5☆ Fun, Sexy, feel good, laugh out loud read!

Meet me at the lighthouse is by far one of my favourite reads.
It has everything, A Lighthouse, Romance, Humour, Passion, Alcohol, Elvis, Plenty of Music, Jealous Ex's, Crazy Parents, Family Dramas,Community Spirit...

When Bobbie and Ross cross paths outside Cragport’s Victorian Lighthouse... who knew their lives would literally change forever!

Bobbie and Ross grew up together, shared their first kiss together at the school disco to Robbie Williams - Angels.
But then they grew up and parted.
10 years later and they stumble across each other when Ross is putting up a for sale sign on the Lighthouse...' £1 ' is literally what he's uncle was asking for.

Bobbie decides that she wants the Lighthouse and tells Ross that she wants to buy it.

That evening she meets her twin sister Jess in the local pub to celebrate their birthday.
But who should happen to be in the pub....Ross!!  He is performing on stage.

It's from this point the night ends up with ALOT of alcohol being consumed
Oh and..... a partnership is formed
Ross and Bobbie decide to pay 50p each for the lighthouse and their plan is to set up a music charity for kids inside the lighthouse.

The next morning after waking up together and one major hangover the two set out to put the plans in motion. First stop contracts to sign over the ownership.

Bobbie and Ross find trouble at every hurdle.
No one said transforming the lighthouse would be easy. But they are both so determined to make it happen, and with the community on board what could possibly go wrong!!

I absolutely adore Bobbie and Ross.
I loved watching their friendship blossom and their sizzling passion between them was electric! In and out of the bedroom!!
However their relationship is far from plain sailing.

Bobbie was previously in a relationship, well that was until she caught her scum bag Ex Alex cheating on her.
Bobbie doesn't find it easy to trust, she appears to be strong but has a vulnerable side.... oh and definitely a green eyed monster side... which to be honest If I was in her shoes I would of acted exactly the same way!

Ross is still married to Claire.... well technically they are separated!
So when Claire shows up to throw a spanner in the works... will Ross behave? And what is he hiding?

I could go on for ages writing about the story it's so good, but it will give everything away.......
I urge you to pick it up and discover for yourselves whether the lighthouse is a success.... or if Bobbie and Ross make it.... or will everything just sink around them!

All of the characters are fun, entertaining, relatable, even when you want to hate Claire for instance... she redeems herself and opens up a whole other side to her, which you can't help warming too.
I loved the charm of Cragport, how everyone knew each other and everyone was willing to help.

The story line is captivating and had me hooked from the very first page.

I was rooting for Bobbie and Ross from the outset... I mean how cool is it to transform a lighthouse into a music venue for kids!!
I adore lighthouses there is something very endearing about them, so when I see this book and the cover I knew I just had to read it. (My cousin even got married in a lighthouse, so magical)

I am really hoping there will be a book 2 as I think there is so much more to come from The Lighthouse!

Meet me at the Lighthouse really is a fun, light hearted read, which melted my heart and held me captive right till the very end!

I urge you to pick up this book and delve into The Lighthouse and become swept away with it's endearing charm and loveable characters.

Perfect read for lovers of Chick Lit, Rom Com, Romance, Cosy feel good reads, Music references.

I received this book from the Publisher for free via Netgalley, in which I voluntarily reviewed.

Charming, witty, sweet and romantic!

This is a heartwarming story about small-town living, first loves, family, friendship, community, dreams, goals, music and of course the passion and tiresome commitment involved in refurbishing a derelict lighthouse.

The writing is amusing and fluid. The plot is a highly entertaining journey filled with laughs, drama, chemistry, and second-chance love. And the characterization is spot on with a whole gang of fun, quirky, spirited, and endearing characters.

This is the second novel I've read by Baker and once again she's proven she can write clever, lighthearted, laugh-out-loud funny stories with characters you won't forget.

Thank you to Mary Jayne Baker and HarperImpulse for providing me with a copy in an exchange for an honest review.

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Meet Me at the Lighthouse brought me back to when I went to Maine for a day two years ago. We were celebrating my Dad's 60th birthday and we traveled to Boston for a week. Rented a huge house for the whole family, plus dog babies, and did so many things. I especially enjoyed my lobster roll in Maine and seeing a lighthouse from afar.

