Book 3 in The Augmented Space Opera Series from #1 Amazon Bestseller, Ben Hale.
As an avid snowboarder from Utah, Ben grew up with a passion for learning. This thirst for knowledge led him to sports, music, and academic endeavors. After a year of college, he did volunteer work in Brazil and became fluent in three languages. Graduating from the University of Central Florida, he started and ran several successful businesses before publishing his first novel in June of 2012. By the end of the year he'd sold almost ten thousand copies of The Second Draeken War, and he began writing full-time. Now spanning 10,000 years, ten titles, and two series, The Chronicles of Lumineia represents a sprawling YA series that has sold over fifty thousand copies, and continues to expand its readership across all ages. Editing is terrible… like the author even forgets about continuity….
At one point a character dies. In the next paragraph they moan and are given four minutes to live.
Later on a ship is described as being so huge…. A mile long. It completely dwarfs the four kilometre long ship beside it. Well… seeing as five kilometres is about three miles…. That’s not a thing. Lol.
But, I can’t put this book down the story is incredible despite the terrible lack of continuity editing. I can’t wait to read more!!
What a terrific 3rd book. BUT soooo many questions left unanswered. I mean, Siena told Mora it would be "many" years before they were rescued. Really? And what's going to happen to Lumineia and all the Augments? Ero's father and brother are so mean and vicious. Is this the last book? If it is this author sucks! Because on the front page of the book on my iPad it says "THE AUGMENTED: THE COMPLETE SERIES, 2021-2022. That sounds like the end to me AND it was published 7/27/21. So he's had plenty of time to write another book about the Augments. I think he's done and so HE SUCKS.
No romance and absolutely swearing.
As for the narration: Eric Michael Summerer, Jay Snyder and Reba Buhr were all wonderful.
First, the not so good. This book needed another pass from an editor to close up some plot holes and some things that were just plain wrong. It did pull me out of the story as I tried to figure out what was going on.
That said, this kept me invested in the story. I loved the interactions and the character growth. The world building was well done. Even though plenty was left without much in the way of explanation of description, that was better than bogging everything down with unnecessary details.
This, like all of this series had wonderful insights on the future we see of Lumineia, while leaving plenty to be seen in the next series. The writing is fantastic, making you hang onto each word, only giving you a peek at the happenings elsewhere when the time is right, allowing pressure to build, which is so fitting.
Every thing was big, the plot, the fighting, the deaths except the ending. I understand that like this you open the possibility for other series and still, I dislike the cliffhanger. Some characters arcs were great some not so much. The book opened so many possibilities but in this regard it lacked, because it just scratch some issues. Still the three books were fun, and I enjoyed reading again.
Galaxy of Titans has even more surprises then the first book in the series and a lot more excitement. Seine's team is even larger in this second volume and even more diverse and powerful than it was in the first volume. I can hardly wait for the next installment to appear.
Actual rating 4 1/2 stars. But I am literally OVERJOYED!! that this chapter FINALLY included good editing (not perfect* but still) to go along with what has been an absolutely fantastic story-line! Kudos to the entire team for this one! It's what this fantastically imagined Universe deserved and needed! And a perfect way to end my Augment-a-thon that began with a re-read of Book 1, my first read of Book 2 and finally this well-presented final chapter of what appears to be an initial trilogy!
I've been saying it from the first book on, but the strength of this extremely entertaining space opera has been the complex political, scientific and personal levels across a galaxy and for all of the species involved! And this third chapter in the Augmented series was certainly no different as it is jam-packed with excitement, surprises galore and twists that no one could have ever seen coming! I really enjoyed the heck out of this one! The characterizations are great, the growth of these players was great and even the new good and/or bad guys (who knows yet?) was great! Plus, there are a few individual scenes as well that will be put in my Pantheon of "all-time greatest ever's" in their own special categories! Just awesome!
And even though the tale is a LOOOOONG way from being done, I think Hale also did a masterful job of getting us to a good if not stopping point then let's call it a transitional point. I wasn't frustrated by the ending at all because I felt like we had gotten as far as we could at this stage - save for maybe some explanations about certain planet killing devices or what the heck is going to happen to a race of sentient dragons on a planet called Earth. But I am glad that we are at a point now where we can put the books down, take a deep breath aned wait for the next trilogy to hit during 2022. And when those hit the airwaves, I'm also glad that I'll be more than willing to give at very least this third chapter a re-read! Let me put it this way: this is what I WISH John Scalzi's "The Interdependency" series had given us but really I don't think it came anywhere close to Hale's work (I thought Scalzi mailed it in but that's a topic for another day... or the review I left back then)!
There's not a lot more I can add without putting in a few spoilers and that would not be cool, not for those of you that haven't read this yet. All I can say is: be prepared for a wild ride, 2 initial books full of far too many editing errors and a third book that does its damndest to make up for all that! But do read these books because the ride is just getting started! Enjoy!
*Like I said the editing was SOOOO much better in this third chapter though it did tend to wobble a bit towards the end. Just a few too many cases of people threatening to do away with, well, themselves! Watch the names folks, it counts! e.g. "Skorn was still calculating. “Of course they do, and their own curiosity will fuel higher prices when we take our new product to market. But if we don’t figure out what Skorn is up to, we might not have a product to sell.”" See? Even Skorn thinks he's a bastard...
Good golly i love the way Ben brings threads from all his different books together. He is a master and I can only be in awe of his mind. I am so looking forward to the next series!
