At your dying mother's bedside seems like a pretty out-there place to meet the girl of your dreams, but that's exactly where Hayden Crewe, the hottest rock star of the moment, meets Briar. It's the worst possible timing; they are both seriously emotionally compromised and the pressures of a life lived in the intense glare of the media spotlight seem bound to drive them further apart. Still, love will find a way even in the darkest times, and that's what happens in Between Breaths... love, eventually, does find a way, though there are some pretty tough obstacles that Hayden and Briar have to overcome along the way.

This is an emotional roller-coaster of a book; Alexa Padgett does an amazing job of portraying the difficult emotions necessarily suffered by the nearest and dearest of dying loved ones. Hayden and Briar begin the story a great deal already in common, and through the story even more is revealed, such that it soon becomes apparent that they are perfect for each other far beyond their initial physical attraction. The sex scenes are hot and realistic, the chemistry between Hayden and Briar obviously off the charts from the beginning, but their relationship is so much more than that.

I loved this book. It made me smile, it made me laugh, and at times it made me want to weep with emotion. It's powerful writing, the characters are extremely relatable and the emotions they experience are beautifully described.

There is, however, one small issue I'd like to raise; one of Hayden's bandmates, Ets, has a major issue with Hayden 'settling down' to the extent that he actually attempts to sabotage the relationship, on more than one occasion. One of those actions consists of him sending a 'groupie' in to Hayden while he is in the shower, despite Hayden having made it clear that he isn't interested in any such thing.

If the genders were reversed and a strange man had been sent in to join a woman in the shower, this would be a shocking act of sexual assault. I can't quite get past it, and knowing that the next book in the series is Ets' 'happy ever after story'? I just can't. Some acts are unforgivable. I don't believe that he DESERVES one, after those actions. The author did too good a job of making him into the bad guy.

I'm happy to give this book five stars... but I'll be giving the next one in the series a miss.

Hayden Crewe loves his job and the perks that come with it. But then his plans change. Briar Moore isn’t sure where she wants her personal life to go. She’s a woman with a lot of passion and it comes through as we get to know her. What impressed me was that the author didn’t have our two main characters meet right away. We get to see some of who they are first and what’s going on in their lives that eventually brings them together. A disappointment was not actually being able to hear Hayden’s band play as I was reading.

This is a story which shows that sometimes even in grief something can flourish. Our author reminds her readers that not all families are like the Nelsons or the Reeds (yes I know that these two families may be a little old for some of you readers). Families split for one reason or another but I think it’s sad to think of someone – especially a parent – dying alone. Sometimes we just need someone to show us the way. It’s a story that develops over time – this is how we fall in love with the characters.
There are also ups and downs – just like in any relationship.

Life is hard and not always kind but having someone there with you helps. The sad moment for me was not knowing more about the characters that are introduced in book one of the series. The good news is that I can go back and see what Dahlia and Asher are all about. And not knowing about their backstory did not take anything away from my enjoyment of reading Hayden and Briar’s story. This is one of those books that shows why authors are so good at what they do – creativity. Just because I know how to speak, think, and write my name doesn’t mean that I’m creative enough to think up and create a whole world for two people that don’t exist. I found Ms. Padgett’s ending to be interesting because I didn’t feel that it was an ending at all. It felt open-ended so it will be interesting to see how she continues this series.

I received this book for review from RBTL World of Books Blog Tours and the author. I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review.

The tension this couple goes through kept me up half the night, as I just couldn't find a good point to stop for the night! This author is fast becoming one of my top 10 fave authors!!

Though she's nursing a broken heart, Briar Moore has promised herself that she'll no longer live her life for others. She'll live life her way and is intent on enjoying every minute of it. Granted, her mind and heart refuse to let go of the past, reminding her of the little things at every turn. All that changes when she comes across the gorgeous Hayden Crewe. He's everything she never knew she wanted in a man, something her mind and body remind her of every time they're together.

Another great read, Alexa has given us a second titillating read to sink our teeth into. This time, we get to see Briar's story told in all its glory. She and Hayden mesh in such wonderful ways. The heat between them is both sweet and sexy.

These two character complement each other just as much as Dahlia and Asher do. I love the fact that the author has kept things centered around this wonderful family and the friends they meet along the way. Granted, not everything is hunky-dory between all of them, but we get to see these characters grow every step of the way. These characters have been constantly dealt hard blows. Life hasn't been kind, but they've all managed to come out on top.

The Seattle Sound series is definitely a series you'll want to pick up and dive into. Alexa gives us diverse stories that are tied to one another in more ways than one. I'm so looking forward to book three. So can't wait!

I loved this book as much as book one of the series. Between Breaths is an emotional, drama filled story - sometimes sweet, sometimes sexy, and sometimes painful. Hayden is a member of a famous Australian rock band and Briar, who lives in Seattle, is in the midst of huge changes in her life when they meet at a hospice for the dying. His estranged mother is in the room next to a woman that Briar treasures. Finding comfort in each other, their attraction leads to a few passionate days and nights that neither wants to end, but can they can overcome all of the strikes against them?

