An unexpected encounter with Angela, the witch responsible for Guideau’s curse, leaves Guideau in a primal, beast-like state. The regression calls to Ashaf’s mind the time the pair had first met—it was in a village out in the countryside, a place supposedly untouched by magic, but where rumors of a witch began to poison the community…
Outline of the story: In a modern Europe-looks-alike fantasy world, there are magic-users and the unearthly powerful beings known as the 'witches'. The witches are seemingly all evil and love to curse people and cause mayhem, so the witches are widely feared and hated by the general public and are hunted by the Church and an unknown organization of magic users.
There are an unlikely pair sent by the Organization to hunt down the witches: Guideau, a teenage girl (?) with eyes of a beast, a matchless ill temper and seemingly unstoppable power, and Ashaf, a level-headed magician who carries a mysterious coffin around everywhere he goes?
In this volume, the witch (Angela) who had cursed Guideau into losing his power and finally shows up! So exciting! I wonder what is her endgame? The witch says 'fate' would link Guideau and her together, I wonder how will it work?
Plus, finally there is some answer to Guideau and Ashaf the magician and we can see how they met!!!!! ARGH love the story of how they have to work together to save a witch from angry villagers! YEAH!!!!
And...vampires are coming next? Can this series get even better!? I can't wait for the next volume!
Injured and grumpy, Guideau falls face first into a trap set by the witch who cursed them. The encounter knocks Guideau back down to their lowest place, causing Ashaf to take a trip down memory lane. He remembers their first meeting and how their close, yet fickle, partnership began.
I’ve been loving this series, so I was extremely excited to start this installment. This time around, we got some backstory on Guideau. They’re such an interesting character that I was thrilled when Ashaf started taking a trip down memory lane. We don’t have all the answers yet, but it was interesting and I’m excited to see where this goes and to see the rest of their story unfold.
It was also neat to see how Guideau and Ashaf became partners. I assumed the Order of Magical Resonance had organized their partnership, so it was cool to see what actually happened and how it differed from what I assumed occurred. It’ll be neat to eventually see what Ashaf’s story is as well.
Plus, after hearing about the witch who cursed Guideau through multiple volumes, it was exciting to finally see her. She made quite the entrance that has left a lasting impression on me. I’m looking forward to seeing how this unfolds, especially with the way this volume ended. I can’t wait until I’m able to read the sixth volume because that ending is taking us to a whole new world… literally. I’m excited to see this place in addition to learning what answers they find there.
Finally, we finally learn how they first met and the circumstances that brought them together. And vampires are next!!!!! Stfu, I cannot wait for vampires.
Snapshot review: LOVE that we finally got some back story on how they met, wow. and also how ashaf wants to keep the bond that was formed between them. interesting! ahhhhahahaha, i’m really loving this manga. it’s humorous moments are really hitting well. and different worlds?! with vampires?? is the all black request bc ashaf is a slave to the ~aesthetic~ ?? cause, respect. lololol.
This was a solid volume, packed to the brim with action. And finally, FINALLY we get some answers as to who this witch is that Guideau is hunting and why she's such a threat. We also get backstory on how Guideau and Ashaf met, which was also neat. The artwork was pretty strong, though I felt it lacked a bit in certain scenes, and the worldbuilding continues to grow. I have no idea how Ashaf is going to teach Guideau "love" or even what kind of "love" he intends to educate her on, but I'm curious to find out.
We get a ton of much needed backstory here both in text and in the art. There's such a skillful subtly to many of the panels, like the tightening of fingers creasing the fabric to convey tension. I love it. But it clashes with the panels where half of Ashaf's face is missing for no apparent reason. The chapters jump around a bit, but the stories are fascinating. And that ending! Ooh! I'm looking forward to 6!
This is really just a long (but necessary) backstory about how our two protagonists met. You do get some insight as to where "the witch" first showed up and her relationship with Guideau. And the art style is as good as always. But I'm really looking forward to Vol 6 as they seem to be journeying into some weird "other" world, closing in on secrets surrounding the curse and about the fictional world in general.
It’s been ages since I read this series so I’m catching up, at least with the volumes I own…
It’s kinda sad that this is what? Vol 5 and were only now getting some intro into basic things like how magic works or the layout of the world….
The structure here was a little jagged, jumping from one story to flashbacks to another, but the whump was kinda nice, and it was interesting to see how he and Guideau met, even if it’s still not clear what exactly Guideau is…
I love this Italian is a flashback. I think it was an essential part of telling the story. And it makes so much more interesting than starting from the very beginning. I love the dynamic between the two main characters. I am hoping that the new character takes a bigger part in the story in the upcoming novel, since there is only three of them. But I am also OK with it just going back to the two of the original characters. I am enjoying the story and I feel like I read it pretty fast.
I liked who this one showed the darker nature of witches. In general this series does push in world beliefs (are all witches bad? Good? Can you say either way, or is it on a case by case basis?) I also obviously liked the artwork. More and more action comes up, but the pages are usually pretty clear to read (not hard to figure out what's going on). The characters are growing, and romance is (?) in the air!?
Finally some prologues! It’s great to get some origins for some of the characters and relationships but this is definitely the kind of series with questions on questions that I’m sure will be answered over time. This was an excellent volume.
This volume gives the reader some long time needed background information on our main protagonists. After the last chapter casually drops the existence of an elevator linking different universes and one of them being a vampire one?? I'm looking forward how the story moves forward.

This one was a lot better. Really got my interest and actually had me reacting to the emotions in the volume. I got a little more back story in the main couple and look forward to learning a bit more.
It's an interesting world and the characters are intriguing, but I find that I have trouble following what's going on during the long fight scenes as the art has kind of an appropriately rough-dramatic style that just makes a lot of it look like a series of explosions to me.
I quite enjoyed the backstory we get of Ashaf' and Guideau's first meeting. F*ck Angela. And ngl- I am shipping Guideau and Ashaf. I knoooow it may not work out, but they are kinda cute, no?~
