Demigods of Pendilor

Rate this book
The Sun God Suriyar has two children with mortal Ourania; Assyri, a daughter, and Bolara, a son. As demigods, they have unique powers, and as royalty, they are positioned for greatness. Family dynamics are tested and boil over, as older daughter Assyri ascends the throne. Furious that his sister is in charge, Bolara plots to overthrow her and rule as a tyrant. Queen Assyri’s two children must learn to hone their abilities to combat the evil that is at hand, and in doing so, become sworn enemies of their own cousins, Bolara’s children, who have been taught to use their powers for ruthless domination, by the mighty General Thamios. A powerful story of betrayal, violence, passion, and finding one’s inner strength, with epic battles involving Dragons, Tolverines (a wolf like creature the size of an elephant), Lawky’s (a mystical bird with healing properties), and highly skilled demigods, with uncanny abilities. The stakes are high, and the action is compelling. The DemiGods of Pendilor are about to collide!

Thanks for this review copy!

Assyri runs the kingdom of Pendilor. Her brother Bolara is not too happy about it. He wants to take over. Assyri’s Children, Arteo and Preeya get trained to counter the evil that comes. They learn how to use their demigod abilities.

This book was probably a bit too manly for me. There was a lot of fighting. Less of a story, just like an action movie.
Not bad at all, but just not really for me. I think most men will have more fun with all the blood and fighting this book gives you.

There was a little bit of a love story but it absolutely didn’t had the focus.

Absolute fun read, I read it in one afternoon. If you like fantasy, this is a definite recommendation. It has a distinct mythological feel to it and a beautiful and vivid fantasy world with weird and wonderful creatures. It took me a while to get into, fantasy isn't normally my genre of choice, but by the second half I was completely invested in Prince Arteo's adventures and love. Absolutely adored Karina. Loved how intense and compelling the battles were, it had all my attention. Looking forward to the next one! Well done, Lawrence!

My Review
In the start, the story did not pick my interest. But I know every fantasy book is like that. You don't know what is happening until you complete the first half. After first half was amazing when Arteo and her sister are now working toward claiming their home back. So, to be concise this book is awesome if you are into high fantasy.

This was a very good read!

I will start with the positives. The description in this book was second to none. I felt I could fully invision the world the author has created and every character became a fully realised image in my mind. The world building and plot were captivating. If you love demi gods and sibling rivarly this book gives all that and more

My only issue was the descriptive element sometimes over took the story element. For example, the prologue, it was more of a get to know the world then an introduction to the plot or a mystery to be solved for later. I feel the prologue for this book should of been moved to the back of the book as a separate part of the book given depth to the entire world. To summarise simply I just believe the story should of taken more importance over the descriptive element.

This novel combines the Lord of the Rings world and Greek mythology for an adventurous, epic fantasy tale. The author transports us on a journey that rivals Homer's Odysseus, my favourite mythology tale.
The clash between good and evil is fought with fists, swords, and blasts of magical energy. Nevertheless, the supernatural powers of demigods can sometimes be subdued by the sheer determination and willingness to the survival of mortal beings.
The writing is concise and vivid, and as I read the story, I felt like I could watch a movie as the scenes played out before me. I would be excited to see this novel brought to life on-screen.
The book is thrilling, and I look forward to discovering what comes next!

Family grudges and demigods make for myth-like fantasy

All the great myths involved some sort of “family” infighting. Demigods of Pendilor take a page from the Greeks (or Romans), sewing a tale of jealousy and rage that knows no human or earthly bounds.

It leads to death. It leads to war. But along the way, there is also loyalty, friendship, god-like powers. Some political intrigue and alliances. Some strange rock soldiers? (You’ll have to read book 2)

And also love: parental, familial, and romantic.

I’m not particularly partial to first person present tense, especially from an omniscient POV. But the story and characters were engaging. The villains were bad, terrible, unredeemable. And our heroes overcame impossible odds - exactly how fantasy tales should be.

Great book

Started out slow for me, but I can see it was needed to build the story. Once it picked up it carried on at a fast pace. Never letting you even have a chance to hesitate to keep reading. The romance is sweet and appropriate for lots of different age groups. Well written, and super exciting. I can’t help but wonder, what will happen in book two!

☀️🪄🗡️👑

This book starts you out with a bit of necessary but entertaining world building and fluidly leads into a very action packed tale of demigods & their lives. I think the story triggers all the necessary emotions you need to feel for a gripping plot line- I sighed, cried, laughed, gasped and rolled my eyes more than once while the story unfolded before me. I found it impossible to be bored whilst reading this book, there was not a sentence that I found to be unnecessary or boring. That being said, Fantasy is something I love to read so I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am eager to read the next one!