We are already thinking of going to Maine next year to celebrate my Mom's 60th.. which would have been this year.. but due to Covid we ended up playing the game 'Pandemic' and basically killed the entire world over and over again.

Anyhoo, back to the book. In this, you will meet Bobbie and Ross. Now these two are sort of getting a second chance at love being the flames are reigniting between these two. Their chemistry was so freaking good and I honestly loved how they wanted to help one another when it came to anything.

Of course there was drama.. coming from Ross because he was still technically married (but separated from his wife). Ugh. It still didn't stop me from having heart eyes whenever these two were in the same room. They were just really freaking cute and I couldn't help it.

In the end, I'm so glad that I got the chance to dive into this book. Even though it took me forever to actual do so. It's very cute and a quick read.

The cover is very pretty, vibrant and memorable. It compliments the story perfectly. The book was incredibly refreshing. There are 1000’s of romance novels on sale and often they can become mundane, repetitive and bland. Not in the case of Meet Me At The Lighthouse, Baker manages to keep her story refreshing and on point. With intricate side stories threaded through the main event. There was never a dull moment or a need to skim.

Bobbie is a unique and loveable character, I have to be honest and reveal that every time they said Miss Hannigan, I was immediately blasted back to the 1980’s movie Annie and I giggled each time. Bobbie is a modern women, strong, independent and someone I would like to know.

Baker has done a very good job of keeping the book modern without any cliche long drawn out scenes of lovey dovey nonsense. The book is witty, engaging and sentimental.

I recommend the book to lovers of love and to those who like to remember those gone before us and how important it is for us to keep shining a light for them.

“If you want me.”

This was absolutely ridiculous, adorably sweet, full of the most cliched tropes and caricatured characters.
And it was extremely entertaining and enjoyable.

Well its not often that you start a book with an impulse purchase of a lighthouse! And its the small act of marginal madness that not only sets off a chain of events for Bobbie and old friend Ross, but also sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the book.

For this is lovely light hearted story, with a lighthouse and some interlinked love stories at the heart of it. The lighthouse itself is the focal point, and Bobbie and Ross do have a master plan for it, which involves fundraising initially and then music.

There is just a fun and pleasant story that made me smile throughout it. It's the first book I have read by the author, and I loved her writing style, and general sense of humour. It is just such a quirky story and I loved everything to do with the Lighthouse itself.

The book is easy to follow and there are a few small surprises along the way. What really helped make the book so great were some of the characters. There is Bobbie's mother who gives potential new boyfriends a Spanish Inquisition style grilling, there is an old thespian who is just OTT, there is a bar owner who does a great line in bad chat up lines, and bizarre dress sense, there is an ex wife that seemingly has her own agenda, and an ex boyfriend who I really didn't like at all, for reasons that will become apparent as you read the book.

Meet Me at the Lighthouse is a lovely story to read on a relaxed and sunny weekend, or at any other time really, and was a great introduction for me to a new author who I definitely will be interested in reading more from.

Thank you to Harper Impulse and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Usually most romance novels has the story building up to the two main characters falling hopelessly in love with each and not getting together right until the end. This one has them doing it right at the beginning. I have to say this made for a really refreshing change. As soon as Bobbi and Ross meet again after years of not seeing each other, it’s love at first sight. Not only does Bobbi walk away from that first meeting with a new chap in her life, but also half ownership of a lighthouse.

I couldn’t help having visions of the show Grand Designs in my head. The Lighthouse needs a lot of work doing on it and I had so many things running through my head about how it was looking the more work they did on it. What a fabulous opportunity and I think I would have rushed into buying it as quickly as Bobbi did if I was her.

I really liked Bobbi. She’s very down to earth and even though she is very much loved up with Ross, the fact that he has a past does slightly concern her. I mean she wouldn’t be human if she didn’t. Obviously a new relationship as well as a new partnership is never going to run smoothly, certainly not in the real world never mind in fiction.

Meet Me At The Lighthouse is a wonderfully light hearted read. Being from Yorkshire myself, I loved the whole setting though it has left me wanting to now go off and buy a lighthouse! Couldn’t think of a better book to read this summer, or anytime of the year for that matter. Will have you laughing, smiling and feeling all warm and lovely inside.

