The Perfect Catch

"Kiss me. Just this once... please Walker."

Those whispered words were my undoing... As the most hated player in baseball, I had two options: either clean up my image or pack my bags. Being traded wasn't an option which only meant one thing, I had to become compliant.

That's how I found myself sharing a small bistro table with Kate Chapman, the Chicago Bobbies newest PR Manager. Devastatingly beautiful, vastly intelligent, and incredibly cunning, she knows exactly how to handle my grumpy demeanor. It was supposed to be simple. Book some PR events, show up, smile for the camera, and be done. But one massive mistake on my end sends me into the trenches with Kate, forcing me to open up to her.

Innocent glances turn into cordial encounters.
Secret touches turn into tempting invitations.
And dangerous nights alone turn into consuming desperation.

I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want her. And I know she wants me, but there’s a no fraternizing with the players rule. Neither of us can afford to lose our jobs, but we also can't seem to keep our hands off each other either.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

Meghan Quinn writes my favorite kind of sports romance. Her stories make me laugh out loud, have the perfect amount of angst and emotion, and are sweet and steamy. The Perfect Catch is another win from Quinn and a great addition to the Brentwood/Bobbies/Rebel’s world.

Walker is a bit surly and has the title of ‘most hated player in baseball’ and desperately needs his image cleaned up. That is where Kate comes in. Kate is supposed to make sure Walker goes to PR events and that it’s shown on social media etc. What is not supposed to happen, under any circumstances, is that they fall for one another. It’s strictly forbidden and both of their jobs could be at stake.

Walker is such a fantastic character. He has so much depth and is truly just misunderstood. This had just a bit of that grumpy sunshine troupe I love so much, but the biggest troupe was the forbidden love one. I knew there could be some serious consequences of them being together, but I didn’t care. I wanted them to be able to just be. They were so perfect for one another.

I loved seeing glimpses of some of my favorite characters from past books in this one. I remember seeing Walker in some of the other books, and it it’s always fun to see the connections. There was a little twist in this one, and to be honest I didn’t see it coming (even though the clues were there LOL) and it makes me excited for what’s next in this world!

Walker and Kate’s story was sweet, fun, steamy, and emotional. I enjoyed this one a lot, I only wish there would have been more time with the couple as an actual couple. If you’re looking for a new sports romance to check out I would highly recommend this one!

** One of my Top 20 of 2021 Picks on www.JeevesReads.com! **

Phenomenal - a tense, sexy, intimate treat. Walker might just be my favorite MQ hero EVER. And that's saying something, because she excels at writing alpha heroes with gooey marshmallow centers. I absolutely ADORED this grumpalicious hero; he's a beast of a man on the outside, but so, so SWOONY once you get to know him better. This couple's chemistry leapt off the page, and I loved the focus on intimacy. These two realize that there's no way they can be together, so it's a torturous slow burn that highlights the emotional connection. It also subtly ties three series together in a way that is sure to delight longtime fans - as will seeing Walker finally find his HEA. We've been teased by this broody bachelor for years, and his love story exceeded my expectations.

The story follows Walker, a baseball player who has lost his love of the sport. It's no secret that he's one of the most hated men in baseball, and that does nothing to improve his mood. Walker is quick to lose his temper and has a shell that's tough to crack, but behind his intimidating persona is a kind, caring man. When the team decides that it's time for Walker to clean up his image, he's sent to work with Kate. She doesn't back down when Walker gets surly, and even helps him smile again. But the team has a very strict no fraternization policy, so crossing the line would jeopardize both of their careers. As feelings develop and attraction increases, it becomes impossible for Walker and Kate to keep things strictly professional.

When this hero was announced, I snuck a peek at some of the books in my collection to refresh my memory. And refresh it did! Walker has had memorable cameos in several books, and I've been intrigued every time he's been on the page (this is still definitely a standalone). He lived up to every expectation that I had for him - never has a hero been so completely smitten with a woman. I loved his singular focus on Kate, his sweet side paired with his intense alpha vibes, and his vulnerability. I just loved him, plain and simple. The two together make this an angsty, sexy read. While this still has the humor that I love about MQ's work, it's definitely got a forbidden feel that adds a level of tension. I had moments when I was frustrated by the situation and thought this take-charge hero would've done more, but that's all part of the story. The growth in intimacy was my favorite part, and that was highlighted by some sizzling, emotional scenes. This had me absolutely HOOKED from start to finish, and I loved every minute of it. I was lucky enough to receive an early copy (then purchased it for my collection), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this forbidden romance.

