A chance encounter. Fated paths. Unlikely allies.

When I was young, I met a boy at the waterfall on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Our pack was prohibited from venturing there. But being the alpha's only child and a bit of a social misfit, it became my second home.

Tiam and I became best friends, experiencing each other's firsts and building an unbreakable bond. Until fate caught up with us, and I had no choice but to reject him, to protect him from myself and my pack. It was the wrong choice, leaving me more shunned and outcasted than before.

Years later, ostracized and sick of dealing with the alpha holes in Sibyl Falls, I plan my escape, and that all goes to shit when my biggest secret is uncovered. To make matters worse, young girls in our pack start disappearing, and no one takes it seriously until one of those girls turns out to be someone I care deeply about.

On the run and trying to Nancy Drew this shit, I find myself working with the most unlikely ally, Damen Elder, the once heir to the largest shifter pack in the realms. He is deadly, sexy, and wounded. Yet, we are like colliding stars, unable to resist the pull and heat of our attraction. As the danger thickens and secrets begin to unravel, I discover his fate and mine are more interlinked than I could have ever imagined.

I feel the feminist urge to worship Nova and Edith for a variety of reasons ✊🏻❤️

This book deserves a lot more readers. What are you waiting for?

The relationship between Nova and Tiam is sweet as sugar. The circumstances of their young lives are tragic and it is so nice to see how they support each other. So considerate that the little lies will eventually become too big.

Edith and Damen, on the other hand, are like spicy rum. The smell enchants and the finish burns your throat.

I trusted my senses and was quite surprised that the bad guy doesn't seem evil after all ... Well, what can I say: Don't trust anyone.

I can't wait to read the story further. The cliffhanger is a thing. If you don't like cliffhangers, you better wait until all the books are out.

Otherwise, Damen is often a huge asshole and even if I can understand that he is very hurt, of course that is no excuse and you have to like this type of book boyfriend.

Thank you, Maya! I enjoyed your book!

3.5/5 Stars

If I were to rank my review on story and characters alone it would be rated 4.5-5 stars. I really fell into this story from the get-go and latched on to these characters with a ferocity. The one thing that really brought the rating down for me was the consistent amount of spelling and grammatical errors. It was as if this book has not been edited at all. I did enjoy the author's voice but it was getting lost in all of the constant errors. The plot was still interesting and intriguing enough for me to continue on regardless of all the grammatical errors throughout. I really formed an attachment to the characters. They were very relatable and memorable. I loved the romance in this book to pieces. I love the strong bond that the two main characters formed and the strange way they came back together. I am eager to continue their story and am hoping that the second book gets a better pass in the editing cave.

If you don't like cliffhangers, skip this book. Had I known this was a cliffhanger, I would have skipped it myself. The frustrating part is the book is good with plenty of suspense and twists and turns. It has an excellent plot, the characters are likable (except the villains), great world-building, and I was already wanting to read the next book in the series without the author using the cliffhanger ploy. The cliffhanger is unnecessary for a book as good as this one. It is like the author was so uncertain of her skills she felt it was the only way to bring the reader back. A good end gives the reader a breather while the rest of the book itself has whet the appetite for the next book in the series. This one left me angry and breathless.

I usually really like books about shifters but this one was not for me. It’s as if the writer decided to add every idea that came to her. Every one! There are so many arcs in here that there are enough stories for a whole series. I would have liked a simpler story.
SPOILER ALERT
Arc One—The book starts off describing how a benevolent alpha has been overthrown by an abusive alpha. Evil alpha attacks our protagonists family. Edith’s mother tells Edith to hide her wolf but we don’t understand why. Evil alpha kills the mother without explaining how she was insubordinate, then makes Edith and her dad outcasts in the pack.
Arc Two—Edith gets bullied every day so steals off to a hidden waterfall where she meets a friend and they begin meeting every week for five years which develops into a close friendship. Evil alpha son threatens her friend so she breaks It off, after five years!
Arc Three—Skip five years ahead, Edith is about to graduate from college and wants to escape the pack by claiming to be a mutt (a wolf that can’t change). She works in a secret underground club for supernatural guests to save money for her escape.
Arc Four—Girls are disappearing from many different territories it feels like no one cares or investigates.
Arc Five—Another pack alpha has been overthrown by the evil alpha. Something bad happens to the good alphas son and he is sent to a world between worlds to recover but it’s not clear what he is recovering from. He has also started a shelter for battered woman but is out for revenge against the evil alpha.
Arc Six—There is a benevolent goddess pulling peoples strings but it doesn’t seem to do any good for years and years.

