. Mia Ennis, archeologist and pop culture fan. These two characters had been dancing around each others feelings for a couple of books now and I was more than ready to be witness to how they will bridge their “friends only” mentality and give themselves a chance to be together.

Romeo, the ultimate bachelor and guarded Mia gave us a beautiful story, with incredible chemistry and sweet vulnerable moments. They have move to be my favorite couple in the Deep Six series; a couple who reads each other romance books will do that! Also the unending banter between this family by choice will keep you coming for more… a line like “you have a face that will make onions cry” among dozens more will do that too. JAW took time to introduced Cami, the lawyer for the organization and future pain in the neck for Doc…if we take their “how do we meet” moment we will have another hit on our hands.

Shot Across the Bow may read as a stand alone book but it isn’t IMHO. For maximum enjoyment you NEED to know the story of this gang… Give it a chance and you will be completely transported to the salty, slow paced world that resides somewhere within the FL Keys and the Caribbean waters, looking for make history but ending having an unique, romance story worth of your time.
Five shinning starrs for Shot Across the Bow…can’t wait for Cami and Doc story!

I received ARC and these are my honest opinion and thoughts.

“You’re Nothing I Need, And I Am Not Anything You Should Want.”

Book Five in this series is written with a consistent trope that has taken shape in each book in the series. Each couple tries to convince themselves that they are not worthy of each other. Therefore, the dreaded words “we can be friends” enters into the picture. Also, trouble follows them due to the bad guys that have a vendetta against some member of the team. The men of Deep Six are all sexy and have a genuinely good heart. Their protector instinct never fails them and they are selfless to a fault. Each has also carried their demons with them. This book is no exception.

Romeo and Mia need each other to complete themselves but it takes most of the book to convince them of this fact. This time Mia’s family is responsible for a threat against her life and some team members. There is some angst that takes place toward the last portion of the book but not good enough to get that adrenaline pumping.

The search for the treasure on the Santa Cristina is really secondary to the storyline in this and all of the books prior in this series. The prologues and epilogues in this series give readers insight into the final days of the dedicated captain and crew of the ill-fated Santa Cristina and the valuable treasures they were bound and determined to keep out of enemy hands. I truly loved this well written segment of the story.

All in all, it was another enjoyable read. Looking forward to the final installment in the series with Doc and Cam’s story. Their verbal sparring is off the chart entertaining.

SHOT ACROSS THE BOW is book five in Julie Ann Walker’s romantic suspense series, THE DEEP SIX, and I think it is necessary to read the prior four books to understand the overall plot.

She is as broken as her voice, and it seems that he is totally out of her league. So thinks she. He thinks she is marriage material, and marriage was never on his mind.
On a deserted island danger is within the horizon, and it left me tearing my heart to peaces where Mia must have gone through in her past. She is able to look behind the nice facade of Romeos face ( but she loves to look in his face too, that's for sure :), and see his caring and sweet character. That's what she needs. And Mia is a great fit for Romeo. Her quiet and balanced, reserved and controlled manner balances Romeo’s flirty, outgoing ways.

I also loved the banter between Cami and Doc, what leaves me longing for their story.

Romeo and Mia are both compelling protagonists, and I loved how their stories, both as individuals and as a couple developed. The story has everything you require for a great book, many emotional thoughts from both characters , some really heart grieving about dysfunctional family dynamics, bad guys, suspense, romance and a fight to survive .
This book tells about people do not only fight danger but also their imperfections, and with this setting on a deserted island and Mia and Romeo I have to say I loved this book most.
For all readers who enjoy a good romantic - suspense story, please take a seat and enjoy .

I have been looking forward to this book for what feels like forever. Romeo and Mia have been dancing around each other since they met. Romeo is a lover of all things female and has no shame in admitting it. He has this idea of who and what Mia is, and it leads his misconceptions. He has however, been drawn to her and only her for a while, and it has been frustrating to him. Romeo has made a couple of comments that truly hurt Mia in a way that he didn’t understand but also because she didn’t let him. I love the dynamic of these two. They are truly good friend, and both have feelings for the other, but the way in which they live their lives neither believes it can truly be more.

As with the rest of this series, there are two different couples’ storylines running together. We also get snippets of Doc and Cami’s story and while you don’t get the full fleshed out story you get enough to keep you coming back. This series is continuing on with the hunt for the treasure of the Santa Cristina and the trials and tribulations of the search along with the attack on Mia’s life because of her not so good family. I really enjoy the way in which these stories unfold in a hourly time-line instead of being drawn out, and I can’t wit to get to the next book to see if maybe just maybe they get that treasure. Mia and Romeo get the HEA at the end, and you get just enough to know that Doc and Cami’s story is going to be just as explosive as the previous books.