The Perfect Catch is different. Very much different from Miss Quinn's sport romance. It has more vulnerable/ tender moments. And that is just what I like it.

I do like Walker. A brooding, closed off, rude giant who has a very very tender and loving heart. I like how Kate brings the sweetness of him to the light. I like how Walker slowly opens up to her. They both perfect for each other. So much perfect.

This is a wonderful read.

Buckle up y’all because I hated this and you need to suffer with me

Oh man… I actively hated this book while reading it. And usually even if I find faults in the Brentwood Boys series (like the time jump in The Locker Room that provided no post-time jump time for the characters to once again get to know each other, or the fact that I just didn’t care for Jason as a character in The Lineup), I can count on the books to be funny and full of chemistry. But this one was just… not.

Walker was such a compelling character when he cameo’d in The Lineup, working with Jason’s charity. Even in See Me After Class when he went on a date with the heroine, I was stoked for his book. But apparently him in too high of doses = a total buzzkill. Because he IS an asshole. I don’t care if he donates money in his free time or volunteers without telling people, if you act the way he acts to people in general… to the public, to your teammates, you’re an asshole.

I think the most heartbreaking part of this book for me was when he was supposed to do a meet and greet with an injured army veteran who lost his legs. Walker blows up at a guy on his team he doesn’t like, and inadvertently insults the veteran, Lieutenant Gordan, by saying he’s only there because it’s mandatory. That’s fucking CRUEL. I don’t care if that’s not what he intended, or if he really did care for the veteran, it was horrible. And he asked for the guy’s contact info to apologize… but never did it on page. I just went back and double checked, did a full search for “Gordan” and he’s never mentioned again. WHY!??!? WHY would you do that to me?! Now all I can think about is this poor fictional man who was insulted by a character who isn’t real!

Neither character was great, memorable, or relatable. Kate was described as hot and a competent worker - that’s it. Their chemistry was zilch. I don’t understand how or why they fell for each other. Was it all physical? Because I’ve never been so attracted to someone I can’t function and do my job properly. It just felt so stilted and awkward to me. Their first dinner together the POV changes like 6 times over multiple chapters and I just kept scrolling like, “how long is this dinner going to go on?? This is so awkward!”

Basically, I don’t understand how they fell in love with each other. I don’t understand how they fell in *LIKE* with each other.

And I thought the friendship with Kate/Dan was weird, until… you know.

The whole plot with Dawn felt… flat. Walker talked a lot about how much he loved her and couldn’t leave Chicago, but he never went to see her grave. The twist with Penn just felt weird and like, too little too late. Like trying to push a super emotional subplot but we don’t know enough to be invested.

I'm gong to make a controversial statement: Walker is my favorite man out of the towel brigade. There, I said it. There is something so utterly satisfying at seeing the grumpy, growly, closed off hunk of a man fall so hard and fast for the curvy optimist.😍😍 and the sexual tension?! Good Lord, how fucking delicious was that?!? The they can't touch each other but still can't help it was out of this world PERFECTION! All I'm saying is that you should stock up on batteries. Or make sure your partner is around to lick ya good.😂

Also, and it may due to the fact that I'm a pile of hormones, but I cried all the tears. Dare I say I'm almost looking forward to a redemption for Penn? Will wonders ever cease?!

Good Lord this woman can write anything and I would still love it wholeheartedly. Trust me when I say you need to one click this as soon as possible!!

No one does slow burn like Meghan Quinn. I swear I feel like I’m about to burst with anticipation just like her characters. It is slow but wonderful torture.

I feel like Walker and Kate, out of all the couples in this series, was extra torturous. The boundaries they set and kept crossing had me dying slowly in the best way.

I also really enjoyed them as a couple, how they opened up to each other and how Walker found solace in her company.