I could go on and on but there is just too much here with little or no cohesiveness. There needed to be some editing here. There is no cohesion between the story arcs. The time line jumps around like crazy. The world building is thin and there are so many worlds to build. The characters are not well fleshed out, I don’t like any of them especially the adults that plainly see bullying on a daily basis and yet do nothing to stop it. I don’t care what happens to any of the characters, They simply are not likeable. On top of all that, the dialogue was unnatural. This book was not for me at all. I hope for the author’s sake and the sake of the story, a good editor will fix this. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I am so mad right now. What a rollercoaster this book took me on.

If you're not a fan of slow-burns and cliffhangers, this one probably wouldn't be for you, or at least not until the next book is out.
If you're a fantasy fan who likes wolves, badass women, a little bit of spice and an element of enemies-to-lovers then this is the book for you.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have mixed feelings with those first few chapters, there was so much going on it was a little hard to wrap my head around. The introduction of other fantasy elements apart from shifters threw me for a spin as well, but once I had a clearer understanding of the world building I enjoyed it a lot more. This was the only aspect that prevented it being a 5 star read, and I have high hopes for book 2 now that the base has been established!

I read this in one sitting because I just NEEDED to know what was happening and what was going to happen. Especially that last few chapters, I was so damn frustrated with the characters and miscommunication, and I was so anxious for where we were going to end up that I flew through it.

Maya writes the villains in a way that you don't even question the hatred and disgust for them. I wanted to jump in the book and throw hands a few times there. The other side characters like Brina, Morana and Maeve, I adored and would happily team up with to kick some ass.

I need more of Edith and Damen and I am so bloody impatient I can't believe I have to wait until the next book is released. I'll be damned if I don't read that one as an ARC as well. After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, I need it ASAP!

Once a alpha's daughter Edith felt a little rebellious. Secretly venturing to the Forbidden Forest Nova met Tiam. Each giving a secret name. As years went by they formed a bond until one dreaded night their world came crashing down.
Edith had hidden her shifter beast for years only to be forced for it to appear. A rare beast. Shifter split. When danger arises and a fight for her life she disappears into the Forbidden Forest but not before she is wounded.
Tiam was rejected by his fated mate then his father died by the hands of a powerful source. He had to go into hiding.
As the years went by Damen carried the curse of being rejected by his fated mate. Then out of the blue Edith crossed the forbidden barrier with her beast.
A cat and mouse game between Edith and Damen but she wanted Tiam.
As women's bodies were disappearing it seemed that was the one thing they had in common was locating them.
A shift between Damen and Edith and that's where it comes into a cliffy but so worth the wait.

Nova was delt a bad hand at life. I mean growing up the alpha daughter is supposed to be great. But it just makes her a outcast. Not only is she a outcast because of her looks. She went from her family being alpha to being scumbag. And the new alpha son has no problem reminding her of it an ass if you ask me! But not all is bad she stumbles unto a unlikely friend that morephes into something else. Something either of them had seen comeing. but life not done throwing her curve balls. She tries her hardest to keep moving and when she all but thinks that everything almost over and she might be able to leave the pack! Something else happend..

its a slow burn but i really enjoyed it :)

She Wolf . . .

As a young female, “Edith” met a boy at a waterfall where she was not supposed to be. He said his name was Tiam. Their relationship deepened from friendship to an unbreakable bond. But unless she rejected him, her pack would go after him since she was the Alpha’s daughter.