I absolutely adore this book!

No plot spoilers
No potential triggers
There are some errors, mostly editorial such as missing words or words partially written. There is at least one instance of incorrect word use (alluding as opposed to eluding, totally different meaning)
Despite this, I have no problem recommending the book. It's so engaging I just couldn't put it down.
It's 3.15am and the story has occupied my attention all evening.
Julie Ann Walker knows how to write a rollicking good story. The humour is in your face funny on just about every page, sarcasm and super fast wit send hilarious wise cracks shooting across the seas that when combined with the internal dialogue and vivid descriptors used by the author it pulls the reader into the world of the Deep Six crew.
The characterisation is absolutely perfect, believable characters with distinct individual personalities that make you feel you know them personally, or wished you did!
The whole series is full of life, and of course, love and I have enjoyed each of them but this book was such an absolute delight to read it has become my favourite Julie Ann Walker go to for the feel good factor alone.
There are some sex scenes and plenty of swearing, if you are a fan of romance and suspense and excellent writing I can't recommend the author highly enough, and I can definitely recommend the authors Black Knights series.
I especially liked the presence of Dana in the preview for the next book in the series!

Book five in the Deep Six series includes Romeo and Mia and Cami and Doc.
Mia works for the state of Florida. It’s her job to go to different dig sites when bounty has actually been found. She’s a quiet thing with a world of hurt on her back. While we know Romeo for, well being a Romeo every time he hits Key West, Mia sees him as an extraordinary human she isn’t deserving of. It takes most of the book to piece together all her hurt.

Cami is the lawyer the team needs to determine if the bounty, found in land and/or sea belongs to the state of Florida or them. Cami is actually their lawyer but first she has to interpret the law. Cami meets Doc at the bar and yea, quiet, mysterious Doc, another Romeo. Next morning Romeo, Mia, Cami and Doc fly back to the island when something happens to their plane. We’re they shot down or blew up? Why? Is it about one of them or as a whole? As the plane sinks, one of the guys is injured, one of the couples starts their relationship and the other couple cannot stop swatting at each other.

Enter a few ruffians trying to take one of them out. Then a halt on where to look for the treasure next. Truly I am hoping Cami and Doc had such a strong part in this book so book six is a lot about finding the treasure and what happens to these six men and their women.

I have enjoyed this series but truthfully I wanted more buried treasure dialogue.

Shot Across the Bow is the fifth book in the Deep Six series by Julie Ann Walker. It’s the first book I have read from this series, and I don’t recommend reading them out of order. It was a great story and, I loved it, but I did feel like I was missing something.
So, if you haven’t read the previous Deep Six books, start with book one, Hot as Hell.

This story belongs to Mia Ennis and Spiro ”Romeo” Delgado. Romeo is a former Navy Seal, who isn’t proud of his past, and doesn’t believe in long-term relationships. He’s trying to be content in his friendship with Mia, but it’s getting harder and harder to keep his hands to himself. Mia Ennis is the team’s marine archaeologist. She, too, has a troubled past, and her friendship with Romeo is confusing. She wants more than friendship, but in her mind, she may not deserve it.

Twisted families, plane crashes, and deserted islands fill this story with intrigue and heartbreaking drama. Friendships evolve most deliciously, the flirting is fun, and the sex scenes sizzle.
Shot Across the Bow will leave you on a Happily Ever After high and eager for the next installment of the Deep Six saga. I can only assume book six, Dead in the Water, will be the story of Doc and Cami, and I can’t wait.

Romeo and the rest of the guys of his SEAL team, left the Navy after one of their team members needlessly lost his life. They decided to retire and run a salvage operation and hunt for some lost treasure. Romeo is a confirmed bachelor. He doesn't ever plan on settling down with one woman. When Mia Ennis comes into his life, he can't stay away from her. When her life is in danger, he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe. Mia is an acclaimed marine archeologist hired by the crew to catalog and document anything of historical value they may find.

This is a great action packed read with wonderful characters and storyline. I've loved everything I've read by Walker and this is no exception. She knows how to weave a tale with plot twist and plenty of suspense. She writes characters with depth and makes them come to life in the pages of the book. This book is part of an awesome series, however, it can be read as a stand alone book with no problem. If you love murder, mystery, and mayhem mixed then you will love this book. A group of growly former SEAL's, thrilling scenes, great dialog and witty banter makes this book is a must read.

I received a free review copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