This a top couple for me in this series. Fun and steamy, The Perfect Catch is a great addition to this standalone romcom series.

Holy hell.... Walker!! What have you done to me. The towel brigade boys keep getting better and better. Sexier and dirtier! Holy heck, he was everything. Sigh. Swoon. Fans self 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He just might have knocked my one and only Maddox Paige don't a step or two.
I almost wish I had listened to the audio of this one. It would be as hot as all heck.

Walker and Kate were pure perfection. Chemistry was a total grand slam.
Walker one of the grumpiest grumps in baseball and Kate the sweet girl tasked with trying to change his image. OMG! Gotta be one of my top book couples!

Meghan Quinn hits a home run with the bases loaded when it comes to the most sizzling hot and angsty slow burn this year.

After losing his temper one time too many, MLB catcher Walker Rockwell needs to restore his image or he’ll most likely be traded. Enter Kate Chapman, the Chicago Bobbies newest PR Manager. She’s smart, she’s resourceful, she puts Walker in his place, but mostly she’s interested in getting to know the surly man in order to help him.

While getting to know each other, they form a deep and intimate bond on top of their burgeoning attraction. Each interaction reveals another layer, texts turn into hot exchanges, innocent touches heightens their desire and each time they’re forced to redraw lines. But one thing is clear, they cannot be more or they’ll lose everything they’ve worked for.

This book is going straight to my best of 2021 list. I fell complete for Walker and Kate. He’s so closed off and ill-tempered on the surface but he’s really a mix between a demanding alpha and a sweet, charming and attentive man with misplaced guilt. And with Kate’s tenaciousness and caring they make the perfect couple.

Their delicious slow burn journey was bursting with great banter, scorching interludes, and emotion from angst to wonderful happiness. I loved every second of it.

The Perfect Catch is a standalone contemporary romance by Meghan Quinn. It is a sexy standalone romance, told from both points of view with a happy ending. Genres: Contemporary | Sports | Baseball romance. Tropes: forbidden romance

I kind of love that antsy feeling I get from forbidden office romances. While not my favorite baseball book of Meghan Quinn’s, I did appreciate the tension and the high stakes in The Perfect Catch. I’m torn between giving the book 3.5 or 4 stars.

Walker is a catcher for the pro baseball team the Bobbies (“Bobbies for life!”) and he is on the verge of being traded for his bad attitude and unsportsmanlike conduct. Kate is the new PR person for the Bobbies — a dream job she desperately wanted. Given the company’s no fraternization policy, both could lose their jobs if caught in a relationship with each other.

The beginning starts out strong. I was curious about what was behind Walker’s aggressive behavior and animosity toward fellow teammate Penn. I wondered how Kate would crack his shell and rehabilitate his image. The story was on its way to being a solid 4 stars. I even enjoyed surprise revelations. However, the dialogue devolves into too much I-wish-we-could-be-together-but-we-can’t redundancy. Literally, the exact same conversation over and over. It drags the pacing down. I also had a difficult time understanding the rationale behind Walker and Penn’s grudge and the severe repercussions.

I was struck by the sensibility of both characters. Walker is a truly decent and honorable man, despite his gruff exterior. Kate is compassionate and driven. They are never flagrant about their attraction, even though their chemistry is through the roof. They understand what’s at risk and make several attempts to resist the pull between them. Since it is Meghan Quinn, when they finally give in to their feelings, holy smokes is it hot!

I’m not sure if The Perfect Catch is officially part of the Brentwood Boys baseball series, but Walker’s teammates, Carson and Knox, are mentioned in passing. We are introduced to Ryot, Walker’s best friend and teammate, who has no filter and tends to say hilarious but wildly inappropriate things. I really hope he gets his own book.

Sports Romance is one of my to go sub genre when I feel bored of just in a slump and Meghan Quinn has lots of those. I do enjoy her books, but they are not books that will be with me forever or make me reread them.
This one was sunshine heroine and a grumpy hero that needed some anger management hours.
Overall was an entertaining read, a good dose of drama and angst because of the “forbidden” romance. The steam level just meh but the written pretty good. I always find with this author the characters being a bit immature and not really acting their age ( talking about the 5seconds bed play- sweet but pretty dumb for mid 30’ people, acted like 18 years old teens with “just the tip” bullshit).
Give it a chance, you may love it!

