Deputy sheriff Jacquelyn Lewis longs to enforce the law.
Veterinarian Hunter Cooper yearns to heal the helpless.
They barely begin their careers before she’s fired and he kills his first patient.
If they help each other to heal, might they find their way to true happiness?
Hunter Cooper was made to be a veterinarian, to heal animals of every kind, far and wide. But when his first patient dies—by his hand—his confidence shatters and his dream dies. What else can he do but go home to lick his wounds, help his brothers run the Bar-6, and ignore Crook County’s urgent need for a second veterinarian. Yet, no sooner does he arrive than the local vet gets seriously injured. Hunter must step up. But how?
Jacquelyn Lewis trained hard to become a deputy sheriff. An unlikely candidate in a man’s world, she earned her badge because she is pragmatic, intelligent, and a gifted student of human behavior. But when a routine call escalates and a bystander gets shot, her boss jumps at the chance to fire her. The only place she can go is Sundance, Wyoming, and her sheriff father, who is the only one who’ll hire her.
When the sheriff tasks Jackie to assist Dr. Cooper in his new role as the county veterinarian, she is angry. But soon the two find a rhythm that has nothing to do with work. As their interest in each other grows, a stampede of adversity clobbers their budding relationship. Overwhelmed by a cattle disease outbreak, the arrival of Jackie’s ex-boyfriend, and a cruel new twist to the sabotage at the Bar-6, will Hunter and Jackie face the challenges together…or apart?
Janith Hooper lives with her husband in Oakdale, California—Cowboy Capital of the World. She has four grown sons, Matthew, Nathan, Paul, and Benjamin; three daughters- in-love, April, Marisa, and Brooke; and six grandchildren, Abbie, Maddie, Wyatt, Avalon, Elliott, and Brylee. So far.
In this book, both of the main characters experience career and personal lows, self-discovery, healing and redemption. They also find love and a renewed faith in God’s guidance. After a less than auspicious first meeting, Jac (Jacquelyn) and Hunter can’t get away from each other for long. Fate seems to enjoy throwing them together, no matter how much they would like to avoid each other. They have more in common than one would think after both suffering large setbacks in their chosen careers due to accidental actions or mishaps. Their confidence in their abilities, choices and their futures is definitely shaken and on very wobbly foundations. Also, they are both at odds with members of their family which makes their return home even more of a trial. Jac’s position as a Sheriff’s Deputy is also a source of irritation for many (this book is set in the early 1960’s) and causes her some trouble. At first, they rile each other up and anger and resentment are part of every interaction, even while she is investing incidents of sabotage against his family’s ranch. But that soon changes as they work together when Hunter is forced to take over for the town’s injured vet and he makes sure that Jac gets roped in as his assistant. Close proximity let’s them get to know each other a little better and they both start to see the other in a different light. The attraction they have been feeling from the start begins to change to something more. Their path forward isn’t an easy one, filled with several unexpected twists and turns that challenge them both. Read this well-written and fascinating book to find out how their story progresses.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
A Great Relaxing Read Expect to be entertained as you enter the Cooper family saga once again. Author Janith Hooper does not disappoint. The strong, handsome yet multi-faceted Hunter is the star of this show. I love that he is not all grit and steel but has insecurities to face, room to grow, and the reader can see his humanity depicted in a way true to life. Jackie, the spicy, spunky female deputy in a world dominated by men has you rooting for her from the moment she splashes onto the scene. She is smart, talented, and her beauty flows not just from attractive woman she is but from the inside as well. This book draws the reader into a love that goes far deeper than surface attraction. It wonderfully portrays a man and woman falling in love but also encompasses the healing love of God tying the story together in a beautiful bow.
Where can you find sweet romance, continued “Who done it?” mystery, and tender animal compassion? In a small-town veterinary hospital and a ranch with handsome cowboys wearing hats, boots, and buckles! Janith Hooper’s Let Yourself Heal Once Again provided a super pleasurable easy read that made me grin, tense up, laugh, and cry. A competent female deputy and a handsome new veterinarian/cowboy experienced genuine emotional turmoil as they each overcame huge professional mistakes with the help of each other as well as the Lord. Hooper demonstrated realistic drama at its best! Thank you, Janith, for using your incredible talent for those of us who love to read!!
