Prepare for loss, angst but most of all hope in this slow burn medical romance with a sexy little age gap. Just when you think you know where life is taking you… think again.
The stories in this series just keep getting better. This one was no exception. Meredith as the head neurosurgeon had no patience for colleagues, administrators and patients. Being a brilliant surgeon did not accompany a good bedside manner. She was cold and indifferent and just preferred to be alone. Emily was brought in to the hospital to do a psychological audit while the hospitals audit was going on. First up Meredith. Based on her file the complaints lodged against were all for her mannerisms. It seems patients and some doctors all of the same feeling, Meredith was a cold bitch. During their interview, Meredith made it known that her work ethic is all that should count and as Emily tried to breakdown Meredith, she realized something about this women intrigued her. Meredith being called away during their interview let Emily with some thoughts to ponder on how to proceed. We learn a lesson here; we never know what someone has suffered in their life to make them not happy. As this story unfolds you fall in love with the thought of Emily and Meredith together. With the twists and turns this turned out to be the part of this series. Great Job Ruby Scott!
This romantic, medical age-gap story grabbed me from the beginning. Meredith was the best neurosurgeon in the hospital with a perfect record. There was no question as to her surgical skills, but she struck out with her people skills. During a hospital audit to weed out the bad, no other staff member had anything kind to say about Meredith; only agreeing that she was a top-notch surgeon. Enter Emily, a member of the audit team who conducted psychological evaluations of the doctors. Her first impressions of Meredith echoed those of the hospital staff and led to her writing a negative review in her preliminary evaluation report. Emily was housed in a condo, coincidentally as a neighbor to Meredith. Their friendship began as fellow joggers and progressed to much more as Meredith eventually opened up as to the death of her wife and child back in England, and why she was such a cold and unfriendly person. Emily was able to open Meredith up and was beginning to see positive changes in her. Then something accidentally and unfortunately happened to break their close bond, driving Emily back to California. The story continues on, following their personal journeys, very skillfully following them until the HEA that Ruby Scott always promises. This was a wonderful, heart grabbing book that I truly loved.
The story doesn’t turn out the way I think they’re going to, and I’m not sure if I like it.
In the first few chapters, Meredith is cold and distant, even a little rude. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to read about how the ice queen would melt by the younger psychologist Emily. Unfortunately, the melting process didn’t exist. One moment Meredith is still distant and defensive, and then suddenly, she’s spilling all of her heart and the past stories to Emily. It just feels so out of character, and I can’t help but feel my reading mood is a bit distracted by it.
What a ride. I was intrigued the moment I read "surgeon and psychologist" and "age gap". The entire book gave me Grey's Anatomy feels in the best possible way. The struggle, getting to see Meredith evolve and make progress? Loved it. What shattered my heart (for Meredith) and made me love Emily even more was the fact that she stood up to Meredith and didn't just readily agree to go with whatever the easiest thing would be. My first thought was that the grand gesture would surely be well received by Emily and I was a little surprised at first when it wasn't. I loved it because Meredith definitely wasn't ready. And for Emily to stand up for herself and tell her that? So good. I loved how they met again, how it all got resolved...

Take one closed off stuck up surgeop closed off because of the loss of her child and wife throw in a compassionate psychologist and stir. Several missteps along the way the way and a few chabce meetings, when you realise that you love and need someone it's difficult but not impossible to heal and find love. There are lots of plot twists not found in real life but this is a romantic healing story of love. It's not reality but a great read. There is an HEA.
Meredith is a neurosurgeon and I seen as a very cold person. Meredith has secrets don’t know what everyone knows and she is running away from the grief she feels until she meets Emily when they have an audit at the hospital she works at. Meredith makes a number of Mistakes in her relationship with Emily and the part I’m not very good terms. The characters are very good in this book and make you feel emotion with them. The plot revolves around how Meredith has to stop running away from her problems and try to change yourself into a more loving person. Change does not come easy to Meredith and then as a result she loses Emily and then tries to change herself. There is lots of drama and emotion in this book and I recommend it to all I would love an age gap romance with complications.
i found this book hard to deside weather i liked it or not for all the angst and over thinking it from the main charactors, and the end was torture for me and i suspect a large propotion of fellow readers, yes it had all the charm and wit from all of the other city gen stories, but it just lacked something for me, can i just say how could you miss scott take me all the way though this book and then make me beleave the one thing that lesfic always has which is a hea,
This story was so right on about the high jinks that take place in the hospital. I worked as a nurse for 40 years and the description of the surgeons was right on. I don’t think there ever was an audit as the one described in the book but there was certainly the same hysteria when the Joint Commission was around to evaluate for accreditation.
Meredith is a neurosurgeon with a god complex and a remote and cold disposition caused by past loss. Emily is part of the audit team hired to evaluate the hospital and staff. As a therapist she has to get past the barriers around Meredith’s heart. A healing story that takes them half a world away before they find each other. Great series.
This is a sexy age gap about Emily and Meredith, they have great chemistry! They take you on a emotional journey including happiness, sadness, angst and lust! Another great read by Ruby! I highly enjoyed!
This is a thoroughly enjoyable story about life and love, pain and joy. The author does an incredible job of making you feel that you're right there with the characters in the book. Well done.
A brain surgeon meets her match in a audit. Problem! No extra romances while on duty. A wrong sentence made in haste and nature takes over to smooth things out. A good story on the effects of a professional doctor life. Enjoy!
I actually rate this about 4.5 This story was well written and interesting. The story line was a bit different and fresh. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. Good flow. And pretty hot scenes as well. Will read more from this author.
I loved the story. Dr. Aisquith had had a lot of sorrow. Emily was very sweet. There is quite a bit of angst. In the end there is so much love between them. Great love scenes with a great ending.
Great series! I'm definitely Sad it's over I had such a blast reading these books. This was definitely a favorite and a great ending to the series. Will be reading more from the author and adding this to my collection.
As I started reading this book, I felt I would not like it. So I kept on and to my surprise it turned out a good story. The characters in spite of all their flaws, and tragedies they were able overcome and heal though love. Some parts brought me to tears.
Awesome in essence of two people in the power of love
Growth and meaning of loss and trust in welcoming love once again after cutting off one’s hurtful heart is a journey into one’s own self trust in self love and sharing it with another.