I can’t get enough of these books from Meghan Quinn. She writes the best sports romance and this one just had everything I could ask for. Despite the fact it took me forever to read, thanks to all my kids deciding to be mini monsters this week, I was obsessed with Walker. And since I love the way that Meghan writes, I already went into the book knowing I was going to enjoy the hell out of it. What I didn’t know was that I was going to go through all the emotions to get to my happily ever after.

Kate came out of the gate as someone I just loved. She was completely take no prisoners with her approach to the players and their attitudes, while completely quaking in her boots on the inside. She didn’t let them push her around or do anything that was going to mess with her plans and I couldn’t get enough of her. The secondary characters were awesome and their interactions were fun and made me laugh.

But Walker, man I was in deep with him before I even realised it. Between the growling voice and the one word sentences I was in serious lust. Add in the 12 pack abs and the lickable physique I’m pretty sure I would let him get away with murder. But then you throw in his sweet as candy center when it came to Kate and I never wanted this book to end.

I normally might have been annoyed with the push and pull between these two but the chemistry was driving me to squirm every time they were in the same room or screen. And I felt their desire to have everything work out in the best interest of each other. Not once did either of them actually worry about anything other than the fall out on the other and that just made me love them even more.

The ending wasn’t everything I was hoping for but I seriously can’t complain. I just didn’t want to have to put it down yet. Honestly I’m not sure why you aren’t already reading it. Just be sure you have some privacy and a cool drink because Walker should come with a safety warning.

Review Snapshot : Meghan Quinn exceeded my expectations with THE PERFECT CATCH, and I fell in love with this story piece by piece. This is a slow burn, heart pumping, and gorgeous read!

︙︙︙︙︙︙︙︙︙

Meghan Quinn has been one of my top 5 favorite authors for many years. I think this goes to show you that an author who can please you for multiple years and through multiple books that she’s an exceptional writer. Her books have some hard fought HEA’s, and her characters actually WORK for the love they deserve and desire (this one even more than I could have imagined). Readers become immediately drawn to these stories because of this (although it never hurts that she gives us characters who make us swoon either).

Ladies, you need a Meghan Quinn book in your life. Books like hers are rare and you’ll always find something you like (she writes many types of romances). Walker is a hero that you won’t want to miss either as he’s exceptionally written. And when he opens up WOW! It’s absolutely incredible! I loved him to pieces. He may even be one of my top favorite Meghan heroes of all time!

Whew! Meghan Quinn really outdid herself with Walker Rockwell. Known as the most hated player in baseball, he had a winning combination of a gruff exterior shielding the kindest heart.

After one too many outbursts from Walker, Kate Chapman, the community events coordinator for the team, is tasked with cleaning up his image. With a grumpy and sunshine dynamic, the banter between them was perfect. Kate was the confident lead needed to snap the emotionally damaged Walker back to reality.

Making their attraction known early, I loved that this romance delivered the tension through the forbidden aspect of their relationship rather than having them deny their feelings. It was incredibly sexy from beginning to end (there was zero holding back on the dirty talk in this one, my friends).

The Dugout still holds the number one spot for me, but I really enjoyed this one! It was such a great addition to the series.

The Perfect Catch is the eighth book in The Brentwood Boys standalone series. Walker is known as the least liked player in baseball. He is a great leader on the field for the Bobbies and is a great catcher but fans don’t like him. The Bobbies' management has assigned Kate Chapman, who is in charge of community events for the team, with helping him revamp his image. Walker is surly and does everything he can to make Kate's job difficult but she is a strong woman who doesn’t put up with his crap. She challenges him and stands her ground to do what’s best for his public image. As they spend more time together, they realize this is more than just a work relationship. They spend the next few weeks toeing the line and testing their boundaries until they can’t hold back anymore.

I really enjoyed this workplace forbidden romance! Walker and Kate cannot date because their company doesn’t allow fraternization between staff and players. When they start to catch feelings and are tempted to give into their lust, it takes all their strength to resist. This is a slow burn romance - they don’t get physically intimate until a little over halfway into the book - but there are some hot scenes of them trying to not have sex that were soooooo exciting. I felt like I was going to combust with some of those scenes!