My thanks to HarperImpulse for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

After a difficult breakup Bobbie is now living with her twin sister Jess. She's having a peaceful and quiet life until she meets Ross. Bobbie used to like Ross a lot, but they lost contact. Now Ross is offering her his uncle's lighthouse for a symbolic amount. It's her birthday and Bobbie is ready for a challenge, so she decides to buy it. She has an even better idea though, they should purchase it together instead and open a music venue, which is something Ross has been dreaming of for years. Will they be able to pull it off?

Ross gave Bobbie her first kiss and the butterflies in her stomach that were there back then are still present. However, Ross isn't as unattached as Bobbie would have liked him to be. He's a man with a lot of baggage and Bobbie has to decide if she can handle taking this. Will getting involved with him jeopardize their lighthouse project or can they remain professional? What will happen when secrets of the past are coming to the surface, will Bobbie and Ross be strong enough to survive whatever comes their way?

Meet Me at the Lighthouse is a wonderful story. Bobbie is a fantastic person. She's smart, knows how to get things done and she's sweet. She used to like Ross a lot and sparks keep flying between them. Ross is kindhearted and easy going and he's a talented musician. They get along fabulously, but they also have a project to take care of and being involved personally and professionally can be a challenge. It was fascinating to see what would happen between them. I loved their playful banter, great chemistry and close friendship, but things aren't as uncomplicated as they seem, which gives the story a nice layer of depth. There are things Ross can't share and finding out more about his secrets kept me glued to the pages.

Mary Jayne Baker has a fabulous easy flowing writing style that mesmerized me from the very beginning, I just had to keep reading. I loved the way she describes the lighthouse and everything that has to be done to turn it into a music venue. It was fun to read about the ups and downs of that process and the amazing community spirit put a big smile on my face. I love heartwarming stories and Meet Me at the Lighthouse has the exact right feelgood factor. I really liked this book and highly recommend it.

OH MY! Meet me at the Lighthouse by Mary Jayne Baker is a serious contender for my favourite book of 2017. Without a doubt, Harper Impulse are not only fabulous at designing their covers but have the unique talent to search out books with a difference.

I loved this book from the outset, Bobbie Hannigan is as mad as me and immediately I warmed to the character. It was her birthday and not only did she impulsively buy a lighthouse for one pound (which would be something I would do), but she met the love of her life once more, her childhood sweetheart, Ross Mason, the gorgeous musician, the first boy she ever kissed. After a drunken reunion Ross puts up half the money, 50p and becomes a joint owner of the once glorious Cragport Victorian Lighthouse, their plan to turn it into a music venue, but it’s safe to say everything wasn’t always plain sailing.

For me, this book was impossible to put down, I read it in a couple of days with a silly grin etched on my face. It was an uplifting story, moved at great pace, all the characters were charming and I simply adored the setting.

The story had the right amount of giggles, romance and learning curves of life. This book by Mary Jayne Baker is definitely one for your summer holiday!

A story that is just perfection and full of fun!

"The day I turned 28, I bought a lighthouse and met the love of my life."

When a book starts like that, you can't help but want to keep reading. Meet Me at the Lighthouse by Mary Jayne Baker reeled me in with the first sentence. And just like the first sentence suggests, this book was surprising and romantic.

It follows Bobbie Hannigan, who on her 28th birthday- wait for it- buys a lighthouse. Boom. Mic drop. But contrary to what the first sentence says, she didn't exactly meet the love of her life for the first time on her 28th birthday, but rather met him again after ten years apart. Ross Mason, the boy in the band, her first kiss, was back in town and helping his uncle sell his lighthouse for a quid. Bobbie buys the lighthouse and from there starts a beautiful adventure, filled with laughter, love and passion.

I'd like to think that given the opportunity, I might do the same thing had I been in Bobbie's shoes. But I can't say that for sure. Her passion and her willingness to take a chance on a dream is what drives this book. That along with Ross's support and their mutual love and respect for each other and the lighthouse is what makes this book unique. It's inspirational in a way that shows you that dreams can be achieved, as long as you're willing to take a chance on them. What starts out with a tequila slammer and a drunken deal ends with a really uplifting happily ever after.

