A bucket list with an approaching deadline, a road trip across the country, and a massive crush on her best friend... April Reed's summer is turning into quite a mess. Nineteen-year-old April has just gotten home from college when she finds a list she wrote years ago of things she wanted to do before she turns twenty. With her birthday coming up later that summer, the clock is ticking on finishing everything on the list. Skinny dipping? Camp in Algonquin? Fall in love? How can she manage all that in time? When April's best friends suggest they go on a road trip to complete all the tasks on the list, it seems like the perfect solution. There's only one one of those friends is Bree, a girl that April is quickly developing a hopeless crush on. Not wanting to ruin their friendship, April vows to keep her feelings to herself - but that isn't so easy when she's around Bree so much. As the trip goes on, and the two girls get pushed together more and more, April can't help but wonder if going from friends to lovers would be as bad as she once thought. Filled with hilarious banter and hijinks, this sapphic romance is sure to put a smile on your face.

I’m selective about the YA novels I read these days because they don’t interest me as much as adult novels do, so I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
What struck me most was how diversified this sapphic friend group is. Although the blurb doesn’t give this away, April is a lesbian and Bree is a trans-woman, a pairing I've never read before. And the three other friends are lesbian, bisexual and pansexual and two out of the three are also demisexual and grey sexual. It's inclusive and I like that.
The story centres around April who crushes on her friend, Bree while on a three-week road trip with the friend group to fulfil a bucket list and I like that it's a sufficiently light read. Although I still can't wrap my head around how suddenly April starts developing romantic feelings for Bree, I enjoyed watching the crush play out - how April reacts to the little things that Bree does or how she tries to resist her feelings but finds herself slipping. It’s incredibly sweet and innocent and it makes me want to root for April and Bree. In the midst of her growing crush, April is also convinced they would never work out and though I want to say the reasons are contrived, I have had real people say the same to me, so I guess the reasons are realistic.
I like how supportive the friend group is but at the same time, how non-intrusive they are about April's crush. They are a pleasant group and it's great because I'm looking forward to the sequel.
I enjoyed this debut.

April has just returned home after her first year away at college. As she is cleaning her room she finds a bucket list of 20 things to do before 20 that she wrote down when she was younger.
After a meeting with her friends, in which the list turns out to be a subject of conversation, they all decide that they will help April accomplish all the remaining items by the end of the summer, when April reaches her 20s. Thus, they end up on a road trip all together. A trip with your best friends seems like a great idea, but when April starts to have a crush on Bree, spending a great deal of time around her becomes cpmplicated, especially since April knows how badly things can end when you decide to date someone in your friend group.
Will April be able to ignore her growing feelings for Bree and continue to just be her friend, or will she let herself go, especially when she realizes that maybe the feeling is mutual?
This book was pretty quick to read and the romance was very cute.
I loved the summer vibe and the friendship atmosphere.
The group of friends of the main character (April) is fantastic. Not to mention the representation. Everyone in the group belongs to the LGBTQ+ community: April is a lesbian, Bree (the main character's romantic interest) is a lesbian and is trans, Harlee is also a lesbian, Kiara is bisexual and grey-assexual, and Elyssa is pansexual and demi-girl.
They are all very different, which makes the interactions between them very entertaining.
I really loved the idea of going on a road trip, it is something I want to do someday with my group of friends as well.
April was very relatable. It was very funny and sometimes embarrassing to see the way she acted with Bree.
It has a very satisfying scene in which it is revealed to the reader in which way each of the characters identify as, which filled my heart, to see the way they all felt represented.
Overall it was a very enjoyable and attention grabbing read.
I think the reason I didn't give it a higher rating was that the ending was a bit rushed.
Interested in reading future releases by the author.

In 𝘚𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘚𝘶𝘯 we follow our April who's crushing on Bree, one of her closest friends, while on a road trip. While in high school she wrote a bucket list of 20 things she wanted to accomplish by her 20th birthday. Seeing as one of them were to go on a road trip, she gathers her friends for one.
The highlight for me was definitely the friend group. It's rare to see a fully lgbt+ cast in books so this was a pleasant surprise. It was a very diverse cast sexuality wise.
The romance was also pretty enjoyable and seeing how the crush played out was very sweet. You'll probably find yourself rooting for then throughout the book.
My only complaint is that the pacing could've been dealt with a lot better. First, the crush is very sudden and probably could've been more enjoyable if it was a bit slower. Second the ending felt very rushed.
I definitely recommend this if you like short summer reads, road trips, bucket lists, or fun queer casts!

