A series of people and creatures are invited to a party, beginning with the titular witch, each one giving a conditional acceptance, provided someone else is invited. The Witch asks for Cat, Cat asks for Scarecrow, and so on, until eventually a group of children is invited. They, of course, ask for the witch to be invited...
Designed to be read interactively - the child/children read the first part ("Witch, Witch, please come to my party"), while the adult(s) read the response ("Thank you, I will, if you invite Cat") - Witch, Witch, Come to My Party would make for an entertaining read-aloud selection at story-hour or bedtime. The text is quite simple - just the invitation and response on each two-page spread - so each page is dominated by the colorful, expressive artwork of Pat Ludlow. I really enjoyed the illustrations here, finding them both creepy and beautiful. Recommended to anyone looking for interactive picture-books with a spooky feeling.
For some reason, this book has been a HUGE success in Brazilian schools for the past decades. I bet it sold here more than 1 million copies. It's either this or THE NAPPING HOUSE the great international classic for very young children. But Audrey/Don Wood's book is a best-seller throughout the world, and this one here seems almost forgotten.
The spooky illustrations are great for Halloween. A witch is invited to the Halloween party but she wants to invite a plus one that wants to also invite a plus one and so forth until she is in turn invited at a full circle.
Unbelievable pictures. Sent by my mom, a former kindergarten teacher, to read over FaceTime with her granddaughter, who picked up the pattern of the story immediately and can “read” this book by herself or to others now.
'Witch, Witch come to my party' is a book full of exuberant illustrations which will provide hours of fun for children to analyse and describe. The book is an almost riddle. There is a continuous mystery in this book: Who is inviting them? Where are they going? What sort of party is it?
This book would provide an excellent lesson on imaginative and creative writing. It's got lots of fantastic characters that could be used for character descriptions. This book would be aimed at children in KS1.
A very young-age oriented book. The text is minimal; the concept is decent, although the link between the characters sometimes feels a little random. But the illustrations are very nice and pretty startling, so a good Halloween book. Could see it being a fun read for the right age.
Repetitive language in the book means that children could join in when reading this story aloud. The imagery is graphic and would be interesting to look at the pictures in great depth.
Adorei!
The illustrations are amazing... but honestly terrifying. Doesn't really scream "children's book". The text is super repetitive in a not-fun way. It was a bore to read.