The book flows really well. There are some time jumps, some of them a couple of weeks, but for the most part the transitions in this book were pretty seamless. It did take me a while to get used to the language and the phrasing but once I did, I was able to really appreciate this book. The author has a really endearing voice that highlights the quirkiness of her characters. Both Ross and Bonnie are really fun characters and while there were times where they were extremely corny, I think it worked for them!

This was a really enjoyable read! It had a really unique plot, which is what made it stand out for me. Along with that the characters were well rounded, and their relationships with each other is fleshed out really well. There are mentions of darker times, but for the most part, this book is fun and hilarious! It's a second-chance romance in a small town that's adorable and heartwarming. I would recommend it if you're looking for a light and cheesy, rom-com with a really sweet HEA!

Where to begin with this book?! Other than I am now considering buying my own Lighthouse in the hope that it comes with a Ross of its' own!! All the love for this book that has kept me so entertained while reading it, and I even kept the neighbours entertained with my giggling as I sat in the sunshine chortling along with the exploits and thoughts of Bobbie, her twin sister Jess and the lovely Ross!

Everything seems to happen at once for Bobbi and none of it planned too - who else ends up buying a Lighthouse on their 28th birthday for £1 and meeting up with an old flame from school! But this sets her on a path slightly different from her life as a teacher and it just feels right! The chance to go into business with Ross to restore the once glorious Cragport Victorian Lighthouse, proves too good a chance to turn down - although in the cold light of day their doubts do start to sink in!! When are drunken decisions ever the right ones?!

But they both have an inner drive brought on my previous experiences and that helps them focus, along with the help of the community and it is a blast to see everyone come together to try and see their dreams through, although the road isn't always a smooth one!

The characters in this book were all so charming and they were also hilarious! The collective noun for a group of seagulls is now forever ingrained in my brain.....and it will be in yours too when you read it!!

It isn't all fun and games as there are many times they are left to deal with jealousy and trust issues due to things that have happened in their pasts and this adds an intriguing element to the story.

I adored the setting, the various plot lines played along so nicely and at a great pace, and it was just a total delight of a read and I'm just hoping that there might be more to come from the Lighthouse in future!!

Thank you to Harper Impulse for an ARC of this book in return for a fair and honest review.

Meet Me at the Lighthouse was an absolute joy to read. It is one of those heartwarming, cosy and utterly romantic books that make you feel good about the world. I read this book in a day, as I just couldn't put it down.

From the moment that I read the opening lines, I just knew that I would fall in love with this book. It really is something special. I loved the idea of meeting the boy that you first kissed at school, now a man, and then finding out what the future would bring. Now in their late twenties, both Bobbie and Ross have previous relationships behind them, and it is only their pasts that can really influence their future happiness.

Bobbie and Ross make a refreshing romantic couple. She is feisty, strong willed and is no pushover. He is sensitive, caring (and of coarse ruggedly handsome), but together they both have their strengths that they use to support each other. Bobbie is no shrinking violet, and I loved her for this. From the moment I met Ross on the page I fell for him, just as Bobbie did, who wouldn't? What I really loved about this book was the sense of the Yorkshire community. That community spirit that rallies around in times of need. The community certainly has its share of memorable characters. Most of them made laugh out loud!

This book is a beautiful romantic story with lots of heart, and everything that you would expect from a romantic read. It also has a lot of laughs throughout, mainly from the dialogue between Bobbie and Ross, who are naturally funny together.

Meet Me at the Lighthouse is one of those feel good books that make you smile, and help you forget about the worries in the world, while you sit and read it. If you want a book to take on holiday, or simply to enjoy while sitting in your garden, then I can wholeheartedly recommend this book. It really is a delicious treat of a read.

This is my last book review of 2017 and what a gorgeous book to finish the year with. I loved the down to earth feel of this story with the characters feeling so realistic, it was such a joy to see Bobbie and Ross bring the lighthouse back to life. The characters act on impulse along with the help of alcohol and come up with a brilliant plan to open a music venue in a lighthouse. I was rooting for them all the way even with the obstacles that end up in their way. The question is will there be a happy ending?