Years later, young females in the pack began to disappear. Everyone ignored it, so “Edith” had to take action when someone she cared about became a victim. Damen Elder, the once heir to the largest shifter pack in the realms, became her ally. They could not resist their attraction and secrets are about to come out. Will they find out that Damen’s fate and hers are closer than they know? Is her mate bond with Tiam still intact? And if so, why is she drawn also to Damen? There is still a large secret about the identity of her wolf… will she find out before the danger destroys her and she loses consciousness again?

I really like the site I found because I am introduced to many new authors through the stories they write.

What I like most is being able to sink into the book as a silent character tagging along. For that to take place several emotions like joy, love, angst and frustration that comes through thee actions within the book. This takes great world building and what I call pacing which is basically the smoothness into one chapter to the next.

As you can tell I'm not summarizing the story, nor am I being descriptive because I want you to form your own thoughts about one really good story. I will tell you that you will fall in love with the hunky alphas and strong woman who happen to be shapeshifters so if this is your kind of story grab a copy and found out what happens and form your own opinion.

I voluntarily chose to read this complimentary copy, to share my honest opinion with no compensation involved as my words are my own and cannot be bought.

Overall I find this a riveting book but I hate cliffhangers. They are not usually necessary nor do they add to the story, they simply break the flow of the story in my view.

The book started a bit slow and confusing with all the tidbits of world building that initially failed to allow a good understanding of the world Nova lived in and and realms Tiam came from. I still don’t exactly understand how they met with Sybil Falls being apart from Tiam’s realm. However, it was a cute friends to lovers story. Almost.

In the later chapters describing more of a enemies to lovers story of Edith and Damen, the characters and realms are much better fleshed out. There is some great world building with an impressive set of additional characters. It’s a bit spicier, too. It really sucked me in. However, it did irritate me that Nova stayed a virgin while Tiam slept around. Much too cliched!

If I had read this story prior to publication, I would have advised to flesh out the younger years and give a better understanding of the realms in that book and maybe finish that book with the rejection of the fated mates bond. Nevertheless, I fell in love with the characters and look forward to the sequel.

The plot points are tolerable. The world could be interesting. It definitely has multiple layers and things that we find out this we go.
But honestly I hated the writing. It is too self-aware and seems to be more of a way for the author to voice her opinions on all things book and writers.

I think I might have picked up this book with too high expectations. I know that some Indie published books are always improving and some typos, grammatical errors, and repeating information slips through. But this book had a lot of problems.

The book has such great potential and there are just so many things that I still want answers to after reading this book. I'm sure, if given the chance, that I'll pick up and read the sequel, because I liked the characters and, with some polishing, the plot could be amazing!

Keep an eye on Maya Morrison, in a few years she will be a well known author.

Thanks to the Book Sirens team, and the author for the free copy, in return for an honest book review.

How could you do that to me with that ending! I really hope book 2 is coming soon.

I liked this book, I really did, it’s got a good foundation. I loved the setup between the two main characters and the overall plot is interesting, some unexpected twists. Not crazy about either character’s present day personality but I got past it and I think they will improve.

However, this story has one of my least favorite things. It’s *checks calendar* 2022 and we’re STILL writing stories where the couple is separated and the girl remains a virgin while the guy sleeps around all over the place?! Really?

Despite that, I’m giving this 4 stars because it was a fun read with really good drama and angst

*thank you so much to Maya Morrison and Victory Editing for giving me a copy of the book for an honest review*

I really wanted to like this book.

But i just got so annoyed with it.
I kinda like the story but it just could've been written better.
But let me start at what made me dislike this book.

First:
The timelines. Oh my god. Oky so we start of with Edith being 14(prologue) and her mother being killed for insubordination. We don't get an explanation for this.. insubordination. Then chapter 1 Edith is 13 and she meets a boy at the waterfall. Then we switch to Tiam.. who is now 17 ? And he says he and Edith have been meeting for a year. Then he goes to see her and tells her his mother died. Oky next chapter Edith is 14 oky .. so they have been meeting for a year right oky cool. BUTTT then she says they have been friends for 3 years?? What??? Oky whatever.. then she meets Tiam again right after her mother died. Oky so this must have happened a few days after they met previously? Since he earlier mentioned they have been meeting for a year? Idk man.. you tell me cuz i didn't get any explanation.

