With all hopes of developing a defense against the Sa’Nerran neural weapon gone, Captain Lucas Sterling and the beleaguered crew of the Invictus execute a desperate contingency plan. The warmongering aliens stand ready to attack and destroy earth – Sterling intends to give them a taste of their own medicine. An eye for an eye. A planet for a planet. Powering through the Void in search of a powerful Dreadnaught-class warship thought lost two years earlier, Sterling intends to re-capture the four-kilometer-long vessel and use it to attack the Sa’Nerran homeworld itself. Unfortunately, a Sa’Nerran ship packed with warriors is hot on their heels. In order to secure the mighty dreadnaught and prevent it from falling into enemy hands, Sterling must again take his ship and crew into battle. But there aren’t many of them left. Outnumbered, Sterling must rely on the Obsidian Soldiers – neurotic AI combat robots - for support. But he still doesn’t know if the machines can be trusted. At the eleventh hour, an unexpected ally comes to Sterling’s aid. But will it be enough to defeat the Sa’Nerran and secure the Fleet Dreadnaught? As always, Sterling will be called upon to make hard decisions. Decisions that will cost lives. The Dreadnaught is now their only hope of mounting a fightback. Without it the war – and the Omega Taskforce – is doomed.

The battle for humanity takes a turn for the better and worse in this fifth novel by GJ Ogden. Will there be enough of humanity left to win against the Sa'nerra👹?

Captain Lucas Sterling commanding Fleet Marauder Invictus with First Officer Commander Mercedes Banks is making full speed to the Fleet Dreadnaught Vanguard, lying dead in space where its former Captain had successfully defended the Dreadnaught against an overwhelming force of Sa'Nerrans by opening all the hatches and air locks to space, blowing the Sa'Nerran invaders, her crew and herself to the cold depths of space. The Invictus is racing Emissary Lana McQueen and the Sa'Nerrans to capture the empty vessel. Also aboard the Invictus is a unit of Obsidian Soldiers - robot warriors that Admiral Natasha Griffin had hidden away against some future need. That time is now!
Meanwhile, the AI aboard the Invictus had become self aware and was busy upgrading systems and adjusting to its new status, even accepting a name and rank as Ensign One! Missing crew slots were filled with upgraded Obsidian Soldiers. The Invictus is ready for a fight and they're going to get one as they reach the Dreadnaught at nearly the same time as McQueen and her Sa'Nerran crew. The battle is on, fighting deck to deck to control the behemoth warship!
Great characters, amazing storyline and first class storytelling bring the action to you. This is a great read!
Unable to stop the aliens, our hero figures to give them a taste of their own medicine. Unfortunately, they don't care for the flavor, so our hero is going to have to get creative to make his plan work.
This is book five of the series, but it works pretty well as a standalone. You will be missing some of the background that led up to this point, but you can figure out the basic elements pretty quickly. That being said, we are nearing the end of the series, so starting at the beginning might be a better plan.
This is an intense, fast paced military SF story. The story is very well written, with a lot of depth to both the setting and the characters. The plot is intense and fast paced, with lots of twists and turns along the way that keep you on your toes and unsure what is going to happen next. I found myself intrigued by the world and drawn in from the beginning with a story that is intense, exciting and very engaging. Overall, it was a fantastic read and I am looking forward to seeing how everything ends.
Highly recommended.

Running out of options, and not sure he can even trust himself, Omega Captain Sterling makes some of his riskiest decisions yet in this super high octane, action packed turn of the war. The psychosis is deeper, the fights are bloodier, the stakes are higher. Just when you think one crisis has been averted, something worse pops up. What I love about Ogden's books though is it is not just action play-by-play. He manages to cram in an amazing amount of character development and even a good bit of humor resulting in a book you will not want to put down. Especially with what happens to Ensign Jinx!
Book 5 in the Omega Taskforce series, things are getting super heated as we get closer to the climax. Each book has a complete story arc, but are closely tied to each other and the overarching plot develops through the series. Read in order, just make sure you don't have anything important to do when you sit down to start reading.
His options have dwindled down to one final hope. Captain Lucas Sterling and the Invictus crew will have to seek out the missing Dreadnaught-class warship which would be capable of taking on the enemy successfully through attacking the Sa’Nerran homeworld.
But the Sa’Nerrans have followed right behind them and Sterling must fight them once again with his skeleton crew. With so few of them left, he is unfortunately going to need to include the Obsidian Soldiers, neurotic AI combat robots he is hesitant to trust. But the Dreadnaught has become their only hope of fighting back. If they cannot secure it, all is lost. Is this their final stand? Are there any other resources to draw upon?
I enjoyed this book very much, full of action and plenty of space battles as well as ground combat. Great characters, how can you not love Lucas and Mercedes? These two are like Starsky and hutch, tango and Cash, Thelma and Louise, Batman and robin, they work so well together. Great additional characters as well. Still can’t get past no chairs on a spaceship. I will keep hammering this point until the author writes a continuing series where he puts chairs on the bridge of a spaceship. As much as I love this series I will not give it five stars because of that one Miss Q. Read it for the action adventure camaraderie and humor because there is that as well. Good book will be sorry when the series is over.
I would like to thank Booksprout and the author for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
This is another in the action packed Omega Task Force series by G J Ogden. True to the series this 5th book is a very quick read, full of military action and battles. This time we are presented with a new addition to the action heroes.
Overall, I enjoyed it a bit more than the 4th book, as it focused more on the battles and technology. Recommended as a good sci-fi escapism of the mind of you like lots of action.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Captain Lucas Sterling and the rest of his crew are back for more action, adventure, and battles galore as they race to try to find a lost ship and hopefully win the war. At least that is their plan at the beginning. Of course things do not go as planned and thus I got an entertaining fast paced story that kept me reading to the end to see what the crew would face and what decisions they must make this time. A few surprises also pop up to add to the fun. Just a great story in the series that I loved.
G J Ogden Vanguard book 5 Oh Boy this was like book 4 but on steroids fast pace lots of content and great action roll on book 6. I have read this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review on my free will
Captain Sterling and his Omega team are in a race to find a lost Dreadnaught, which could be the human races last hope in the war with the Sa'nerra. Forced to take greater risks, the losses are high and a new threat could mean all hope is lost.
