In this gripping Vampire Awakenings Series novella, David finally meets his match.
Freed from the chains and the vampires that once held her, Mia struggles every day to come to terms with her captivity and the aftermath of what she endured. Knowing that she can’t stand the touch of another, David will do whatever he can to help Mia while she tries to figure out who she is now, and how to handle the deepening bond between them. However, just when Mia starts to think that she may be able to find happiness again with David, a danger she never knew existed rises up and threatens to take it all away from her once more.
Due to language, violence, and sexual content this book is recommended for readers 18+

I am going to do a quick and dirty review on this one because I didn’t like it and I don’t actually read many books I don’t like. I listened to the Audiobook of this last night and though the narration was fine, I just didn’t like the characters.
The heroine was this weak woman that couldn’t stop whining through the entire thing and I just couldn’t find anything redeeming about her. It was over and over hearing her say things like, “he should be with someone who is whole not someone broken like me!”. By half way through I just wanted to smack her upside the head!
Well, this was more of a "skim" than a "read" but I'll count it anyway. I read half of it and skimmed the other half.
I put this book down earlier because it just wasn't holding my interest. The only conflict in the book was Mia's past and how it held her back from committing fully to David. Now, normally, that can still make an interesting book, but when it is mentioned numerous times within 5 or so pages, that the heroine was with many other men but none were like David, it just ruined it for me. Like, I get it. Her life was rough, and she slept with all those guys to make herself feel better, good for her, but for it to be repeated like 3 times in less than 10 pages, nope. It just annoyed me and made me lose a connection with the story.
I picked it back up again because I want to read the rest of the series and like to have a background on all of the books. I basically skimmed the rest and read bits and pieces about the couple's who have had their story and have more kids.
The conflict came at the very end, after she accepted David as her mate, when the guy who turned her into the vampires who sold her out for her blood, showed up again. The majority of the book was just her accepting David as her mate and healing from her ordeal. It just wasn't interesting enough for me.
If you absolutely have to read all books in a series, then read or skim this one, but if it doesn't bother you, then just skip this one. You won't miss anything.
The other books in this series have been enjoyable so this one was a real let down.
Oh and another pet peeve? Repeatedly saying the hero is drop dead gorgeous but having a terrible cover is something I find highly annoying.
Wow. This novella was powerful and touching. Mia’s rescue from captivity left so many scars. Struggling to learn how to exist in the real world again, the last thing she is ready for is love. The abuse she suffered resulted means being touched sends her into a panic.
The pull David feels for Mia makes not touching her one of the hardest things he’s ever done. His absolute love and determined patience slowly bring life back to the girl he knows is his destiny.
The shocking betrayal lurking in the shadows will bring Mia’s story full circle. You do NOT want to miss this novella!
One of the stooges finally found a mate. Finally!!!!
This one was too emotional for me. What the Fmc went through was kind of horrific.
I like this book but it was a little boring. However, when they introduced the full family, I loved it.I want to read a book of all the family in a nice sitting without life and death drama.
This book had me droppingly saying aw all the time. It was so sweet. And it couldn't have happened to a better stage. I can't wait to see what comes next. However I'm totally confused on the reader but I'm going to do my best.
Hmm... so, in comparison to Undone (VA #5) this one definitely pales. It's also much shorter, which is why the emotions and the progress of the story take much less time to unravel, which for me personally is always an issue. I am not a fan of Love at first sight (which wasn't what was displayed here) but if a romantic relationship progresses fast, this is kinda what it feels like.
Mia feels like her being is broken into a Million pieces. A couple of years ago her parents died in a cruel housefire. After living on the streets and fighting to survive for several years, she finally decides to take her life into a different direction and finds at least a bit of purpose, until it all is taken away from her again when she is kidnapped one night and thrown into the vampire trafficking scene. After three months of living in hell she is finally rescued, by David. She, however feels to damaged to be worthy of his kind affection, hating herself for not being able to let him touch her in his gentle and loving way.
David lays eyes on her and knows that she is to be his mate for the rest of their eternity. Where Mia sees damage and irreparable brokenness, he sees strength and resilience. Even though it is driving him mad bit by bit, he gives away his soul and expects nothing in return to make her feel comforted and safe. Having had his fare share of women ofer the centuries, he was okay with the idea to never meet his soulmate, but the game changed.
Together, they fight the demons of the past, unaware, that not all threats are of mental nature - physical danger is awating them.