Alexa Padgett made me really care about these characters. The story pulled me in and held me fast until the very satisfying end. I am looking forward to reading the next book of the Seattle Sound series.

Between Breaths

This second book is about the sister of the first. She had been in a three year relationship but it ended when the other book did. Here you find out why. At the same time her best older friend has been placed in hospice care. And time is running g out. Her ex wants her back, but not because he loved her. While sitting with Rosie she meets a man from Australia. A lead singer for a hot band. They connect. But he is only in the US until his mother dies. Now is the story line. Will they be able to grow together? Or will the difference in their lifestyle out a wedge between them?

Between Breaths “Seattle Sound Series, Book 2” by Alexa Padgett

Book 2 of the Seattle Sound Series picks up with Briar Moore, and her story. In the previous book, Sweet Solace, Briar broke up with her uptight, oncologist boyfriend after being together for three looong years. He tried to put her in a box of his making and nearly conned her into motherhood. Now it’s time to find herself and what her next career will be. Everything falls to the side when she finds out a good friend has terminal cancer and has been placed in hospice. Hayden Crewe, of the Australian band, Jackaroo, is a rising star and is enjoying yet another city that can’t get enough of him or his band members. That is until he gets a call from Seattle about his mother. She is in stage four pancreatic cancer and in hospice. He is on the next flight to plan for her care and then back to fame and fortune. He doesn’t have time for a mother that left him as a child.
What Hayden and Briar find is a budding romance between two people that have both been hurt by their mothers. Both are struggling with their past and find support in each other. Briar balances and calms Hayden, by bringing him back from the precipice of the turmoil with his mom. He breaks down her walls that she has so carefully built up over the years. They decide to enjoy the time they have until he needs to return to the stage, but will it last once they get back to the real world?
Between Breaths Had me laughing, sighing, and crying with the same paragraph at times. The words he used to share, his innermost feelings with Briar about his past made him a tarnished hero, but one that needed his fairytale. This book literally made me put the book down so I could catch my breath more than once.

This is book two in The Seattle Sound Series and it is Briar and Hayden's story. Hayden is part of the band Jackaroo where he played the piano and sang and as there popularity grew so did there stardom and now they are on tour when he gets a phone call saying that his mother who he hasn't seen for years is in a hospice in Seattle and she is dying so he decides to go and hopefully get the answers that he needs to find some closure. Briar has just finished her relationship with her long term boyfriend as they wanted different things and he was also manipulative so now she was trying to get her life back together which was proving harder than she thought. Briar and Hayden met at The Bevins-Kline Hospice Care Facility where Hayden's mother was and Briar was visiting someone who was special to her and neither had long to live and that gave them a unique connection. The more time that Hayden and Briar spend together the stronger there chemistry and feelings for each other grows but time is short and Hayden needs to get back to his band and tour but where does that leave Briar as they live thousands of miles away so what will the outcome be for them only time will tell. Omg this book was absolutely amazing and so emotional in places that it had me in tears and I couldn't put it down but it was still totally addictive and I loved how we had the return of some of the characters from the previous books. Alexa Padgett is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention and I can't wait to read more of her books as they are definitely worth reading.

This was a really good book , great story and a very emotional read at times and I really enjoyed it.
I would definitely recommend it , it would of been 5 stars however , but I can't review this without mentioning the huge red flag that made me cringe and tainted the overall experience (early in the book ) thankfully the extensive over use of " Aussie-isms " as the author described them , got fewer as time went on .
As an Australian myself I have to point out that we do not speak like that , the only people I've heard of say " Crikey " and " G'day mate " are Steve Irwin and Paul Hogan , back in the 80s possibly !
And to describe someone as "taller than a koala up a eucalyptus tree eating leaves " was to be blunt ( ridiculous ) sorry .
And "it's your cricket match " during sex , said no one ever !!
I'm sorry , I honestly mean no disrespect to the author and I definitely will read more of her books , I just had to try and dispell the Australian stereotype that often is portrayed .

I received this book free from instant freebie and I am voluntarily writing an honest review. Briar is a down on her luck, an unemployed journalist due to the fact she would not write about her sister's famous rock star boyfriends nasty divorce. To make things even more heartbreaking a woman who she considers to be like a mother to her has gone to hospice and is at life's journeys end. While visiting Rosie at the hospice facility she meets Australia's top rock star Hayden Crewe who is there because he learned his estranged mother is there and does not have long to live. She walked out on his father and him 20 years ago and never contacted him since. He is hoping for answers and closure. Briar and Hayden are attracted to each other and are supportive of one another through a difficult time but can these feelings grow and survive with each living on different continents?