rep: lesbian MC, trans female/lesbian love interest, bisexual, greysexual, pansexual, and demi-girl (rest are supporting characters).
Isabel Hansen has delivered a fantastic New Adult story with Scarlet Sun. This friends to lovers road trip romance is sweet and funny. The characters are delightful and I loved all the hijinks as April and her friends try to complete her teenage bucket list before she turns 20, all while trying to fight her developing feelings for her friend Bree.
The story is absolutely adorable. Five university friends crossing Canada together, full of bonding, shenanigans, and even romance. While mostly lighthearted there were a few heavier parts that really rounded out and enriched the story.
This cast of queer characters is super fun. Each of these five girls adds something all their own to the story. I loved getting to know them and how they interacted with each other. Kiara, Harlee, and Elyssa are wonderful characters and friends. April is sweet but surly, she spends most of the story trying to fight her growing feelings for adorable Bree. Bree is an absolute cinnamon roll.
Hansen Delivered tons of queer rep in a casual way that was very satisfying. Trans, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, Grey Ace. All of the different characters just are what they are. Their queerness is a part of who they are but not the entirety of their personalities just like in real life. It felt very natural.
The romance between April and Bree is super sweet. The way their friendship blossomed into something more was gradual and very cute. I loved rooting for these two cuties through all the miscommunications, adorable awkwardness, past hurt, and heartwarming attraction.
This story is super sweet and super fun. A heartwarming coming of age, friends to lovers romance. Sure to take you are an emotional rollercoaster.

Wow, I just finished and just have such a light, fluffy feeling in my heart. Like I'm just really proud of the characters and am looking forward to getting more of this friend group. I'm so thankful that I was able to get an ARC because I was just super excited to read it.
This story was about 4 (later 5) best friends going on a road trip and just having such a great time vibing through southern Canada. But our MC is falling for her friend and just trying to deny it as much as she can, even to herself.
There's a bucket list, there's a road trip, there are wonderful friendships. It's amazing. What else do you need?
It's also an own voices lesbian story which we love to see!!!!!
She's planning a series so each book is going to be about a different girl from the friend group and I already cannot wait to get my hands on the next one!!
An ARC copy was given to me from BookSirens for a honest review.
This was my first book from the author and I must confess I didn´t contect with the main characters as I like to. The story about April is quite fun to read, but I feel the ending was rushed and the relationship not so deep as I would like it, but it was ok and some of the parts of the story are really fun to read.
4.7 stars The most wonderful thing about this book is the diverse representation of genders and sexualities. One of the main characters is a trans woman and others are said to be demigirl and grey-asexual, which is pretty rare in fiction, but it's not a big deal - just another part of who they are. It's amazing.
The story itself is wonderfully written, not so predictable or too cliché. The characters are very human and funny. I would give it 5 stars but it was too simple to call it amazing. Which is the reason I loved it so much, ironically.
Basically it's a simple, YA love story with great representation of trans and sapphic women, who are extremely likable and very human.
I absolutely love when I'm reading a book and think "This would make a great series" and then it turns out to be the first in the series. Epic road trip with friends in order to complete a 20 goals by 20 list.
Jae's SRC only one-bed friends-to-lovers romance road trip set in a country you don't live (Canada) part of a series new to you author forced proximity
A sweet, romantic & short novel that follows a group of girls fulfilling a list of '20 things to do before 20' that ultimately leads two of the characters finding true love. The author has been able to craft a story with believable characters, situations, and ultimately, make the reader feel engaged through her writing. It is suitable for young adult and reminds the reader that following your dreams can often lead you to unexpected places and relationships you never expected. Overall, a good read with good writing and I recommend for someone who just wants to escape into a romance with adventure along the way.
This is such a fun and sweet book!!! Even more than the romance itself, the friendship between the five characters was just excellent, you got to explore the different dynamics - how April gets on with each of them!!!! The backstory between the girls is so well built, you fall into the summer in this book, but you get a feeling of everything they have shared during the school year!! Bree and April are also really good - I LIKE the slow build of their romance, this uncertainty between them and wanting to do things right!!! And I also really LOVE that the uncertainty was never about the both being girls, but about their friendship and not wanting to risk it. Truly everyone in this book is delightfully queer!!! Finally the gimmick of a "bucket list" they have to answer to, this set of tasks to get done, is always just so much fun!!! And it's also great that it's not like that she has to do every task, since she wrote it and coming to turn 20 (the bucket list is "20 things to do before 20"), she got things done, which makes everything feel more organic It's just a really good story - it's fun and sweet, and I really love how it sets these characters!!! Definitely a recommendation!!!