This book gave me all the feels! When Walker and Kate realize that they have fallen for each other but know they can’t be together, it broke my heart. All those scenes of them seeing each other and longing for each other when they couldn’t be together gave me that tight feeling in my chest from the heartache. There was also a lot of heartbreak around Walker’s and Kate's families.

As always, I enjoyed the ensemble scenes where we get to know the other players on the team. They always crack me up!

I need more of these baseball books from Meghan Quinn! Is Penn going to get his own book???

Steam level: 🔥🔥🔥

Ladies! Walker is the biggest, baddest, grumpiest dude with the DIRTIEST mouth and the sweetest heart😍 I mean y’all…the ice cream scene is 🔥. Holy smokes & the 5 second rule is freaking genius🔥🥵🤯

Kate is the Walker whisperer…and the Penn whisperer. Not only does she weave her magic on Walker but she helps Penn out in the biggest way💓 I loved the way she patiently helped Walker love the game again:)

Not gonna lie but man it was hard to feel bad for Penn for about 98% of the book. Seriously the dude was making it uncomfortable for everyone. His story will be epic!

I was lucky enough to get an alc & the audio is seriously hot. Jason & Vanessa are sooo good together🔥🤤🔥

Guys how sweet is this?!
“I’ve never met anyone like you before, someone who looks through my exterior and attempts to understand my heart.” He shakes his head. “I’m not sure you can comprehend the magnitude of that.”

Heck Yasss moment:

The Perfect Catch is another brilliant edition to Meghan's Brentwood Baseball series. Walker and Kate were the perfect match for one another and I loved this book from start to finish. Kate is the PR manager to the Bobbies and is told to work with Walker to improve his public image. Walker is a player who lives for the game, he doesn't enjoy the fame and notoriety that comes with being a MLB player and is reluctant to do what it takes to change how people perceive him, until the threat of a trade or early retirement becomes a reality.

The chemistry between Kate and Walker is there from the very beginning, both stubborn with Kate giving as good as she gets when it comes to Walker. She won't be fazed by his uncaring attitude and continues to push him, to crack the façade he keeps in place. The tension is only heightened by the Bobbies no fraternisation rule, making their attraction and potential relationship forbidden. Of course when the attraction is mutual you can only resist so long right! My goodness do these two set the pages on fire!

What I loved was that Walker comes across as a tough guy, disinterested, cold, uncaring but really he is anything but to the people that matter. He lost someone that meant the world to him and has never forgiven himself. Those demons have a massive role to play and when he lets Kate in my heart melted into a puddle. Of course it wouldn't be a Meghan Quinn book without a worthy break up along the way and the twist for this one blew my mind!!!! All the emoji's and gifs I have in my repertoire came out to play when I needed to vent to a friend who was reading too. I did not see it coming but I loved reading what followed to reach the HEA I wanted for Walker and Kate.

The Perfect Catch flowed so well, I loved every minute of it. I did listen to the audiobook alongside reading the eBook and I have to applaud Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin (she made me love Kate even more) for doing an amazing job portraying Walker and Kate. Their performances reflected what I read and more. The emotions from Walker especially as somewhat of a tortured hero were vivid and switching that over to the dominant hero he is when he has Kate in his sights well.......HOT!

Whether you are a reader or a listener, this book has something for everyone. Kate as a heroine is so likable and real and I loved how she stood up to Walker and persisted when it came to getting to know the man behind the public front he wears as armour. A fantastic book all round!

3.5 maybe? Rounding up?

Definitely better than the last few towel brigade books, that's for sure, but still had some issues. I don't know what it is, but lately Meghan Quinn has been making some *choices* when she writes the plots for the towel brigade novels, and I just can't understand them.

Look, overall? Loved Walker and Kate, loved the tension (holy motherforking shirtballs), and I think that Walker is one of the best baseball heroes she's written in a while. He was honest, he was communicative, and he was a solid dude, so I don't know why he got this kinda weird story. Better than Linc's and Holt's, for sure, but like, I miss when these books were just GOOD. Carson? Aces. Knox? Fantastic. Jason? HILARIOUS. Then they just kind of went downhill and I'm not sure what it is.