Between Breaths is an emotional and steamy roller coaster of romance, grief and betrayal from within the ranks. Briar and Hayden both understand pain but it is their current situation that draws them together. Hayden needs answers and Briar needs closure. As they stand together in the face of their ultimate loss, they find hope and a future. However, not everyone is happy about their newfound love and there are threats to destroy them. I was deeply moved by this novel and recognised once again that however popular and gifted an artist may be, their lot is not an easy one. This book is well written and it is part of a series. A number of characters from previous books in this set appear in this plot too, but it is nevertheless and standalone with a positive and joyful ending. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Briar and Hayden’s story in Alexa Padgett’s Between Breaths: A Bad Boy Rockstar Romance (Seattle Sound Series Book 2) is a romance that is passionate, emotional, painful, fulfilling and powerful all at the same time. It’s the sort of read that’s hard to put down once started. Read the publisher’s blurb for a good description. All I can do is note that if You find that blurb appealing then I’m confident you’ll love the book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.

Wow this was a different angle on rockstar pain and angst. Australian rockstar Hayden meets Briar at a Seattle hospice as he goes from his world tour to be at the bedside of the mother who abandoned him when he was a child. Briar is there to spend time with her ex boyfriend's aunt Rosie who she is close to but who is dying.

Briar has just broken up with her controlling asshole of a boyfriend - really who would do what he did! She is not really looking for another relationship but when she meets Hayden she wants try and console and help him deal with the death of his mother. What starts as friendship soon becomes more but it has a time limit as Hayden has to get back to his band. Hayden is trying to keep his visit to Seattle under wraps but it gets out there to the media and Briar gets a taste of what life would be like with him always in the spotlight, but she never gets to find out as Hayden leaves her suddenly and with no explanation.

There is so much to this story, dealing with the death of loved ones, mental illness, what life is like in the spotlight and being abandoned both as a child and an adult. Luckily both Briar and Hayden have support around them but is it enough to help or do they need to work through their pain together?

So far this has been a riveting series from Alexa and I can't wait to start the next book. These are stories of people who just happen to be rockstars who are struggling with their issues but still giving the audience a good show.

Briar and Hayden come from different worlds but find each other as they are navigating anger and grief in a hospice. Both have so much baggage, and they live in different universes but their connection is undeniable. This is angsty and almost hard to read, but in a good way. Briar is so beautiful, and empathetic and kind and she feels all of Hayden's trauma. I just willed them to have a HEA. There's some wonderful character growth, especially for Hayden, great side characters, and an immersive view of the music industry. I'd love to think the groupie scene was overstated, but I suspect not. Onto the next one in the series! Recommended :)

I voluntarily review an ARC.
This is the second book of the Seattle Sound series. The books are standalones. I still have to read the first book, but don't think I got too many spoilers.
This is an excellent story with strong but vulnerable characters, very good friends and morons, annoying journalist and fans, with drama and loss, but also with a deep running love that can break down emotional walls. The protagonists took me on a journey feeling all their ups and downs, their lust and desperation. I can't wait to read the other books of this series.
Highly recommended!

CAn two people fall in love while mourning important people in their lives about to die? Briar has feel rejected so many time se in her life that she doesn’t trust easily. Hayden, an Australian rock star, do not get attached to people after her mother never contacted him after he left the USA with his father to go back to Australia when he was ten years old. But Briar and Hayden connect deeply through pain, grief and loss. But a lot of things are pushing them apart. Can they fight their own demons and have a future together? Tough live story.

In this one with a not ordinary kinda story line you will follow Hayden and Briar as they encounter each other in a time when needed. Also they do not do the normal but have to plunge you on a roller coaster type of ride tuning you upside down at times. You will need to catch your breath a time or two. They have really had to deal with a bit but that is life. You will get so wrapped up in this one you will loose track of time so watch what you are doing lol.

Another brilliant read by this author. Even though this story has a few characters carry through from Sweet Solace it is a complete standalone. This book had me hooked with the emotion, as well as a love story it is a story of life and what it throws at you. Briar and Hayden meet through chance but everything thrown at them. A page turning read.

really enjoying this series and will def be reading more of it. I like the content, the style of writing and the characters though this one was more than a bit over the top when it came to the aussie slang (too, too much .. I have never met anyone who actually speaks like that). it really dragged me away from the story as I kept thinking .. do people really think we talk like that???

I loved Between Breaths. I actually like both Briar and Hayden's characters and loved the musical elements in the book. I enjoyed reading how their past shaped who they are today and how it affected their relationship. There is a soulmate feeling to their relationship that I enjoyed. I did feel like the angst of their relationship was not too angsty, but otherwise, a great read.

What a story! In an unlikely setting, with two people who happen to stumble upon each other, and so much emotion. It's a tender look at some tough subjects, while Hayden & Briar try to make sense of them too. No spoilers here. I like how the author handled each of those tough subjects. A wonderful book with a storyline that will stick with me awhile.

Terrible meet cute. At hospice. Her older best friend. His estranged mother.
Then things fall apart. He fears the violence his mother showed him is embedded in him. She fears being close and being left.
The book felt long. But I’m glad I powered through and finished it.