I really liked the focus on David, there hasn't been much about the original 5 since the first book so it was nice to see the focus shift that way. It was also a really interesting dynamic with trauma/growth in Mia. Each book in this series is basically the same format, 2 people find themselves, attraction grows, and before long they are drawn irresistibly to be bonded for life, that being said, that format with her writing works and is steamy and enticing. However, I'm more impressed with the added factors in the different books that cause conflict and complications to that basic format. Like this one deals a lot with a girl with past trauma and her not being able to handle physical contact. Some of the previous ones centered around other obstacles, regardless it really adds conflict and depth to these books. This one was one of my favorites in the series but I would recommend them all.
Another amazing addition to an already amazing series. I've been looking forward to reading about about one of the "Stooges" getting hit with the mate gun ever since we were first introduced to them in the first book. David was my favorite of Liam's childhood friends that remained "ride or die" even after they were each turned by the same vampire. While helping Brian and Abby find and save Vicky from chains and a slow death in the previous book, David is brought face to face with his possible mate. Mia had been taken prisoner and chained to a wall in order for vampires to forcefully and viciously feed from her due to her purebred blood. After she is rescued by David along with several others, she can't tolerate anyone touching her. David is so patient with her. I loved seeing Mia very slowly come out of her shell. She had no family after losing her parents as a teenager. For seven years she has been on her own, so trying to trust David is a very difficult task. I really felt for them each in different ways. At times, I could feel their struggle within myself. The lengths David went to keep her comfort his number one concern were nothing short of amazing. There were some really passionate and romantic moments that I eagerly soaked up. I also loved experiencing moments with the Byrne family during Christmas. Moments that made me laugh out loud or swoon into a puddle on the floor. My smile is still present after finishing the last sentence. I can't wait for the next story.
So this is my 2nd time reading book 6 and I wasn’t overly thrilled about it the 1st time. Especially with having to follow up Abby and Brian’s story. But this time around I actually enjoyed it more. Could appreciate that this one was more of a love story because really all the action for David and Mia pretty much happened in book 5.
It just wasn’t necessary for their to be more than what was in this book. I loved reading about the struggles Mia was having with touch. And he slow walk back to allowing people to touch her. Mainly David. I really like that.
Davis was still playful and witty even if he couldn’t be as affectionate with Mia as he liked. And to watch the restraint that it took for David to resist his Impulse to claim and touch her made me have a new respect for David.
All in all I enjoyed this story more this time around than I did the first so I am glad I read it a second time.
Amazing! Mia and David are a fantastic couple and their story is phenomenal. I know that's a lot of praise but, it's all true. David has been my favorite since book one. Even through the books where he didn't play a big role he has remained my favorite character. Mia makes a perfect counter for him. Where she's weak, he's strong and vice versa. Mia is a woman who has dealt with way more than her share of heartbreaking circumstances. Meeting David is like a dream that's too good to be true. She feels connected to him but, is reluctant to follow the feelings to see where they might take her. David is amazed at Mia's strength and, even if it takes 100 years, he's ready to work for her trust and to one day bring a smile back to her face. This one is a keeper and a grand addition to one of my favorite series. I can't wait to read the next book.
Fractured was an okay read. I honestly expected more from David and Mia's story especially after reading and enjoying other books from this author. Don't get me wrong, I liked both David and Mia's characters but I really need more than just liking the characters in the story. David was so sweet and understanding when it came to his mate and Mia had to mentally deal with what was done to her. Some parts of the book were a bit repetitive and I found that the story flow was slower than I expected. I honestly thought that there would be a little more action in this book than there was. This wasn't a bad paranormal read, it just wasn't what I expected after reading other books from this author and loving them.
Finalllly we get to see a happily ever after for David!!! Whoot!
Mia, a purebred vampire who was rescued along with Victoria and many others, is still struggling to find her place in the world. After being kidnapped, tortured and abused by other sicko vampires she’s not sure how to adjust and be a normal for again.
Thanks to David and the family she has a good start. There is a bond the two share and David is willing to give her time to adjust. He’ll wait for her.
When trouble strikes it’s David that’s there to kick butt and take names. Their lives may be a little rocky but in the end love finds its way through.
I have enjoyed all previews books most of them, specially Bryan's book, I was expecting David's to be compelling but I found it lacking in some ways. Mia was at times a confusing character, the way she handle her parents dead was bizarre. The fact is, she is a pure blood and has the capacity to be strong and she must embrace it and fight for her freedom and love. David was always my favorite of The Stooges and I was glad he picture a grown man and not a caricature of one, loving, protecting, patience, sweet and funny. I will say it was a good read, not the best of the series but good all in all. Am really looking forward to Aiden's story.