I would do anything as long as you're there with me.
2.5 stars. This was cute but I cannot tell a lie...! It bored me. Friends to lovers is one of my favourite tropes, and the last few times I read a road trip romance I absolutely loved it, so I'm not sure why this didn't particularly tickle my fancy. I mean, it was extremely new adult-y, which, meh. And as cute as it was, I didn't really feel that much chemistry between our main characters. I think one of the problems for me is that they went on this road trip with their entire friend group, and I don't think the main characters had enough time together. If April and Bree had been on their own, it would have felt more urgent, more claustrophobic, in a good way. Not that I didn't enjoy the other friends and what they brought to the book; they were all cute and some of the banter made me chuckle. But the main characters needed more time alone. And the third act conflict was absolutely bog-standard; I really had to roll my eyes.
Listened to the audiobook as read by Su Hendrickson, which I really enjoyed. I'm always pleased to see more sapphic books with trans characters, and this was definitely really nice? But just that: nice.
Scarlet Sun is the story of 5 best friends who go on a road trip in efforts to help April finish a things to do before age list that she started years ago. The girls travel across Canada, checking items off the list. While on the road, April battles to not check off one item: fall in love, real love, especially since she has a crush on one of her best friends.

I absolutely loved this book! The perfect summer read and for anyone who loves the friends to lovers trope! This was a fun and short story, easy to read- it took me only a day to read it! The characters are very likable and portray perfectly a group of friends who want to have a summer adventure. I especially loved the representation amongst the group and how that wasn’t the focus of the story.

Scarlet Sun tells the story of a group of friends going on a road trip together during their summer break and the developing feeling that the main character April has towards one of her best friends. There is a lot of will they won’t they but it never gets tedious while reading. It’s probably because the book itself is pretty short and it doesn’t let itself be bogged down too much at any given time. I really like that the characters are really fleshed out and are really believable most of the time. They speak as if they’ve known each other forever and it lends to the believability of the blossoming relationship. I really also like how the author handles Bree and the way that her friends treat her is a breath of fresh air. If you don’t mind a few brief cringe moments I really recommend this book. Give it a shot. It’s a short sweet story.
April and Bree and their friends find adventure with April's to do list before turning 20. The adventure was funny and had many trials and tribulations. The girls were on summer break from college and were close knit. I found the emotion very good and there were many spots that better communication would have been well served. I wish to book was longer and the end was a let down. I recommend this book for adventure and romance readers.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really liked the story of this book - 5 girls going on a road trip in order to fulfil a bucket list. Since it's a very short book, everything felt a little rushed. I would have loved longer chapters with more detailed descriptions/activites. Nevertheless, it was a nice read!

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via Voracious Readers Only. While this novel is a little different than what I usually read I enjoyed the story line and the Characters. The twists and turns in April and Bree's relationship alternately had me cheering for them and burying my face in my hands because of their missteps.
Thank you to BookSirens and the publisher for giving me a free copy to review. I liked this for the most part but the romance could have been flushed out more I think. I understand this was the authors first work so I will rate it 3.5 stars and will definitely give here next book a look.
I received a copy of this book from vivacious reads from the author
This is a lovely book about friendship and love. I enjoyed reading it but felt like it could of been longer, still I hope too read more from the author soon.
This was an good young adult book about falling for your best friend but feeling like it's not right because they're your friend. You can't fall in love with your best friend - or can you? A road trip brings April and Bree together but is it really what they want? Or will it ruin a beautiful friendship. Good book, I did enjoy reading it.
The characters in Isabel’s debut novel are all down to earth young women, friends from school, who go on a road trip together. How do you travel in a car with each other and hide your feelings for someone in a confined space like that? April, Bree, Harley, Kiara and Elyssa strike out to fulfill April’s bucket list wishes. Little did they know the trip would end in a love story.
This story is an easy read, I finished it in a few hours. I enjoyed traveling with the girls across Canada and reading about their adventures along the way. The characters are developed well and each have distinct personalities. The different letters of the LGBTQ alphabet soup are represented in this story, too!
Some missed catches in the editing process weren’t too distracting, but I did give 4 stars instead of 5 for that reason. Overall, I enjoyed this first work of Isabel’s. I will watch for more stories by this author. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was happy to receive an ARC for this story. When I read the blurb I was immediately intrigued. I really liked the idea of the story and dove right in. I loved the characters and the diversity, the entire story. You get the lovely struggle of having friends fall in love with each other and facing their fears. All of that wrapped up in a nice storyline of bucket list and road trip. It was a really fun and feel-good read, it just had those little moment in which I would've wished to see more "struggle" rather than flipping a switch and resolving the issue with a couple of words, but that might just be me :D
I really enjoyed this book. It was light and fun. I gave it 4 stars for the spelling and grammar errors, wasn't too bad, but it was noticable. I wanted to give it a full 5 stars for a trans character alone. I was so happy to see that, and not make it all about her being trans. It was mentioned a couple of time, it fit the story, it was perfect. I definitely recommend this book.
This is a lovely book about April, who wants to fulfil her bucket list before she turns 20. She goes on a road trip with her friends and falls in love. Well written, with good dialogue and an interesting storyline. Really enjoyed it.