Second:

Nothing is explained! I was confused most of the time the firts half of the book.
Why was her mother killed?
Why does she have to hide her wolf?
And when Duke is chasing her through the woods his in wolf form right? But they are talking as well? And he is wielding a dagger that he stabs her with? While she's running away from him on the back of her wolf? But he's still in his wolf form? I don't get it. Maybe i just wasn't focusing enough or something but i read that paragraph 3 times and was still confused. Then suddenly he's not chasing her anymore and Tiam is there?

Then there is also the case with how Tiam's dad died and how he lost his sight and also his entire realm. But we don't Know how it really happens. Like oky he stole your sight and the wolves but HOWWW.

Then apparently Tiam (damen) is in a pocket realm.. where he was healing.. from something .. and yeah.

Also when damen and edith meet when she wakes up she doesn't recognise him? Whyyy.. only after switching chapters do we learn after a while that he using a potion.

Third:

Damen.. omg.

And the bond..like..

Damen is such a fckng asshole.. he doesn't even wonder why she rejected him? He doesn't talk to her? He treats her like shit? He's known her for yeaaarsss and he just believes she lied because she rejected him even tho he knew something was off when he met her that night.

Then the fact that they are fated.. but yet she doesn't recognise him? Sure his appearance is different but she is suppose to sence him right? Like he sences her? She has to feel him like he can feel her .. right? Idk. Maybe im being to judgey. But being fated you obv recognise the other half of YOUR SOUL. But whatever. And he wants to confess and tell her everything but then he says no tomorrow ypu have to sleep.. but then kisses her? And i just uggh this man!!!

GROW. UP.

Anyway the story is interesting i did skip a lot of inner dialogue.. and there was.. ALOT. But i was interested in knowing what was going to happen.

Hopefully the second book's writing is better.

I really enjoyed this book! Anyone that knows me would say i love books were there is a weird/complicated love story. The story starts out with Nova and Taim becoming unlikely friends. Nova ends up living a hard life because of being exiled from her pack but not being able to leave the realm that she lives in because of the rules that she must follow. Maya Morrison does a great job in creating different realms, and people in them. If you like urban fantasy books, and coming of age (shifting age) than you will really like this book.

I personally can not wait to read the next book. I need the ARC book like now lol

I went into the first couple chapters almost uninterested but as the story went on everything became far more interesting. I was blown away by how different this shifter book is from others I have read. Some of the characters are introduced and mentioned here and there. The main characters are explained in pretty good detail. It took me a little bit to understand the different realms and how they worked. By the end of the book I wanted so much more, I didn't want it to end!!!

The author was particularly good at describing settings. I could almost always vividly picture the location that the characters were in during the story.

ARC from NetGalley

DNF @9%

I haven't even read 10% of this so I don't feel comfortable rating it, but jesus christ get an editor. I shall now paste in the comments I made as I updated my doneness level:
Oh look, it includes a playlist... Oh cool it has Justin Bieber on it; this bodes well. This is like giving a fucking mixtape to your crush. Wait, no, this is like when one of your friends forces you to listen to a song they are really digging and really tries to ensure that you GET the DEEP meaning. They accomplish this by loudly singing along and staring at you without blinking.

There was only so much ass-kicking one person could take before common sense finally got knocked onto them.

"Most fourteen-year-olds also are not learning combat training..." She trailed.

I wiped the trail of sweat from my forehead using the back of my hand, while pushing back the loose strands of hair.
I'm just trying to visualize this. Does she use the same hand? Important questions.

I shuffled on the ground as pain radiated through the back of my spine.
The back of the spine. Right.

Let the records show that everything about them is direfully catastrophic.
Is that a word? I honestly don't know. Direful is a word. At any rate, it sounds weird.

He smiled, his gaze lingering on me for a few minutes too long.
A few minutes too long? Even staring at someone for 60 seconds is weird. 180 seconds is like enough time to microwave a bag of popcorn.

Has an editor even been given the option to cast eyes on this shit?