✨Special thanks to the author for contacting me about this book and sending me a kindle copy! I really enjoyed reading your book. ✨

Blown away

I really loved this book. The narration at times was like god-tier poetry from the likes of Tolkien. This book would make an outstanding TV show or a standalone feature film. It is written in the 3rd person present tense, which I have never read before, and the story is brilliantly told. I highly enjoyed the arc of the characters and the kingdom in this single title. Everything was well fleshed out and the universe of this book is thoughtfully crafted and intriguing. On point pacing and I particularly enjoyed the authors descriptions during fights. Not over the top, but still brutal. I was blown away by this story. Highly recommend.

Wow I really liked this book. If you love fantasy grab this book. The one sided hatred of the sibling and his kids was intense. To me it was a story of greed and pure hatred and jealousy will cause your down fall in the end. Was glad they got their just desserts in the end. Interested to see where book two will lead.

When your blood thirsty brother and his offspring believe that you and yours are too soft and compassionate to hold the crown.

A fast paced fantasy story with mythical beasts, evil vs good, gruesome battles, underhanded tactics, a side story of romance, tragedy and triumph, betrayal, strong female characters, dark magic and mythology.

I loved Lawrence’s descriptions of the kingdoms, characters, other worldly creatures and the explanation of the creation of demigods, drawing you into a tale of suspense and leaving you wanting more.

The story does conclude, however it’s does leave an opening for the second book which I’m looking forward to reading.

A signature read! I love how Jayaraj builds the sibling rivalry and antagonistic relationships between the main characters. The incoming betrayals are all the most obvious red flags and the reader is left wringing their hands over the protagonists’ willful turning of the other cheek - until that cheek, too, is bruised and torn. When the protagonists’ respond, it satisfies all a reader’s innate need to give as good as one gets.
The book is a beautiful verbal illustration of the environments of Pendilor. Jayaraj takes his time describing the emotional buildup to the break-point in the story, and keeps the reader hanging on with both hands as the story moves along at a fast clip. The reader will clearly find themselves on either side of the familial divide from the story’s start and tensions only escalate from there. A fast and impactful adventure that leaves the reader wanting more! Looking forward to the next installment.

This was an overall delightful read—I read the majority of it in one sitting. It’s fast-paced and well-developed in a short amount of narrative time. The prose and characters were compelling, and I loved the balance of fantasy with a touch of mythology serving as undertones of the plot. It was an overall excellent balance of masterful world-building, vivid descriptions, well-rounded characters, action, and adventure. I’m absolutely looking forward to the next one!

I finished this book in one afternoon, it was a great fantasy read for the weekend. I would definitely read more if this becomes a series! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Pros: The world and it’s characters were fascinating! I found myself cheering them on and smiling in their special moments. I know at least three times I secretly hoped this would one day become a movie. The villains were the kind you absolutely love to hate, it gave me Game of Thrones vibes as I anxiously awaited the end.

Cons: This could just be me, but in the first quarter of the book I struggled with the descriptions. There was a lot said that was sort of understood already. Because of that, it gave me the impression of more of a youth novel until I reached the middle of the book. Once there, things become much more graphically violent, which was great, but it didn’t match up with what I was expecting descriptions wise.

Regardless of cons, I found myself unable to put this book down and plan to buy a paperback version in the future. Great read!

Recommended for those who like gripping action and betrayal.

In Demigods of Pendilor, Lawrence E. Jayaraj creates a mythology where the Sun God, Suriyar has sired two demigod children. The family dynamics lead to division between the two sides of the family and when Assyri takes the throne, her younger brother Bolara schemes to take the throne. In a world of magical powers, the author leads the reader through a conflict between good and evil in an enjoyable and exciting way. Lawrence E. Jayaraj is an able storyteller, and this first-in-a-series novel bodes well for the next editions. This is a relatively short read and is aimed at the young adult market. It is a fast-paced fantasy that I thoroughly recommend to those who like gripping action and betrayal.

I was asked to read this but these are my own thoughts.

I really enjoyed this fantasy by Lawrence
E. Jayaraj. He did a fantastic job building a world and characters that you can enjoy. I could absolutely see this adapted to the big screen.

If you enjoy demigods and their drama with some good battle scenes I recommend this book about two siblings and their children fighting over the throne to Pendilor.

P.s. i know i should hate her, but i kinda love Syrana.
Shes a nasty little shit. She reminds me of Azula from Avatar the last airbender though and i cant resist

I must admit I was not 100% sold when I said I would read this book, but I can honestly say I really enjoyed it.