The bones were there. Forbidden workplace romance, tension and steam out the wazoo, and incredible little play on when Walker and Kate got their *moment* and you could feel the longing and the ache that these two were experiencing. It was solid, for sure. But I just don't understand other things that played into this overall story, and I felt kind of cheated by the end because I wanted more of them as a couple, and we didn't get that. It was all sexual tension and desire and very little payoff in the long run (although what we did get, I think my kindle melted).

Also, including a disabled character? ACES.
Including a disabled character only to kill them off? NOT ACES.

I don't know. I will say, like I've mentioned, I much prefer this towel brigade book to the previous few because the story didn't enrage me like some of them did (still pissed about how Holt's turned out), and I did fly through this story. I very much was engrossed and eating it up, but the more I sit and marinate in it, the more I'm realizing certain choices bothered me and it's impacting my overall impression of the book.

I'm not giving up on Meghan, I never will. She knows how to write interesting characters, and she's funny AF most of the time, so she's still an auto-read author for me. I just ... meh I don't know. I wanted more. Maybe that's a me problem and I'm being too critical. Who knows. Regardless, if you love forbidden romances, grumpy cinnamon roll heroes, baseball pants, and steamy scenes that'll make you sweat, give this one a shot. She nailed those aspects of this story and Walker is definitely a fav of mine now. That grumbly little jackass.

Walker is the Chicago Bobbies’ catcher with a chip on his shoulder & more than just a small anger problem. So the Bobbie’s new PR Manager, Katie, is determined to clean up Walker’s public image and is willing to put Walker in his place, which he isn’t used to.

While Walker & Katie get on each other’s nerves from the get-go, they grow on one another the more time they spend together. But once they recognize their mutual attraction and develop real feelings for each other, Walker & Katie know they’re in trouble—the Bobbies has a strict no fraternization policy—and they know their careers will be in jeopardy if they pursue a romantic relationship.

No matter how much they try to deny their feelings, Walker & Katie can’t help but act on their undeniable chemistry. And when it comes to matters of the heart, we don’t have a choice who we love, but we have a choice who we take all the necessary risks for…

The Perfect Catch by Meghan Quinn is the latest installment in the Brentwood Baseball series. Grumpy/sunshine AND a hero & heroine who work for the same sports team? I was in heaven with this setup! The banter between Katie & Walker was fire and I could feel their sexual attraction radiating off my Kindle. I was worried I wouldn’t love this as much as some of the earlier books in the series (especially The Trade because, hello Cory Potter!) but this proved me wrong in the best way. I loved seeing Walker & Katie get their HEA and I may have teared up toward the end. The hype is real with this one! 4.5/5 stars.

I’m in love.... again. I’m not sure how Meghan does it, but I fall for every single one of her main men. I’m not even a little sorry, not when they are such sexy specimen. Gah, Walker was all types of dreamy.

“ “Kate, you just destroyed me.” And I loved every fucking minute of it.”

Kate was a bossbabe. She didn't put up with Walker's antics, his attitude. Her softness and compassion was exactly what he needed to compliment his brash and harsh exterior - but that’s exactly where it ended though - everything else was simply glorious.

Walker—he was so much more than I expected. Soft and sweet, loyal and loving. He was a genuinely nice guy, he just didn't advertise it like everyone else.

This book, it was so delicious.
The sexual tension, the build-up, and want, was INTENSE.

The restraint they showed, when they knew they shouldn't be crossing "the line", was incredible.
The way they grew closer and teased the line, flirted and pushed each other to breaking point was hella hot.
I don't think I've wanted two people to get it on so bad in a book EVER.

When they finally did break, OMG.... perfection.

Then came the inevitable challenges, their roadblocks (so to speak). It wasn’t pretty. I’m pretty certain my happiness died a little right alongside theirs. Needless to say, it was rough.

That’s all I’m going to say about that bit because I want to leave some mystery to this story.

I loved the little bits that were snuck in about Roark and Sutton.
And Penn? Well, I’m looking forward to reading his story.

Jason and Vanessa did a stellar job with narration.

