Cursed Hearts #1-2

Cursed Hearts: The Complete Duology

Rate this book
The complete Cursed Hearts duology in one collection full of nostalgia, romance, and paranormal fantasy. This box set includes Lyrics & Curses and Music & Mirrors. Perfect for fans of Stranger Things and Pretty in Pink. Their love for music sparked a curse...Lark Espinoza could get lost in her music--and she's not so sure anyone in her family would even care to find her. Her trendy, party-loving twin sister and her mother-come-lately Beth, who's suddenly sworn off men and onto homemaking, don't understand her love of cassette tapes, her loathing of the pop scene, or her standoffish personality. For outcast Lark, nothing feels as much like a real home as working at Bubble's Oddities store and trying to attract the attention of the cute guy who works at the Vinyl shop next door--the same one she traded lyrical notes with in class.Auden Ellis silences the incessant questions in his own head with a steady stream of beats. Despite the unconditional love of his aunt-turned-mother, he can't quit thinking about the loss of his parents--or the possibility he might end up afflicted with his father's issues. Despite his connection with lyric-loving Lark, Auden keeps her at arm's length because letting her in might mean giving her a peek into something dangerous. When two strangers arrive in town, one carrying a mysterious, dark object and the other playing an eerie flute tune, Lark and Auden find that their painful pasts have enmeshed them in a cursed future. Now, they must come to terms with their budding attraction while helping each other challenge the reflection they see in the mirror. If they fail, they'll be trapped for eternity in a place beyond reality.

Tragic. Sad. Emotional. Scary. A great way to experience the author's writing range. Read each book in the duology and left separate review but wanted to share how much I enjoyed it here too!

The Cursed Hearts Duology is the perfect balance of romance and mystery set in the 80's that will keep you guessing until the end. Robinson creates a fantastic world with so many layers and twists, and turns that I didn't see coming. I fell in love with the characters and the premise of both stories. If you love the 80's and music and love stories and curses, these books are for you.

I absolutely adore both of these books. Each compliments the other perfectly! Here's my review of both! READ THIS DUOLOGY!!

Lyrics and Curses 5 stars:
I’m a big fan of Candace Robinson’s writing. If you’ve read any of my other reviews of her work you’ll know that all of her books that I’ve picked up so far is unique, smoothly engaging, and so far out of the box that it probably couldn’t even see said box if it was in an open space with binoculars. When I picked up Lyrics & Curses I expected something strong, but this blew my expectations completely out of the water. I love everything about it. From the snarky comments, to the 80s setting (which she nailed BTW. Took me back to my childhood with the music, clothing, and home phones on a cord lol!).

Lark and Auden are fantastic characters who are developed perfectly. They’re compatible teens with a love of all the same music, and find themselves attracted to one another in every way. They’re teens though, so naturally they’re stuck in an unspoken game of criss-cross when it comes to their not-so-dating, yet seek-one-another-out and connect in random ways. What’s odd tho, is that the book starts out with them each seeing this being of sorts who disappears at will. No one else sees this man with an object, nor do they hear the unmistakable tune of a flute as it plays when he shows up… no one else but Lark and Auden. When they wind up working together after Auden loses his job, things really kick up a notch. You see, this strange being is more than just strange, and there’s more than just him out there.

Lark and Auden wind up cursed. This curse is unique, it’s powerful, and it feels very very real! Imagine waking up one day as a ghost. No one can see you, even your loved ones, and as you navigate the world trying to be seen you find yourself as a double. Someone else is in your body, living your life in evil little ways. Together, Lark and Auden must find a way to break their curse for a short amount of time, before they’re stuck in this alternate existence forever.

If I tell you any more than this it’ll give too much away. I probably already have actually, and I hate spoilers so I’m just going to shut up now. There’s love, there’s immense loss, and so very much more. This is up there with the best few books I’ve read so far this year. A big fat thanks to the author for giving me a free copy of this book before it’s release in exchange for an honest review.

Music and Mirrors 5 stars:
Talk about an amazing follow up to the fantastic Lyrics and Curses! In book 1 of the cursed Hearts series Lark and Auden find themselves stuck in an alternate existence, a place between dimensions where mirrors are a key link between them. But, what about the other side? What about Mira, the dimension of their curse’s origins and of the people who seem to have taken their place on the earth plane??? Well, in Music and Mirrors you get to see what is going on behind the scenes, as well as being thrown into a whole news adventure from a whole different angle and it’s phenomenal!

Leni is a Piper, and she’s forever followed and haunted by the shadows. The very shadows that landed her in the position she’s in, yet she’s kept their existence a secret up until now. I love Leni, her story is one of a kind and her heart is as pure as gold despite the dish she’s been served in her existence in the dimension of Mira.

Then there is Ridley, the one who’s destined to become the Mirror Keeper, and the one who holds Leni’s heart. Ridley has been dealt one hell of a lifetime, that is until he and Leni’s fates are intertwined. Their love for one another brings them to making choices that are less than ideal. They wind up back on the earth plane to seek the help of Lark and Auden. This allows the reader back into their lives for a bit which is awesome. I just love Lark!

A big fat thanks to the author for providing me a copy in exchange for my honest review, I love love love this story line! The world building of Mira is so cool. If you’ve ever looked into a mirror and wondered what it would be like to have someone peering out at you from the other side from a whole other dimension (don’t lie either, we all have) then you’ll really enjoy the setting of this place. There are twists and tragedies throughout that bring you to the edge of your seat. There’s phenomenal music referencing. They actually USE music throughout in many ways, it’s a pretty cool aspect and adds a lot of life to the book! If you’re yet to dive into book one then do it, you have plenty of time to read it before this one comes out!

Thank you so much to Candace Robinson for the digital version of lyrics and curses and music and mirrors the sequel. It all starts with Lark and Auden who work in an oddity shop. Being cursed a weird guy dressed all in black a lady all in black playing space oddisy on  the flute all seemed to be connected. Can they break the curse before it is to late. In book 2 we see Leni the piper and Ridley the mirror keeper and their world. Can they convince Lark and Auden to help them end the curse forever, secrets will also be revealed. You are not born in the mirror world you are made out of ten year old glass. Both of these books are loaded with 80's songs and references, like Walkmans and cassette tapes it is as if you are in the 80's. I would recommend this book to my friends and family LAURA8759.

I loved this duology so much!! It’s a romantic fantasy story that takes place in the 80’s!! The first book, Lyrics & Curses, is about Lark and Auden. They get to know each other and fall in love through lyrics, and through their trying to break the spell put on them through a mirror. Then the second book, Music & Mirrors, we get our answers to questions from book one, with Leni & Ridley. I loved the romance in this one. Actually in both stories!! The two couples have the love of music in common. Auden & Ridley are both dreamy book boyfriends!!!!

My favourite series by Candace in one edition! Lyrics and Curses follows Lark and Auden on a creepy, paranormal fight for their lives, followed by Music and Mirrors with a tense conclusion in an alternate world with awesome characters. These gorgeous books also throw you back into the 80's with a cool soundtrack!