There's something so charming about the premise of the lighthouse that easily pulled me into the story. Along with some fun minor characters that gave the story an extra lovely touch, a special mention has to go to Bobbie's twin their conversations were always lots of fun. With some fab one liners that I will have to borrow. There were some brilliant laugh out loud moments, plenty of giggles and I was pretty much smiling all the way through. The story has some deeper issues for example a lack of trust that gave the story a more balanced feel. If you are in need of a pick me up I can definitely recommend this story. I ended up reading Meet Me at the Lighthouse over two nights, I really wished I could have finished it in one evening as I didn't want to put it down!

Fun, flirty and wonderful!

Five stars from me!

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Mary's debut book so I was excited to read another book from her. Meet Me at the Lighthouse is a totally different book to The Honey Trap but Mary's talent for storytelling is ever present. I laughed so much while reading, cried actual tears and full body sighed with the romance of it all. I just loved it.

First time love is my favourite love but if delivered well I do like a second chance romance between characters with a shared history. Bobbie and Ross have history for sure. They've known each other since school. Life and circumstances drifted them apart and it's also brought them back together.

Once again hidden behind the sweet cover are some scorching hot sex scenes, more angst then I can usually handle but in this instance only aided me to turn the pages quicker and some super surprising plot twists and curveballs.

Mary's debut book shocked and surprised me in the best possible way and this one was no different. I think of Mary's books as being driven to somewhere you love in a car but blindfolded. You don't know anything about the journey but you can rest assured the destination will be wonderful!

Firstly, I love the fact that the author is a Yorkshire lass writing about a coastal town in Yorkshire. Secondly, it's easy to read and the story doesn't seem to 'slow' down in the middle so it's paced quite decently. I didn't hate it but it didn't have the emotional depth that I need to get invested in a contemporary romance, it felt a little bit 'insta love' and that took me out of it.
I loved the idea of the lighthouse and getting it back up to standard, the music venue storyline was so much more appealing to me than the romance which is the main thread of the story.
I didn't dislike any of the characters I just didn't love any of them either.
There are discussions of an attempted sexual assault in this book so if that is a trigger for you then please go into this with care, although it is not explicit in nature I feel like potential readers should have a bit of forewarning.
Fast, funny but forgettable sadly.

*Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was perfectly cute until it wasn’t. I was so excited for this one after reading the blurb but unfortunately that excitement wasn’t matched in the pages. Buying a lighthouse, a hot former classmate, drunken pacts. This had all the potential but didn’t come together for me. Yes there was a fun project and yes there was some chemistry but I wasn’t invested in the characters and I think our female lead is a bit immature. Family history aside, I struggled to get over how much she freaked out about kissing a man who is going through a divorce which caused the chemistry they had in the beginning to fizzle out by mid-book and I just didn’t find myself invested through the rest.

I love the cover on this book and it looked like a light fun read..which it was. I only gave it four stars as although I enjoyed it, it was total fantasy, so unreal and clearly men like Ross Mason do not exist! I like my heroes and heroines to be believable. To a degree Bobbie was but sometimes I didn't like her attitude and the way she spoke (maybe am old fashioned) but there were some funny moments and laugh out louds. Always fancied living in a lighthouse myself so that's what I would have done with it, not have it as a bands venue, but it was a light airy tale all the same.

Bobbie and Ross have a history, and after years without contact their reunion suggests the spark between them never fully died. When the pair embark on an ambitious project to bring their coastal town's dilapidated lighthouse back to its former glory, they find themselves facing numerous challenges - not least keeping their relationship strictly professional.

This witty novel has oodles of charm and a diverse supporting cast which promises to put both Mary Jayne Baker and Meet Me At the Lighthouse firmly on the commercial fiction map.

Sweet, sexy and snort-inducing, this novel has the lot!

I loved Meet me at the lighthouse!!

It’s a lovely feel good read with the perfect characters and a lighthouse! It’s not everyday I read a book about a lighthouse!

I laughed throughout the book, with the antics Bobbi got up to really did remind me of Bridget Jones!