Fuck me.
This book may have started out slow for me, but fuck did it end with a bang.

I was having a hard time getting into this book at first. I think at work because I read two other books by this author right before starting this one and those books were more humor packed than this one.
I was expecting this one to be just as funny and entertaining.

But it was a lot more emotional than I signed up for.

The tension between these two characters is absolutely heartbreaking.
They connect to each other on a whole other level. They want and need each other on a soul deep level.
And they can’t act on it without flipping their entire world upside down.

And then when they finally do give in to the chemistry it gets even sadder.
After that, they know.
They know exactly how good it would be.
They know exactly what they’ll be missing out on.

My face is an absolute wreck from fucking sobbing over this book.

Then the ending.
It was very satisfying.
And then it just kind of cut to black.
So I’m a bit conflicted about the beginning and the ending. But.
The middle I think makes up for it 100%.

This was beautiful and so sad and I loved these two characters.
I’m glad I set it aside for a minute so I could pick it up again and finish it.
I think it was well worth the initial struggle.

3.5 rounded up.

I liked that there were genuine reasons keeping our couple apart. The chemistry was palpable. Loved seeing Walker come out of his shell, the contrast between him at the beginning and him with Kate.

The twist and the end all felt a bit too convenient, but that didn’t bother me too much.

Steam: 3.5/5🔥

CW: alcoholism (side character), death of siblings via cancer and drunk driver, respectively (past)

Katie and Walker....*swoon*....what an angsty, difficult, slow burning, chemistry-laden, hawtt romance! A definite page-turner here.

Walker is the catcher for baseball's Chicago Bobbies. This guy is grouchy, angry, dismissive, negative, bad-tempered...and the least-liked player in baseball. His teammates stay clear of him. Fans have had enough of him. And he likes it that way. So why is he determined to be an angry a**hole?

Kate has just started her dream job with the Bobbies, working in community relations. It's her job to connect the players with the community, and charities. Kate is assigned to work with Walker, to straighten up his image, to make him appear more likable. They get off to a rough start, because Walker (despite his attraction to the positive, upbeat Kate) is determined to be uncooperative. But gradually, by spending more time with Walker, Kate begins to see what makes him tick, and they develop a rapport. Each begins to let their walls down, and then their mutual attraction blossoms into something more physical. But hold up here...the Bobbies organization has a strict no fraternization policy, so nothing can come of the intense chemistry they feel...or can it?

Woo wee....I really fell for the chemistry between sunny Kate and angry Walker! At first I kept thinking 'why do you have to be such an angry ass' and wondered just what happened to make Walker that way. The author gradually lets us in on what happened in his past to make him the way he is. Yes, it was tragic, and yes, he got some counseling (but I guess it didn't work!) and the threat of being traded and a major batting slump put Walker in a terrible headspace. Not to mention his ongoing rivalry and hatred against the Bobbie's star pitcher...Walker was one messed up guy. Enter Kate to the rescue! Thank god Walker's attraction to Kate (though forbidden) got him to start focusing on getting his career back on track. Their forbidden romance was all kinds of hot (ooh, that 5 seconds rule...), and their breakups and makeups were swoonworthy. But I kept thinking 'will one of you either quit your job and find another (Kate) or maybe ask to be traded to the Rebels (Walker) so you can finally be openly together like you NEED to be?

Oh well. There was a big twist that I didn't see coming (which explained a lot about both Kate and Walker's past) and another twist that I did see coming (and I thought, 'thank god'). This book had me turning the pages and swooning over all that sexual energy, and HOPING for a big fat HEA after putting me thru an emotional wringer! Lets say I was not disappointed in the end.

