Caught Witch Handed

Rate this book
Young and attractive Gwendolyn Paris could not have a more charmed life. Literally charmed.

Hers is a serene and cozy world shared with her Grandma Robby, an unabashed practitioner of magic, and her faithful, semi-sentient kitty, Amulet.

Okay, maybe just a little more charmed. Gwen has signed a gig with a local handsome business owner, Kevin Pearson, who owns the hottest spot in the colorful, quaint Town of Green. And if she could secure his attention above all of the others who would love to call him theirs, Gwen might just be totally set.

Just when it seems the fates are aligning in Gwen’s favor and she and her guy -- who is the image of a knight re-incarnate -- are getting deliciously getting closer, drama strikes.

While the question is Who in the sweet Town of Green could do such a thing?

Gwen keeps the faith as she gets closer to the truth (with the help of her Grandma and cat), even if it means it pushes Kevin farther away.

A new-to-me author and a good read with a good storyline. However, without being offensive to the author, this book comes across as someone who has not had a lot of experience in writing. She has good ideas and some parts of the book are well written, descriptive and well fleshed out and scripted and yet some parts are rather basic, almost written as if it were for children, not enough flesh to the bones. The good bit is that there is no unnecessary rambling, and her proof reader has done a good job (no real typos etc) but I think it will be a better read if it was meatier. All in all, it was well worth trying out a new author and I can see that future books will probably be much better

A decent one time short read if you are in for romance and fishy magic aura. Perfect for reading in a 24hr readathon or in a single sitting

This is the first book I have listened to instead of reading the 88 pages, but it was still a very entertaining and fun Hill Cozy Mystery by Catherine Waltan. Gwen, the main character who just happens to be an emerging witch, is highly attracted to Kevin, the owner of the eatery and garage, for whom she is working on a web site design to bring his business into the "modern" world. Of course, it wouldn't be much of a mystery story if there wasn't a mystery to solve now would it, which leads to the discovery of a theft of a large amount of money from Kevin's business account. The who-dun-it part of the story is paralleled with descriptions of the various and rather quirky citizens in the Town of Green who are also suspects. The author describes the characters as well as the landscape and even the surrounding energies in great detail to bring them clearly to mind for the reader to see. Gwen, along with her very smart cat, Amulet, set out to solve the mystery of the missing money with plenty of help from her grandma too, while at the same time trying to understand her emerging powers. Along the way there is romance, disappointment, and more trials and tribulations. This is a voluntary review of this book I received from the author.

Who is the Thief ? . . .

Gwendolyn Paris shares her world with her magic-wielding Grandma Robby and her cat, Amulet. Gwen has signed to create the new website for a local handsome business owner, Kevin Pearson, who owns the hottest spot in the colorful, quaint Town of Green -- Gunderson’s Counter & Filling Station, the most popular gas station/eatery in town. And if she could also lure away his attention from all of the others who would love to call him theirs, that’s all to the good!

But when Kevin finds a shortage in the cash, and it’s suspected to be an inside job, life is disrupted. He told Gwen the books don’t balance, but he re-counts the drawers himself. The money had been there, and he’s sure when or how, but it’s not there now. Can they find the thief? Will this hurt Gwen’s relationship with Kevin? And who would do such a thing to him?

Something seems to be amiss in our beautiful, lovely town in their hills. Young and attractive Gwendolyn Paris could not have a more charmed life. Hers is a serene and cozy world shared with her Grandma Robby, a proficient practitioner of magic, and her faithful, semi-sentient kitty, Amulet. Gwendolyn thinks she has her life well planned. She has gig in the establishment of yes, the most gorgeous man in town, and if she plays her hand right she well soon have a ring on her finger. But then something happens, the till is short, and he counted it right. Gwendolyn knows that her plans on hold until she find who did this, especially as she is the new girl. This is a really cute novel and I enjoyed every page of it.

It was entertaining, but it reads more like a romance novel than a cozy mystery in the way Kevin is described and how Gwen and Kevin's chemistry is described (i.e., a little over the top). Some of the worldbuilding details were missing, making me very confused about the magic in this town and who could use it; however, it's explained a little better in Book 2. The thief's reveal wasn't set up very well, so when it came, it was out of nowhere. I've started Book 2 and I'm hoping the author improved.

This was enjoyable and entertaining read with a cute twist. I liked the chemistry between Kevin and Gwen and the antics of the characters made me smile. I especially liked the mischievous cat Amulet. Overall a good read. I received a free copy via Booksprout and as always my reviews are totally voluntarily and no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Not really my kind of book and a little too short for me to form any attachment to any of the characters. Not badly written though.