The book has two main characters – Bobbi and Ross, followed by a community of characters, all of whom are relevant to the story. You will come across the characters you can’t help but love and hate! What I loved about all the characters was how they all came together.

I whizzed right through this book, it was like I was watching a movie rather than reading, it played out vividly in my mind and I really felt like I was there, amongst all the characters and scenery.

Meet me at the lighthouse was my first book of Mary’s and certainly won’t be the last.

I loved her way with words, the characters and their personalities, the scenery etc…

This is a book I can really recommend to all fans of Bridget Jones, Carole Matthews and Trisha Ashley.

Originality defines this author's books, the lighthouse in the title is an important character, as well as providing the perfect setting for this hilarious, sexy, romantic romp. Whilst second time romance is not as instantly gripping as love at first sight, the chemistry between the two main characters is undeniable and makes for a page turning read.
Like her first story, unscrupulous characters feature here to very good effect and give this story it's realistic edge. The attention to detail is evident and makes the story a worthwhile read.
If you're tired of reading tea shop romances you'll find this story about a rundown east Yorkshire coastal resort, delightfully refreshing. Great story telling with interesting characters and lashing of romance, the perfect seaside treat.
I received a copy of this story from the author in return for an honest review.

After reading Baker’s previous side-splitting funny book ‘The Never Have I Ever Club’, I was super excited when I got a chance to read this. It lived up to my expectations.

Adorable and Charming. Eccentric and whimsy. Steamy and sizzling. Persistent and dogged. Witty and funny. Possessive and jealous.

Roberta (goes by Bobbie) lives in a cottage with her dog Monty and twin sister Jess in a seaside town in Yorkshire. One day, she buys the dilapidated lighthouse and ropes in an old flame to be a partner in her crazy scheme of renovating the lighthouse and making it a performing space for the kids in town.

At first, I thought Bobbie was wacky for impulsively buying this, prepared to pour her savings into this, and work hard to secure funds. Started cheering for them when underlying selfless reasons were revealed for undertaking this mammoth project.

Sparks fly between them while working together but she tries to keep to strictly business until Ross is clear from his baggage. There were many brilliant and quirky characters in this – Bobbie’s mom, who vets potential boyfriends of her daughters. Uncle Charlie – cantankerous old man. The scenes involving Jess were hilarious. The bond between these sisters is touching, and props up each other. The small-town people show the spirit by pitching in to help these get the lighthouse up from the ground.

Bobbie’s dog Monty is the character itself. His playful antics made me laugh whenever he appeared. I was giggling throughout the funeral event; I know this is the last place that warrants chuckling.

Appreciate Baker for creating realistic characters, who are far from perfect, riddled with insecurities and jealousies, struggles and dealing with trust issues, fighting their insecurities.

Loved the sizzling chemistry between Ross and Bobbie. They both are adorable and charming.

My quibbles are in one moment, I was appreciating Bobbie for sticking to her principles of not getting too involved with a man who hasn’t finished separating from his wife. The next minute, they were snogging their faces off. Calling grown up man a ‘Lamb’ and ‘Sweety’ are cringeworthy, probably these endearments were part of Yorkshire slang.

All in all, recommend this light-hearted and funny read set in a beautiful location to rom-com lovers.

Meet Me at the Lighthouse is a down-to-earth romantic comedy set in a Yorkshire seaside town. Mary Jayne Baker writes the dialogue in Yorkshire vernacular, which as an American took some getting used to—and I’m still not sure I was able to figure out what everything meant!—but it also made me realize how many characters in other books all sound exactly the same, speaking in a kind of neutral, generically British-American style. This was a refreshing change.

Bobbie and Ross are a couple of 28-year-olds who have already lived through quite a lot of heavy stuff at a comparatively young age: Bobbie’s ex-boyfriend cheated on her, while Ross is negotiating a separation and divorce. But these trials haven’t dampened their spirits, and the pair impulsively buy a ramshackle old lighthouse with plans to fix it up and open a music venue for teenagers. The two are very cute together, and their fast, quippy dialogue was my favorite part of the book.

I could easily imagine Meet Me at the Lighthouse as a limited-run television series on PBS, featuring a charming seaside location, lots of quirky characters, and an off-the-wall project that all the townspeople rally to support. I would definitely watch!
