Romilly King’s bestselling trilogy of dark gay romances collected together in one thrilling edition. Read Nathan and Gray’s story in its entirety as their relationship evolves over the course of Handled, Cleansed and Polished.
Serial killers think if it all goes south and they finally get caught that their swan song is a day in court, making the families relive the agony while they get off on that delicious pain, all over again. Not happening. Not anymore. We’re not making celebrities out of monsters. We’re not giving them a stage to strut on. Now they get an audience of two. One to Handle the problem, one to Witness it. I’m a Witness. I trained for six years to do my duty, to manage my contracted killer, and to watch justice be done. I knew it would be hard, the first time, to watch the eye for an eye moment. I expected to feel a lot of things – fear, disgust, guilt. I didn’t expect to feel turned on. And I didn’t expect my contracted killer to look quite so pretty with blood on his hands. The Handled Trilogy are genre crossing works that combine psychological thrillers with dark mm romance, they contain themes of justice, retribution, and unsuitable love. They are not for the faint of heart and contain graphic scenes intended for an adult audience. Further trigger warnings can be found inside.
What would it be like if Dexter Morgan’s method was an official department of the justice system? That’s essentially this book.
Serial killers don’t languish on death row exhausting the appeals process. They don’t get off on technicalities. Punishment is swift and permanent. There is no doubt of their guilt, reasonable or otherwise. Their execution is “handled” by trained killers who themselves could have become serial killers if not for the intervention of the department. All executions are officially sanctioned and performed with a “Witness”. Families are given closure in a timely manner.
I received a free copy of book 2 in exchange for a review, so to be fair I read the first book. I loved it. It’s dark, it’s disturbing, it’s serial killers - pretty much what I look for in a book at the moment. It’s open ended so you need to read book 2, book 3 rounds out the trilogy nicely. In fact I liked the books and characters so much I looked up and bought the trilogy set on Amazon even though it’s available on Kindle Unlimited. I know I will want to read this again. It has typos but what books don’t lately? At least they are few. I wish the books were longer and more killers had been “handled”. Loved the premise, looking forward to the future books in this world. Hoping the rest of the authors books are this good.
This wasn't bad... but it wasn't great eigher. I think it sits neatly in the middle, making it an interesting read, but one i was happy didn't last any longer than it did.
The first book, i think, deserved a 4. The idea behind the sypnosis is a unique one, one that would absolutely never be possible in a well developped society, but then again, society as we know it is already pretty fucked, so, i wouldn't be surprised if we ended up this way eigher.
The handlers in these books get to decide how the guilty die. Do they prolong their suffering or do they go for a quick death.
That is so crazy and out there.
I mean, they are literally freakin' psychos themselves... it just blew my mind. but yeah - interresting!
The second book, to me, was worth a little under 3 stars. I wasn't impressed. We revisit Gray's past, and it's strangely underwhelming. I mean, if the guy can't bring himself to care, why should I?
The last book brought the end up to a 3.5. It was ok - it was all right. Nothing great, but, an interesting ending to this trilogy.
I really liked these 3 stories. They were the first I had ever read from Romilly King. Part way through all the news about Romilly and plagiarism came out. I seriously debated on whether or not to finish. Ultimately, opted to finish because I was already attached to the characters and needed to know how it all ended. I truly hope these stories were in no way plagiarized. Whoever wrote them did well. It was intrigued throughout.
I admit it..I love to read about serial killers and psychological deviants. This book was good. The whole concept of handler and witness was new. The courtroom reminded me of Dexter’s kill rooms…just better. Highly recommend if you are into this subject.
Gray is the psycho of Nathan's dreams. Of course Nathan is the perfect person to love the beast that lives within Gray, having loved and raised a monster himself.