Brenda K. Davies is a genius author who knows how to tell a story and keep readers on the edge of their seats. This book is the sixth in this series and tells David and Mia's story. A girl with a tragic past that has had to come back from the brink, meets a man who not only saved her but is now supportive in every way. Can these two make it work and figure out her demons or will he end up smothering her while trying to get her to let the past go? Find out in this intensely wonderful installment of Vampire Awakenings.
This book had a lot of twist and turns in it. I wasn't expecting David to find someone so sweet, wild, broken,...Just a few words to describe Mia. I think this story was a nice twist. To see Mia struggle was heartbreaking it was nice she had David to help her through it all. I was happy to see a grown up side of David. I know they have it in them but I think of the Stooges has a fun loving goofy sort of bunch. It was also nice to see all our favorite Vampires. I can't wait to see How the next story in this series goes.
Honestly, there was no story here and no action except for the last half hour of the audio version of the book.
I also couldn't really connect with the characters. David was nice...period. Mia was damaged from her parent's death something like 7 years ago. The kidnap and bloodrape was a problem, but the parent's death seemed to be more of an impact to her psyche.
Brenda is a good writer, but she doesn't do well with deeply emotional scenes which I think is what she was attempting to make this book about.
I really enjoyed this story... finally one of the stooges gets their butt kicked with Cupid. David feels the pull from the first time they meet but when they had met wasn’t a good one. He learns to be patient and falls hard. and Mia struggles from her past and especially from her imprisonment. She can’t leave the one person who seems to only give calmness and comfort but the struggle is too much. Mia eventually learns some truth from her past. I also enjoyed listening to the audio. Great performance. I definitely recommend them both and the entire series. Happy reading.
I have loved this series from the beginning. They have all been packed full of suspense and drama. This one was lacking that for me. I'm happy for David and I liked Mia, but the suspense wasn't there. We spent the book working through Mia's issues. I still love the series and I am looking forward to the spinoff series. I just hope we go back to more action in the future as this was my least favorite.
As always Brenda never ever fails to deliver, I've been wanting to read #6 from release day but have a huge pile of tbr books. Totally love David and Mia's story and thoroughly enjoyed catching up with everyone in the family, friends are the family we choose and most definitely proven in this series, love and courage always are needed. Again thank you Brenda for this amazing book to all who love vampire romance this is definitely a book and a series you will love through Id advise starting with book#1 especially as its a permanently free book in the Vampire Awakenings series x
David’s turn to fall. Mia has been dealt with so many hurts in her life. Losing her parents, scars from the fire, losing herself and then losing her body and blood. She’s damaged, afraid and doesn’t know if she will ever heal. David knee there was something about her from the moment she jumped into his arms. He needs to care for her, protect her, help her heal. A bond is there but she’s been damaged bad enough that it may never be able to be finished. Sweet and beautiful story.
I think this title has been the most mellow so far in the series, I enjoyed having a buffer story between all the vampire fighting and female endangerment. I thought it was really adorable and I think the development between Mia and David was well paced. My only issue with the book was that Mia's trauma was well built, but then kinda randomly set aside during the last couple of chapters. The love scenes went from baby steps to BAM she's all fixed, I think it would have been better for the book to end with her still healing but also still working through her issues with being touched.
**After reading the last couple of books I'm very excited to also read the spin off series with the vampire warriors from the compound.
Loved it! I'm glad that one of the stooges finally met his mate. I don't know that I've ever read a vampire book where the vampire had a phobia, but this was a great story line. David is strong willed, very understanding and has tons of patience. Mia has been scorned and tormented repeatedly. Their story is touching, no pun intended.
Liam's friend David finds his mate in an abused, untrusting pure breed vampire named Mia. Discover how she overcomes her heartbreak and fear from the unimaginable things done to her one day at a time with David's help in this heartfelt paranormal romance. An excellent 5 star read.
I don't know quite what it was with this one but it failed to grab me in the same way as the rest of the series. It was still enjoyable but a tad lacklustre in comparison. I think it's because David hadn't really been explored in any depth in the previous books, so I didn't feel as invested in him. Never mind, on to the next!
Yes one of the Stooges get taken down! FINALLY!! I've been waiting for this from the very beginning lol It was so cute.. David and Mia's story was short and sweet and I'm glad I got to read it.. Mia getting to meet the "FAMILY" was EVERYTHING and I wish we got more of that.. with all that being said I'm looking forward to reading more!
Love reading about David and Mia story. Really like how Davies incorporates other characters from the other books and we see the interaction on a totally different level. Can't wait to see more.