Another captivating love story by Janith Hooper! This tired mom of 3 littles couldn't put the book down (late nights leading to early mornings with coffee lol). I love how this book not only captures the growth of new love between two people but also entwines God's ability to heal broken hearts. It's mesmerizing to read how God works between these two characters not only to bring them together, but also uses each of them and their gifts to heal their broken hearts. Thank you Janith for sharing your gift of writing, and giving this tired mom a moment of "me" time to escape into a wonderful Christian love story displaying God's love and ability to heal all wounds.
What a wonderful addition to the Breath Without Life series. Forgiveness and confidence in each of their abilities does not come easy to Hunter and Jac (Jacqueline). We watch their struggles and how they overcame their fears and feelings of self-doubt by seeking God’s guidance and strength in each of the battles they go through. Their romance was believable with perfect timing. It was also great to catch-up with other members of the Cooper family. Stormy was a perfect four-legged addition to the story. This is a terrific read and I cannot recommend it enough.
I received a complimentary copy, and this is my honest review.
Just like all her other books, this is a wonderful story that has you living with the characters. Janith Hooper spins her magic in such a way as to have you reading until the end...whether it is 3am or 3pm! Believable characters and storyline made this book another favorite...that can change depending which of her books I’ve just read or re-read! I Highly Recommend all of Janith Hooper’s books and this is no exception! Don’t miss it!
Let Yourself Heal Once Again- This novel is the fourth in a series about the Cooper family- patriarch Cord and six sons. This story can be read as a stand alone but it so much better if the series is read in order. The author wrote a very engaging and inspirational romance that centers on two individuals who pursue their careers with a passion but are sidetracked when tragedy strikes and they lose confidence. I throughly enjoyed the author’s writing style and how she highlighted the importance of prayer in the character’s lives. The author presents flawed but lovable characters and her details of ranch living was very informative and gave me a new found respect for veterinarians and ranchers. Well done and a must read.
Can two broken people heal each other. As this book shows, they can with God's help. This book goes over a story of two people that had different hurts. One was from himself, the other had to do with both of them. They had to work together later on. Will they work together, or will they tear each other apart? Read and find out how it goes. I received an ARC copy for my honest opinion.

An exceptional read! Janith Hooper has delivered again. LYHOA includes just enough mystery to keep things interesting and the romance is realistic and sweet with getting sappy. I definitely recommend this book and the entire series.
Let Yourself Heal Once Again is a wonderful and exciting story. Another captivating love story by Janith Hooper! I love Hunter Cooper in this book, I have laughed, set on the edge of the seat and in the end was so very pleased with everything this book had in it. Janith Hooper is able to pulled you into her books, make you fill as you are walking every step with the characters. This book is wonderful, so very well written, with wonderful characters, lots of plots, suspense and faith.
I loved this book just as I have loved all of Janith Hooper books. I'm looking forward to the other brothers and their stories. Keep up all the great work Janith.
I have always loved Janith Hooper's books and this didn't disappoint. I loved the plot as well as Hunter's interaction and love for animals. Jackie was a good fit for Hunter as well. This book was touching and beautifully written. There is a lot to learn from the both characters and how each of them overcame challenges personally, together and with God by their side. The suspense was carrying all the way. It is definitely a must-read.
I have loved this series from the start and this story does not disappoint. Fun, intense, emotional and romantic. The characters are engaging and relatable. I literally cried when the battle over crippling fear is won. Love the role faith plays.