As if his father staging a coup against mine and taking everything, we once loved with him, wasn't enough of a low blow.

We all attended the same kindergarten from a young age.
As opposed to the geriatric kindergarten..

The need to feel the pack, and the bond that ties us all was so heavy.

Even basic shit like quotation marks are off, and why are we using single quotes when we've been using double quotes previously? And why are some things in italics? It's just insulting. Even a beta reader could catch this shit.

We need to choose a tense and stick with it.

Can no one just say things? Must everything be mentioned, asked, snapped, commented, announced, exhaled, repeated, sighed, stated, shouted, yelled, instructed, cried out, trailed, muttered, whispered... ffs
Side note: At this point I skimmed forward a few pages trying to find "said." Instead, I found all of the above.

And this is where I finally literally said out loud to no one "I'm fucking done."
Cassian shouted, flinging large, rounded balls towards us.
Rounded fucking balls. As opposed to? SQUARED BALLS? I'm fucking done.

I want to reiterate the fact that this novel has a playlist. It also has a rendering of the MC at the beginning with the following quote underneath: "Your neighborhood Veronica Mars to the rescue. In my case, Veronica Bored." Should I be slapping my knee here? Is it meant to be amusing? I don't know, I'm old.

Oh, I see this book was edited... and also proofread...

I feel like I should start by saying I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. It has certainly been a long time since I read a good paranormal romance. One were the characters are interesting, believable and the storyline keeps me hooked. Often they fall flat but the synopsis of this book gave me hope and I am so glad I took a chance because Morrison has managed to convert me back to the genre!

The story follows Edith from when she was younger, meeting a boy called Tiam at a waterfall on the edge of the forbidden forest. They quickly became best friends and experienced a lot of their firsts together until fate intervened. Edith, wanting to keep Tiam safe from herself and her pack, rejected him but that was just the start of her problems.

Years pass and Edith continues to be ostracized and sick of dealing with the alpha’s in her hometown. Her plan? Escape. Only fate or life in general never goes easy for Edith. Hunted by her pack with girls disappearing Edith has to continue to run for her life and try and solve this mystery herself until she runs into Damen Elder. Heir to the largest shifter pack in the realms. As danger mounts and secrets begin to unravel Edith begins to realise that Damen’s fate and hers might be more interlinked than either could have ever imagined.

She Wolf’s protagonist, Edith, is a breath of fresh air. She is feisty, funny, strong and sassy. From the first few pages I knew I would love her. Despite what happens to her she rarely seems to become melodramatic or brooding, rather she goes out there and fights. Not only this but the other characters within the book are also fantastic – even the ‘bad guys’ have personality. Despite all that happens Edith wants to keep going, keep fighting and generally puts others first.

I also enjoyed the shifting POV’s of the book between Edith and Damen, although Edith was my favourite. I have already preordered the next two titles because the ending of this one is both amazing and so frustrating, in a very good way!

A definite must read for paranormal romance fans and fans of strong female leads who can rescue themselves but won’t exactly turn away help.

Very entertaining and hard to put down! I was really impressed with the worldbuilding and I kept wanting to find out what exactly what was going on with Edith's wolf, what happened to all of the missing girls, and whether Edith would discover Damon's true identity. Edith herself is a fun and feisty protagonist, always ready with a snarky remark in both her dialogue and inner monologues, even when her inability to stop herself from running her mouth gets her into trouble frequently. I also loved the way Morrison built up the romantic tension while also making excellent use of dramatic irony and the ending made my draw drop. The writing is a little repetitive and redundant in some places with some errors in chronology (Edith says in one she's known Tiam for three years even though they only met a year prior), though it's still very immersive, paying close attention to visual and auditory descriptions in the story but also olfactory ones, which makes sense when the characters are wolf shifters. I really enjoyed this book and I'm sure fans of Fallen Academy: Year One, The Metamorphosis of Twilight, and other indie paranormal novels with both adventure and romance will as well!