I love how action-packed it was. The story moved fast but gave us a lot.
I enjoyed that it did not just follow one character it was POV of all of them. This was done well, too, so it was not confusing

The book is fantasy booked that could be aimed at YA as no spice, does have on page violence.

This book was amazing! I’m not that into fantasy but this book sucked me in. The development of each of the characters were written with great description. This whole book was like watching a movie in my head. Assyri and Bolara each had their own powers and so did their children. This made for an amazing read and I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Fantasy! It only lost a star for me because of the prologue. The prologue was very long and a bit confusing personally. I feel like both the characters and kingdom descriptions could’ve been built into the chapters. It would’ve flown better. Other than that, the book was amazing and I loved it!

A nice YA story

The Demigods of Pendilor offers an imaginative blend of mythology and medieval fantasy. The author builds an immersive world, populating it with larger-than-life demigod characters endowed with uncanny abilities. The narrative centers on a compelling dynastic struggle between siblings, seamlessly integrating themes of power, betrayal and redemption. While the mystical elements add flare, the story succeeds most as a Shakespearean drama about royal ambition and divide. The demigods feel human despite their magical gifts, driven by jealousy and thirst for control like any mortal. While epic in scope, the focuses stays tight on the intimate family feud. The world-building provides just enough detail to give context without overshadowing the personal plot. Some characters feel more fully realized than others, but the key protagonists engage the reader. The medieval setting comes alive with imaginative creatures and action-packed battle scenes. However, the expositions on willpower and strength become repetitive. The prose is serviceable without being artful. Overall, an entertaining page-turner for fantasy fans, if not a literary triumph. With emotional resonance and creative vision, Demigods delivers an enjoyable flight of fancy.

A cross between Harry Potter and Game of Thrones..the writing is superb! The descriptions and the detail made it so easy to picture the characters and the setting, while reading this book. Great fantasy read! This book took me a few chapters to really get into, but once I did I couldn't put it down. The sun god had two children, a daughter and a son. The daughter Assyri is the queen and her brother Bolara is wild jealous of her power.
Assyri and Bolara each have two children. Assyri's children are kind and thoughtful, while Bolara's children are as ruthless and heartless as their father. Throughout childhood, Bolara's children terrorized Assyri's, and tensions continued to grow.

After years of plotting and training, Bolara and his children successfully overthrow Assyri's rule, banishing her and her family to the wild jungles. This is the point where I became hooked on this story. During the journey out of the castle and into the jungle, the brother Artero becomes separated from his mother Queen Assyri and his sister Preeya. Assyri and Preeya believe he is dead, and they begin creating a new encampment of loyal survivors in the jungle to train for the upcoming battle to take back the kingdom.

Artero wakes up after being rescued by one of the jungle tribes with no memory of who he is, and a black mask that he cannot remove obscuring his face that was put there with divine powers which hides his identity. Artero begins to rebuild his life within this tribe until his past catches up to him, and he is forced to master his growing powers to save both of his families.

The battle scenes were the best part of this book. There was so much tension and build up leading up to them, and they were written with great detail to really put the reader onto the battlefield next to the characters. My biggest complaint about books with battle scenes are that they aren't long enough for me, and this one did NOT have that problem! This book also featured magic and magic creatures, a dragon (as seen on the cover), themes of found family and sibling bond, the hero's quest. I'm so happy I read this book and I will be reading the next one in the series! Great job to this author!

“Demigods of Pendilor - The lost soul”

This book is filled with adventure, magic, war and redemption which all make for a thrilling Fantasy tale!!

The authors ability for world building is unmatched! From the kingdoms to the characters, smells, feelings, etc were perfectly described in such a way that I felt I was standing there watching every word take place!

A very clear line was drawn between good and evil and I found it exciting that both sides came from the same family, within the same kingdom. There was absolutely zero difficulty in differentiating between the good and the bad sides and the desired feelings towards each were created from the get go.

The story was good and solid although I felt that some of the “world building and descriptions” as the chapters carried on, took away from creating a stronger storyline. Some chapters felt like it carried on too long whereas others felt clipped and lacked more intricate details.

The characters were amazing and again descriptions of each made you feel like you were part of the family! I could absolutely feel my heart ache with Queen Assyri and Princess Preeya during their most difficult trials, and again feel hope and joy fill my heart when they regained their kingdom and were finally free of Bolara and his evil spawn!

This book was a pleasant surprise and I really enjoyed escaping into this magical world with Gods, Demigods and plenty of other fantastical beings!!

The epilogue was riveting and promises a sequel that won’t disappoint!!

I look forward to Book 2.