I could hardly wait for this book to come out to hear about Hunter, one of the brothers in this Cooper Family of cowboys who was beginning his life as a vet. I was not disappointed! The tension but yet attraction between Hunter & Jacki, the new Deputy Sheriff was so special. The descriptions of the scenes & interactions with the characters gave me the feeling that I was standing on the outside looking in. I love it when I can put myself in a book and I can easily do this with Janith’s books. I love the weaving of Christian values into the narrative with biblical references showing the power of prayer. I now will go back and reread her books while waiting for her next one. Love her books. They never disappoint! Great love story!
They both made life-changing mistakes. Can they overcome them? Jac and Hunter both have family and life adversities they are battling daily and trying to overcome. Jac is fighting to gain respect as a female deputy sheriff. Hunter is striving to get established and to gain confidence as a veterinarian. They need to learn to rely on God to help them through it all. The chase is on to find out who is trying to sabotage the ranch before it’s too late. This is a full novel. It is a Christian romance with a bit of mystery set in It takes place on a ranch run by brothers. Each brother, as well as the father, has his own story. We still don’t find out who has it in for the Cooper family by the end of this story, so readers need to continue to be patient to discover who is behind the evil deeds. The books can be read out of order but are best experienced in chronology to fully benefit. I look forward to reading the conclusion and finding out the motives behind these heinous acts. The author writes well and her characters are well developed.
-‘It was hard enough being a female deputy. Now, she’d have to be a female vet assistant, which she knew exactly zero about. Was there no end to her fight to succeed in a man’s world?-‘
-‘Now that he had his head out of school books, it was time he learn how he ticked, and how to relate to more than just animals. He needed to join the human race, and what better way than through one strong-minded, no-holds-barred career woman.’-
A great quick read, but not my favorite of the series thus far ( I will admit I’ve been in a funk lately and that may have played a role in my inability to really submerse myself in the story). At times the book felt a little repetitive and drawn out instead of moving the story along. I felt like there were a few missed opportunities to add in some plot twists that would have made the book a little less predictable. The ending was also a little lackluster, and I fear these Jac and Hunter will play a bigger portion in the coming books because this book really advances the plot line of the saboteur to the 6-Bar ranch. But then it all just comes to a complete halt, so these two may end up eating into the following brothers’ books unless the author increases the general size of the novels.
I was disappointed in the ending. While I liked that Hunter and his Cookie ended up happily together, I thought the conflict with David was a little forced and contrived. Not the fact that he was one of the cattle rustlers, but that this intuitive and smart woman misunderstood Hunter's 'letting her go' to figure out if she really loved David. It annoyed me to no end that she was written so dense in this situation. Plus, the thread of the escaped Mr. Peterson was dropped. I figure this will play out in the next book in the series, but it's disappointing that it was basically ignored by the two of them-and Sheriff Harvey. It's a bit frustrating to have them be so competent throughout the book and then so incompetent at the end.

Been following this Cooper family of men for awhile now and each book gets better and more emotional for me. Had to grab the tissues in this one as they were praying a lot, but when Hunter needed strength and took it too the Lord, it was the best part of the book for me! Such an inspirational story, just loved it. Looking forward to the next one. Thank you Janith.
This series has been a good one so far. I loved the obstacles the MCs had to overcome. The strong faith of the heroine was inspiring. The pacing of the plot was excellent. And the way the characters lived and interacted just seemed so believable to me. I just didn’t want to put the book down. If you’re looking for a clean, inspirational romance with a dash of suspense and a whole lot of grit, this one might be just the thing.
In order for healing to begin, one must face his or her fears and conquer them. The facing is the step of faith. The conquering? That is God's part and He does it well. We can learn a lot from Hunter and Jac. This book is action-packed and has a powerful message. well done!
A well written book full of action and love and the guidance of God. So good to read a heart-felt story, totally feasable. (Sp) I would just have appreciated a bit more of any action against the Paterson's planned take over of Hunter's farm. Perhaps it will come in the next book?
Once again, Janith has penned a delightful, well researched, fun story of cowboy life and trusting God. Hunter is one of my favorite characters and I loved all the veterinary details. I can’t want for Bronc and Brand to find themselves and love in the next book.