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with this ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

Romance 4.5/5
Protagonists 4/5
Plot 3.5/5
Side characters 3.5/5
World Building 2.5/5
Cliffhanger Ending alert

What I liked:

Edith was great, she didn't let her circumstances affect her disposition. She had a strong will and approach to life. Damien, is complicated, and I liked that. The character development was done well, Edith acknowledges her mistakes and Damien is stubborn, but towards the end was willing accept the suggestions of others and be more open-minded.

What I didn't like :

The story initially had a couple of chapters from different ages of the protagonists, but once or twice, it became a little confusing esp. since it had gone without a specific sequence. It had the special snowflake theme to it, but it merges well with the story. The dimensions were a little confusing, I didn't understand the travel powers or the world quite clearly, but that might be due to the fact I was reading this way past my bedtime.

.

But overall a good find, will definitely continue the series.

I will say that I liked the book at the start but as it went on it started to get weird. That’s not even to say how it goes from one time period to the next or the time skips. Like I said the story starts off okay but then it gets wonky. The girl tries hiding her wolf from her pack or something. Her mother gets killed and her dad ousted as alpha. She rejects him (ML) but he doesn’t know why and some other stuff happens. Like the guy gets sent somewhere but loses his wolves first, and now he’s mad at her.

Then afterwards the situation between ML and FL is not good and some of the misunderstandings can be cleared up if they sit down and talk but that would shorten the book down a whole lot. I mean there’s just so much going on I skipped some of it (dragons, witches, vampires, all in here) and was still able to keep up with the story. But the important stuff was skipped or overlooked, like why did some of this happen and the cause for it. Some of the things involved could have have been a side novel or something and shouldn’t have been put in here. It’s just filler and makes the book longer and more tedious than it needs to be. Too much explaining on unnecessary details that makes no sense and makes me not really care what happens in the end.

This is my first ARC read and review and what a way to start. Initially I was confused with the jumping of characters on the first couple of chapters with the ages jumping about but once I was into it then it made more sense and gave good background to the characters.
Firstly, I loved the characters, especially their names. I don’t think I have read a shifter book with the MC being named Edith. That might be an odd thing to say but for me the characters names are important in a story.
Secondly, I loved Edith. Such a strong woman even though she had gone through so much in her life. Her character arc was interesting to see and how she finally was able to connect to her wolf even though it was a separate entity. This was such a unexpected twist on the typical shifter stories that I have read in the past.
Thirdly, that little taster of spice from the library scene was 👌🏻 I can’t wait to see what happens in the next one. Definitely will be requesting that one.
Overall a great quick read for anyone who likes a good shifter book.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

*I received an ARC from NetGalley for this book.
I feel like this book had a good idea, but needed a bit more editing. It had a lot going on and would’ve benefited from it being split up into different books. I understand it’s a series, but it was just too much in a little bit of time. Also, there was a lot of telling instead of showing. A lot of things happened “off camera” and were later told to us. There was also a discrepancy with age. At one point it’s said that they’ve known each other for three years and she can’t believe it. The chapter said she was like fourteen, but they had met when she was thirteen or fourteen so that didn’t make any sense. There were some references towards today’s culture and that’s not necessarily bad, but if you don’t know the references, it could take you out of the book. It also dates the book. Overall, I liked the idea of the book, but the execution needed a little work. It is also definitely for a younger crowd, probably high schoolers, based on the language.

Ahhh Nova or Edith, life screwed you over there, and turned poor Tiam into a right arsehole. Its funny how people can take different paths in life from trauma. Nova survives, hardens and blooms like a weed. Tiam on the otherhand grows in power and becomes resentful of everything. So you can imagine how satisfying it is when you see things unfold in the story. I ended up feeling sorry for Nova and wanting to kick our male character right in the nuts. Yet he starts to see things for what they are and you can see this clearly as the POV changes part of the way into the POV of Damen.

Would you believe it this isnt the last of the story? 400 pages and it spills over into another novel. I have to wait for Nova to have that light bulb moment and I think I was a bit disappointed at that. The story doesnt even climax at that point which would have truly left me in a book hangover.

Another good solid read.

I was given this book by the author for the pleasure of reading and reviewing honestly.
