En este volumen se reúnen todos los libros de cuentos que Willa Cather publicó o proyectó en son, en total, dieciocho piezas que, de 1905 hasta 1947, el año de su muerte, cubren la evolución en el género del cuento y la nouvelle de una escritora dispar, con una sensibilidad excepcional para plasmar los efectos del paso del tiempo y del cambio de espacio en la vida de unos personajes comúnmente desarraigados, o bien rebeldes a un arraigo que confina sus deseos y sueños.

Willa Cather
904 books2,787 followersWilella Sibert Cather was born in Back Creek Valley (Gore), Virginia, in December 7, 1873.
She grew up in Virginia and Nebraska. She then attended the University of Nebraska, initially planning to become a physician, but after writing an article for the Nebraska State Journal, she became a regular contributor to this journal. Because of this, she changed her major and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English.
After graduation in 1894, she worked in Pittsburgh as writer for various publications and as a school teacher for approximately 13 years, thereafter moving to New York City for the remainder of her life.
Her novels on frontier life brought her to national recognition. In 1923 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her novel, 'One of Ours' (1922), set during World War I. She travelled widely and often spent summers in New Brunswick, Canada. In later life, she experienced much negative criticism for her conservative politics and became reclusive, burning some of her letters and personal papers, including her last manuscript.
She was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1943. In 1944, Cather received the gold medal for fiction from the National Institute of Arts and Letters, an award given once a decade for an author's total accomplishments.
She died of a cerebral haemorrhage at the age of 73 in New York City.

Llibre de relats. De moment tots amb protagonistes femenines relacionades amb la música. Ambient intel·lectual de finals segle XIX i principis del XX, m'encanta. Retrat profund, físic i psicològic dels diversos personatges.
Un agradable descobriment aquesta autora. Miraré de llegir novel·les d'ella.
Dels llibres de narracions com aquest, on m'agraden els relats, em costa recordar com era cada història, se'm barregen. M'agradaria que cadascuna durés més per això penso buscar més llibres (novel·les) de Willa Cather.
Aquest el vaig comprar en una llibreria de Breslau, a Polònia, m'havia quedat sense lectura i vaig anar a una curiosa llibreria que tenia un espai per a llibres en castellà.
Acabat el llibre es podria dir que els darrers relats m'han agradat menys. L'últim ...buff Curiosament els menys interessants van publicar-se postumament. Igual ella no els hagués posat a la llum mai.
El que m'ha molestat és quan ha parlat d'astronomia. És que no en tenia ni idea, quina pena. Parla d'un eclipsi de Venus (estrany) però en un altre relat uns nois miren el cel d'estiu i veuen Orió!! I són a l'hemisferi nord...
Els millors: ¡Próximamente, Afrodita! -- Una mina de diamantes -- Una babucha dorada (****)-- El vecino Rosicky -- La anciana señora Harris (****) -- Dos amigos (*****) -- El caso de Paul.
Llibre irregular, potser hagués estat millor acabar-lo a la pàgina 440