Boy are some people on here going to hate me for what I am about to say about this book. I do want to start off with by saying that 1. This was headed towards being on my TOP 2021 2. I am a emotional reader. That said this is how I felt about this book:

I picked this up between ARCs and I am glad I did not request to read this AS A ARC because it would have been a mess. I enjoyed this book beyond words, I loved the hero and heroine and their honestly with one another and just their personalities. The plot line I loved no matter what because I am huge on SPORTS ROMANCES. So this is what really bugged me and I just could not get over it even after they attempted to 'redeem' themselves it physically hurt me because it felt so real. I won't do spoilers so this will have to be cryptic in a way but my problem first were with DAN & PEN CUTLER I am sorry but even after trying to justify himself and redeem I just I couldn't muster an ounce of care, PENN was so cruel it hurt me. The fact that KATE the heroine had a secret all along in a way, I was shocked because I didn't see it coming and it was a WHA MOMENTS. That said, her choices during the peek were not understandable by me, I hurt for Walker. Only because of the circumstances of the action on PEEN and the history, just couldn't get over it. Made me hate Kate so much and it lingered.

That's as far as I will go because I could write about how much that moment hurt for Walker or me because I was so invested in them. Sucks for me because up until that point I couldn't believe how much I loved them together, the foreplay almost the whole book, the boom, the kisses touches, forbiden...it was very sexy, sweet and beautiful. So that's where I stand.

I can happily say Walker and Kate are my absolute favourite couple of this series. They just hit the right spot and took me on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Walker is known for his fuck ups. He's know to be temperamental and fly off the handle. The players don't like him. The fans don't like him. Even the bosses are having a hard time finding redeeming qualities in his character because he just seems to be getting more grouchy with every passing day. But of course there is more than meets the eye with this growly giant. I loved him. He's got layers and it takes time for him to open up but when you get a peak at his vulnerable side?... I was sold. I fell in love.

Kate is assigned to help the bad guy get a better reputation. She knew from the beginning this man had more to offer than most thought. She never gave up on pushing and challenging him despite his frosty nature. She was the perfect sweet to his hard and really dug deep into who he was as a person not the star. I loved her strength and sheer willingness to go toe to toe with the giant. She's fierce and witty and full of hope. I love her, she's just that kind of character that is not only relatable. She's also impossible not to like because she's hilarious and all kinds of sweet.

These two. Dear lord the tension is insane. Those counts of five damn near had me having heart palpitations. They have this explosive chemistry that's tangible through the pages. A connection that cannot be ignored because it just continues to burn hotter the more they're together. It's electrifying. They had the kind of intimacy and vulnerability together that has you crying. They just made me swoon and smile and cry out in frustration. They were it for eachother. I can't even. It's two days post reading and I'm still stuck in my feels.

Everything about this story hit right. I was so consumed in all the feels going through a rollercoaster of emotions with every page I read. I adore the side characters and they're huge personalities that add even more depth to the pages. I loved all the outrageous shenanigans and hilariously dysfunctional relationships. The tension killed me dead. The chemistry is INTENSE. The feels are fucking real. This is slow burn at its best teasing and drawing out the inevitable in all the best ways whilst still giving their story substance. I believed in them, in their connection and rooted for their HEA. Meghan as always killed it and Walker was everything I needed and them some.

THE PERFECT CATCH WAS JUST EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED IN MY LIFE AFTER A CHRONIC BOOK SLUMP

Meghan Quinn wrote a story that HAS all the ingredients to make it unforgettable but also a favourite of mine.

It is impossible to not love Kate and Walker and I have to say that Walker is now one of my favourites.

KATE got a new job working for the Bobbies for her this job means everything and more importantly a new start in life. Kate’s experienced loss and struggled to see the light out of the tunnel but her friend Dan was there for her.
She excelled at her new job and was not intimidated by all the players she was managing but one… WALKER Rockwell.

“Mark it on your calendars. Today is the magical day when Walker Rockwell nudged me.”

Walker is the dominant alpha that is moody and hot tempered. Kate needs to help him to change his public image while fighting her feelings for him.
The company has one strict policy- you cannot get involved with a player.

They spend time with each other , get to know each other and they click. I love how Kate worked so hard to make Walker happy again, she’s the best friend we all dream to have!

I was rooting for them but knew that it couldn’t happen without paying the ultimate price…

Trust me when I say that You'll be smiling, as well as shaking your head with shock and wonderment, fidgeting to find out the outcome and having all the feels.

The Perfect Catch is an absolute joy from beginning to end
Scratch the surface and beneath the fun, flirting, and frivolity, you’ll find subtle, darker shades — of loss, grief and loneliness and that’s what made this story so very special.
